Ethan Kos pens deal to keep him at Kerry FC for 2024 Kerry Football Club is thrilled to announce the contract extension of

21-year-old center-back, Ethan Kos, who will continue to be a part of the Mounthawk Park team until the end of the next season in 2024. Ethan Kos, originally from California, made the transition to Kerry during the summer transfer window after completing his studies at UCD. He arrived in Ireland in 2019 and gained experience playing in the Leinster Senior League, FAI Intermediate Cup, and the Colleges and Universities Football League (CUFL) while with UCD. Prior to his Irish venture, Kos honed his skills with Strikers FC and Pateadores in Huntington Beach, California. His coaches from the U.S. moved on to Culture FC, a fact that fills Kos with pride. He also briefly played in Sweden before dedicating this phase of his career to the League of Ireland’s new entrants, Kerry FC. Since joining Kerry FC in July, Kos has been an integral part of the defense, featuring in 15 out of 17 matches and accumulating over 1200 minutes of playing time in the team’s green and gold colors. He is expected to continue as a regular presence in Billy Dennehy’s lineup for the 2024 campaign. Ethan Kos expressed his gratitude and excitement for the future, acknowledging the special nature of the club and the tremendous support from the fans. He highlighted his personal development during this brief period with Kerry FC and looks forward to the club’s future achievements. First Team Manager, Billy Dennehy, welcomed Kos’s extension, emphasizing the player’s determination and potential. He recognized Kos’s growth during the previous season and is eager to see him return with renewed dedication for an even better 2024 season. Dennehy believes that Kos’s personality and abilities make him a valuable addition to the squad and the club as a whole.

Michael O’Connor

Keep your Business in Tralee and keep Tralee in Business!

Keeping you, your staff and your business safe.

Michael from Nexgen Cyber answers your queries in helping keep your business (and you!) secure online

This weeks topic is ; MFA (also known as 2FA) ...Multi - Factor Authentication

Question: I have heard about Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) and 2FA but I don’t really know what it means and how to use it to secure my online accounts. Michael says: "Imagine having a door with not one, but two locks. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is the digital equivalent of this security upgrade. By requiring multiple forms of verification, such as a password and a fingerprint scan or a one-time code sent to your smartphone, MFA adds a robust layer of protection to your online accounts. Even if a cybercriminal manages to crack your password, they won’t get past this second barrier. From your email accounts to your finances, enabling MFA on all your devices is essential. Who wouldn’t want an extra layer of security?"

I will be presenting on my research on the best strategies to improve students learning and how best to adapt teaching methods to enhance learning. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is at the heart of everything we do in teaching and at Kerry College. Principal of Kerry College, Stephen Goulding, said that the award is a recognition of Celia O’Shea’s research project and the emphasis that the college places on UDL: . It is a great honour for a staff member to be shortlisted for a second year running.” The John Kelly Awards 2023 for Universal Design in Further and Higher Education will take place online on 14 November.

Kerry College’s Katelyn secures Radio Kerry placement! Katelyn Galvin, a graduate in Digital Journalism, Podcasting & Radio from Kerry College, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a paid placement with Radio Kerry. This accomplishment is part of the Learning Waves Journalism Graduate Programme, now in its fourth year. The Learning Waves Journalism Graduate Programme, a joint initiative by the independent commercial radio sector, Coimisiún na Meán, and Skillnet Ireland, offers ten students a unique opportunity for a five-month paid placement at a radio station. The program recently won the Best Graduate Development Initiative at the Excellence in Learning Awards. Teresa Hanratty, the Learning Waves Project Manager, highlighted the program’s importance, especially in today’s world where the role of journalists is crucial in providing reliable and trustworthy information. Last year, eight out of ten graduates from the program secured full-time

Coimisiún na Meán’s Media Development Commissioner, Rónán Ó’Domhnaill, emphasized the program’s role in equipping the next generation of journalists with the expertise needed to report on events accurately and ethically. Radio continues to be a vital source of trusted information and engaging content, and this program helps attract new graduates to the medium. The program receives part funding from Coimisiún na Meán’s Sectorial Learning and Development Innovation Scheme, providing financial support to the interns and contributing to their living expenses during their placements. The program selection process involved 15 broadcaster applications and 45 student applications, with successful graduates beginning their placements in September and showcasing their work in February

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER ST. BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL CLUB WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS Our U18s showcased tremendous pride and sportsmanship during the weekend at the Group stage of the Billy Coffey National Cup. The first game against Labanga was an incredible turnaround victory, winning 63-60 despite trailing 5033 going into the final quarter. The second game against Moycullen was a tough battle, resulting in a 70-59 loss.

