THE TEAM AT THE CLINIC ARE HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ON COSMETIC AND HAIR RESTORATION ISSUES. I know the importance of a good SPF but can you explain the difference between physical and chemical sunscreens? Brian. Hi Brian, Physical sunscreen uses minerals that sit on top of skin and reflect away UV rays. Chemical sunscreen uses ingredients that absorb and transform UV rays into heat. I prefer a physical sunscreen as I find they are less reactive on sensitive skin. Physical sunscreens contain active mineral ingredients, which work by sitting on top of the skin to deflect damaging UV rays away from the skin. Less product is needed to protect the skin because there is no risk of spaces between the sunscreen molecules after application. While sunshine will give us some much needed vitamin D, we all know that time spent in the sun makes our skin age faster than normal, evidenced by fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation. To protect your skin, I recommend applying sunscreen to your face every day, all year long, 365 days a year. At CHRC here at Bon Secours Hospital, we stock medical-grade sunscreens that are paraben and sulfate free. My favourite is award-winning Sheer Hydration Broad Spectrum SPF 40, a sheer physical sunscreen that provides powerful broad-spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays. It uses a combination of zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and moisturising vitamin E and is packed with free-radical-quenching antioxidants, including a stable vitamin C, resveratrol, grape seed extract and glutathione. It is available with or without a tint. The versatile tint blends beautifully on the skin creating a sheer healthy glow. Prevention is better than cure, so always have your SPF near to hand.

280 New Jobs for Tralee! Irish healthcare administrative support firm RelateCare has announced the creation of 280 new jobs at its facility in Tralee. 30 new staff members have already been hired and are currently working at the company’s Tralee hub located on the Munster Technological University campus with efforts underway to recruit 250 additional workers in management executive roles, support-function staff and frontline access-tocare personnel as part of its ongoing expansion plans. RelateCare operates as an extension to healthcare organisations by providing administrative support and clinical advice through various technologically-advanced platforms. RelateCare group chief

executive Conor O’Byrne said: “The global pandemic has changed the way that organisations communicate with patients and has increased the need for virtual engagement. “In a time of unprecedented demand for healthcare services we are incredibly proud to create these new opportunities as part of our ongoing growth and increasingly pivotal role in supporting so many healthcare organisations, at home in Ireland and abroad. “Throughout the pandemic, we have gained important experience in providing our employees with working models that span geographies and allow flexible work-fromhome solutions. “We plan to operate these

models at our second Irish physical location at the Innovation Centre on the Munster Technological University campus, with a mixture of both on-site and remote working. Our footprint will continue to expand in the region over the coming years.”

What’s more, if you have the cúpla focal, RelateCare intend to make good use of its proximity to the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht area to expand its Irish-speaking employee base.

On your bikes for Coventry! Support the kids! The boys and girls representing Tralee and Kerry at this year’s International Children’s Games are organising a Spinathon to raise some funds toward their upcoming competitions in Coventry in August. The Spinathon event takes place on Saturday July 16th at Manor Retail Park from 10:30am and these young athletes will cycle for one hour each on two Spin Bikes during the day, with collection buckets available for contributions to the fund. The event is also currently linked to an I Donate page on the Tralee International Children’s Games Face Book page at the following link: https://www.idonate.ie/ fundraiser/traleeicg “Some of our usual fund raising mechanisms such as bag packing days, which were

always so well supported by the public, are not yet available to us after Covid 19, and so the idea of holding a Spinathon event was born” explained Mike Culloty, chairman, Tralee ICG.”The decision to link it online through our Face Book page to I Donate will give people the opportunity to make an offering online or on the day itself in Manor”. There are now over 300 children in Kerry who have competed at the International Children’s Games since 2005 in Coventry and this year’s return to Coventry as the host city will rekindle fond memories for all participants during the years since then. Kerry Airport Welcomes DAA Onward-Transfer Facility For Passengers Flying To Dublin KERRY Airport is happy to announce that passengers traveling on the twice daily Ryanair service to Dublin can now avail of an airport transfer facility being offered by the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA). Passengers with an onward flight out of Dublin Airport (on the same day as their KerryDublin flight) can now transit straight to their next Departure Gate without having to go landside and be re-screened. Regardless of the air carrier of the onward flight, passengers must be checked in and have a valid boarding pass on arrival at Dublin Airport to avail of this facility. Kerry Airport CEO, John Mulhern, said: “We are entering the peak summer travel period and this positive development for passengers flying from Kerry to onward destinations through Dublin is most welcome. We are

12

grateful to Minister of State, Hildegarde Naughton, and the Deputy Government Chief Whip, Brendan Griffin, the Department of Transport, the DAA, and the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) for working together to make it happen. We expect this new transfer system will take some of the stress out of traveling during what is a very busy time for all airports.”

