N E W R E N AU LT M E G A N E CO U P E R ACES INTO A ( V I R T UA L ) WO R L D OF ITS OWN On 21 November 2008, several weeks ahead of its official launch, video game fans will be the very first to get behind the wheel of Renault’s striking New Mégane Coupé. Albeit only on screen, gamers will be able to enjoy the sight and sound of the French marque’s rakish threedoor from the comfort, and relative safety, of
their own living room as it takes to the streets in the latest edition of the phenomenally successful Need for Speed franchise, entitled Need for Speed Undercover. Renault and the world’s leading video game publisher, Electronic Arts, have been working together for nearly a year, bringing their different worlds together around a common passion: cars. Arnage Final Series also signals the end of an era as Bentley prepares for the future.
Sharing the tarmac with the likes of the Audi R8, BMW M6 and Porsche 911 GT2 in the new game, New Mégane Coupé can be driven by players as they dart through speedways and chase rivals in the high-speed action along more than 80 miles of road in the Tri-City Bay Area, during their undercover operations to take down an international crime syndicate. roduction version of New Mégane Coupé takes to UK streets in January 2009

Meet the 21st century M i t s u b i s h i S u p e r C a r, the new Lancer Evolution X, with over 40 years in motor sports Mitsubishi have created an all new car inside and out which is fit for today and tomorrows market. Since 1973 with the launch of the Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR to the first Evolution in 1992 this new model is more mature, stylish and definitely more sophisticated but managing to keep s o m e p r a c t i c a l i t y. driving along the road when it started raining, failed to notice that the Evo has automatic headlamps and wiper sensors which are fantastic, ive never driven a vehicle with them very responsive and never had to change the sensitivity of them e i t h e r. Interior has a high fantastic build quality which we have found across the Mitsubishi range, Recaro f r o n t s e a t s , l e t ’s be honest here,
for long journeys i would advise you stretch your legs every now and then, the seats are comfy for when you are driving in a more race style mode, but when cruising along a motor way for a long distance not the most practical, lots of leg room both front a n d r e a r. With an all new DOHC 2.0L MIVEC Tu r b o c h a r g e d e n gine which manages to be competitive on fuel e c o n o m y, l e s s emissions, and well rather bloody fast is the polite way to put it. The new engine uses a die-cast aluminium cylinder block which reduced 12kg of weight of the car compared to a normal cast iron block. The Evo-X FQ-300 produces
as you guessed it just below 300bhp which will when require blast you from 0-62mph in 4.1 Seconds, and after this, all you need is some wings and the Evo could probably take off. We managed an average mpg of around 21miles per gallon, but bare in mind we are testing the vehicle, so slow town driving, then some b-road etc.

Fairmont St Andrews, Scotlan The Association of Scottish Moto A personal big thanks to Mitsubishi for inviting me as their guest to the awards. A big congratulations to all the award winners ( full details on the next page ) The Fairmont St Andrews is a fantastic hotel, upon arriving you could tell there was an awards show or something on with all the wonderful cars in the car park. Upon entering the hotel, I felt completely out of place, fantastic, beautiful doesn’t even describe how the hotel looks! It was amazing, I had a sneaky peak at the room/hall where the event was going to take place. For us it was our first social event in the motoring calendar, and we hope to attend many more. Now in its 11th year the Scottish Car of the Year awards are judged by a panel of journalists from the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW). To be eligible the vehicles, must of been launched within the last 12 months, have to be driven on Scottish roads by the judges

A fun packed evening with a fantastic meal, great live entertainment from the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, and of course the Car of the Year award when the car was actually driven into the awards show with indoor fireworks, confetti for the cleaners to clean up. But I cant thank enough to Mitsubishi for inviting us, and a huge congratulations to everybody who won awards and to the Scottish Motor Writers for organizing such a great event.

We a r r i v e d f o r 1 p m u p a t t h e s u n n y Knockhill racing circuit, our day starts off with a group briefing and driver technique talk, which if you pay attention you can learn some interesting stuff. We t h e n t r a v e l e d d o w n t o t h e R a l l y hut, where we were tooled up for the job, a helmet, and notepad and of course a pen! In total the group consisted of 18 drivers, 6 cars, so we were split into 3 groups of 6 p e o p l e a n d a l l o c a t e d a c a r. The rally sessions were split into 3, first rally session is a personal o n - s t a g e t u i t i o n b y K n o c k h i l l ’s w e l l trained instructors, whilst driving on the track you were also to remember the track layout, as for your final drive ( the Assessment stage ) the instructor reads out your pace notes! So get your notes wrong, and it could all go wrong. The rally prepared rear wheel drive F o r d ’s a r e i d e a l f o r t h e j o b o f g e t t i n g y o u a r o u n d K n o c k h i l l ’s m i l e long rally course. On the day there is a sense of competitiveness, as you do have the chance to win a trophy if you are good enough for the top three places in your final run. The second rally session again is on-stage tuition, again with Knockhi l l ’s t r a i n e d i n s t r u c t o r s , d r i v i n g f o r t h e s e c o n d t i m e f e l t a l l o t b e t t e r, y o u w e r e u s e d t o t h e c a r, t h e t r a c k ,

