Editorial Fashion Industry: The House of Innovation The Fashion industry has significantly evolved, particularly over the last 20 years. The changing dynamics of the fashion industry have forced fashion brands to innovate themselves every day. This is the only way they can successfully compete in the developing environment. In this fast fashion world, there are still many designers staying true to their unique vision and exciting the industry with new textiles, prints, and silhouettes. Innovation is definitely important for the future development of fashion industry. Over time, the entrepreneur’s role in the economy and their contribution to economic change, as well as their creativity, innovations and managerial aspects changed. For instance- Louis Vuitton’s the brand characteristics included innovation and creativity, H&M’s retail innovation through collaboration with Luxury designers and Levi’s product customization. Tom Ford (Gucci)’s innovation, a trend in fashion history was changed to a mix of tradition and modern innovation and became the hottest name in International Fashion. In the fashion sector, innovation is a continuous and almost infinite process. One of the innovator Marks & Spencer has clearly demonstrated that sustainability pays off as their plan A net benefits have surpassed £70m in 2011. His success owes a great debt of gratitude to a long and rich track record of innovation. Innovation must emphasize on new technologies and new ways of doing things in a sustainable manner.

Who doesn’t love sunglasses? It protects the eye, makes one look good and stylish and most importantly, brings in privacy allowing you to see better. As a matter of fact, the international eye wear industry has been valued at a $102. 66 Billion in the year 2015. With this industry growing, Aristotle Loumis took this as an opportunity to convert his passion into a company and that was when this amazingly unique firm – Ellison Eyewear was born. The founder and CEO realized that though sunglasses are so much in demand, the industry providing this product is fragmented and was being ruled by just few giant corporations. That was when he decided to seize the moment and come up with his own fashion brand of sunglasses.

About the CEO Mr. Aristotle Loumis is an entrepreneur by profession and philanthropist by nature. He has a passion of designs of utmost top quality and that’s what makes his sunglasses brand unique from the rest. He belongs to the city of Chicago and he began his research of this company in that city and then moved globally, before finally launching the brand in 2014. At present, Aristotle is the Youth Profession Chair of the Greek America Foundation and Project Hope for Greece. He is also a member of the Entrepreneur’s Organization Fellowship Program and the Founder of Charity Marathon in Chicago, IL.

Loumis’s Vision of Ellison Eyewear Aristotle believes in aiming at the moon, and settling in for nothing less. He envisions Ellison to deliver exceptional client services throughout the lifetime of the company and the customer. He has been building an integrated model to support the vision.

The Pricing and Material Modelling Behind Ellison Eyewear Mr. Loumis wanted to deliver the best at honest prices and also not harm the society at the same time. Thus, after years of research, he decided to opt for his own family owned factory, to be the manufacturing unit for his eyeglasses. This factory is located in Greece, and that’s exactly where he spent most of his time conducting research and learning the entire process of producing and developing designs, all by himself.

Giving Back to the Society

With all this going perfectly, and while travelling two journeys at the same time – entrepreneurship and philanthropy, Aristotle could not just sit back and relax while his company grew with each passing day. He wanted to give back to the society in some form or the other. This thought gave birth to donations to the Aravind Eye Care. A portion of each sale of this eyewear showroom goes to the eye care, whose sole mission is the eradication of blindness. After about three years of research and development, Ellison eye wear, today is just a few months old, but already has managed to have local, national and even international retailers on board. They began their journey from Iowa and today, they have about 10 stores in Greece.

Tattoos - in their purest kind, at least - are speculated to capture a part of who we are, thus there’s no reason

why an equivalent logic should not be applied to a brief tattoo on an artist. Aaron Della Vedova, firmly believes in the above mentioned and he is a living legend of taking his passion of tattoos to another level. Today, he is the proud lead tattooist at Guru Tattoos – a tattoo hub, that is a home to 19 of the nation’s top talents and he could not be more proud to work side by side with them every day!

Q - How did you make the idea about company formation and how it evolved?

