Irish Arts Industry bounces back with ‘Celtic Steps‘ at the Brandon Hotel Celtic Steps The Show returned to the Brandon Conference Centre in Tralee with an explosive performance of their Irish music and dance extravaganza on Tuesday the 3rd of May. The Show hosted a special launch night, which was attended by the locals of Tralee as well as international guests from France, Switzerland and the Ukraine, amongst others. David Rea Narrator and Co. Producer of the Show remarked, “It was great to be back on stage at my hometown of Tralee for the opening night of Celtic Steps. The reception from the audience was fantastic and the atmosphere was electric.” General Manager of the Brandon Hotel Tralee, Stephen Quinn also added, “We are looking forward to a busy

season and are very happy to have David and his team back with us.” The Show, which has been a cornerstone of Killarney’s entertainment scene for many years, had originally launched in the Brandon Conference Centre Tralee for the very first time in 2019. However, like many other shows in the arts industry in Ireland, it was forced to cancel all operations for the 2020 and 2021 season due to the pandemic. The return of the Show for the 2022 season has created a total of twenty jobs for Tralee and over fifty jobs in total for Kerry within the arts and entertainment sector. It also hopes to bring a boost to the local economy as it continues to attract guests worldwide to its lively rendition of Irish dance, culture and music,

featuring world champion dancers and musicians. “It’s amazing to finally see signs of the arts industry in Ireland returning and we are delighted to be part of it with the employment of twenty dancers, singers, musicians

THE TEAM AT THE CLINIC ARE HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ON COSMETIC AND HAIR RESTORATION ISSUES. My friend recently had a course of treatments with CHRC for her tummy. She said she two different devices used on her tummy area for toning and fat reduction. I saw a great difference. Can you tell me more about the treatments please?

Simon

Our local body brand ambassador, swimming champion Elaine Burrows Dillane is delighted with her results. Our Bliss laser treatment targets stubborn pockets of fat, improving body contours without surgery, scars or downtime. It’s an FDA approved, minimally invasive treatment that selectively breaks down fat cells which are then naturally eliminated by the body. Our Bliss Skin Tightening treatments is one our most popular treatments for the abdomen area. Also non-surgical, this is a non-invasive, safe and comfortable treatment. The advanced radio frequency technology tightens the skin and reduces circumference to contour the body. The applicator has a deep effect on the tissue; skin will be firmer and smoother. A course of treatments is recommended and treatment time is usually 30 minutes for skin tightening and 30 mins for fat reduction. The area will feel quite warm and will stay that way for up to two hours after your treatment. A lot of people sleep during the treatment; can be very relaxing after a busy day. After the relaxation, we do recommend that you exercise, e.g. a brisk walk, to help stimulate the results. And, like all treatments, maximise your treatment result with lots of water and a healthy diet.

Kerry Hospice needs Christmas Card Artists already!

With just 230 days left to Christmas, members of the Kerry Hospice Foundation are busy planning and preparing for the launch of their eagerly awaited, and much in demand, creative Christmas cards. This year they are enlisting the help of the Kerry public to come up with creative designs for the unique collection of cards which are a major strand of funding for the Kerry Hospice Foundation. “Kerry Hospice Foundation is looking for your ideas for our annual Christmas Card pack. All artists from around the county are invited to submit paintings of Christmas and we are open to your interpretation of what Christmas is for you. As a guideline we might suggest something on the lines of winter country scenes,

busy street scenes, some famous landmarks from around the county all with a Christmas theme,” said Ursula O’Connell from the Kerry Hospice Foundation. The Christmas card committee would also encourage artists of all abilities and age to create some nativity scenes to embrace the message of Christmas and some playful scenes to include children, the heart of Christmas for all families. The card will measure 19x14cms and can be landscape or portrait. “The Christmas Cards are very popular with our supporters and a huge part of our fundraising campaign each year. This is an ideal forum for the successful artists to showcase

their creative work. For many years we have been fortunate, honoured and delighted to have the incredible support of Kerry Group who has generously sponsored the cards. This has enables us to produce a top quality product that wings its way all over the World at Christmas time.” Kerry Hospice Foundation is asking artists and the

public to submit their work by June 24th. Paintings can be dropped into or posted to the Suaimhneas Centre at the Palliative Care Unit, Kerry General Hospital, Tralee. All work will be returned in due course. For any further details please contact Ursula O’Connell, Christmas Card Committee at 087 7450126.

