Welcome to Sierra Ranches!
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Western Treasures, Volume 1— our first annual female production sale and fifth bull sale. We are excited to offer this set of females and bulls that are backed by some of the most prolific cow families in the Hereford breed. Holding the female and bull sales together enables us to showcase the full scope of our operation.
The females in this herd were selected on the basics of high quality udders, easy keeping, structurally sound cattle with well-balanced EPDs. Our donor battery is from the leading cow families in the breed; they not only look good phenotypically but also have the proven genetics behind them to improve consistency. Through extensive embryo transfer, we have been able utilize the top herd sires in the breed on these donors to advance our program’s genetics.
TIM, KARA, TYLER, & KATHRYN COLEMAN
By incorporating Hereford bulls into our commercial program, we have seen firsthand what this breed can do. Herefords have increased our weaning weights, fertility and longevity along with bringing in a great deal of docility. The baldy steers and heifers produced from these bulls have worked great. Whether it’s the steers in the feedlot or the heifers used as replacements entering the cow herd, they have truly been our best. This group of bulls is our best set to date, being sound footed, powerfully constructed and carrying a well-balanced set of genomic values to back them up.
We have made a commitment to the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) by initiating the Foundation 1 Club. Our commitment is to donate 1% of this sale’s gross to the HYFA organization. We hold a strong belief in helping our future generations and insuring their opportunities in the livestock industry. We hope that other breeders will join us in the Foundation 1 Club to support the next generation.
We are very proud of this sale offering to show you the type and kind that our donors, their offspring and our bulls produce. These cattle have worked great in our program, and we are sure they will in yours as well. We look forward to seeing you October 9th at our Foothill Ranch in La Grange, California, and are eager to work with
you!

SALE MANAGER’S COMMENTS
Dear Friends & Fellow Cattlemen, Welcome to the Western Treasures, Volume 1 Sale at Sierra Ranches. I first want to take this opportunity to thank Tim, Kara, Tyler, Kathryn and the Sierra crew of Dan, Tim, Courtney, Rolando and Christian for allowing me to be a part of their marketing team. The effort and passion that they put into this program is evident in the cattle they produce and how they are presented, and I am honored to be involved in the merchandising of such an outstanding set of Hereford cattle. Tim and Kara Coleman and family are the founding members of the Foundation 1 Club, an organization of breeders that are graciously donating 1% of their sale gross to the Hereford Youth Foundation of America. Please join us in celebrating the formation of this club that is focusing on the future of our Hereford youth through the continued growth of HYFA at this inaugural Sierra Ranches production sale. This herd has been built from a foundation of what Tim and Kara have determined to be the breed’s most influential cow families. The positive impact that the cow families in this herd have had on the Hereford industry in terms of cultivating and improving the real-world traits of udder quality, calving ease, feed efficiency, fertility and functional design is second to none. When you examine the pedigrees of this offering, you will find that breed-leading sires and top income-generating donor cows are a common occurrence in the lineage of this herd. In an effort to put their best foot forward, Sierra has assembled an outstanding set of Hereford females in Lots 1 through 41 to complement the elite set of herd sire prospects that sell as Lots 101 through 152. Tim and Kara along with their family and crew have assembled a sound, functional group that excel in phenotype and individual performance while maintaining a strong genetic base with numerical balance and diversity. Whether you are simply adding to your herd, seeking an outstanding donor dam or looking for your next show ring champion or herd bull, you will find what you are looking for among this exceptional offering. The bred females are mated to leading Sierra resident herd sires such as Fast Forward, 5010 and 5004, and the exceptional pairs have unlimited earning potential when you consider the value of not only the cow but also the calf at her side. For each transaction that is made, Sierra Ranches wants the customer to be satisfied. Everything they do is in an effort to build lasting relationships, and they always stand behind their product. I encourage you to evaluate the needs of your program and join us to view the cattle and for food, fellowship and refreshments on Sunday, October 8, and on Columbus Day, October 9, 2017 for this inaugural sale. Please do not hesitate to call me with any questions or if I can help you in any way. Sincerely, Matt C. Sims