I thought for years of a way that I could make a living to support myself while doing what I love best. After high school, I joined the US Coast Guard and while in the military I started collecting tattoos. I slowly fell in love with the art form and set my mind on becoming a tattoo artist.

Q – How has the journey been so far?

It proved to be more difficult than I expected. 20 years ago tattooing was very different. It was not mainstream and paths leading into it were full of difficulties. However, my will was strong and I stuck with it regardless of some very unfortunate events. Over time I was able to start working with some other like minded and talented artists and I began to improve rapidly. After about 6 years my reputation had grown to the point where I had about a year long waiting list to be tattooed by me.

Interview

with

Aaron Della Vedova Q – What is Unique About Guru Tattoos? Professionalism.

I aimed to create a shop where you would not only get the best possible tattoo but also be treated with the utmost respect and gratitude. Getting tattooed is a very intimate experience that requires an artist to treat it as such. Patience, good listening and true caring is what is needed for the client. At Guru, we take these qualities very seriously and it shows in our customer satisfaction which is the reason for our continued growth.

Q – What are Your Responsibilities at this Amazing Company?

I am one of the lead tattooists at Guru Tattoo. I feel, it is my responsibility to keep pushing my art to my highest levels. It is also my duty to inspire the other 19 tattooist that works with me. Apart from it, I oversee all the hiring and firing of the artists. I am the curator of the talent our house at Guru. Other than that, I oversee the duties of my general manager marketing manager. Oh, and I throw all the parties! 24

The Brainchild of PROGRESS Label Uncovered

In te D r re vi w ew M w ue it sk h e

Printed T-shirts and quotes on tees is the new trend, especially with today’s young generation. They are always on the lookout for something new, while they have their cultures to the roots. This is one unique transformation in the Millennials today. While they focus on glamour they are also following the news. With politics and social issues being a huge rage and everybody having their eyes and ears to every new thing, how about a complete label of clothing with their focus on specific political and societal issues? This was an idea that popped up in the mind of Mr. Drew, and that was the Eureka moment for him, which resulted in the beginning of PROGRESS label - a 100% American-made clothing that is printed with eco-friendly water-based inks.

Roles, Responsibilities and Position of Mr. Drew Mr. Drew is the owner, creative director, designer and writer at ProgressLabel clothing. He believes that this is the way through which he communicates his take on political issues and social events that are happening in and around him.

The Birth of this Unique Business When he was asked how he got the idea of this unique business idea, he said that the whole idea behind this label came to him back in 2003, during the last semester of his college in the city of dreams – London. It was that time when the United States was under a critical war with Iraq. United States was going through frantic changes back then – with the election of George Bush and with the insignificant 9/11 attacks, there was so much happening. This was the time when Drew got back to the States and with so much happening on the political front, he wanted to convey his views in a strong way and that gave birth to the PROGRESS Label. Progress Label began very small as a way to share Mr. Drew’s creative satire through T-shirt designs.

A Piece of Advice from the Owner Himself The owner of this wonderful business feels that there are 3 main factors contribute to the best creations of a garment business. His advice to all upcoming textile starts up business entrepreneurs is to focus on these three important factors– • Finding your niche: There is a lot of competition in the market. You need to stand

out from your competitors and create your own path • Your business is style, make your style matter and make your style better - If you're designing shirts, make your designs awesome • Find great partners - It's unlikely that any new clothing label is doing every piece of the creative process, garment production, marketing, sewing, and printing and more so make sure your partners excel in the ways you need them “In my case, when I couldn't find a great eco-friendly screen printer, I started a second screen printing business, Offbeat Press.” Quotes the proud owner of this successful business!

The Unique Selling Points of this Label Talking about the USPs of this business, the proud owner states that this business lays emphasis on socially and politically progressive messaging. Each shirt design focuses on specific societal issue. “As an American company, our designs address both domestic and global affairs, often satirical of American political and global involvement and hypocrisies.” Quotes Mr. Drew.

A Candid Talk with the Talented Fashion Designer: Kamaal H Khan Talent knows no bounds or barriers. The verity of this sentence is reflected in the couturier, Mr. Kamaal H Khan of Mumbai. His splendid portfolio an experience in Bollywood industry manifests a story in itself. This young and creative trendsetter is raised in Mumbai and graduated from their only.