This facility is available to passengers with Cabin baggage only. Passengers with hold baggage must collect their checked-in baggage as per normal on arrival in Dublin airport and proceed landside to check-in for their next flight. They will be issued with a ‘domestic transfer voucher’ which will expedite their entry to the Security screening area at Dublin airport once their luggage is checked in. Kerry Airport is ideally located

for anyone wishing to travel on business or for pleasure with direct flights to seven destinations including: Dublin, London Stansted, London Luton, Manchester, Frankfurt Hahn, Alicante and Faro with Ryanair.

Good Skin Naturally Our skin is the largest organ in the body and covers approximately 20 square feet. It protects us from the elements, regulates the body temperature and allows us the sensations of touch, heat and cold. It is a passageway that helps rid our body of unwanted toxins and prevents chemical and waste build up. If our pores are congested and blocked with chemicals and pollutants this can prevent the skin from functioning properly. Like every other part of our body, our skin responds to care and attention. Bright, vibrant skin can signal health and vitality. Looking after it, can help slow down the ageing process, keeping it healthier for longer. What we put on our skin is just as important as what we put into our bodies; both have an effect on our overall health. Remember your skin absorbs about 60% of what you put on it and when these products contain artificial ingredients this places an unnecessary burden on our bodies’ detoxification process and your immune system, including the skin. Some of these chemicals can build up and remain in the body for long periods of time before they are completely eliminated. Most of us use several skin and body care products daily, but when was the last time you looked at the ingredients in any of the products you are using? By choosing to use natural or organic products you can be assured this will have a positive effect on your body and your skin. Becoming an informed consumer allows you to make smart choices when purchasing your natural product.

TRALEE ADVERTISER

There is a vast selection of natural products available and are just as fabulous and effective as the more widely known brands. Some of our favourite natural moisturisers, cleansers, body washes, etc in-store include HAREBELL HERBS, DR MAHERS, DR HAUSCHKA, TRILOGY, and KINVARA. Remember healthy skin comes from within so some important supplements to consider include Omega 3:6:9 we would recommend ESKIMO, VIRIDIAN or NORDIC NATURALS. Take a ZINC supplement to help maintain healthy skin, hair and nails. VITAMIN B12 may help with the reduction of tiredness and fatigue (which can show on your skin). POMEGRANATE EXTRACT is high in antioxidants and may help to reduce spots and wrinkles on the skin. SELENIUM is essential to the body’s antioxidant defence. May help prevent DNA from oxidative damage. To discuss these products and what will suit your requirements best, call in your local Horan’s Healthstore Until next time, stay healthy

New Contactless Pay Parking Machines have hit the streets! Kerry County Council began the process of installing new Contactless Pay Parking Machines in public car parks in Tralee on Tuesday last , June 21st. The new machines, which will allow for users to pay for their parking tickets by card as well as cash, will cater for growing trend towards non-cash payments. The Tralee Municipal District commenced Phase 1 of this project in the Brandon Car Park machines and will be initially installing 20 locations in the public car parks around Tralee: Brandon Carpark,Garvey’s Carpark,Balloonagh Carpark,Parklands Carpark,The Tannery Carpark,The Abbey Carpark,St. Johns Carpark,Dom O’Donnell’s Slatt’s Carpark. Following this phase, the installation of contactless pay parking machines will commence for on-street parking locations, with the on-street element expected to be completed in July. “It’s hugely positive to have these machines installed around Tralee,” Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Johnnie Wall stated. “We are increasingly moving towards a cashless society, and people often don’t have cash on them when they go to pay for a parking ticket. To have these machines installed will help greatly with this issue.”