• Selling 1/2 interest. • 6007 is possibly the top show and donor prospect ever produced at Sierra Ranches. Thick, stout and powerful, she is wide based, heavy boned, big hipped and powerfully constructed while offering the length of spine and functional traits needed to be a high-quality brood cow or donor option. Her impressive profile highlights her feminine features while showcasing her volume and center body dimension, and she moves like a thoroughbred. Backed by the maternal strength of her dam, the 2013 JNHE Champion Polled Female and leading Sierra donor, this sale feature should command the attention of all serious breeders. • Among non-parent females, ranks in the top 4% for RE, top 10% for $CHB and CW, top 15% for WW and Marb and top 20% for YW. • Maternal sisters sell as Lots 2, 3A and 3B. Maternal brothers sell as Lots 101–105. • Due 1/25/18 to CHURCHILL RED BULL 200Z.
Addison 2018
Dam of Lots 1– 3 & Lots 101–105 We selected the $60,000 dam of Lots 1–3 and Lots 101–105 as the top selling heifer calf in the 2012 Hoffman Ranch Sale. Addison went on to be named the 2013 Junior National Hereford Expo Grand Champion Polled Female and has since made her name as the featured donor in the Sierra herd by continuing to add to her lore with progeny like the ones that you will see in this offering. Addison 2018 is the result of the famous mating of 755T with the $117,500 Gemini 89T. Maternal siblings to Addison 2018 include TH 89T 755T Stockman 475Z, the $110,000 second top selling bull from the 2013 Topp Bull Sale selected by Ratcliff Ranch and Genex; TH 89T 755T Victor 468Z, who went to Upstream, Roudabush, Dvorak and Spencer from the 2013 Topp Sale; the $50,000-valued Topp and MCS herd sire MCS 755T Durant 489B ET, and many other breed greats. The maternal grandam of Addison 2018, Gemini 16G, gained her fame by producing Tundra 63N. Addison 2018 posts impressive progeny ratios of BW 2@86, WW 1@100, YW 1@100, IMF 6@104.2 and RE 6@107.

• H Kinsey 2508 ET was named Reserve Grand Champion Owned Horned Female at the 2013 Junior National Hereford Expo, where her stall mate, Addison 2018, was named Champion Owned Polled Female. Kinsey has held her own in the donor competition since. In an effort to offer our very best in this inaugural event, we have decided to retain her progeny and are offering 2508 in her entirety. • If you are looking to add power and width while sustaining the style worthy of front pasture status, look no further. 2508 is a big hipped, powerfully constructed female that offers muscle shape and bone. In addition, she complements her phenotype with balanced EPD tabulations that allow for mating flexibility. • Among proven females, ranks in the top 4% for M&G and RE, top 10% for Milk and WW, top 15% for CW and top 25% for $CHB. • Maternal sisters sell as Lots 5 and 6. Maternal brothers sell as Lots 115–118. • Sells open, ready to flush.
HH Miss Advance 5139R
Dam of Lots 4– 7 & 115–118 The dam Lots 4–7 and 115–118 and grandam of Lots 111–114, 5139R, first topped the 2010 Holden Female Sale at $40,000 to Haxton Hoffman. We selected her from Hoffman’s 2013 Fall Sale at $175,000, which tied the breed record sales price at that time. 5139R has since proven her worth time and again, as is evident in the progeny and descendants that represent her in this offering. She is one of the very top cows in the breed and combines curve-bending EPDs with tremendous eye appeal, udder quality and structure. She has produced almost $1 million in progeny sales, including the $180,000 new record-selling female for the Hereford breed that sold in Hoffman’s 2014 Fall Sale. Her daughters are some of the very top females in our herd as well as across the breed. Her sons are working in many top registered herds across the U.S. Her impact will be felt in the Hereford breed for many generations to come. 5139R records impressive average progeny ratios of 5@99.2 for BW, 4@104.8 for WW, 3@102 for YW and 45@100.6 for RE.