What Made You Choose Fashion Designing a Career?

Since childhood, I have had a fierce love for creativity. I have always been passionate so I use to indulge myself in lots of creative activities where I can satisfy myself and enjoy the work. This urged me to opt for fashion designing.

Why You Choose Bollywood? I didn’t choose Bollywood, Bollywood chooses me. When I was pursuing fashion designing, one of my friends who was directing the show ‘Apne Mere Apne’ on DD national in 2008, called me and offers me to do his show. I grabbed that opportunity as a costume designer. After that, I never stop working and always keep exploring creativity.

What were the Difficulties You Faced While Entering in Bollywood? Neither there was any God-father of mine in Bollywood nor assist by any big designers. That time what was prevailing in the industry was that male designers were not getting a job until they have fame and also producers have the mentality that female designers are far superior then male designers. In fact, most of the designers ruling the industry are male.

How was Your Experience in Your First Movie? In 2009, I got a chance to showcase my passionate knack for creativity through the movie named ‘Dhuaan’ but sadly it was not released due to some cause. There I designed costumes for legendary actors like Raj Babbar, Padmini Kolharpuri, Rati Agnihotri and lots of big stars. It’s always a good feeling to see a celebrity wearing your creation.

How Many Projects have You Done Till Now? Well, I have done 21 movies so far. Some are released and some are yet to be released. Some of the released ones are Love Recipe, Impatient Vivek, Bezubaan Ishq, Chapekar Brothers. Some Marathi movies are ‘Sadarakshanay’ which got many screen awards, Rannbhoomi, Gulabi directed by Guddu Dhanoa, Fekamfaak, Priyanka Chopra’s Production ‘Kay re Rascala’ and much more. Even I have done one Arabic movie called “Gehim Fel Hend”. And also, did more than 15 serials and many commercial ads.

What are Your Future Plans? Currently, I am launching my brand called ARBAN PERZO on 5th October. My plan is to make my brand more visible and achieve global presence and appreciation ARBAN PERZO a unique and stylish apparel brand with a tagline of ‘get promoted’. It’s a way of life inspired to march ahead. It represents style with tradition and quality with consistency. It is amongst the most emerging brands from the city of dreams – Mumbai. I promise to set a new era globally for clothing standards in terms of designs, quality, & fabrics so that everybody can get promoted and get noticed for a unique style and magic of tradition. My USP is like anyone can purchase designer stuff at very reasonable rate, I am launching my e-commerce site before 5th October. We have complete image and lifestyle concept for men, women, and children’s of every age. Next month I am going Germany than South Africa than Dubai to promote my brand there, so no time for other work now.

What You Want to Give Guidance to New Designers Who Want to Make a Career in Bollywood and Fashion Industry? I just want to say if you are creative, hardworking and want to do something different in life than this is the best profession for you. The Fashion industry has lot growth potential in coming years.

Kingshuk Bhaduri(Surjeet) is not an unknown name in the fashion industry anymore. From making the models more glamorous to judging different fashion shows, Kinshuk Bhadhuri is leaving his mark everywhere. This small town fashion designer has been turning heads with his unique collection.

How About Your Past? Where do You Come From? I hail from the small town of Nazibabad.

Being a Small Town Boy, did You Ever Think You can Reach this Height? To be very honest, I never thought I can be in the glam world. When you come from a small town you really don’t get to explore many things. For me being a fashion designer was a farfetched dream. But from my initial days, I was drawn towards fashion, it was like some magnetic energy pulled me towards it.

Interview

with

Kingshuk

Bhaduri

So how did You Come this Far The journey was not easy. I had to struggle a lot. I always followed my God father Mr.Manish Malhotra, and probably continuously observing him gave me the strength to come this far. I started off with Kamakhya, my boutique, which turned out to be a big hit. Later on I was asked to be one of the judges in show like Mr. and Miss Bollywood.

