Tralee revving up for the first Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry Rally in four years!
The Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry Rally is back after a four-year hiatus.
The 2023 event, the 43rd in total, is scheduled for April 1 and 2.
As ever, organisers, Kerry Motor Club have planned a host of innovations that have made the rally one of the most popular one-day events in Ireland.
A nine-stage 110km route over some of north Kerry’s finest rally roads is on offer, including variations of some classics in formats that have not been used for years. The rally will be based at the Rose Hotel, often
rated as the finest rally headquarters in the country as the service park in the hotel’s grounds and all rallyrelated activities like documentation, drivers briefing and the rally control room are all under one roof.
The Top Part West Coast Championship is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and fittingly, the Circuit of Kerry Rally was the opening round of the inaugural championship three decades ago.
The Kingdom of Kerry Championship has a new title sponsor for this year in the shape of
Central Car Sales, Farranfore.
Plans are afoot to bring the rally into the heart of Tralee too, with support from Tralee Chamber Alliance, the Rally Town festival, first introduced for the 2019 event will make a return to The Mall on Saturday afternoon. (April 1).
A reception for overseas visitors will be held in the Rose Hotel on Friday, March 31.
“We are looking forward to welcoming drivers, service crew,
volunteers and fans to Tralee on the first weekend of April.
More details will be announced in due course.
Meetings continue every Wednesday night at the Rose Hotel – all are welcome to attend.

AND NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS...

Tralee Chamber Alliance Welcome Armagh Fans
By Georgie DownesNothing compares with Croke Park on Sam Maguire day, true, but if you were lucky enough to book your ticket, then you’ll be standing shoulder to shoulder with probably the most passionate football fans in the land this Saturday, sharing banter and sideways looks, cheering on your side and giving minute-by-minute post-match analysis in a packed bar afterwards, because Austin Stack Park in Tralee is hosting a juicy prospect on the 24th February with Kerry at home to Armagh.
The Orchard County achieved their one-and-only All Ireland win in 2002 with a narrow 1-12 to 0-14 victory over Kerry so the question is this: are the current Champions over that defeat? What if Armagh were to beat this renowned Kerry side in their own back yard? That would
certainly be something for Armagh fans.
Tralee Chamber Alliance are delighted to welcome Armagh supporters to the Kingdom’s capital and even more delighted to report that the hotels booked out for the weekend.
“The match is a great boon for the town. Hoteliers are thrilled to have such a busy weekend in front of them and no doubt the local bars, restaurants and cafés will make all the fans feel very welcome. It promises to be a fantastic match.”
Said Colette O Connor, CEO of Tralee Chamber Alliance.Kerry Hoteliers Welcome Extension Of 9% Tourism Vat Rate And Energy Supports
Kerry hoteliers have welcomed the Government’s decision to extend the 9% tourism VAT rate and reform the energy support scheme for businesses.
Bernadette Randles, Chair of the Kerry Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) Branch, said that the measures announced now give tourism businesses greater certainty as they grapple with the impact of the cost-of-living crisis on Irish consumers and key overseas markets. “This weeks announcement is a clear recognition by the Government of the challenges facing tourism and hospitality, Ireland’s largest indigenous employer which currently supports over 250,000 livelihoods. It will go a long way in helping to sustain the recovery of our industry at a time when businesses and consumers are facing significant economic and financial headwinds.”
“A vibrant tourism industry is one of the most effective ways to spread employment opportunities and prosperity throughout the entire country. That is why the decision to extend the 9% VAT rate is so critical for communities and regions that rely on tourism as a major employer and driver of economic activity.”
Ms Randles noted that most European countries apply a reduced rate VAT rate to tourism accommodation: “When you look at the tourism VAT rates among our key European competitors, it is clear that the 9% rate is the right rate for Ireland. At 9%, Ireland is in line with our European neighbours, in particular those countries where tourism plays a key role in their economy.”
Ms Randles also welcomed changes to the TBESS energy support scheme designed to provide greater assistance to businesses experiencing exceptional increases in energy costs.
Historic night for Kerry soccer sees the Rams take the spoils
Kerry FC played their first-ever League of Ireland match against Cobh Ramblers, where Cobh took the lead in the 42nd minute with a goal from Tiernan O’Brien. At half-time, Kerry made two changes, with Leo Gaxha and Ryan Kelliher coming in. The substitutes made an immediate impact, and Gaxha had a close-range shot saved by Cobh’s Lee Steacy. Kerry’s momentum continued in the second half, with Shane Guthrie’s header going just
over the bar and Gaxha’s shot being cleared off the line. However, Kerry’s chances of equalizing were dashed when Wayne Guthrie was shown a yellow card for a handball outside the box, and Cobh’s Jack Doherty scored from the resulting free kick. Despite Kerry’s constant pressure until the end, Cobh won 2-0. The match was played in heavy wind conditions, with Graham O’Reilly receiving the Man of the Match award for his impressive

