€200,000 assistance scheme for Kerry businesses affected by recent floods
Further to this weeks meeting of Ministers, Minister Norma Foley TD has welcomed a new humanitarian scheme which will provide up to €200,000 for small businesses, community, voluntary and sporting bodies who, through no fault of their own, had been unable to obtain flood insurance and were affected by recent floods in Kerry in June 2023.
This new scheme will provide muchneeded funds to these organisations to carry out essential repairs to their businesses and to return premises
to their pre-flood conditions. The scheme will be administered by the Irish Red Cross and affected organisations will be able to apply through the Irish Red Cross website shortly.
Minister Foley commented “Unfortunately flooding can strike at the most unexpected time, and it can cause huge destruction. The impacts of flooding are particularly severe for those who have been unable to obtain insurance cover, and it is hugely welcome and important that today cabinet
has agreed supports for these organisations in particular. This will ensure these organisations receive the vital support that they need to
carry out repairs and get back to delivering for their communities.”

€2.5m now available to tackle vacancy and dereliction in Kerry
Local Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Education Norma Foley has today welcomed government’s approval €2.5 million to tackle vacancy and dereliction in Kerry.
Minister Foley said that this scheme will help bring vacant units back into use as housing and tackle the visual blight of vacancy on streets. The funding is being allocated to Kerry County Council in Call Three of the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF), a fund to tackle vacancy and dereliction in our towns and cities. It forms part of the Government’s Vacant Homes Action Plan.
Local authorities will acquire vacant/derelict properties which are either not on the market for sale or to which the market has not responded. They will then offer these properties for private sale to individuals who in return will commit to bringing the property into use as a home.
Proceeds from the sale of these properties will ensure a rolling programme of acquisitions and disposals is in place.
Speaking after today’s government meeting, Minister Foley said: “I’m delighted that my Ministerial colleague Minister for Housing
Our national Team, (5 Kerry Women)

They were in last place coming out of day 1 . And fought back on day 2 to steal the gold on the last cast .! FANTASTIC !
Darragh O’Brien has allocated €2.5 million to tackle vacancy and dereliction in Kerry. This is much welcome investment which will increase supply of housing in our communities and also ensure that our streets remain attractive and appealing.
“It’s hugely positive as not only will it remove derelict properties which are eyesores in our towns and villages, it will give people the opportunity to live and participate in their local communities making them more vibrant in the process.”
Minister Foley added: “Government is committed to tackling the issue of
charities like Down Syndrome Kerry and Kerry Hospice Foundation.
Tickets for Classic Delights Killarney are €15 and are available on the door or from Eventbrite. Please come and show your support.
vacant and derelict properties in our communities and increasing housing supply across the country.”
Minister O’Brien issued the call last January for local authorities to outline their proposals for the URDF funding.

THERAPY
Brendan from KP Therapy answers your questions about Muscles, Aches & Pains.
NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY (NMT)
What conditions can be treated effectively with Neuromuscular Therapy?
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) can treat a wide range of conditions from joint pain (e.g. hip pain, shoulder pain), muscular pain (e.g. low back pain, neck pain), postural imbalances, sports injuries, and repetitive strain injuries.
How does Neuromuscular Therapy
differ from other treatments?
While other approaches have their merit, NMT focuses on and works closely with our nervous system to help alleviate pain and restore movement. NMT considers the interconnectedness of the muscular and nervous system to tackle the underlying factors in your injury/condition.
How can I book an appointment with KP Therapy?
Simply, head over to www.kptherapy.ie to schedule an appointment.
What’s involved in a Neuromuscular Therapy Session?
While every NMT session is di erent, a typical NMT session involves an initial assessment followed by hands on treatment using a range of NMT techniques. To conclude the session your therapist will provide some aftercare advice and information on follow-up treatment.
How long will it take to see results?
Many people feel the bene t after only one session. However, for more complex issues, 5-6 sessions are recommended.
Have a good weekend!

