I love how welcoming everyone is at CHRC every time I call for an appointment. Deirdre, my Aesthetic Practitioner, is extremely knowledgeable and is always so friendly. After my initial consultation and skin analysis Deirdre developed a treatment plan specific to my skin’s needs. Throughout every treatment Deirdre always explains what she’s doing at each stage ensuring I’m always aware of what’s happening.

Emma Costello

From the moment we started attending the CHRC in the Bons in Tralee the care has been outstanding. The attention to detail from Nicole, level of care, from Deirdre with the various treatments and just the welcoming atmosphere in the Clinic. It’s so beautiful and such a lovely space to go. Cáit and Emma both had AlumierMD exfoliating skin peel treatments. This includes an exfoliating peel treatment, brightening enhancement followed by prescriptive target serums which reveal a more radiant, soft and luminous skin.

There is truly not enough room at the island of geese. It is a lovely new development. Kerry group and our council deserve sincere thanks and praise. It brings a breath of of fresh air space which we need in our town centre. If the plan was not to start building a newcourthouse at the island of geese until around 2026, then those trading and living in the ashe st area must face many more years of noise and potential loss if business and footfall The new area at the island of geese is ripe for entertainment, professional and amateur. and country markets as the space is so welcoming . Our historic courthouse, along with the kerry protestant hall , if it is not tied up in crazy listed building red tape ,can work in tandem. The ulster bank building is available also if needed. We have been told it is impossible to put in a lift in the courthouse. It has been shown that lifts can be installed on external walls . There has been talk about putting an upmarket restaurant in a revamped courthouse building. What a crazy idea.! We have plenty of free enterprise in the area. Public taxpayer moneys should not be used to compete unfairly against local businesses Ashe st is far easier to control

Tralee’s FREE PARKING details for Christmas!

Pa Daly TD visits Garda Training College

Kerry County Council has announced details of concessions in parking charges over the Christmas period. Each year, the Council provides limited free parking in Tralee, Killarney and Listowel in an effort to encourage people to shop locally and support local businesses in the run up to Christmas.

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Justice, Pa Daly TD, has commented on his visit to the Garda Training College at Templemore. Teachta Daly was visiting as part of a Justice committee delegation. Teachta Daly said: “The college is an impressive facility and the staff are clearly very dedicated and professional. Giving graduates a solid grounding in policing work and the values of An Garda Síochána is their primary focus. Ethics, Human Rights and community safety are interwoven in the over 150 courses in Templemore.

The parking charge concessions apply in Tralee, Listowel, and Killarney from 4th to 31st December inclusive with varying arrangements in each of the towns. In Listowel, there will be free on-street parking subject to a two-hour limit all day every day with free unlimited parking continuing in all off-street car parks throughout the period. In Tralee, there will be free parking in all Council-owned car parks subject to a two-hour limit between 9.30am and 2.00pm each day. In Killarney, free parking, subject to a two-hour limit, will be available between 9.30am and 2pm in the Glebe Car Park, Fair Hill Car Park, and the Upper and Lower New Street Car Parks. A parking charge of just €2 per day will apply in the Rock Road Car Park, High Street Car Park and Lewis Road Car Park.

than the island of geese area on court days and what else it brings to tralee on these days ! Most solicitors have their offices in the ashe st area. There, they can interview their clients in privacy with all their records at hand.

Friday 24th November 2023

“We were given a full tour and an explanation of how training works. The staff were keen to emphasise, contrary to comments by at least one Minister, that the college continued to operate during the pandemic. It was not closed. “The visit brought home the importance of getting Garda trainee numbers back towards pre-pandemic levels. When Commissioner Harris was in front of the Justice Committee earlier, he said 714 trainees should pass through the college for the year 2023. “Sinn Féin will continue to call for continued action in recruitment and retention, more recruitment in our new communities and establishment of a retention taskforce to report back within weeks on challenges faced although we noted that some work is currently taking place. “The college also needs extra facilities to address the backlog in driving courses and also needs a tactical training facility and we have written to the Minister to address these issues.”

Castlemaine Fair Day presents cheque to Kerry Hospice The Castlemaine Events Committee is thrilled to announce that the recent Castlemaine Fair Day in Memory of John O’Donoghue, held in October, successfully raised €15,859.69. This marks a significant contribution, bringing the total funds raised over the past three years to an impressive €75,541.46 for the Kerry Hospice Foundation. The fair, held in Griffin’s Car Park, Castlemaine, was a resounding success, attracting attendees from near and far, thanks to favorable weather. The event, initiated in 2021 in honor of John O’Donoghue, saw a revival of the traditional fair day, celebrating old traditions and customs. Beyond the fair attractions, the day featured family entertainment such as auctions, amusements, stalls, and live music. On November 17th, in Griffin’s Bar and Restaurant

