Minister Foley’s St. Patrick’s Day visit to Boston The Minister for Education Norma Foley TD addressed the Irish American Partnership during her visit to Boston as part of St Patrick’s Day celebrations. The Irish American Partnership connects the Irish and American communities directly with education in the North and South of Ireland. The Partnership has provided over $33 million in support to primary schools, higher education institutions and community organisations on the island of Ireland over the years. Addressing a gathering of the members of the Partnership Minister Foley said: “It is my great honour to be in Boston, the capital of Irish America, on this St. Patrick’s Day. I know that for the past two years we have not been able to celebrate our national day
and our Irish heritage as we usually would. “As Minister for Education in particular and as a former teacher, the Partnership’s focus on education, youth and wellbeing in Ireland, North and South, has special resonance for me. “Today the 17th of March we gather to celebrate our Irishness. It is a time to pay homage to that sense of togetherness that connects 80 million people around the globe. “Ireland is not just a place but a feeling, a tribal sense of belonging that we can never, or ever want to, leave behind. Ireland is a place that is privileged to enjoy democratic freedoms, handed down to us by previous generations.” The Minister added: “The events of these past weeks in Ukraine have shown us once
again that community is a universal value that demands meaningful solidarity with our fellow human beings. As the tragic events have unfolded, we have worked with our EU partners and through
our membership of the UN Security Council to support the people of Ukraine. “Today our national holiday is about solidarity rather than celebration.”
The ‘22 Paul Lucey Run is BACK!
The Press Launch of the Austin Stacks/Paul Lucey Memorial “Run for the Rock” 5&10k fun run was held at Connolly Park clubrooms on Monday evening, 21st March. Present for the occasion were the Lucey family and club friends.
This popular event was originally held in 2018 and became an annual feature in 2019. With Covid restrictions it was successfully held online with socially distant participation in 2020. Austin Stacks were unable to hold the event last year and now with the lifting of restrictions the event will be held on Bank Holiday Monday, 2nd May 2022, with a starting time of 11am. This is the 4th Paul Lucey Run for the Rock, but
perhaps the most significant as the importance of freedom, exercise, and friendship over the past three years have been very much restricted due to the pandemic. We are hoping to encourage as many Kids, teenagers, parents, grandparents, friends and family members to get outdoors and reconnect on Monday, May 8th and Walk or Run 5k/10k, while helping to keep them fit, healthy and promoting positivity within the community. 2018 and 2019 saw over 400 participants each year in what was an amazing community event and a fitting tribute to Paul Lucey, a proud Austin Stacks man who passed away in December 2017. Paul was a member of the Stacks All Ireland Winning Club
Family of the late Paul Lucey supporting “Run for the Rock.” Championship team of ’77, and trained many underage and senior teams down through the years, notably the 1986 and 1994 teams, who he coached to County Success, as well as being involved with training the ladies football team in his later years. This event will begin at the entrance to Austin stacks club
house at 11am. Registration is via www. eventbrite.ie by searching Paul Lucey Run of register through Austin Stacks Facebook or Twitter or on the morning of the event between 9am and 10.30.

TieDayFriday 2022 To Raise Funds For Mental Health First Aid Training KERRY Mental Health Association has announced details of the second #TieDayFriday which will take place on Friday 8th April 2022. Everyone in Kerry will be asked to wear a tie – preferably the most outrageous or colourful tie they can find – post a picture or video of themselves online and make a donation to Kerry Mental Health Association CLG (idonate.ie). The funds this year will go towards the cost of training instructors to facilitate the delivery of free communitybased Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Classes in Kerry. The General Manager of Kerry Mental Health Association, John Drummey, said: “Mental Health First Aid is the initial help given to someone who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or a

mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional support is received or until the crisis resolves. Through our ongoing engagement with business and community groups in Kerry, it is apparent that many people are not well informed about how to recognise mental health problems, how to respond to the person, and what supports are available.” The generosity of Kerry people during the first #TieDayFriday last year was overwhelming with approximately €17,000 raised to support the befriending and other mental health promotional activities undertaken by Kerry Mental Health Association. A similar level of support this year would fund the provision of four Mental Health First Aid Trainers and eight Mental Health First Aid Classes for up to a total of 160 participants (20 per class).
It’s up to you to set the amount to be donated while it will be great fun to see how many different ties will appear on social media on #TieDayFriday. Most people feel good about themselves when they dress up for an occasion. There’s hardly been a need to dress up, let alone wear a tie, over the past two years due to

the pandemic restrictions. Kerry Mental Health Association are grateful to Celsius Menswear in Tralee for lending their support again to #TieDayFriday 2022. Anyone who wishes to get involved or organise an event to support the project can contact John Drummey on 087 7909487 or email John@ KerryMentalHealth.ie. TRALEE ADVERTISER

It would seem that the whole country was touched by the news that Charlie Bird, a renowned broadcaster was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease MND. And people will be out en mass on April 2nd to support his fundraising efforts in the Climb for Charlie. Nora Butler, originally from Tralee, now living in Castleisland lost her mother Mary (RIP) and also 3 other female family members to MND, is joining in the fundraising effort. She is aiming to climb not only Carrontuohill but also Slive Bernargh in Northern Ireland, Ben Nevis in Scotland and Snowdon in Wales throughout the month of April. The funds raised will go to 2 very worthy charities Pieta House and the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. Research has made huge advancements in the treatment and also huge progress has been made by Irish researchers in the last few years. Says Nora “There probably isn’t a family in the country that hasn’t been touched by suicide and resources are always needed in terms of research and support for those affected. I will be dedicating the climbs to my late mother and my 3 cousins climbing a mountain for each of them.” To donate please go to www.idonate.ie/norab All donations are greatly received

THE TEAM AT THE CLINIC ARE HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ON COSMETIC AND HAIR RESTORATION ISSUES. My eyes were always my best feature but I’m not so sure anymore. I feel my eyes are really dropping; I can’t wear the eye makeup I used to. I don’t want to go under the knife but maybe a recommendation for a good eye cream?
with Billy O Meara (HRI Services)
Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology
Gillian.
Gillian, rest assured, a lot of people find the eye makeup that worked for them in the past needs to be modified; good brushes are important and less shimmer on the eyes is always more flattering. The skin under your eyes can be up to 10 times thinner than the rest of your skin. It shows signs of ageing more quickly; as it is more delicate and vulnerable than the rest of your face. As we age this skin becomes even thinner due to loss of collagen and elastin and as the eye area contains less collagen and elastin fibres, the area is more prone to sagging and wrinkles. A good eye cream, applied with your ring finger around the orbital bone, can really improve the tone and texture in the area. I recommend AluminEye, a rich , anti-ageing cream we have at CHRC here in Bon Secours. AluminEye significantly improves the appearance of dark circles, fine lines and puffiness in any skin type. It also helps increase firmness and elasticity. Another option is Retinol—it's not just for your face. Dermatologists love retinol because the vitamin A derivative has been shown to stimulate collagen production, making fine lines and wrinkles a distant memory. My advice with retinol is slowly, slowly; let your skin get used to this active ingredient and so I recommend Alumier retinol eye gel because it’s a very gentle slow release of retinol. Apply once the first week, twice the second week and three times the third week, leaving a night in-between each application.
Mary