HEALTHY RECIPES

Has it really been 5 years?

Hi folks, no recipe this week just a few words, so last week was 5 years of my popular Recipes page in The Tralee Advertiser! And what a five years that has been! I opened Croi restaurant, moved it ,and then a global pandemic! The last 2 years have been... let’s say challenging for all of us! Staying home for long periods of time... not seeing family & friends... for me , not cooking for people, It’s not just what I do, its who I am! Thankfully we are at the far side almost, and life has returned to nearly normal. And with that came the first Tralee Food Festival since 2019! And while I sit on the committee of it, in fairness I do very little.... Much, if not all, of the event is organised by David Scott in Tralee Chamber Alliance. This year was spectacular, on all fronts... pulling it altogether in such a short space of time and you, the readers, flocked to it! Numbers were big, the town was buzzing all weekend, and the weather finally played its part for the whole weekend , unlike previous years! We have a beautiful town and fantastic people that we don’t appreciate half enough. All the amenities we have and restaurants/coffee houses, pubs and hotels , the events and the shows, the walk ways & byways, sports & beaches and with the new Greenway and Skatepark on the way, we are blessed to live in the Rose of the Kingdom.... Noel

“Sometimes we focus so much on what we don’t have, that we fail to appreciate and use what we do have“

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! AN IRISHMAN APPLIES FOR A JOB AT HIS LOCAL STABLES After being shown around the yard the Irishman was asked if he has ever shoed a horse before, After a long pause... He replies “I’ve haven’t, but I once told a donkey to buzz off”

A MAN WALKS INTO A PET STORE AND ASKS FOR A POLAR BEAR

surprisingly the store has one for sale. But the assistant warns the man: “Do never, under any circumstances, tickle the bear behind the ears.” Of course, the man buys the bear and cheerfully takes it home. After a while he can’t help the urge any more and tickles the bear behind the ears. With a wild roar the polar bear lunges at the man, who runs away in great fear. The bear chases him through the whole house, down the stairs, into the kitchen and around the table, where he finally catches up to the man, pats him on the back and says: “Tag, you’re it!”

THE UKRAINIAN FARMER AND HIS SON

A Ukrainian farmer had a son who wanted to go to university “Son, you not want to go university; stay here and work with me on farm” “No father. I go to university to learn many things” So the son goes. Months later, the son comes home for break. The father says, “So my son, you go to university. What you learn?” And the son says “I learn ‘Pi r squared’” “You dumb son of a @#"@#! See what good university does for you! Pies are round! Cakes are square!”

WHO HAS BETTER FRIENDS

A husband and wife are having a friendly debate one night, centered on the topic of who has better friends. They each offer a wide variety of anecdotes and stories, but in the end, they decide to put it to the test. “Here’s what we’ll do,” the wife suggests. “I’ll call your friends, and you call mine. We’ll both pretend that the other person hasn’t come home yet, and that we’re worried. Whoever’s friends give the best advice about where to find us clearly know us better, and therefore are better.” The husband agrees to the game, and they both head off into separate rooms. When they reconvene a half an hour later, the husband looks defeated. “Okay, honey,” he says, “I think it’s pretty clear that you have better friends. Every one of them listed each of your favorite restaurants, salons, shops, and art galleries, and they had phone numbers for each of them. They knew your work hours by heart, your office extension, your boss’s name, and even the route that you take home.” The wife shakes her head. “No, dear,” she replies, “you have better friends.” “Why do you say that?” asks the husband. “Well,” the wife replies, “most of them said that you’d been at their place, and three of them said that you were still there.”

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER In the Seniors Development League Division 6 Round 3 it finished St Pats 1-07 Clounmacon 1-09.