LATE SUMMER FLOWER PERENNIALS
Late summer ower perennials, there is an exquisite range of perennials to keep the consistent colour in your garden. It is all too important at the moment, that we don’t give up on our gardens, with this rainy spell. This is the perfect time for planting perennials as the ground is warm and moist, so treat yourself. Perennial planting is most e ective when planted in groups of threes, ves or sevens, grouping pastel shades together, while separately planting the re colours i.e. yellow, burnt orange. The beauty of perennials, you can get cut owers from your garden all summer long, therefore making them very good value for money and they have a long owering periods through-out the summer. Ideal in mixed borders and containers. Full sun to light shade, look out for the bee-friendly sign.
Below is a listing of the most popular perennial plants, suited to the Kerry climate;
Verbena bonariensis & Verbena bonariensis lollipop, which is more suited to small gardens, while Verbena bonariensis can be quite invasive as it self-seeds
Agapanthus Summer Love, in shades of blues & whites, agapanthus enjoys an abundance of rainfall in summer!!!
Echinacea, there are many varieties of echinacea, i.e. sun seekers tequila, echinacea ‘courage’ to name but a few
Scabiosa ‘Flutter Rose Pink’, and varieties of blue, extremely long owering plant with eye catching ower
Leucanthemum ‘Madonna’, also known as Shasta daisy is tough and easy to grow, and owers from early summer to early autumn. It makes an excellent cut ower and is good for attracting pollinating insects
Sunbeckia ophelia, Ballyseedy have brought a large quantity of this plant to put some sunshine back into your world.

IT’S ONLY A JOKE
MY WIFE JUST GOT OUT OF THE BATH AND WAS WRAPPED IN A TOWEL WHEN SHE HEARD A KNOCK
She went down to the door in her towel. She opened it to our neighbour, Bob.
Bob looks at her, and quickly says,
“Look this might be weird but ill give you €800 if you drop the towel right now. She proceeds to drop the towel, exposing herself to Bob. Bob hands here the 800 euros and walks away.
My wife comes upstairs. I asked her, Hey, who was at the door?
“Oh, just our neighbor Bob.” She says. I say, “Oh damn, where’d he go? Does he have the €800 he owes me?”
A RESOURCEFUL WOMAN...
A woman gets into a very busy restaurant around lunch time. She is told the next available table would be free in an hour. She holds her phone to her ear, and with a loud voice says: “Honey, you won’t believe it, but your husband is having lunch with his girlfriend at so-and-so restaurant” Half the diners instantly get up and rush to the exit..
THE TOILET BRUSH
A man walks into a store looking for a toilet brush. The store owner shows him a variety of brushes at various pricepoints. The man thinks for a little while, then buys the cheapest one.
The next day the man is back at the store. “Were you unhappy with your purchase?” asks the shopkeeper. “We have other models that might work better.”
The man agrees and buys a little more expensive one.
The next day the man is back yet again. The shopkeeper, visually puzzled on how a toilet brush can be such a big deal, asks “What’s the matter, didn’t like the new one either?”
“Well” replies the man. “To be honest it was pretty effective. But I gotta say, I prefer toilet paper!”
3 MEN ARE STRANDED ON AN ISLAND.
3 men are stranded on an island and they find a genie bottle. They decide that each person gets one wish. The first man says “I wish I was back home.” then disappeared. The second man says “I wish I was off this island!” and he was gone. The third man say “I wish my friends were back.”
WASHINGTON D.C. WAS IN COMPLETE GRIDLOCK...
As I stewed in traffic wondering what was causing it, a guy comes up and knocks on my window. “What’s it all about?” I ask. “You haven’t heard? President Trump has been kidnapped. It’s all over the news! The ransom note says we either deliver a billion dollars or they are going to cover him with gas and burn him alive. I’m out here taking up a collection to help.” “Oh, God.” I said. “Of course I’m willing to help. Anything. How much have you got so far?” “About six gallons.” He said.
A STRANGER WAS SEATED NEXT TO LITTLE JOHNNY ON THE PLANE
When the stranger turned to the Little Johnny and said, “Let’s talk. I’ve heard that flights will go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.”
Little Johnny, who had just opened his book, closed it slowly, and said to the stranger, “What would you like to discuss?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” said the stranger. “How about nuclear power?”
“OK,” said Little Johnny. “That could be an interesting topic, but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat grass. The same stuff. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?”
“What? I have no idea” said the stranger.
“Well, then,” said Little Johnny, “How is it that you feel qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don’t know squat?”