Keep an eye out for updates on the U16 division 2 North Kerry shield final against Na Gaeil. Our U16 players are attending trials. The second trial is scheduled for Saturday, November 11th at Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard. Best wishes to our players invited to try out for the 2024 KLGFA Minor team. The first trial is set for Sunday, November 12th, with more details to come during the week.

The third game, played against Malahide BC, secured their spot in the semi-finals with a 60-52 win. Unfortunately, they faced a strong Ongar Chasers from Dublin in the semi-final without key player U16 Boys Division 2: St. Brendan’s outperformed St. Colman’s with a commanding victory of 81-39 at Presentation Secondary School Hall in Tralee. The team displayed remarkable teamwork throughout the game. U15 Girls League: St. Brendan’s faced St. Paul’s in a highly anticipated match. The first quarter ended with St. Paul’s ahead by only two points, 7-9.

AUSTIN STACK CLUB: The Austin Stack Club’s juvenile section will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, January 10th at 7 pm in the clubhouse. Under 10 Wrap-up: The club concluded the season in October with in-house tournaments in honor of Bracker O’Regan, The annual John Lynch Tournament featured 16 teams, and the club expressed gratitude for the support of Cara Credit Union. Cnoc an tSeabhaic Highlights: The Mounthawk senior team was set to play Coláiste Chríost in the Corn Uí Mhuirí competition. Congratulations and good luck to the boys from Cnoc a’ tSeabhaic, who were heading to the final of the Corn Uí Shúilleabháin (Kerry Colleges) senior football competition. The Green Update: The Green seniors (U19) faced Skibbereen in the Corn Uí Mhuirí competition. Best of luck to the U17 Green team in their quest for the Dunloe Cup in Kerry. The Green U15s played against Coláiste Bréanainn in the final of the Bro. Taft Cup competition at Fitzgerald Stadium.

The second quarter proved challenging for Brendan’s, as they struggled to convert opportunities. St. Paul’s maintained their lead, ending the first half 7-16. In the second half, Brendan’s increased their intensity, but St. Paul’s maintained their lead. Girls U16 Div 2: St. Brendan’s had their first away game of the season against St. Paul’s. The team maintained their lead throughout the game. The final score was 36-56 in favor of Brendan’s. Our St. Brendan’s U14 Girls faced a strong St. Mary’s team, ultimately coming up short. St. Mary’s proved to be the stronger side on the day. KERINS O’RAHILLYS LGFA’s e-book “The Greatest Gift” emphasizes the love of sports as a priceless gift for girls. This insightful e-book highlights the critical role of parents in making sports accessible for their daughters. “The Greatest Gift” is an excellent winter read to understand the positive impact of sports on young girls’ lives. Our U14 girls are gearing up to face Annascaul / Castlegregory in the division 2 shield final on November 11th. The match kicks off at 2 p.m. in Castlegregory. In case of a draw, extra time will decide the outcome. The losing team will battle Moyvane in the plate final. Best of luck to our team and management. JOHN MITCHELS CLUB NOTES Our enthusiastic U6 and U7 boys and girls took a break last Sunday to celebrate Halloween. Training resumes on Sunday, November 12th, at 11 am sharp. New players are always welcome to join in on the fun and development. U15 Boys - Tralee District Championship: The U15 boys battled Churchill in the final of the Tralee District championship at Connolly Park. Despite the heavy rain, our boys put on a strong performance from the start. They allowed only 3 scores in the first half, leading comfortably at halftime. A Churchill goal early in the second half made things interesting, but our team stuck to their game plan. The defense tightened up, conceding only a few more scores, securing victory with a final score of John Mitchels 1-11, Churchill 2-5. This win marks an excellent conclusion to an outstanding season for the U15s. Kudos to the players and management for their dedication and hard work.

Na Misteallaig Abu! ST PATS GAA NEWS 50 Years of Memories: We’re on a mission to gather old photos, memorabilia from events, matches, programs, newsletters, and more from the last 50 years of our fantastic club. The originals will always remain with the owners. For inquiries or to submit items, you can email pro.stpatricksblennerville. kerry@gaa.ie or contact Sharon at 0879712665, or Irene at 0871233254. We’re in the midst of Week 7 of our Couch to 5k journey. We had a fantastic turnout from all participants last week, and our runners are steadily progressing toward their goal of completing the Park Run 5k on November 25th. There are still four more weeks to join in if you haven’t already. It’s not too late to participate! Our U12/U14 Girls concluded their season with a memorable medal presentation evening at Skelper Quanes Bar on Sunday, November 5th. The highlight of the evening was the surprise visit from one of Kerry’s greatest Senior Ladies players, Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh, who presented the girls with their welldeserved medals. The parents expressed their gratitude to the coaches with flowers, and the coaches congratulated the girls on their North Kerry U14 perpetual Trophy victory. Thanks to all the generous sponsors who contributed to the cost of medals, trophies, and food for the event. This team is going from strength to strength, and we’re excited to see them again next season. Seniors - Tralee/St Brendan’s Senior District Championship: Our seniors are gearing up for a semi-final showdown against Ballymac.