You Follow Manish Malhotra a Lot… Yes, I have learned a lot from Manish Malhotra. Keeping his styles in my mind, I make sure to add a hint of western flair to all my designed lehengas.

Yes and that Style has Made all Your Collection Unique I like to mix and match. I am creative and I love to explore. I always try to present something new, something exclusive. I am glad that all my designs are accepted by people all around. You know when you are unveiling something which has never been seen before, means you are exposing yourself to lot of criticism. I am not saying all my collection are flawless but it is really a pleasure to know that my hard work is being acknowledged. .

Your Schedule is Hectic… Yes, coming this far lot of people puts their trust onto me. I juggle between Pune, Goa, Mumbai and Delhi to manage all the fashion shows.

How About Ms.Rinkie Sharma’s show? It was a charitable show, based on ‘Beti Bachao beti Padao’. It was a wonderful opportunity to get rid of the notion that girl child are still considered to be less than the boy child.

You are a Self-made Man… Not really, there has been a huge contribution and support from the family. I actually dedicate my success to them. Kingshuk(Surjeet) is a creative person, we just can’t wait to see his magical effects on the ramps of Lakme Fashion week.

The Fashion Designer Deepti Singh Unveiled The world of glamour is beyond one’s understanding to a layman. But, to a person who has dreamed of being in this industry since their childhood, there is nothing hidden. One such living legend is the wellacclaimed fashion designer Deepti Singh. Being born and brought up in the city of love, Agra she always knew what she wanted to do when it was time to establish her career. As a child, she always loved drawing and sketching and today this childhood hobby is converted into her passion of drawing croquis and sketch clothes.

Deepti And Her Growth Phase While since her childhood, she knew what to do, it was her father who urged her to take up a full-time degree and he believed in the fact that there is no stable career without a proper qualification. That is when Deepti enrolled herself in the International Institute of Fashion Technology – IIFT.While she was studying, she was trying to figure out how she would like to take her career ahead. She was stuck in a dilemma of moving to the city of dreams, Mumbai or staying back with her family and continue to pursue her dream.

The Fashion Designer Deepti Singh IIFT

Achievements While one always considers a fashion designer to be at the backstage running from here and there to see that all her models look ravishing before the fashion show, Deepti chose a slightly different path towards this industry. Instead of reaching the success directly, she decided to make other people successful and in turn reach her own career goals. She inspires budding fashion designers to tickle their creative minds and empower their ideas to be able to design something out of the box. She considers herself to be a fashion designer and that can be very clearly seen in her body language and the grip she has in fashion sense. She can communicate her thoughts in colors, shapes, and designs and that is her forte. Through her teaching, young students not only learn how to work with their hands and be creative, but also learn to attain self-confidence. Apart from teaching, she has also been a part of multiple fashion shows either as a designer or as a coordinator. She has been a part of events like Glamoria 2009, Virasat Fashion Show (Commonwealth games 2010), Dans Le Modele – In Style 2010, Celestial –FU-TURAM-A, British Council Fashion Event, Taj Mahotsav fashion show, National expo fashion show.

Prashant Nagar is setting the ramp on fire. Be it his attitude or his good looks, you will have to admire this man. Prashant is an entertainer, an actor, a cricket player and a lot more. It is a great experience to sit face to face with such a versatile personality. Prashant has battled everything to make it to the top of the entertainment industry today. His determination is worth applauding.

How was Your Childhood? Coming from a farmer’s family, childhood was not that easy for me. I have seen struggle from the inception. I was born in a small village located in Uttar Pradesh. I come from a village where people don’t even have the basic facilities to fulfill their needs. No electricity, no proper education probably nothing was available. I lacked knowledge, I knew nothing outside my village.

Your Determination should be Applauded… I will say the lack of guidance or the lack of facilities acted as a blessing in disguise for me. I became more and more determined to learn and explore life outside my village. Curiosity drove me to take steps, which I never thought I am capable of taking. All I knew was I wanted to make it big and I followed my vision, my heart.