so you could up your speed, and get some sliding action. And finally the Assessment stage, the final run. This run is where you take all that you have learnt, basically go for it! The overall winner for the day isn’t the faste s t d r i v e r, b u t t h e d r i v e r t h a t h a s improved the most, who listened to t h e i n s t r u c t o r, c o n s i s t e n c y. O n c e you finished your run you were then driven back to the rally hut on the track with the instructor at the wheel! Knockhill say there drivers will scare you, but they didn’t! Maybe next time guys! Once back at the racing hut, we had a debriefed, and then the awards ceremony along with certificate of completion. Unfortunately I never won! But you did have a option to bribe your instructor with a £10 note for extra points, but we didn’t want to cheat. All I can say is if you are thinking of booking a rally experience, DO IT! If you are sitting thinking “oh I’ve wanted to do that” well honestly go and book it! It was an amazing day out, every time a d r i v e r c a m e o u t o f t h e i r c a r, t h e y had a smile on their face! NISSAN SKYLINE R35
R35 GTR
Nissan R35 GTR One of the best cars in the world ever and we get to review one :) Happy days!

The new GT-R inherits the tradition created by the long line of GT-Rs, the highest class of the domestic Skyline series, and is now reborn as “The supercar that creates the greatest inspiration” to the world. Not only that, it also shows the way for all future Nissan vehicles. As a vehicle which represents Nissan, it has been given the name “NISSAN GT-R”. Nissan’s new GT-R, a multi-performance supercar, creating a whole new class of its own. New high-efficient 3.8-litre twin turbo V6 engine, mating great horsepower (480 PS / 353 kW), a wide torque spread (maximum torque 60kgm / 588 Nm), good fuel economy and low emissions (conforming to ULEV regulations in Japan ). New technology includes plasma coated bores to improve cooling efficiency and boost both power and economy. New body using lightweight steel, carbon fibre and diecast aluminium construction. Brembo drilled ventilated disc brakes and Brembo opposed monoblock callipers that offer immense stopping power. Dampers, gear shift and VDC-R are all manually adjustable, by simple switches on the dashboard, offering maximum comfort with ease of driving, or maximum performance. Multi-functional instrument display, designed by the people who created the graphics of the Sony PlayStation Gran-Turismo game. A g-force meter in the instrument display, showing both lateral

(acceleration and braking) and transverse (cornering) forces. When we saw the GTR pull up at Crail Race way, i literally ran towards it! The amount of people that took photographs, peoples jaw’s were dropping at the sight of this car! It’s a piece of art! We were lucky enough to get a shot in the passenger’s seat in the GTR on Crails Drag strip. We met up with Craig’s R33 Skyline, which is currently kicking out just over 600bhp ( we will have a full feature on his car next month ) and out of the 2 races together, it was close each time with the R33 winning by a marginal gap! The GTR build quality is fantastic inside and outside. The interior fits you like a glove, however if you plan on a long journey with more than 2 people in the car, the rear seats are a squeeze if the front passenger and driver are tall or require a fair amount of leg room, so keep your rear passengers small. Value for money would be a word to describe the GTR, fair enough the only way you can get one currently is via importing one. But its not long now until the UK versions will be here. If you had £54,800 to spend on a car, what else could you buy for this amount that would beat the GTR, not allot! We hope in the early part of next year 2009 to have a road trip with some GTR’s, so we will keep you posted.

So this is our first Peugeot, and personally the first ever Peugeot I’ve ever driven. It’s not everybody’s preference to drive an estate car, but what is amazing is when you take a corner at the normal speed you would a coupe or saloon car, I would of expected the back to go light and lose control! Well this car most certainly didn’t. -3 degrees temperatures, snow, hail, almost flooded motorways, the only thing this car didn’t 70
experience was being struck by lightning, the car just kept going and going and going. The Peugeot 407 SW GT V6 Diesel, a fantastic engine with an automatic gearbox but also the option with manual shifter. When the car is in Drive its very smooth, efficient and does the job. You have an optional sport button, which increases the rev’s, slightly more noticeable gear change and more
noticeable dropping figure on the fuel gauge. We generally kept the car in Drive with the sport mode off, and we managed around an average 31mpg. The interior of the 407 was the part I liked most, heated leather seats help when it’s cold outside or you fancy a warm bum. The all glass roof is fantastic at night times with it being cold at night with very little clouds this car is amazing for parking up and watching the stars.