Castlemaine, the proceeds from the 2023 Fair Day were officially presented to the Kerry Hospice Foundation. Family members, close friends, and the Castlemaine Events Committee came together to commend the foundation for its exemplary care and support provided to John and his family during his battle with terminal bowel cancer since May 2019. John O’Donoghue, a well-known figure in Castlemaine Village, was born on January 21st, 1965, coinciding with an old staging of the Castlemaine Fair Day. The committee expressed their gratitude to the public for their generosity in supporting the event in John’s memory, extending special thanks to all those who contributed to the event’s organization and smooth operation. The community spirit

demonstrated in both preparation and clean-up operations was truly remarkable, and the Castlemaine Events Committee is sincerely

A Quicker Adare Bypass completion ... ”Good for Kerry “ says Norma

Education Minister Norma Foley has expressed her satisfaction with the accelerated development of the €150 million Adare bypass road, ensuring its completion in time for the Ryder Cup in 2027. Originally planned as part of the 33km road connecting Limerick city to the port of Foynes, the decision to expedite the Adare bypass construction was made by the cabinet, responding to a proposal from Transport Minister Eamon Ryan. Minister Foley, recognizing the traffic challenges in Adare and the associated negative impacts on the region, welcomed the decision. The Government is allocating approximately €150 million for the 7km bypass, scheduled for

10

Friday 24th November 2023

completion ahead of the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in September 2027, anticipating increased traffic to the Limerick village during the event. The Limerick to Foynes road, including the Adare bypass, received planning permission from An Bord Pleanála in August of the previous year, following settlement of three judicial reviews in the High Court. Minister Ryan highlighted the Adare bypass as a crucial infrastructural project with strategic importance for Limerick and the national road network. The completion is expected to bring significant benefits to Adare, including reduced congestion, noise, improved air quality, enhanced accessibility, safety improvements, and enhancements

to green areas. Emphasizing a bypass-first approach, Minister Ryan stated that the accelerated delivery aimed to finish the project before the Ryder Cup in 2027. Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) will collaborate closely with Limerick City and County Council and other stakeholders to meet this timeline. Minister of State Jack Chambers expressed support for the announcement, recognizing the Adare Bypass as a vital investment in the road network that will benefit residents, visitors, and commuters in the region. He looks forward to the commencement of construction.

Christmas... a great time to get a new pet? Well actually its not! According to Maurice who operates Sera Husky Animal Rescue here in Tralee ..” Is Christmas a good time to get a dog/pet? ...the simple answer is no,most homes are organised chaos and some are unorganised chaos,at this time of year !..So bringing in an animal that needs

undivided attention at one of the most important times of that animals life is definitely not the right thing to do .Please make those wishes known to family members, just on the off chance that Uncle “Jeff” or Auntie “ Jen” might show up( with great intentions mind ) at

your house , with a furry friend on Christmas morning! Did you know that there are close to 4,000 dogs alone in Rescues and Animal pounds throughout Ireland right now in November ! And with every Rescue bursting at the seems, there will be little chance of getting help if you do get a pet that ends up unwanted . The months of January & February are a much better time to adopt or introduce a new pet into your home. Animal Rescues operate through Christmas so why not lose some of those Christmas pounds and head down to your local rescue to walk some dogs, the guys in the Rescues and the pets , would only be delighted to see you ! And here are 2 little guys we would like you to meet ..... Meet ‘ Lucky ‘ the Cat .( we always give our rescue pets a name ) ...we found him last Monday near Ballyconry Cross , Lisselton . He was in poor shape , after been hit by a car ‘lucky’ to be alive in fact , but we are hopeful of a full recovery ! Someone out there may know the owner ...you can call us on 0873512719 And then there’s ‘Dougie’ ...the sad story is that we found this little

Norma announces multi million investment for Pres School, Tralee Minister for Education and Kerry T.D, Norma Foley, has announced multimillion euro funding for Presentation Secondary School in Tralee. The all-girls school can trace its origins back to 1809, when the Presentation Sisters came to Tralee to teach the children of the area. The Department of Education has announced funding for the school to provide for a suite of new facilities including specialist classrooms for music, science, technology, graphics and textiles. Prep rooms, where required, are also included. The funding also provides for the development of a twoclassroom special educational needs base for the school. Education Minister Norma Foley said that the funding would provide Presentation Secondary School with new state-of-the-art facilities to continue its proud tradition of education in Tralee. “This funding

will provide tailored, modern facilities which will ensure that education provision in Presentation Secondary School will continue to thrive and flourish.“This weeks announcement is an endorsement of the excellence in education that is provided every day in the school. I look forward to the project developing at pace.” Minister Foley visited Presentation Secondary School to meet with Mairéad Finucane, the school principal, Brendan Walsh, the chairperson of board of management, and staff and students. Presentation Secondary School will now move to appoint a design team to design and tender the project and oversee the construction. Minister Foley also said that the announcement came in addition to the forthcoming rollout of the free schoolbooks scheme for Junior Cycle students which she secured

funding for in Budget 2024. She said this scheme would benefit over 700,000 students nationwide.“In Kerry, around 16,427 students in primary schools benefited from free schoolbooks and classroom

resources in this school year. Another 6,735 students in Kerry will benefit when the free schoolbooks scheme commences for students in Junior Cycle in September next year,” she said.