Tell us About Your Journey… After passing my intermediate, I took admission in Khalsa College. It was a life changing decision for me. My grooming started from the college days. After graduation, I wanted to do something to inspire the people of my village. I just wanted them to realize that

a small village boy can make it big.

Tell us About Your Big Breakthrough… Yes, I still remember the joy when I was selected in both states of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi Police department. I consider myself fortunate that people struggle for one government job and I had two. Delhi Police sounded more lucrative to me and I opted for the same in 2010. Since I was passionate about cricket from the initial days, I was selected for Delhi Police Cricket Team, it was a great opportunity for me. It was great to know that my performances are getting acknowledged by legends like Virendra Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and Ashish Nehra. But my hunger to make it big kept pushing me towards something else. People appreciated my good looks, my body, and attitude. A lot of people even thought I am fit for the glam world. Maybe that was my calling; I opted for modeling in 2014. That changed everything. Since then life has become busy for me, modeling assignments started flowing in.

Gehana Vasisth And Her Journey From Engineering To Modeling Heard of the quote that says, ‘fate leads to destiny’? This quote holds true in the life of the famous model Gehana Vasisth. She was a parent’s charm and took up engineering as her course, unknown of her ultimate destiny. While her studies, she got a chance to do a shoot for an advertisement with Monte Carlo and that’s when her fate decided to let her know of the real plans for her life – Modelling.

Ms. Gehana Vasisth’s Struggles of Life

It may sound quite filmy if the fact was revealed that this supermodel has really strict parents! But that’s the truth. Monika: An Inspiration for Many Budding Models India is known to be a country to give ample of opportunities for budding models. Some prefer to get trained in this country itself, while a lot of aspiring models travel to other nations, get the experience of modeling and acting and then return back to India to continue their career. Among the ocean of people who take up modeling as their career, there are very few who actually dream of this from their childhood and with their firm determination reaches to levels that mark inspiration for others. Monika is one such inspiring model, who hailed from a small town, yet has set examples in many ways for all other aspiring models.

Q. Tell us Something About Yourself – About Your Childhood, Family Background and Schooling? She was born in Ambala and did her schooling and college at various places because she comes from an Army family background. Monika did her schooling in cities including Dehradun, Kolkata, Patiala, and Agra. But yes, her native is Agra in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Q. What Made You Choose to Model as Your Career Path? During her school days, she participated in various art and cultural events. Her teachers and friends were a source of inspiration and they motivated her to take part in such events. In her class XII, in Patiala was the turning point for her. It was then when she participated in the ‘Miss North India’ contest and she bagged the title of glory. Her modeling career started thereafter when she was acclaimed the ‘Miss North India’. “I started getting offers and assignments and took part in many fashion shows. I was encouraged by my colleagues and seniors. Later I developed a self-belief that Modeling was the career for me. Then there was no looking back and I pursued it with passion as a career”. Says the proud Model.

Q. The Journey Definitely was not as Easy as it Sounds. Tell us About the Difficulties You Faced After choosing to Model? Modeling as a career in India, especially, for girls from small cities was not considered to be a very good career choice during those years. It was a challenge and uphill task of trying to convince her parents about modeling as a career. After choosing to model as her path, she had to face difficulties as is a common phenomenon for most girls from middle-class families. Initially, her parents and family members did not support her for taking this as a career option. She recalls, “My father was in the Indian Army and later on when I requested him to accompany me in a few shows, seeing my passion and the confidence conveyed by the event organizers and my friends about my talent, my father supported me to go ahead with my choice”.

Q. When did You Get Your First Modeling Assignment?

I got my first assignment after becoming ‘Miss Photogenic’ in the Miss India North contest. It is the potential of an individual that is recognized at events like this. Reality shows today is an excellent platform to be recognized which introduces you to this industry through the media. This is how event managers/directors notice you which were not available ten years back.

Q. You have Been a Part of Many Fashion Shows. Was it only in Big Cities? No! In your initial career, you want to grab every opportunity that comes your way with the basic intention of gaining experience before you become selective. I have done shows in Patiala, Ludhiana, Delhi, Patna, Sirsa, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Agra, Mathura, Surat, and Jaipur.

