Tralee based golf tour operator attends PGA Show in Orlando
Tourism Ireland’s golf promotional programme for 2023 kicked off last week at the PGA Show in Orlando, Florida. Thirty-one (31) tourism companies from Ireland took part in this important event in the golfing calendar – including SWING Golf Ireland (based in Tralee). The PGA Show is one of the biggest golf exhibitions in the United States, attracting more than 10,000 golf professionals and journalists. Before the PGA Show kicked off, Ireland’s world-class golf was highlighted to some 100 golf pros, buyers and other stakeholders – at a special Ireland Golf Day, sponsored by Tourism Ireland, North & West Coast Links Golf Ireland and SWING Golf Ireland, at the Reunion Resort &
Golf Club near Orlando.
Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s Head of North America, said: “We were delighted to attend this year’s PGA Show in Orlando. The American golf market remains a priority for Tourism Ireland in 2023 and we will continue to promote Ireland as a top golf destination. We’re also taking every opportunity to highlight the fact that The Open will return to Royal Portrush in 2025 and that Adare Manor will host the Ryder Cup in 2027. Tourism Ireland will be pulling out all the stops once again to leverage the tourism potential of these prestigious sporting events, in the US and in our other important golf markets.
The Killarney Park reopens for the season on Thursday 9th February having undergone an extensive ground floor refurbishment.

Tralee Community Coming Up Roses!
The 2023 Kerry Community Rose Selections were officially launched this week at the Meadowlands Hotel, Tralee, with the announcement that Recovery Haven Kerry will benefit from funds raised at the first official Tralee Community Rose Selection. This will take place on the 12th of March in the Meadowlands Hotel, with seven other Community Rose events being held around the county contributing to many more very worthy local causes.
This year, the Rose of Tralee International Festival is starting a new Community Rose initiative.
“Our focus will be to collaborate with local communities across the county to hold Community Rose Selections, and through that process to support community fundraising in each of those areas. We want to put community at the heart of the Rose Festival. This new format makes the process of becoming a Rose or Rose Escort much easier and involves a fun local event for family and friends to show their support and community spirit.”
“The Kerry Rose Centre are delighted to be helping to raise funds county wide, and to shine a light through our Tralee Community Rose event on the work of the wonderful Recovery Haven for the significant impact that they have on the lives of Cancer patients and their families and friends throughout the Kingdom,” said Suzan O’Gara, Kerry Rose Centre Co-ordinator and Festival Director.
“The Tralee Community Rose Selection is one of eight local community events taking place in the lead up to this year’s Kerry Rose Selection on Sunday the 14th of May, with each Community Selection supporting a different local project or cause in need of fundraising,
“In the spirit of supporting local and creating a positive community buzz in each of these locations, we are
inviting all interested young women between 18 and 29 years of age, and young men aged 21 to 31, to send in their application forms as soon as possible to ensure they’re on time to enter their local Community Rose selection events.”
“Everyone at Recovery Haven Kerry is absolutely thrilled to be the chosen charity for this year’s inaugural Tralee Community Rose Selection and we are so excited to join forces with the Rose of Tralee team said Recovery Haven’s PR & Marketing officer, Marisa Reidy.
“ The donation made from the Tralee Community Rose competition will allow us to continue our work in offering free cancer support services to the people of Kerry and beyond. The confirmed Kerry Community Rose events are due to take place in Sneem, Killorglin, Kenmare, Tralee, Killarney, the ‘Skellig Coast’, Castleisland and Listowel throughout the month of March.
Selected Community Roses will hold their titles for a year and will also progress to take part in County Rose Selections where if selected, they will go on to represent their communities and counties on the International stage during the main Rose of Tralee Festival in August.
“Of course this isn’t an entirely new concept for Tralee. If we look back to the early days of the Festival, there was always a Kerry Rose AND a Tralee Rose right up until 1988, and the only time in the Festival’s history that a representative from
Warriors outgun Killorglin and edge closer to the top four
Garvey’s Tralee Warriors negotiated their way past Flexachem KCYMS (90- 78 ) to keep their hopes of claiming the fourth and final playoff place alive in a highly entertaining local derby encounter at a packed Killorglin Sports Complex on Saturday night, the Warriors now are in full control of their Super League
destiny. They sit just one win behind Neptune with the prospect of a final League game showdown in Tralee now looking more likely than ever. As they did in Ballincollig last week, the Warriors catapulted out of the traps in the third quarter to turn around a five-point deficit and build a nine-point lead midway through
the quarter. Jokic capped a quality display from the Warriors with a stunning three from the top of the arc to put the contest to bed. Next up for the Warriors is a home fixture against Super League newcomers EJ AllStars Sligo who make the trip to Tralee for the first time. It is the first of three home
the Kingdom happened to win the Rose of Tralee was in fact when Tralee Rose, Margaret O’Keeffe took the title in August of 1964. It is time for Kerry to take that spotlight once more!” added Ms O’Gara.
The 2023 Rose of Tralee International Festival will take place from August 18 – 22.
Applications to enter the 2023 Community Rose Selections for both Roses and Rose Escorts are now officially open. Visit www. roseoftraleecommunities.com for details or contact the Kerry Rose Centre team on any of their social media platforms.