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR CAR LOVERS TO GET THEIR FIX OF NOSTALGIA: While everyone loves to watch live sport there is also something special about watching stars of the past who were our heroes performing live – even if they might not be at the peak of their gameslike they once were! For Kerry GAA lovers the team from the golden years can still draw a crowd, for soccer fans it’s the great Jack Charlton side – Ronnie Whealan was recently in the Huddle Bar and for snooker buffs they have their chance when Ken Doherty, Denis Taylor and John Virgo will be in Ballingarry Hotel in the coming weeks. Motor Sport fans will be out in force on May 27th and 28th when Déjà vu Tralee will see many former stars – both the drivers and the cars – on some of the great North and West Kerry stages. The event is one of the main highlights of the Kerry Motor Club 50th anniversary celebrations. Amongst those tackling the likes of Slea Head, Minard Castle, Slea Head and the Conor Pass will be Craig Breen, Kris Meeke, Austin MacHale, Belgian Patrick Snijers amongst many other in the 150 strong field. On the car front 30 Fords, 16 Porsches, 14 Minis and 11 Subarus are the most possible entries. Fans can see the top 30 cars on the Mall from 9.30am on May 28th There is a sold-out gala dinner in the host hotel The Rose and all the profits are going to Recovery Haven. Courtesy of Tralee motorsport journalist Sean Moriarty (Kerry Motorsport News) we will have more details next week as to the best places to watch the event. ON THE GAA PITCHES: Following on from the Kerry seniors win last weekend where they were much better than a Cork side who will have taken some positives from their display, the hurlers take centre stage this Saturday. They welcome Offaly to Austin Stack Park in another must win Joe McDonagh game. It throws in aty 1pm. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: Well done to all those who were involved in the Austin Stacks All-Stars and the next session is this Sunday from 10am. The u7’s are preparing for their Go Games while the u9’s are getting ready for their trip to Dublin on May 22nd. The Kilmacud Croke Tournament takes place at the UCD Grounds. The 11’s are in County League action while the 13’s Division 3 Amber side went down to Ardfert B. Kyle Yoxall was named Man of the Match as he played in goal and at full forward. They bounced back to defeat Ballymac in the 5th Round. Team Black defeated Ballymac in the final round of Phase 1. Phase 2 will commence on May 22nd. The u15’s continued their County League Division 1

The u12 Blue team went down to a strong Ballyduff side. The Amber side put in a great battle in Lixnaw against the AbbeyKilix combination. The u15’s were in action in mid-week while the u17’s defeated Rathmore 2-09 to 1-07. The Junior B’s had a big win over Duagh 3-12 to 1-05 but the seniors went down to Kilmoyley 4-11 to 0-07. The u8’s Girls joined the boys in preparing for the Go Games with the u9’s and u10’s putting in great work in training. The u11’s played the penultimate Go Games game away to Finuge. They play An Ghaeltacht in their final game. Phase 2 begins on May 26th. The u12 Girls put in a great effort against Beale and played Dingle in the League last night, Thursday night. They play the North Kerry League Plate Final on Sunday in Abbeydorney. The 13’s put in a great effort against Castlegregory and take on Duagh on Sunday at 6pm.

JOHN MITCHEL’S NEWS: The young boys and girls in the Academy put in a great effort in training and will be back on the field this Sunday. New players are always welcome at the complex in Ballyseedy on Sunday mornings. In the u12 Girls North Kerry Division 4 Plate Final John Mitchels were the winners 3-11 to 0-05. The club was delighted for Amy Noonan who plays with the team and won the 600m gold medal in the County Athletics Championships last Sunday. The u14’s were back in training while the u16 Girls hosted Castlegregory in Round 4 of the County League with the visitors taking the win. In the Boys section the u11’s played two teams against the Rockies and took on Milltown/Castlemaine in the final Phase 1 League game. The u13 Boys played their final Phase 1 County League game against Keel/ Listry with the first up and enjoying a 1-13 to 2-04 win. The A’s were involved in a cracker coming out on top by a point 2-14 to 3-10. Phase 2 begins on May 22nd. The u15 boys went down to Firies while the 17’s defeated Glenbeigh/Glencar/ Cromane by two points in the Central League. The Senior Ladies put in a great effort against Group B favourites Southern Gaels B but just went down in the end. The Senior Men are at home to Killorglin on Saturday at 7pm in the County League. The first on-line Lotto draw takes place on Sunday May 22nd at Ballyseedy at 11am. ON THE SOCCER PITCH: The Kerry LoI 19’s enjoyed an away win in the Mark Farran Cup where they defeated Cobh Ramblers 2-0 thanks to goals from Daniel Okwute and Ronan Teehan. They welcome Shelbourne to Mounthawk Park in the second round this Sunday from 2pm. The 17’s drew 3-3 against the same opposition, also away, with Josh Bowler getting 2 and Andrew Kerins 1. At the younger ages the Kerry SchoolBoys Girls Cup finals are getting underway.