Q. Usually People Shift to Movies After Few Modeling Projects. What is Your Take on it? Monika has concentrated only towards modeling and never thought of movies as yet. Q. What is Your Opinion on Modeling as a Career For Women?

A career in modeling is not considered well, especially with the mindset of a certain class of people in India. In this field you come across all types of people, few are genuine. You have to be upright and judge people by their intentions and it is always good that you select your assignments either through a reputed agency or have your parents/guardian accompany you initially so that they can support you so that people don’t take advantage of you being alone.

Q. What Next? What Plans do You have For Yourself? Modeling as a career has been Monika’s passion. She has done about 65 fashion shows and few advertisements. She plans to continue this as long as she keeps getting better and reputed shows/assignments.

Q. What Importance does Fashion have in Today’s Films? What is Your Take on this Aspect? Fashion is a style statement and this is the truth of this industry. People tend to follow and take inspiration from models. The growth in fashion and trend is ever increasing. It is adopted in all movies and there cannot be filmed without fashion.

Q. How Many Movies have you Acted in so Far? Monika has not acted in any movies, but has worked in a short stint in TV serials i.e. two episodes in Issh Koi Hain and a few Punjabi albums. She has done a few ads. To name a few: Cantabil, Allen Cooper, Liver Pool, Highway Residency but my main focus has been ‘Ramp Walk.

Expert Talk with Dietician Renuka Dang As the myth goes, people associated with glamour industry don’t really have to work hard, Is not correct at all. Models, Actors and Performers, all have to undergo strenuous work routine. They have to go through much grueling work regimen, working at odd hours, sleepless nights and toughest of all looking good and exhibit best of spirits and moods even while they are crashing inside. To cope up with all this pressure‌physical and mental, they need to maintain good health, fit bodies and strong mental balance to put on display a very pleasing, glamorous and attractive personality. I suggest that the diet should be balanced as per the individual needs but keeping in view a hectic schedule with long working hours we may generalize a diet regimen where you get enough nutrition without putting on weight and also without losing your natural charm. The day should immediately on getting up begin with hydration for which I always suggest 2 glasses of water preferably with some ajwain. Later at the time of breakfast one must Kick-start the metabolism by including some protein at breakfast like eggs or some dairy. We tend to burn more calories digesting protein rather than carbohydrates so a protein rich breakfast revs up your metabolism and because protein keeps you fuller for longer, you'll eat fewer calories the rest of the day.

78

Working people should not skip breakfast as this would set your blood sugar off on a roller-coaster that meaning you'll end up choosing the wrong foods later in the day. Don’t forget a good wholesome breakfast not only makes an important contribution towards your daily intake but also plays a key role in maintaining a healthy weight. People with lifestyle which begins with a punch may require mid morning snacks for which my all time favorites remain some fresh veggie salads with Feta, chickpeas and some herbs to make them interesting. A fruit or some juice may also do the trick to keep you going‌and glowing. Lunch should preferably be a mix of lean protein and starchy carbs. Carbrich foods supply energy and without them you're more likely to suffer that classic mid-afternoon slump. The key is to choose carbs that produce a steady rise in blood sugar, which means passing on the sugary white foods and going for high-fiber wholegrain that help you manage those afternoon munchies. Two half bran half Atta rotis with some green veggies and lots of salad may control your cravings and give you enough to keep the energy levels high for the evening. A green tea along with some Marie biscuits and healthy diet chickpea namkeen mixture could energize you for the evening. Dinner should be light but Combine it with some healthy essential fats, the ones you find in oily fish like salmon, mackerel and sardines as well as nuts, seeds and their oils. Your body can use these healthy fats along with protein overnight for regeneration and repair, important for maintaining healthy skin and hair. Fill half your plate with a colorful variety of vegetables or salad, drizzle with a dressing made from linseed or rapeseed oil and add meat, fish or some Feta or Paneer or beans with brown rice, quinoa or whole meal pasta. The days hectic routine with physical and mental stress does leave an impact on our body and to detoxify that one may have a cup of Green tea with some lemon and honey to end the day.
