The new Oreo If anyone could make Birkenstock’s fashionable, it would be Rick Owens. It’s the postapocalyptic designers second collaboration with one of Germany’s staple exports. The second wave coined “Rotterdam” features extended rubberized black logo velcro straps that shout “BIRKENSTOCK” and milk-colored upper straps that reposition and replace the classic metal closure with a squeeze buckle one. The designer adds a bit of his gothic grunge and glamor to a shoe mostly reserved for comfort concerned tourists. Contrary to the average Birkenstock sole, the Rotterdam collections matches the cork sole to the footbed. The toe remains round as do the four-layer footbeds composed of a soft suede, double-layered jute fibers, all set upon a shock absorbent sole. Rick Owens x Birkenstock Birkenstock 385 Euro
Openface Icecream
Also known as a bread baser, bread platter or tartine, this style of sandwich is the norm de core in many European countries; in the U.S. not so much. But imagine removing the bottom cookie of a favorite American summer treat, the icecream sandwich, and voliá, you have this shoe! Basic in design, but sturdy in construction, the white 50mm rubber-soled platform sandal can match most of your wardrobe. The lightweight makes them easy to wear all day, anywhere. The pliant black leather will keep them on your feet and velcro is hidden in a nifty way giving the black closure easy access for putting them on or taking them off. Fun and funky, they’ll keep you on trend, but most importantly, comfortable. Westport leather platform slingback sandals Vince via Net-a-Porter 225 Euro

These sandals are some of the most authentic you can find. Many a millennia ago, the ancient Greeks created a simple silhouette fashioned from wood and leather that we still use today. The old saying goes “If ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” So why would we? Satria’s Ancient Greek Sandals are made from chemical-free, naturally tanned leather that will comfortably wear in quickly, and age to perfection. Each pair is still handmade by artisans in Greece, using the same techniques of their forefathers. The many straps keep your feet in tight, for a secure yet comfortable all-day wear. The brand’s signature golden winged buckles pay homage to Hermés, messenger of the Gods, and the shoemaker who crafted his flying sandals. Ancient Greek Sandals Satria via Net-a-Porter 170 Euro

Black Olive Harcha Tassel Tales put a unique spin, pun intended, on up-cycling. Started by three sisters at the epoch of sustainability, responsible living, environmental awareness, and women’s empowerment — the brand is more than art for art’s sake. Through their output, they seek to bring to enterprise to the sometimes disenfranchised. They not only want to empower the creators of their clothing but also the women who adorn them. The shoes are constructed of vintage rugs making each slipper one of a kind. The design is a tribute to the babouche, actually a french word for the Moroccan slipper. The tassels are handmade, by the Al Kawtar women’s collective. Paying homage to their origin, the slippers are handcrafted in the souks of Marrakech and finished off with chrome-free leather.
