Bon Secours announces €25 million investment in Electronic Health Record System

Bon Secours Health System (BSHS), which includes Bon Secours Hospital Tralee, has launched a groundbreaking €25 million clinical transformation project with healthtech firm MEDITECH which is to connect its entire hospital network using one electronic healthcare record (EHR).

The new ‘BonsConnect’ initiative, which will be the largest private hospital EHR system in Ireland, will improve patient safety, enhance clinical care, increase operational efficiency, and revolutionise the healthcare experience for the 300,000 patients Bon Secours treats annually.

The new EHR project is part of a significant investment in state-ofthe-art equipment and technology within a wider €300 million national commitment by Bon Secours Health System as part of its 2025 Strategic Plan.

The BonsConnect project will create 30 new jobs in BSHS now, with a further 30 positions to be created in September. It will cover the full Bon Secours hospital network in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Tralee, and Dublin, and is to be completed by the summer of 2025.

Bon Secours Health System Group Chief Executive, Bill Maher, said:

“Bon Secours Health System continues to be unrivalled in the quality of our service, combining the latest medical technologies and approaches with compassionate and personalised medical care.

BonsConnect is the next step in our digital journey and will change how care is delivered at our five hospitals, including our new hospital in Limerick, due to open in 2025.

This will lead to improved clinical decision-making, more efficient and accurate clinical documentation, and an increased level of access to the right information by the right person at the right time.”

Heritage Open Day at The Forge 20th August 2023

On Sunday 20th August Spa/Fenit Community Council will celebrate Heritage week at Churchill Forge Heritage Centre with a variety of events to entertain all.

The day will start with a Classic Vintage Car Run, departing the Forge in Churchill at 1pm, travelling to Kerry head via Ardfert and Ballyheigue and returning to the Churchill Forge again for Heritage celebrations.

This has become a very popular meet up for car enthusiasts, attending from all over the county.

The annual Dog show is a great attraction, always well attended and you are sure to see an array of impeccable groomed pets paraded by their owners.

Join our resident Blacksmith at Churchill Forge and step back in time and learn the history and practices of life at the Forge. Up to the middle of the 20th century, communities in rural Ireland were largely selfsufficient and the Blacksmith not only shod horses, he made and repaired everything needed on the farm. Displays of traditional skills of bygone times such as ButterMaking, Sugan Chair assembly, Morse code and Thatching. Skills which have been passed from one generation to next.

Entertainment will include traditional music, song, storytelling and dance which will again showcase the amazing talent in our community.

All are invited to celebrate our heritage and enjoy a wonderful day of family entertainment for free. Our museum is open every day and

Minister Foley announces multi-million euro development for Tarbert Comprehensive

Minister for Education and T.D for Kerry, Norma Foley today announces official project approval for a multi-million euro building project for Tarbert Comprehensive. The project brief will deliver a suite of mainstream classrooms, as well as a new science lab and preparation area, a design and communication graphics room, a home economics room and a textiles room. This major development will provide for state of the art investment in inclusive education with a bespoke two classroom base dedicated to the provision of special education supported by three additional dedicated resource rooms. The Department also sanctioned funding to convert the existing home economics room into an extra general purpose classroom. The next step in progressing this project will be to appoint a Design Team to design and tender the project and oversee the construction.

Minister Foley visited Tarbert Comprehensive to deliver the initial project approval.

Minister Foley said: “I am delighted to announce this multi-million-euro building project for the staff and students of Tarbert Comprehensive.

“This significant building project is an endorsement of the excellence in education delivered by the school community in Tarbert Comprehensive on a daily basis. This exciting development will ensure they can continue to meet the needs of their students for years to come while also providing state-of-the-art facilities for the delivery of special education which will serve the Tarbert community and beyond.

“It is fitting that as the school community here in Tarbert prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary, we are able to demonstrate today our intention to continue to support, prepare and indeed honour that legacy by providing modern facilities that will guide them through the

next half a century and beyond.

“I would like to congratulate everyone involved in advancing this

project and I look forward to the work proceeding at pace.”

Brendan from KP Therapy answers your questions about Muscles, Aches & Pains.

WHAT EXACTLY IS NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY (NMT)?

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a specialised form of bodywork therapy that targets speci c trigger points in muscles and aims to alleviate pain, improve circulation, and restore proper movement patterns through a combination of manual techniques and manipulation of the nervous system.

Is Neuromuscular Therapy suitable for chronic pain conditions?

Yes, Neuromuscular Therapy is often recommended for chronic pain conditions like bromyalgia, sciatica, and chronic headaches, as it focuses on addressing underlying muscular imbalances and tension that contribute to ongoing pain.

How does Neuromuscular Therapy

di er from traditional massage?

While traditional massage may focus on relaxation and general tension relief, Neuromuscular Therapy speci cally targets trigger points and muscular imbalances. It uses precise techniques to release tension, improve muscle function, and address the root causes of pain.

Are there any potential side e ects of Neuromuscular Therapy?

Some individuals might experience temporary soreness or discomfort after a session, similar to how muscles might feel after a workout. However, this discomfort typically subsides within a day or two, leaving behind improved muscle function and reduced pain.

How many sessions of Neuromuscular Therapy are usually recommended for noticeable results?

The number of sessions required varies depending on the severity of the condition being treated. For acute issues, individuals might experience relief in just a few sessions. Chronic or complex issues might require a series of 5 to 10 sessions for lasting improvements. Your therapist will provide personalized recommendations based on your situation.

COLONEL SANDERS CALLS UP THE POPE

“Your holiness”, he says. “My business is losing money and I need help. I’ll donate 10 million dollars to the Vatican if you change the Lord’s prayer from ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ to ‘Give us this day our daily chicken’”.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Sanders” the pope replies. “I cannot change the word of God. I wish you good luck with your business.”

A month later, Colonel Sanders calls back, even more desperate. “50 million dollars to the Vatican”, he says, “if you change the Lord’s prayer from ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ to ‘Give us this day our daily chicken’”.

“I’m sorry Mr. Sanders. The word of God is sacred and can’t be changed”, the pope replies. “You’ll have to try something else.”

A month later, Colonel Sanders calls back in pure desperation. “Please, your holiness. My sales are in the hole. I’ll donate 100 million dollars to the Vatican if you change the Lord’s prayer from ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ to ‘Give us this day our daily chicken’”.

The pope sighs and says, “OK, let me get back to you.” He then calls up his bishops and says, “Gentlemen, I have good news and bad news. The good news is, KFC will be donating 100 million dollars to the Vatican.” The bishops erupt in cheers. After quieting down, one asks, “and the bad news?” The pope replies solemnly, “we will be losing the Wonder Bread account”.
