Tourism In County Kerry Shows Promising Recovery Following A Challenging 2021
By Georgie Downes
Fáilte Ireland recently published a report that outlined that spending by tourists in County Kerry had dropped by 46% compared to 2019 figures. Bed nights had also dropped by the same percentage in this comparison Despiteperiod. this, County Kerry comes in at second place on the highest tourist spend list with a respectable revenue of €162 million for 2021 - a year still largely impacted by Covid-19 restrictions, lockdowns and a lowered intent to travel due to health and safety regulations. On a positive note, domestic trips to Kerry in 2021 were over half those in 2019, despite the widespread enforced closure of tourism and hospitality businesses for a considerable portion of 2021. According to the Central Statistics Office Household Travel Survey, there were 602,000 domestic trips to Kerry in 2021, compared to 1,105,000 in 2019. Kerry performed extremely well in terms of the share of visitors to the county and tourism spend, generating €162 million euros in 2021 according to estimates on spend by Fáilte Ireland. This is compared to a spend of €299 million in 2019. Visitors stayed an average of 3.8 nights in the county, an impressive result demonstrating the value of a sustained year-long campaign to communicate the variety of experiences made available to visitors by the Kerry Tourism Industry Federation.
As if there weren’t enough reasons to love this town, now there’s yet another. Tralee has been selected to take part in a national pilot scheme aimed at helping more people with autism into the workforce. Tralee was one of eleven Irish towns designated as "autismfriend" in 2019 following the success of Garvey’s SuperValu’s ‘autism friendly evenings’ held regularly at their Tralee outlet since April 2017. Now organisations AsIam and Specialisterne Ireland have come together to create the Autism Employment Tralee project, which hosted an information event in Tralee on Tuesday, so businesses could learn how to better support autistic employees and improve the diversity of their hiring processes.
The autistic community has an 85% unemployment or underemployment rate, a statistic believed to reflect society’s misconceptions about the condition. This new project seeks to act as an intermediary between companies with job vacancies in Tralee and surrounding areas and the overlooked talent-pool of skilled contenders who are autistic. Operations Manager with Specialisterne Ireland, Noreen Murphy, thinks there’s a fear by many employers around hiring a person with autism. The project aims to act as an intermediary between the many businesses with job vacancies in Tralee and surrounding areas, and the untapped talent pool of skilled candidates who are autistic. “We need to challenge this perception that disability is ‘other’ or that recruitment of an individual with autism is tokenistic because a recent study found that 1 in 7 people in Ireland has a disability of some sort so by seeing someone as ‘other’ you’re not seeing their huge potential. By opening up a conversation regarding accommodations, reasonableitlevels the playing field for absolutely everyone in an organisation to communicate their needs.”

I have done a lot of research on collagen drinks and Skinade seems to be the number one collagen drink on the market. I was told that CHRC is the only stockist in Kerry. Is it worth the hype around it? Rose. Hi Rose, in my opinion it is indeed, if you are in the market for radiant and healthier looking skin. Skinade is a multi-award winning collagen drink supplement that supports the skin all over your body. It contains collagen peptides, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, lysine and omega 3&6. It works from the inside out to rebuild your collagen matrix below the skin surface. It increases skin hydration and radiance and increases skin suppleness, while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As we age, we loose collagen at the rate of 1.5% per year from our early twenties. This loss results in wrinkles, fine lines, dry, blemished and thinning skin.
Collagen is a critical part in the structure of the dermis and gives our skin its firmness and plumpness. Skinade comes in a 150ml bottle which you take daily and it is a peachy and mangosteen flavour.

Gillian is a seven-year-old girl who cannot sit in school. She continually gets up, gets distracted, flies with thoughts, and doesn't follow lessons. Her teachers worry about her, punish her, scold her, reward the few times that she is attentive, but nothing. Gillian does not know how to sit and cannot be attentive. When she comes home, her mother punishes her too. So not only does Gillian have bad grades and punishment at school, but she also suffers from them at home. One day, Gillian's mother is called to school. The lady, sad as someone waiting for bad news, takes her hand and goes to the interview room. The teachers speak of illness, of an obvious disorder. Maybe it's hyperactivity or maybe she needs a medication. During the interview an old teacher arrives who knows the little girl. He asks all the adults, mother and colleagues, to follow him into an adjoining room from where she can still be seen. As he leaves, he tells Gillian that they will be back soon and turns on an old radio with Asmusic.the girl is alone in the room, she immediately gets up and begins to move up and down chasing the music in the air with her feet and her heart. The teacher smiles as the colleagues and the mother look at him between confusion and compassion, as is often done with the old. So he says: "See? Gillian is not sick, Gillian is a dancer!" He recommends that her mother take her to a dance class and that her colleagues make her dance from time to

A MAN WENT TO THE POLICE STATION...
The dog is licking itself. One man says to the other, “I wish I could do that!” He responds “he’ll bite you.”
ONE DAY A MAN HEARS THAT A DISTANT UNCLE PASSED AWAY
A VERY MATERIALISTICRICH, MAN IS SITTING AND THINKING. He has many luxurious things - everything inside and out, huge mansion, massive watch collection, extensive antique display, and most importantly, a gallery of luxury cars. He, in high spirits, decides to add to his car collection and buys a brand new Lamborghini Huracan. Then, he spends the next 2 hours driving around, showing off his car, and waving to pedestrians. Nearing the end of his day, he parks in a restaurant parking lot and gets out but suddenly another car slides into the space next to him and rips the door clean off! The man, infuriated, yells in anger and whips out his phone and dials 911. He yells at the dispatcher saying, “This man just ripped the door clean off my new Lambo! I demand you send an officer! Arrest him! Shoot him! The dispatcher replies, “sir, um, this kind of issue doesn’t deserve a 911 call—” “No! I paid very good money for this car and I demand you send an officer at this instant!” “Alright sir, he’s on his way.” When the officer arrives, the rich man is already all up in the officers face, exclaiming how this ignorant man destroyed his new car. The officer yells back, “You disgust me! Your materialistic traits have kept you from realizing that not only did the door get torn off the car, but so did your arm!” The man looks down at his arm and exclaims, “Oh no, my Rolex!!”

He’s a little sad, but only a little, for they barely knew each other. Then, a few days later, a package arrives. It contains his inheritance from the estate: A violin and a painting. He has no idea what to do with them. After pondering the matter, he takes them to an appraiser. Not too long later the appraiser calls him: “I’ve finished my analysis, and I’ve got some good news. There’s no doubt at all that what you have is a genuine Van Gogh and a genuine Stradivarius.” The man is ecstatic: “I can sell these for millions!” The appraiser says “Well, you can sell them, and they’ll fetch some money for their novelty value. But not millions. You see, the truth is, Stradivarius wasn’t much of a painter... and Van Gogh made lousy violins.”

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS ON THE BIKE: Like in the football above a County Championship medal in your chosen sport is one to cherish. This year’s Cycling County Championships were hosted by the Currow CC and took place on the Knocknagoshel circuit that was used for the Kerry Group Ras Mumhan Stage 4. Killarney CC’s Conor Kissane retained the title he won in 2020, when the Championships were last held. It was a good night for Tralee Manor West as Vinny O’Leary and Joe Roche were first and third in the A3 race and John Roche from the same club was crowned the A4 Inchampion.theMasters races two more titles came to TMW from Cathal Moynihan in the M40’s, where the Chain Gang’s Matt Moloney finished second, and Tony Daly in the M60’s. Take it dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your Heart where your Fa ther sees it, then in his merciful eyes it will become your favour not mine. Amen.