An Bhfuil Gaeilge Agat? Calls for St Paddy’s Day Participants Announced
By Georgie DownesIt may only be February but preparations are already underway for this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade in Tralee. Last year attracted record numbers on to Denny Street and 2023 is gearing up to be another astounding display of Irish culture and celebratory spirit. This year’s parade is titled “Cúpla Focal” and aims to honour the glorious Irish Language. We all have an cúpla focal hidden away somewhere in the vault; probably a lot more then we realise, so this St Patrick’s Day, let’s bring it out into the light. Mix it up – throw
whatever Irish you have into your conversations, a little or a lot, just have fun with it. Oliver Hurley from Oliver Hurley Productions is coordinating applications.
“We are encouraging participating groups to embrace the Cúpla Focal by incorporating the Irish language and all things as Gaeilge as a theme. We are looking for participants of all ages from all communities and walks of life across Tralee - from sporting clubs, dance schools, social clubs and everything in between.”

Happy Valentines Day!
“Waves of Love”
by Mark FlanaganCrashing of waves bringing
That sound as the power is felt upon the rocks! The choir on high as birds fly towards the heavens. Your name I hear in the music. Your beauty I sense on view of blue skies without end. The sun is shining as youth is seen with summer! Each moment in the presence of your smile steals my voice.
Each word you spoke so softly, my heart grew weaker.
When time takes an image of youth like a wither rose. As seas roar without mercy with the bitter cold on aging hands.
It’s my soul that still sees the fire burning in the sight of your smile. When the wind blows with the storms breath. As weary your stance is,as if you are to fall. My hand holds you with warmth and passion . Together we hold each other with sheer will.
As strength is replaced with weaken limbs. A mumbling mouth speaking few words. It is with my fighting breath that I tell you” I love you” in good times and bad. It is my honour to serve you as time beats my being like the sea against the rocks.
Like raging winds and thunder which shake both the heavens and earth. My bones are shook feeling the grandeur of pain. As fierce the sense of frost upon my bones as ice cannot be seen. I shake from the cold but feel the warm breath of you on my neck like the summer in memory.
As a young man, you gave shape to my dreams and emotions being filled like a balloon to my heart. That my every thought had you forever by my side.
Each night I travel in a ship with the clouds taking me to a valley of dreams. I see you there like those times in the summer. Dancing with you is like feeling a soft breeze with the sun on my face. Gentle as the light shines in memory to take away the cloudy days with rain. As pain never takes hold.
I hold you in my arms, even with my dying breath as I know in my last moment i will travel with you in a ship aided by the clouds to valley without end.

Air Fryer Berry Pop Tart
Relive your childhood with this fruity Food Optimising take on a toaster tart. The contents will be scorchingly hot, so let it cool a little before you get stuck in 8 Syns per serving or Healthy B plus 2syns 10 minutes | Serves 1
This recipe was tested in a 4.3-litre air fryer. If yours is bigger, you may be able to cook more than 1 tart.
Ingredients
Ingredients
• 2 level tsp reduced-sugar jam (ours was strawberry)
• 2 small slices of bread from a 400g wholemeal loaf
• 40g fresh raspberries, plus extra to serve
• 1 medium egg, beaten
• ½ level tsp icing sugar
• Fat-free natural yoghurt, to serve
Method
1. Spread 1 tsp of jam over each slice of bread. Top 1 slice with the raspberries and lightly squish them with a fork. Brush the edges of the bread with the egg and top with the other slice of bread, jam-side down, like a sandwich. Lightly flatten with the palm of your hand and brush the top and sides with the rest of the egg, allowing it to soak in. Using a fork, gently press together the edges of the bread to seal. Lightly brush the top with a little more egg and dust with half of the icing sugar.
2. Preheat your air fryer to 200°C.
3. Carefully put the sandwich in your air fryer and cook for 4-5 minutes or until toasted and golden. Li onto a plate and slice into 2 triangles. Sprinkle with the remaining icing sugar and serve with the yogurt and extra raspberries.
4. TO OVEN COOK: Cook the tart on a non-stick baking tray at 220°C/fan 200°C/gas 7 for 10-15 minutes or until toasted and golden.