• T90 came to us following a great donor career at Topp Herefords. She originated from Ochsner Ranch, which is noted for being a female factory, creating model matrons with fleshing ability, thickness, power and perfect udders. • T90 produced the two top selling bulls in the 2015 Sierra Bull Sale after producing two $30,000 high selling bulls for Topp Herefords. She has sons working in registered herds all over the country, and Genex tied into a Mr. Hereford son of hers for $75,000. Her Mr. Hereford daughter topped the female portion of a past Topp Herefords sale at $22,000. Top hasn’t missed and continues to produce high value progeny. She has a lot of life left in her. • Posts progeny ratios of 4@99 for BW, 4@103 for WW and 4@102.3 for YW after recording individual ultrasound ratios of 101 for RE and 102 for IMF. • Dam records 9@99.2 for BW, 5@105.6 for WW and 4@112.8 for IMF. • Among proven females, ranks in the top 20% for BW and Milk and top 25% for Marb. • Daughters sell as Lots 9–14. • Sells open, ready to flush.

Hereford Youth Foundation of America, Sierra Ranches Launch Foundation 1 Club August 3, 2017
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Hereford Youth Foundation of America and Tim and Kara Coleman, Sierra Ranches, Modesto, Calif., are teaming up to launch the HYFA Foundation 1 Club at the Western Treasures, Vol. 1 Sale Monday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. The Foundation 1 Club is a group of breeders who donate 1% of their sale gross to HYFA to benefit leadership, scholarship and educational experiences for Hereford youth.
“Kara and I have always been passionate about junior programs, so we started looking at what we could do at Sierra Ranches to help foster the junior program and support it in the future,” Coleman said. “I was reflecting last spring on the good programs that take place throughout the year for HYFA and thought ‘what would 1% of a sale be?’ It started to sound right. Whether it is an online sale, bull sale or production sale, there is no amount too big or small to donate back to HYFA.” Through HYFA, Hereford youth have the opportunity to gain invaluable leadership skills that enable them to become self-directing, educated leaders in today’s world.
“The Hereford Youth Foundation of America is fortunate to have such a gracious network of donors,” said Amy Cowan, American Hereford Association director of youth activities and foundation. “The Foundation 1 Club sets the stage for amazing growth for our leadership and educational programs. I can’t thank Sierra ranches and the Coleman Family enough for having the foresight to be the inaugural members of this prestigious club and committing 1% of their sale proceeds this fall to HYFA. Our future is in good hands thanks to donors like Sierra Ranches.” To become a member of the Foundation 1 Club, contact Amy Cowan at (816) 218-2256 or acowan@hereford.org.

Addison 2018
Dam of Lots 101–105 & Lots 1– 3 We selected the $60,000 H B/R Addison 2018 ET as the top selling heifer calf in the 2012 Hoffman Ranch Sale. Dam of Lots 115–118 The dam Lots 115–118 and Lots 4–7 and grandam of Lots 111–114, 5139R, first topped the 2010 Holden Female Sale at $40,000 to Haxton Hoffman.

• The sire of Lots 149–152, EXAR Blue Chip 1877B, was selected Grand Champion Bull at the 2013 American Royal ROV Angus Show and Grand Champion Bull at the North American and was the favorite of many respected cattlemen. EXAR Blue Chip is a son of two of the most popular Denver champions—sired by the Triple Crown winner Dameron First Class and from one of the top-producing Denver Champion Females of all time, the immortal Greens Princess 1012. Blue Chip sons are thick and wide based and show a great deal of pizazz and eye appeal. If you are looking for that next sire that has the lineage and genetic makeup to improve phenotype, invest in these sons of Blue Chip.
