Culture Night Blazes In To Tralee
This week’s good news is great for everyone because it features a FREE gig for all to enjoy. To celebrate Culture Night 2022, the Arts Council, supported by Kerry County Council in association with Shannon star Entertainment, are presenting an Autumn Equinox concert with all manner of delights including Druids, DJs, a fire ritual and music from top Kerry artists and bands. Beloved local group Oracle will take to the stage first, warming up the crowds with their expertly executed traditional sound followed by Killarney band The Rising and finishing off with music from young Tralee rockers Aftershock. The night will culminate in a spectacular Awaken Mabon Fire Show (no idea but can’t wait to find out) with no less than three fire performers, a Funky DJ on his Chariot, a Fire Dragon and two big Goth Heads bringing the night to sizzling finish just before the clock strikes midnight. I’m exhausted just writing about it.

Under this round of CLÁR funding, sports clubs, schools and community groups will receive grants of up to €50,000 to develop a range of projects that will benefit people of all ages. Lee Strand and Kerry Garda launched the 25th year of the Lee Strand Kerry Garda Youth Achievement Awards on Saturday in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel in Tralee. The awards are held for youths between the ages of thirteen and twenty-one years and recognise the great contribution young people have made and continue to make to their communities in Kerry. The awards will be presented at a celebratory dinner awards ceremony in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Tralee on Friday, September 30th,

Tralee Chamber Alliance kicked off its Autumn series of ‘Breakfast Briefings’ with a powerful presentation from Paralympians Madie WilsonWalker and Jordan Lee and the announcement of two new strategic partners to a capacity crowd at The Rose Hotel this Madiemorning.Wilson-Walker and Jordan Lee, two Paralympians based in Kerry, were the speakers for the Resilience themed morning. Madie gave a powerful talk and presentation on her experiences as a world-class athlete and how she strives for success in everything she does. Madie commented “When I didn’t make the cut, I accepted I didn’t jump high enough. I wasn’t good enough…this time. But I knew I would keep trying and go again. I knew I would succeed - never say can’t”

On Saturday (September 17th) the Munster TT Championships doubling up as the final round of the National TT Series will take place on the main Tralee/ Farranfore road opposite event HQ –the John Mitchels grounds, with the underage riders racing over 9km and the seniors over 25km. The first rider is away around 10.01 with the seniors starting at 10.30am and the prize-giving directly after the results are verified.
The u12 Red Team drew 2-2 with Killorglin in the Slattery’s Carpets and Blinds 12’s Premier thanks to goals from Conor Ryan and Eddie Carmody. In other games the 13 Premier side went down to Mastergeeha 5-3, the 14’s defeated Killarney Celtic 3-1 and the 15’s Premier Boys narrowly lost out to Killorglin 3-2. Girls Training: The club is looking for girls born in 2011 and 2012 who wish to join the club. Please come along to training on Wednesdays at 6.30pm with the first game set for September 24th . The Senior B’s defeated Listowel Celtic B but the A’s lost to League champions Killarney Celtic. Well done to Francis O’Brien who received his Top Scorer Award having hit 22 goals last season and to Saoirse Kerins who is finishing up after 8 years playing with the club but will still be involved with the club.

The seniors got their County Senior Championship off to the perfect start with a 0-14 to 1-08 point win over Na Gaeil. Next up is West Kerry at home this Saturday (17th) at 6pm.
The u7 boys and girls were lucky to be able to move indoor but will be back outdoors this weekend. The u8/u10 girls will host Kerins O’Rahillys this Sunday. The u12 Girls were big winners over Na Gaeil. The u9 boy’s game against Ballymac will now take place this Sunday. The u14 Girls went down to Finuge and also lost narrowly to Churchill who play 2 Divisions higher in the League.
The Senior men are waiting for a date for the Town League final against Rahillys while the Juniors defeated Spa to set up a final against Castleisland.
The club has also organised a clothes bank with the St Vincent de Paul and a boot collection at the club.

The underage season is drawing to a close with the various ages still training and playing in some competitions. In the u7’s Cian Slade and Conor Long were the Players of the Week. The u8 Camogie team enjoyed their trip to take on Killarney despite the weather while the u14 Boys defeated Lixnaw 5-14 to 2-08 in the North Kerry B InChampionship.Juniorhurling it ended St Brendan’s C 1-15 to Tralee Parnell’s B’s 1-11.

Staying with basketball and Tralee Magic are hosting an under 14’s Girls Invitational Tournament this Saturday in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland. The event takes place in the Kerry Sports Academy with St Brendan’s, St Mary’s, Killarney Cougars, Limerick Celtics, Ballincollig, Glanmire and Moycullen joining the host. Last weekend the u18 Girls took part in the Limerick Celtic’s tournament which was their first real action of the new season. They lost out in the quarter finals to Liffey Celtics 43-30. While a number of players were missing those who took part put in a great effort which will stand to them for the new season.
TRALEE ROWING CLUB NEWS: Paula Moloney, Jim Breen and James Morris represented the club at the 2022 World Rowing Masters Regatta in France last week. All three put is big performances in a variety of races. It was a great effort by all three and great to see the Tralee Rowing Club on the world stage. Garvey’s Tralee Warriors and their fans will always remember Saturday April 2nd 2022 as the day they wrapped up the Double. But for John Dowling and his coaching staff that’s all history now as they get ready for the new season and the job of blending in the new players with those from last year is well underway. The Warriors ethos since they returned to the top level has always been to nurture young talent and this season Aivaras Uosis (from Tralee Magic BC) and Jack Tobin (from St Brendan’s BC) will join the squad.
The club’s Social will take place in the Rose Hotel on Saturday October 8th from 7pm with tickets priced at e65.
In the Senior Ladies Round 4 Junior B Championship the club’s side defeated Dingle 4-10 to 2-07and will play Annascaul/Castlegregory this Sunday.

The Kerry 19’s are at home to table toppers Cobh Ramblers in the quarter final of the Enda McGuill 19’s League of Ireland Cup. The game kicks off at 2pm on Sunday in Mounthawk Park.
In the 13’s B put in a great effort to defeat Laune Rangers 4-07 to 1-13 in the Central Region League semi-final. But the A’s went down 2-12 to 2-09 to Na Gaeil in their final. The u15’s won a high scoring narrow win over Milltown – 2-18 to 3-13. The final date has still to be announced.