BALLYMACELLIGOTT GAA CLUB WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS - NOV 5, 2023 Ballymac Senior Men: Ballymac defended their Tralee/ St Brendan’s title from 2022 in a remarkable comeback. Captain Vinnie Horan’s leadership and 3-08 points were crucial.

Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

They trailed by 11 points but fought back to win 3-16 to 4-12 against Strand Road. U16 Girls clinched the North Kerry Division Two title with a 3-10 to 0-7 victory over Na Gaeil. Great teamwork and excellent passing movements sealed the win. Ballymac’s U14 Girls won the North Kerry league final, edging Castleisland 3:07 to 2:09. A nail-biting finish saw Ballymac score the last two points to secure the victory. The u13s celebrated their double victory with a medals presentation. Senior Captain Vinnie Horan awarded the medals, acknowledging their support for the senior team. The season concluded with a BBQ and a promising future for the team. TRALEE PARNELLS CLUB UPDATES: In a closely-fought Munster Junior Club Hurling Quarter Final, Tralee Parnells faced The Banner from Clare. Wet and windy weather and heavy ground conditions made it a real slugfest. The Banner won 1-10 to 0-10, but Parnells fought hard despite the challenges. The North Kerry Under 16 ‘A’ Hurling Championship semi-final between Tralee Parnell’s and Crotta O’Neills was abandoned last week but will resume soon. Tralee Parnells’ Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Friday, November 17. Positions within the club’s leadership are available for those interested in getting involved. The club’s physical literacy program continues on Tuesday evenings at CBS Primary School. The program aims to teach fundamental movement skills and is open to both members and non-members. Club coaches Morgan Madden and Diarmuid Brennan are launching a “Ultimate GAA pre-season training program” starting November 14 at CBS The Green. This program will include fitness assessments and is open to both Hurling and Camogie players. If interested, please contact Diarmuid Brennan directly.

READ ABOUT KATIE'S JOURNEY WITH US Hi I’m Katie, I’m 17 years old and I’m a student in QQI level 3 Introductory Skills Training Class in the National Learning Network College in TRALEE. Before I came here I was in mainstream secondary school with an SNA. When I was in Transition year I had to start looking at my future. I found mainstream secondary school really difficult, and knew I wouldn’t have been able for the standard leaving certificate. I decided to explore further and I attended pathway fairs where I discovered the National Learning Network College. The very helpful staff told me and my parents all about the supports the NLN offer, small class sizes, rehabilitation officers, psychologists, learning support teachers, sensory room just to name a few. I attended an introduction week in the NLN College and I absolutely loved it. I felt that I was included and listened to as the college is very inclusive and I knew this would be the perfect fit for me. I realized that I could get the education that I wanted to progress further and do it at my own pace with the supports that I needed… and this is exactly what I’ve done. Since I started in the National Learning Network I’ve changed so much. If I was told 12 months ago that I would have had the confidence to travel up to Dublin & Cork to do private courses to become a qualified dog trainer working with search & rescue dogs, assistance dogs and have my own business, I would not have believed it was possible. I’m also progressing my education privately and begin my Emergency Medical Technician course in September, once I’ve this done I will then progress further into paramedics. All this has been made possible by coming to the National Learning Network College.

NOVENA TO ST. MARTHA O St. Martha, I resort to thee and to thy petition and faith, I offer up to thee this light which I should burn every Tuesday for nine Tuesdays. Comfort me in all my difficulties thro’the great favour thou didst enjoy when our Savour lodged in thy house.l beseech thee to have definite pity in regard to the favour I ask (mention favour). Intercede for my family that we may always be provided for in all our necessities. I ask thee St. Martha to over come the dragon which thou didst cast at thy feet. One Our Father and three Hail Mary’s and a lighted candle every Tuesday and the above prayer made known with the intentions of spreading devotions to St. Martha. This miraculous Saint grants everything before the Tuesdays are ended. No matter how difficult. A.D.

PRAYER TO BLESSED VIRGIN O Most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, faithful vine, splendor of Heaven, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in this my necessity. O Star of the Sea, help and show me herein you are my Mother. O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to secour me, in my necessity (make request). There are none that can withstand your powers. O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Sweet Mother, l place this cause in your hands. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. Amen. POD
