Long Queues for KP Therapys “magic Bench” sessions at Horans Health Expo

“With World Mental Health Day coming around in less than a two weeks; the 10th of October, and the Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Festival just around the Corner, Horans Healthstores got the fortnight off to a flying start. Alongside talks from the likes of nutritional expert Patrick Holford and Dr Marilyn Glenvillle, KP Therapy were on hand showcasing Neuromuscular Therapy to the attendees at the Rose Hotel, with

over 100 attendees presenting to KP Therapy with everything from back pain to brain fog over the two days. Each attendee received a 15 minute consultation where after a simple assessment they received a short neuromuscular intervention through manual and movement therapy.

The weekend was a great success but the best part was showing people that it doesn’t always take a lot to feel relief. A typical session in

KP Therapy in the Brandon Hotel is 50 minutes so while 15 minutes is challenging our team of experience therapists really enjoyed the opportunity to get out of the clinic and meet so many new people.

During Kerry’s Mental Health & Wellbeing festival KP Therapy will be running morning complimentary Pilates classes and evening consultations and more information is available on the festival website and activities brochure.

His winning essay, “Tales of the Soldiers in Tralee during the War of Independence,” earned him the top prize in the annual competition hosted by the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society, Kerry County Museum, Kerry County Council, Tralee Education Centre, and the Kerry branch of the History Teachers’ Association.

Rory also won the Senior Category,

Relaunch of Tralee Community Allotment Project

“To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget ourselves” Ghandi

The Tralee Community Allotment

Project relaunched on September 30th with a fantastic turnout from community, voluntary, and statutory sector representatives. Originally launched by Tralee Town Council in 2010, the project addresses the growing demand for allotments and fosters positive community change, promoting sustainability, well-being, and education. The initiative began with collaborations between local groups like Transition Town Tralee and Shanakill/Rahoonane Organic Community Garden.

The relaunch ensures that the allotments continue to be hubs for local engagement and eco-friendly practices. Over the years, they have become more than just spaces to grow fruits and vegetables, offering opportunities for education, sustainability, and social connection. expressed their support for the project, emphasizing its role in cultivating stronger communities.

Workshops on food waste reduction, composting, and sustainable living have been key features, helping locals adopt greener lifestyles.

The allotments also provide mental and physical health benefits. Many participants find gardening therapeutic, reducing stress and anxiety. It also fosters pride and accomplishment as individuals witness the fruits of their labor.

Beyond health and environmental benefits, the project strengthens social connections, as community members come together to share skills and knowledge. The addition of a geodesic dome in 2014 has expanded the allotment’s role, offering a venue for educational

workshops, wellness activities, and community events.

Testimonials from users, like Tommy and Imelda, highlight the personal joy and fulfillment gained from working in the allotments. Looking ahead, the project plans further expansions, partnerships, and communal growing spaces, ensuring

its continued role in promoting sustainability, well-being, and social unity in Tralee.

BUDGET

2025

Electorate Bonanza

Overview

Minister Jack Chambers was in the enviable position of having a pre-election budget with substantial surpluses in the public finances and good economic growth in advance of a general election due to be announced shortly. He was quick to highlight that “his government, through successive budgets, has supported the individuals, families and businesses who have played an integral part in ensuring our economy is in such a strong position today” There is no doubt the Budget will benefit most individuals but there appears to be very little to get excited about from a Kerry business perspective. No major change to supports to the retail, hospitality or SME sector, and a farming sector which was largely ignored. The increased minimum wage while understandable, will be a major burden for these SME businesses to carry.

Summary Main Points

The main discussion points in the budget were as follows:

• Minimum wage increased by 80c to €13.50 per hour

• Increased Income tax bands and credits

• USC Rate reduction

• Packet of 20 cigarettes to rise by €1 to €18.05

• Vaping tax to be introduced in mid-2025

• Increase in Inheritance Tax thresholds

• Standard rate band increased by €2,000 to €44,000

• Single person child carer credit increased by €150

• Incapacitated child tax credit increased by €300 to €3,800

• USC 4% rate reduced to 3% for income between €27,372 to €70,044.

Social Protection

• Minimum wage increased by €0.80 to €13.50 per hour

• Weekly welfare payments increased by €12 per week

• Domiciliary Care Allowance increased by €20 per month

• Once off December payment of €400 to recipients of Carers Support Grant, Disability Allowance, Blind Pension, Invalidity Pension & Domiciliary Care Allowance

• Two Double child benefit payments before Christmas

• New-born Baby Grant €280

Business Reaction

‘To see a future for farming in rural Ireland, we share this modest ambition with the other farming organisations, itʼs a pity that such a sentiment is not present in the halls of Leinster Houseʼ

- Elaine Houlihan Macra President

“While todayʼs budget announcement featured several positive changes to the business tax landscape including an expansion of the R&D tax credit and extensions to certain investor reliefs, measures of this nature, although welcome, will arguably do little to mitigate the everyday overheads facing many small businesses”

- Cróna Clohisey Chartered Accountants Ireland

“Of course the tax credit is welcome as it will put money back in studentsʼ pockets but in terms of long-term measures to fix the accommodation crisis, it doesnʼt go far enough.”