Minister Foley confirms €1.7 million funding for Kerry voluntary and community health providers
Minister for Education and Kerry
T.D Norma Foley welcomes confirmation of €1,760,614 in once-off funding for voluntary and community health providers in Kerry through the Government’s ‘Inflation Fund’.
This tranche of funding is paid directly to community-based and voluntary health and social care providers as part of Government measures to ease cost-of-living pressures.
In total, 107 organisations across the county will benefit from this funding stream with the St. John of God Community Services receiving €761,182 and the Kerry Parents and Friends Association awarded €504,907.
Minister Foley said: “I am delighted to receive confirmation of this vital funding which will help to ease pressures caused by increases in
the cost of living for voluntary and community health providers. These organisations are the backbone of
communities across Kerry and this funding will ensure that they can continue to provide pivotal services
in the face of inflationary pressures and rising energy costs.”

Five on the bounce for Warriors keeps top four hopes intact
Garvey’s Tralee Warriors kept their late season winning streak going as they secured their fifth win in a row on Saturday night by overcoming Moycullen by 8268 at the Tralee Sport Complex.
The Warriors took early control of the contest after James Connaire landed the opening score of the game for the visitors, The Warriors spread the game in the third as Jokic continued to torment the Moycullen defence with a hat trick of scores as the Warriors took a 63-50 lead into the final quarter. There was drama before the game ended when Daniel Jokubaitis was called for a second unsportsmanlike foul in the final minute and could now face a one match sanction following two early season technical fouls against Belfast. In the end a 82-68 win ensured that the Warriors are still right in the playoff race ahead of a big home game next weekend. Next up for the Warriors is a home tie with Killester at the Tralee Sports Complex next Saturday night with tip off at the slightly later than usual time of 8.00pm.
TWO IRISHMEN FLEW TO CANADA ON A HUNTING TRIP.
They chartered a small plane to take them into the Rockies for a week hunting moose. They managed to bag 6. As they were loading the plane to return, the pilot said the plane could take only 4 moose.
The two lads objected strongly. “Last year we shot six. The pilot let us take them all and he had the same sort of plane as yours.”
Very reluctantly, the pilot gave in and all six were eventually loaded. The plane took off. However, while attempting to climb over some mountains, even on full power, the little plane couldn’t possibly handle the load and went down.
Somehow, surrounded by the moose bodies, only Paddy and Mick survived the crash. After climbing out of the wreckage, Paddy asked Mick, “Any idea where we are?”
Mick replied, “I think we’re pretty close to where we crashed last year.” (Thanks Bar!)

Divide 210g of the yogurt between 6 x 80ml ice-lolly moulds, filling each about halfway. Freeze for 1-2 hours, or until they’re just starting to set.
In the meantime, put the co ee, cocoa powder and sweetener in a jug and whisk until well blended, then set aside to cool. Add the remaining yogurt and whisk until smooth, then chill.
When the vanilla mixture is almost set, divide the co ee mixture between the moulds. Push a lolly stick into the centre of each mould, going down into the vanilla layer, and freeze for a further 3-4 hours or until solid. To serve, dip the moulds in warm water for a few seconds and you should be able to easily slide the ices out.