The Satnav/audio system to be honest is a little too complicated for this modern world, you physically have to put your sim card into the unit for the phone system to work, I think Bluetooth option would be the way to go. Crystal clear sound from the sound system, you even have an av input in the glove box, great for plugging in a DVD player, etc of course it only works when stationary. In the storage 72
compartment there also is a usb socket, so you can plug in a usb memory stick with music, and listen to your favorite tracks. The cd player in the car reads dvd and mp3 discs too, so saves having 20 cd’s in the glove box. I’ve given the Peugeot 407 SW GT a 3 out of 5 TarMag rating, my reasons for this, the car has been around for a while, so we would be expecting a update
TarMag Rating : T T T T T
soon, it’s a fantastic value for money car, great engine, very comfy, the boot space is fine, allot of people have said the loading bay of the boot is small, but it all depends on what you are trying to put in it, the weekly shop fits perfectly. For more details on the car or to arrange a test drive, contact your local Peugeot dealer.

When did you get into photography? I've always had an interest in photography and I think that stems from my dad always having a decent camera setup when I was younger. He was always taking shots and showing me stuff, not that I had a clue what any of it meant (still don't LOL). But it was when digital cameras first came out that I really got interested in it all as I'd been playing with graphic design packages on the PC since I was in high school and digital photos were the next step along the way. In the late 90's I had a few pocket digicams then progressed up to prosumer level then to digital SLR based cameras in 2003 and that’s when things got serious :)
How did you know you wanted to be a professional photographer? I didn't! When I was at school I knew I wanted to do something that involved either music or computing and when I left I ended up falling into a LOT of different careers through the way. I started in IT doing tech support and programming, then DJ'd for a few years, then started a car magazine and from there moved on to marketing. That takes up my 9-5 but I do a lot of freelance work at nights and weekends for magazines and newspapers like Max Power, M8 Magazine and The Sun newspaper - plus of course running Strathycruise which has been my free time killer for nearly 9 years now :)
What made you choose automotive photography compared to landscapes or weddings? I think it’s because I have complete control over how things will look when I'm finished shooting and editing, plus I'm not having to deal with the weather or human beings (both of which can be hard work at times). You can place a car and shoot for hours without worrying that the conditions will change. Don't get me wrong, it's not just cars I shoot. I do model shoots (you can see some of the recent ones on Strathycruise's babes area) which is similar to car shoots, trying to get the subject to look its best plus weddings, nightclub, commercial and product photography. Landscapes is the one area that I have zero interest in, possibly because in Scotland you need to have extreme patience or luck to get a good landscape photograph - if I stayed in Miami or Australia it might be a different story.
Is there anyone you look up to for inspiration for your photography? When I was younger I loved checking out the shots in Max Power and FastCar from Tricky and Fly. They are the grand masters when it comes to car shots and since they’ve been in the industry for so many years they have all the right knowledge to get the shots first time every time. We’ve all lucky now and can shoot and check with the screen on the back, with these guys being used to film, negatives and dark rooms - they really have the mindset for it all. Now I look at photographers in other industries to draw inspiration. People like Dave Hill and Joe McNally have created looks using unusual lighting that completely blows me away. I also tend to hang around on some good photography websites like Flickr and Strobist. The best way to learn is to immerse yourself in good work by talented people.

Has anyone helped you on your way? That’s a
tricky one to answer. Directly I’d say no, I’ve never gone in for any training, college courses or anything like that and I never had a mentor when I was learning the ropes. With digital the best teacher you can have is yourself - and that screen on the back of the camera. It tells you when you’re right and when you’re off the mark. Lately I’ve been using websites to see other peoples work and learn from them. You never stop learning and there’s always someone out there doing something different that gets you thinking “what if I...”
80
What is the oddest car you have photographed?
There have been that many it’s hard to pick one out. The strangest one was called “car and a half” and I shot it for Fast & Modified magazine back in 2004/5. It was a black Pug 306 that had another 306 chopped and converted into a trailer which was then towed on the back. Strange looking but very unique and the owner was a complete gent who was always full of smiles and happy to bring his car along to cruises and shows. I think I tend to enjoy shoots where the people are as interesting and entertaining as their vehicles. Nothing helps pass the time like some good banter and in contrast, when
someone’s droll and makes a shoot appear to be a hassle to them then the results you walk away with aren’t quite as good.
What cars have you photographed? Probably quicker to ask what cars haven’t I photographed! Everything from new, standard cars for AutoTrader through to hot hatches, modified, performance custom and concepts plus prototypes. A Scottish supercar called the LMP (Le Manns Prototype) was a good one I remember from a few years ago. Garry Coul’s Pinnacle ‘57 Chevy muscle car was another great. I do a lot of work with Keith Cowie so his car’s been shot quite a lot
too and I run his website and do a bit of PR and marketing for him so he’s always a great laugh. I worked on a commission for Jaguar tuners Ecurrie Ecosse in the summer which ended up being used on the front page of the Scotsman newspaper and lately I’ve been doing a lot of features for Max Power magazine and co-ordinating cars for the Scottish Modified Car shows so there’s always a constant flow of high quality motors to work with.
always wanted to get some time with a really out there concept car and a studio of good lights. When I was in Germany at Audi’s Ingolstadt factory covering a game launch I saw some of the amazing concepts they’ve produced that never made it to the open road. It would have been good to grab some of them for a shoot but that wasn’t going to happen, though the bar in the Audi building did become a second home for the week :)
What car would you love to photograph? You’re
Where can people see your work? Well with the