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR KERRY FOOTBALL CLUB SETS OUT ITS AGENDA: Club CEO Brian Ainscough from the US and Sporting Director Billy Dennehy met the clubs and the media this week to outline the plans for Kerry Football Club as they continue to go through the Licensing process with the aim of getting a place in next seasons League of Ireland. While the process is a very comprehensive one those behind Kerry Football Club are very confident that they can give the League of Ireland Licencing Department the guarantees that will see Kerry enter the senior LoI. A delegation from the FAI including League Director Mark Scanlon and FAI Facilities Manager were also in Mounthawk Park to meet with the new club and Licencing Officer Adrian King. There are a number of upgrades that will need to made at the Tralee ground to have it ready for the home and travelling fans. However everyone involved is very positive that all these boxes will be ticked by the time the paperwork by Kerry Football Club has to be submitted in late September. And then its fingers crossed until November when the FAI will announce who has been granted a licence for the 2023 season and if Kerry Football Club will be the 10th team in the SSE Airtricity League Division One. SOCCER SEASON CONTINUES WITH HIGH PROFILE GAMES: It might be the end of June but there is still lots of action on the soccer front. While the u17 League of Ireland side might have lost 2-0 to Shamrock Rovers the result doesn’t tell the story of the game. A goal in the second minute of injury time at the end of the first half and in the 92nd minute gave the Dublin side the win but they knew they were in a game after a cracking encounter at Mounthawk Park. The Kerry 19’s made the trip to the UL in Dublin to take on Derry City and came away with a very impressive 4-0 win thanks to goals from Cian Brosnan 2, Cianan Cooney and Eddie Ward. The Kerry League of Ireland 14’s side were in Waterford at a pre League of Ireland tournament alongside 7 other teams including Blackburn Rovers. Kerry defeated Klub Kildare 2-1 in their first game. SFAI Inter League Glory the hope for KSBGL sides: After the exploits of the Gaynor and Kennedy Cup the action turns to the SFAI Inter League finals this weekend with games taking place in Charleville and Cahir as 25 competitions come to a close. The two Kerry sides are in action in Charleville with the 15’s Boys taking on Limerick District at 2.30pm followed by the 13’s Girls who go up against North Tipperary kicking off at 4.30pm. We wish Eoin O’Mahony and Siobhan Cushen and their squads all the best in these Inter League finals. BIG WEEKEND ON THE GAA FRONT: The Kerry minors have had a roller coaster Championship but will be high on confidence after their quarter final

26

Friday 24th June 2022

win over Tyrone. We wish James Costello and his squad all the best as they take on Mayo in the semi-final at O’Connor Park, Tullamore on Saturday. Kerry fans will be hoping that Jack O’Connor has a full squad to pick from as they face their first real test of the senior championship. Kerry are in Croke Park on Sunday to face familiar foes Mayo as the Race for Sam really gets underway. The Kerry Ladies know a win this Saturday in Killarney over Westmeath will secure their place in the knockout stages of the TG4 Ladies All Ireland Senior Football Championship. The game throws in at 1pm. PARNELLS NEWS: Over 30 players trained with the U7’s this week ahead of their game against Crotta. Tomas Kelliher was named Player of the Week. The u8’s are had a very enjoyable session where Clara Kate O’Connor was named the Player of the Week. The u9’s really enjoyed their game against Crotta. The u12 Amber Team really enjoyed their game against Cillard proving all the training has been playing off. The u14 Amber team took on Ballyduff in Round 2 of the County League and while the visitors took the win the team put in a great effort. The club is looking for members to take part in the various competitions in Scor na bPaisti. Contact Scor officer Damien if you are interested. There are still some places available for the Summer Camp – Monday 18th to 21st July from 10am to 1pm. The Camp is open to Boys and Girls aged 5 to 13 and equipment will be available to borrow. The u15 Feile side head to Stamullin on Friday with games over the weekend and we wish Brian and the squad all the best. The club was once again delighted to be represented by its players on a number of county squads. ST PATS NEWS: Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 3,6,13 and 25 with the next Jackpot being e5500. The club reminds all those who haven’t paid their membership to register as soon as possible. There was a great response from the Academy parents who took part in a walk to support the clubs friend and neighbour Mary Gardiner who is completing 100k in 30 days for Breast Cancer Ireland. Thanks to all who donated. There is a 3k road race this Friday from the bridge at 7pm for the same cause. Well done to all the underage players who trained this week and will be out on the fields again this weekend. The u11’s have two games this week. The u12 Girls defeated Abbeydorney away in the County League with Aisling O’Mahony named Footballer of the Week. The u13’s game was called off while the u15’s played in mid-week. The Seniors enjoyed a big win over Beaufort C in the Development League Round 5. They play Glenflesk in the next

round. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The Feile Fundraiser was a huge success and the clubs thanks all the generous sponsors and all those who took part with over e2000 raised. The re-fixed Round 8 of the County League saw the seniors draw with Kerins O’Rahillys 1-11 to 0-14. This sees the team move to the top of the table on 14 points with Dr Crokes and Dingle on 13 points with two rounds left. The B’s went down by two points 0-12 to 0-10 against Ardfert in Round 10 of the County League. The C’s defeated Rahillys 1-10 to 0-10. The win looks like they have qualified for the semi-finals. In the Lotto there was no winner from the numbers drawn 7, 16, 18 and 22 with the next jackpot being e2,600. At underage level the All Stars put in another great session which they really enjoyed. They train again this Sunday morning at 10am and newcomers are always welcome. The Academy and underage players all trained at the regular times at the weekend. And the 15’s are in Feile action this weekend. In the u13’s the Black team won away at Milltown/Castlemaine but the Amber team lost out to the same opposition.

ON THE GREENS – PITCH & PUTT: The Bob Casey Memorial Inter-Club Strokeplay event came to a conclusion and again it came down to total strokes over the five rounds to decide the outcome. Tralee held a one-point lead going into the final night but Newmarket were always in with a great chance as the final round was on their course. And so it proved as their combined score of 226 gave them their first ever 10 point performance in a Bob Casey round. But the title was between Tralee and Deerpark. Killarney took second and Tralee third on the night meaning both clubs finished on 45 points. So it came to the stroke count and Tralee ended with 1127 and Deerpark on 1142 meaning Tralee took the title for the first time since 2018. It was a special and poignant win for the club after the death of Club Chairman Tim Scannell at the start of the year. Listowel took the third spot on the podium on 39.5 points. The Tim Scannell Memorial Inter-Club Matchplay is now underway starting in Tralee this week. This weekend the attention is on Listowel as they host the Munster u16 Matchplay Finals for both boys and girls with Kerry entrants from Listowel, Deerpark and Tralee.

O’RAHILLY NEWS: The local derby in the Senior County League Division 1 ended in a draw against the Stacks. The Academy was delighted to welcome Mary Gardiner and she brought a smile to every ones faces. The club is delighted to support her 100km in 30 days in any way it can. The u7’s welcomed Ballymac while the u8’s and u10’s girls played Na Gaeil. The u9’s are in Go Games action again this week. The u11’s were away to Keel last night while the u13’s were in semi-final action against Glenflesk. Bookings are now been taken for the Annual summer camp running from August 2nd to 5th from 10.30am to 2pm. Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 7,8,12 and 21.

GOLF – MAINE VALLEY GC: The MP Moran Castleisland singles at the Maine Valley GC was won by John O’Sullivan on 45 points followed by Billy O’Sullivan and Shane Flynn. The Division 1,2,3 and 4 prizes went to Pat Ruane, Gary Stynes, John M O’Sullivan and Joe Daly.

QUIGLEY ON EXTENDED 18 MAN SQUAD NAMED BY MARK KEENAN: Mark Keenan has named an 18 man squad for the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Pre-Qualifiers against Austria and Switzerland. Garvey’s Tralee Warriors Eoin Quigley has been named on the squad that will play Austria in Salzburg on June 30th and Switzerland in Dublin on July 3RD. TRALEE BAY SWIMMING CLUB: The second swim of the Summer Series run by the Tralee Bay Swimming club had to be cancelled last week and took place on Wednesday night. We will have the results next week. The club has also announced that it will hold two long swims – the St Brendan’s Swim from Fenit to Derrymore and the Tralee Bay Swim from Blennerville to Fenit. The club would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to sponsor these swims. MEDALS GALORE AT THE MUNSTER U14/U19 ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Munster u14-u19 Athletics championships took place at the MTU Campus in Cork at the weekend. There was a huge Kerry entry with a large number of medals coming to the county and many having achieved entry to the National Juvenile Championships in Tullamore that will run over three weeks in July. Tralee Harriers were amongst the Kerry athletes that won individual and group medals.