Teddy Bear Hospital at MTU On December 2, 2023, Munster Technological University (MTU) will host the Teddy Bear Hospital at the North Campus in Tralee, welcoming hundreds of children and families. This special event, organized by MTU and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), aims to alleviate the stress and anxiety children may feel when visiting a hospital or seeing a doctor. In collaboration with University Hospital Kerry, funds raised during the event will go towards providing play therapy equipment for the hospital’s pediatric ward. The Teddy Bear Hospital experience is designed to familiarize children with medical professionals’ roles and activities, reducing fear and offering insights into healthcare careers. The North Campus, where MTU, RCSI, and Castel Education deliver the International Medical/Pharmacy Commencement Programme (IMCP/IPCP), will host students from various programs, including Nursing, Pharmacy Technician, Health, Sport & Exercise Sciences, and Early Childhood Education and

30

Care. These students will manage 14 stations, guiding children through the process with their teddy bears. The interactive experience involves admitting sick teddy bears to the hospital and exploring stations such as triage, blood analysis, x-ray/ MRI, bandaging, surgery, pharmacy, storytelling, exercise, and nutrition. Using teddy bears as teaching tools, students will explain hospital procedures, introduce healthcare professionals, and provide advice on nutrition and exercise. Fiona O’Flynn, Head of Department for International Medical/Pharmacy Commencement Programmes at MTU, expressed delight in hosting this interactive event. The goal is to help children feel at ease around healthcare professionals, especially those with regular hospital appointments, and potentially spark an interest in healthcare careers. The event will have morning and afternoon sessions, with an entry fee of €5 per child (parents and guardians attend for free). All proceeds will be used to purchase toys and equipment for play therapy

in University Hospital Kerry’s pediatric ward, aiding children in coping with trauma and preparing for medical procedures. More

MOTORING SECTION

The Kia EV9 AIR is contender for 2024 World Car of the Year I’M going to call it now. Kia’s EV9 is going to win many awards from the glossy car mags in the coming months and is a hot contender for 2024 World Car of the Year.It can’t not be.It’s a home run, touchdown, slam dunk kinda car for big families like mine.EV9 is electric, of course. EV means electric vehicle. But there’s no need to worry about range because it’ll do 300 miles at a time. There’s no need to worry about charging because it juices up in a 20-minute tea-and-pee break. The huge slab-shaped battery in the floor

has created a walk-round cabin that’s bigger, more luxurious and more lounge-like than anything we’ve seen from the Koreans before. This sixseat version has captain’s armchairs in the middle that swivel to face the third row.Proper smart that. The standard car has seven seats. Rear-seat passengers have their own air-con controls, charging ports, drink holders and sun roof.Ambient lighting makes the place feel warm and cosy at night. The big-screen dash carries loads of technology. There’s buttons to warm and rub your back.Everything is well thought out. Everything on-point.Some of the cabin materials are sustainable if that’s important to you. As with all electric cars, there’s plenty of poke when you need it — for joining motorways and overtaking. But you’ll spend most of your time humming along like Winnie the Pooh when he’s thinking about something, immune from the noise and the chaos around you. Despite its obvious size, EV9 is easy to place on the road. The steering is nicely weighted. The suspension soaks up bumps and ridges to give a

decently comfortable ride.All-round cameras help you to park like a pro. All-wheel drive versions tow up to 2,500kg. Now we come to the sticky bit. The price ...it starts around £65k stg ( circa €80k in Ireland ) .But it’s also a bargain when you consider Volvo’s EX90 is £96k stg and the first electric Range Rover will be at least double the price of a Kia.And if you dont want to or can’t buy new, just wait for a used EV9 in three years’ time and you’ll be getting a capital B bargain. plus a stellar warranty to boot ! ( Credit Rob Gill , The Irish Sun )

READ ABOUT KATIE'S JOURNEY WITH US Hi I’m Katie, I’m 17 years old and I’m a student in QQI level 3 Introductory Skills Training Class in the National Learning Network College in TRALEE. Before I came here I was in mainstream secondary school with an SNA. When I was in Transition year I had to start looking at my future. I found mainstream secondary school really difficult, and knew I wouldn’t have been able for the standard leaving certificate. I decided to explore further and I attended pathway fairs where I discovered the National Learning Network College. The very helpful staff told me and my parents all about the supports the NLN offer, small class sizes, rehabilitation officers, psychologists, learning support teachers, sensory room just to name a few. I attended an introduction week in the NLN College and I absolutely loved it. I felt that I was included and listened to as the college is very inclusive and I knew this would be the perfect fit for me. I realized that I could get the education that I wanted to progress further and do it at my own pace with the supports that I needed… and this is exactly what I’ve done. Since I started in the National Learning Network I’ve changed so much. If I was told 12 months ago that I would have had the confidence to travel up to Dublin & Cork to do private courses to become a qualified dog trainer working with search & rescue dogs, assistance dogs and have my own business, I would not have believed it was possible. I’m also progressing my education privately and begin my Emergency Medical Technician course in September, once I’ve this done I will then progress further into paramedics. All this has been made possible by coming to the National Learning Network College.