day job and the amount of freelance stuff I’m doing I don’t have a lot of free time to update my own web-
site much BUT if I do get a chance you should be able to check it out at www.uxxv. com. UXXV is the name I use for freelance work when I’m doing graphic design, marketing, PR, web development, photography and video/filming projects. I also work with friends who are in the same industry and we collaborate on projects and commissions, for instance covering big dance events or working on magazine features together. Having good people around is key to enjoying photography and I’m thankful that I’ve got a pool of great folk to work with. Crail Race Way 26th Oct 08 Sunday 26th October 2008 we attended Crail R a c e W a y ’s “ M a x F i r e s h o w ”. L u c k i l y f o r u s t h e weather held up, but it was rather cold (note to self : Bring gloves next time) It was our first time up Crail Race way and i must say what a random w e e p l a c e , i t ’s i n t h e middle of nowhere with fantastic views, I think we will be making a regular appearance there next year! Crail Race way has a 1/4 mile drag strip, and also a drifting patch. We arrived around 11am and already it was packed, the sun was shining, wind was rather cold, and already cars were burning rubber on the track and whilst drifting. There were many different types of cars on the day from your stand-
- a r d F o r d ’s t o y o u r A s ton Martins and Nobles. It was nice seeing more modern faster cars in the track, to our surprise we noticed a car e nte r t h e Cra i l R a ce way, which just happened to be a Nissan GTR Skyline, w h i c h I ’m s u re yo u wo u l d of already read about in the mag. Was a fantastic c a r, I p e r s o n a l l y w o u l d like to thank Andrew Robb, Brodie and Eilidh. We were lucky enough to get a front passenger seat in the Skyline GTR whilst racing the R33 Skyline which also f e a t u r e s i n t h i s m o n t h ’s mag! We hope to attend allot more events next year at Cra i l R a ce Way, we h o p e to bring our PR team in the summer when its abit warmer for them! Keep an eye out for us next time you are up!

Here is Thomas Lamont’s story. I started out with a Corsa C SXI+ with a 1.3 CDTI (75 PS). I was only 17 and travelled a lot at the time, so it was a good choice. The Corsa D was released six months later, I preferred the styling of the Corsa D compared to the C, so I decided to take a Corsa D SXI 1.3 CDTI (90 PS) for a test drive. I liked it and then decided to take the plunge and get the D. I had never really planned on modifying the car until by chance I discovered a Vauxhall Corsa D Sports Club forum on the Internet, which I am now the Scotland Regional Organiser for. I had a look around the site and seen a few nicely modified Corsa Ds, I then decided to modify mines. I wanted to add the VXR Styling Pack Side Skirts and Front Lower
94
Spoiler but can’t due to my driveway. I started out on the inside with a flip out touch screen DVD player, 6 by 9s and an Infinity Subwoofer. I then installed some interior neon lights and decided to tint the windows. I then added some VXR Indicator Surrounds and then a VXR Styling Pack 1 spoiler. Unfortunately a couple of years ago, I was a victim of a serious assault. I received some compensation money so decided to put this towards the next few modifications of my car. I upgraded the alloy wheels and painted my callipers and drums. I had a few people asking me why I had painted my drums red, it was because it went with the car a lot better and I don’t mind people knowing I have drums, as I don’t have a high performance car.
Max power: 115 bhp Vauxhall Corsa D S
What to do next? I decided to paint the front “V” Grille to tie in with my alloys and the rest of the car. I then went onto paint the centre console, heater vent rings and the steering wheel controls to go with the colour scheme I had on the outside of the car. Now that the interior was complete, I thought about adding some toys. I removed the old headunit and 6 by 9s, I added a new double din headunit, freeview box and a Slimline Playstation 2 was installed. I thought to myself, it’s all been done before, I need to do something that has not been done before, I decided to take a different route with the following modifications. I installed a Sega Mega Drive 2 and a Nintendo 64.
Box. The car is now producing 115 BHP and 270 NM of Torque. I am currently thinking of buying a Piper Exhaust System and building a Car Computer but that will be further down the line.
Now that the interior and exterior was completed, I decided to colour code the engine bay, installed some red hosing, added a K&N Panel Filter and a DTUK Tuning