TECHNOLOGY CORNER Netflix may be making changes
One of the best things about Netflix was that it was very laid back about people who shared passwords on their accounts. A college student could use their parents' account even once they'd moved out, or a former roommate could log in to their old account. But this could all to change as there is talks of charging extra for persons using the account outside the family home. Now, however, Netflix is testing a new feature that will prompt account owners who share their password to pay $2.99 for an "additional user. Due to the recent increase in the subscriptions and now if they charge extra for extra users outside the family home they may loose more that they gain.
Guest Wifi
Fast, reliable, and secure WiFi is essential to the hospitality industry. Regardless of whether you're managing the wireless network for a Bed and Breakfast, shops or hotel, the right tools and services can not only make your job easier, but also make your customers happier. Its important that you have good broadband speed or if that is not possible then install a managed switch so one person is not taking all the bandwidth. It’s a good idea to do a speed test near your modem and the go to the rooms to test again to insure there is not a big drop in speed . The last thing you want is a bad review that be easily fixed

AND NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS... from The Tralee Advertiser Team and Tralee Chamber Alliance
Tralee has Mother’s Day sorted! Go shopping and see for yourself! With Mother’s Day fast approaching, we want you to find the perfect gift for THE most important woman in your life. With that in mind, we’ve come up with a few ideas that will hopefully provide a little inspiration and leave your mum feeling all aglow inside. First up, jewellery. You can’t go wrong if you get it right and who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle. There’s a fantastic selection of jewellery shops in Tralee but we’ve narrowed it down to three. These are our favourite picks for under E100. Why not say it with flowers? If
you really want to deliver the ‘wow’ factor, send something extra special like a gorgeous wreath from Eleanor’s Florists. Your mum will love displaying it on the front door and when the neighbours admire it, she can name-drop you with pride! Prices range from 45 -155 euro so something for every budget. Next up, theatre tickets. Maybe your mum has all she needs in terms of ‘things’ and she’d like nothing more than a night of laughter. Who wouldn’t? Enter Shane Clifford, a comedian who’s built his name in Dublin and has ‘finally plucked up the

courage to return to his home town to tell jokes about class, mental health and Frubes.’ Tickets available from Siamsa Tiré. In fact, check out their entire Spring programme. It’s full of musicals, One Man Shows, dance extravaganzas and of course, traditional music. Now for something different. Susan Crean Dental & Facial Aesthetics offer all sorts of treatments to enhance and refresh inner and outer beauty. Maybe a little tweak is exactly what your mum wants but never got round to it. Surprise her with a Consultation. Call them on 0667117577 to book.

Finally, give your mum a great book. O Mahony’s are currently running special Mother’s Day offers including 20% off online sales and a ‘book-a-month’ gift bundle for 6 months for €120. They have a wonderful selection of books by female authors old and new. My personal favourite, Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier is available in paperback for just € 11.25. Hours of escapist pleasure right there. Happy Mother’s Day!

Great piece about Geraldine on Radio Kerry’s ‘Kerry Women Sport‘
Geraldine O’Shea. On five different occasions Geradline was named on the Ladies Football All-Stars team, as well as their Team of the Decade in 2010. She captained Kerry in 2003 when Kerry won the Munster Ladies football championship against Waterford before taking up the role again in 2008. O’Shea was Kerry’s longest serving Intercounty footballer, playing when the kingdom last won the All Ireland in 1993 and winning an All Star more than a decade later in 2004. She has also starred at international level in soccer.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER their Division 2 status for 2023. Is there a harder working set of players in the game as many of these have been in action weekend after weekend with Clanmaurice and Kerry?
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR LEAGUE TITLES ON THE AGENDA IN VARIOUS SPORTS: While it is still only March a number of teams are already eyeing up early silverware with League titles at the business end.
against DBS Eanna this weekend while the other game is the all Cork clash of C&S Neptune and Tradehouse Ballincollig with the League final down for the National Basketball Arena the following weekend.
KERRY GAA TRIO BATTLE FOR LEAGUE TITLES: All three senior Kerry sides are still in the hunt for League titles. The Kerry hurlers are first into action as there Allianz League semi-final has been confirmed for this Saturday when they travel to take on Mullingar with a 1pm throw-in in TEG Cusack Park. They could have qualified last week but were narrowly beaten by Down 1-19 to 0-20 points who the winners of this Saturday’s game will now meet in the final. The Kerry Ladies have achieved their first aim of the season and have qualified for the Lidl Ladies National League Division 2 final. They had three points to spare over Monaghan, 1-14 to 1-11, in their semi-final. They will take on Armagh in the League decider which is set for Croke Park at 2pm on Sunday April 10th. The Kerry senior side have the luxury of qualifying for the League final with a game to spare. Their latest win came away to Armagh and in a sign of how well Kerry are playing three players have been named on this week’s GAA. ie Football Team of the Week this week – Jason Foley, Diarmuid O’Connor and Paudie Clifford. In an aside three other Kerry players were named on the Electric Ireland Higher Education Rising Stars Football Team of the Year – Fionan Mackessy (who was named on the hurling team the previous week which is a rare double), Tony Brosnan and David Clifford. Kerry welcome Donegal to the Fitzgerald Stadium this Sunday throwing in at 1.45 and while they know they have a League final to look forward to Jack O’Connor and his management team will make sure that they go all out to continue their unbeaten League run. Aside from Kerry who are on 11 points the other 6 teams are separated by three points with Mayo and Armagh on seven, Kildare, Donegal and Tyrone on 5 and Dublin and Monaghan on 4 so the other place in the final and the relegation places are still to be decided.
FIRST UNDERAGE SOCCER SILVERWARE OF THE SEASON ON OFFER THIS SATURDAY: After two years with very little soccer everyone was delighted to have the Leagues back this season and the first of these come to a conclusion this Saturday. In the 13’s Division 1 St Brendan’s Park C and Iveragh United meet in the League play-off in Killorglin at 2pm. Both sides ended their League campaigns with a record of 8 wins and 2 draws. The game between the two sides finished in a 4-4 draw so another cracker is on the cards.
WARRIORS INTO SEMI-FINALS: Knock-out basketball came to the Sports Complex last weekend and Garvey’s Tralee Warriors qualified for the SuperLeague semi-finals thanks to a comfortable 88-71 point win over UCD Marian. The Cup winners were always in control leading 27-14, 42-27 and 6446 at the end of the quarters. Aaron Calixte led the scoring on 28 points followed by Eoin Quigley on 14 with Kieran Donaghy and Daniel Jokubaitis both hitting 11 points. The win sets up an away semi-final

19’S IN LEAGUE OF IRELAND ACTION: The Kerry 19’s, under Billy Dennehy and James Sugrue have had an exciting start to their SSE Airtricity campaign which has seen them defeat Treaty United 3-2, narrowly lose away to Galway United by the same scoreline and then beat Wexford 3-2 in Mounthawk Park last Sunday. Cian Brosnan and Daniel Okwute have made great starts to the season and are leading the scoring chats with four goals each. This Sunday they are away to Cobh Ramblers, on the new Stephen Ireland funded All Weather pitch, with the home side having won one of their three games to date. The Kerry 17’s are not back in action until the following weekend. GREEN CBS JUST COME UP SHORT IN MUNSTER SOCCER FINAL: The Green Tralee CBS enjoyed a great run to the Munster U19’s soccer final with wins over St Brendan’s College Killarney, Newcastlewest, PBC in Cork and Gaelcholaiste Mhuire who they defeated 2-0 in the semi-final. The goals came from Ryan Guerin and Cian Brosnan with goalkeeper Dimitar Dimatrov saving an early penalty. In the final they took on De La Salle from Waterford with the game played in Carrigaline. The Tralee boys gave it everything in the final but it was the opposition that scored the only goal of the game to take the win and the Dr Tony O’Neill Munster u19 Cup for Large Schools. KERRY CAMOGIE TEAM WIN ON THE ROAD: Having gone down to Galway in their Littlewoods Camogie League game the Kerry senior ladies turned things around with a very good away win defeating a strong Laois side 1-08 to 2-03. While they were still missing some players those on duty were excellent led by Patrice Diggin who hit 1-07 (7 frees) in the win that secures
