LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Susan is buying a second-hand car and is wondering what she should look out for when purchasing. The area of purchasing a second-hand car is one area where consumers need to be extra wary. It is really divided into two areas Where you are purchasing from a car dealer and in this area, there is extra protection as the consumer rights apply that the car should be of reasonable quality in the context of the car’s age, the price and the history of the car (including usage, mileage, and previous accidents). It should be fit for purpose and roadworthy. In fact, there is a second of the sale of goods legislation that makes a dealer liable if he allows a car not roadworthy on the road and it causes an accident. The car should also match any descriptions given on it by the dealership in advertising or online e.g., on a website. It would be important to question the seller vigorously about the history of the car. Consumer rights include getting good title to the car so it should not be repossessed from you if subject to prior hire purchase or loan arrangements. In a car dealer situation, one may also have the added bonus of a 6- or 12-month warranty on the car that if there are any issues with it the dealership will sort them out. These need to be checked carefully to see what they will cover i.e., will they cover parts only or parts and labour. If buying from a private seller none of the consumer protections mentioned above prevail except that the car should be roadworthy and if it causes an accident the seller may be liable if they left an unsafe car on the road. Therefore, one must be much more wary in this situation and also if one is to sell one’s car privately to be aware of the liability issues. It is safer to give one’s car to a car dealer to sell as it takes the responsibility off the private seller. It is a good idea to check the car on the car checker websites – there are a number of them online where one can check using the car registration number and get the history of the car. The national consumer website has a handy car buyers’ checklist that one can use when checking out cars. See https://www.ccpc.ie/ consumers/cars/car-checks#questions Legal Quip: Confucius say, man who runs behind car will get exhausted, but man who runs in front of car will get tired. Tralee Tidy Towns and Cara Credit Union making Tralee a great place to live, work & visit It’s no surprise that Cara Credit Union have teamed up with the Tralee Tidy Towns committee. Given that credit unions are at the heart of local communities it is a natural fit to see them lend support to the fantastic work done by the local Tralee Tidy Towns group. Speaking to Pa Laide, CEO of Cara Credit Union, he said; ““Every day we see ordinary people going to extraordinary lengths to make our communities better places to live. As a local not-for-profit financial co-operative, we feel it is our responsibility to lend support to organisations such as Tralee Tidy Towns. However, to enable us to support such causes, we need support from our members. To this end, we ask members to consider Cara Credit Union if they need a loan. Lending is our main source of income. Therefore, the more we earn the more we can give back to our members and our local community.” Friday 17th September 2021
Joe Moynihan from the Tidy Towns committee continued ; “ This year we have worked tirelessly to ensure Tralee is looking great for the many, many people who had a staycation in Tralee this year as well as the many locals who came out in force to support their local town during the pandemic. We would like to thank Cara Credit Union for coming on board to lend their support at a time when we need it most.” We see the positive impact that Tidy Towns volunteers have first-hand everyday. If you would like to be part of Tralee Tidy Towns check out their facebook page at Tralee Tidy Towns. If you would like to support your local credit union visit their website www. caracreditunion.ie or call 066 712 2373 Pictured outside the Cara Credit Union Tralee were Roisin Smullen Cara Credit

Hello everyone!
& welcome back to 'Create with Rebecca', a page where I will be talking ALL things social media! (yaaaaaaay!). This column will be especially helpful for those in business looking to navigate the world of social media for their business. I will be simplifying EVERYTHING as well as giving my top tips. Oh, by the way... I can edit videos, advise you on social media & create a new vibe for your brand! (Aka video editor, social media consultant & graphic designer) - so I know what I'm talking about!
BEING 'PROFESSIONAL' ON SOCIAL MEDIA I have noticed something recently, and that is that the idea of being 'professional' online can tend to be a bit old school when in comes to creating content online. Especially when it comes to TikTok. It's 2021, people connect with people, not professionalism. I'm going to go as far as saying the old school idea of being professional online can actually cause a disconnect with your followers. When it comes to TikTok, the platform is based on trends, personality and humour, it's about letting people in to your business in a more personal way and optimizing trends so that they are relevant to whatever you're doing. This will include using trending sounds that may seem 'unprofessional' in terms of old school business. When you try to curate a 'perfectly professional' persona online, you can actually do more harm to your online presence than good, it's all about BRAND and PEOPLE in 2021, as opposed to doing the thing that is most professional. You gain respect by authenticity and transparency, by having a personality and showing that through your socials. Of course, there are still certain things you can implement for people to respect you as a business, but to be honest, people will ALWAYS have an opinion of you regardless of what you do. So you might as well do what is authentic to you and your brand, as opposed to trying to uphold a professional persona.
For more information on what I do or if you are interested in any of my social media service: I offer 1:1 consultation calls, video editing, graphic design and more, you can follow @create.socialmedia on instagram or email me: createtralee@gmail.com to book a call!

Free events at Kerry Mental Health & Wellbeing Fest: 9-16 October 2021 THE programme of FREE events for the 2021 Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest has been launched with a range of activities to suit all ages from 9th to 16th October. The key focus of the #KerryMHWFest is to promote mental health and wellbeing in Kerry through a fun and interactive programme of online and in-person events. The Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest aims to create awareness of, and schedule events that empower people to engage with, the Five Ways to Wellbeing – Connect | Give | Take Notice | Keep Learning | Be Active. The Mayor of Kerry, Cllr Jimmy Moloney, who launched this year’s Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest, said: “The past 18 months, more than any other time in our lives, has taught us how we need to mind our mental health. During this year’s Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest, I’m encouraging everyone in the county to take time out
to learn, talk, reflect, and engage with others around the topic of mental health and wellbeing. We should also encourage anyone with mental health issues to reach out and avail of supports and services available.” Organised by an interagency steering group, the Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest is held annually to highlight World Mental Health Day on 10th October. The Chair of the Steering Committee and Resource Officer for Suicide Prevention in Kerry, Donagh Hennebry, said: “We are grateful to the many people who have put their names forward to host a range of fun and interactive events that will promote mental health and wellbeing in Kerry. The emphasis on community and the role that we can all play in ensuring our own mental health, and that of our friends and family, is strong. Many events are online again
this year due to Covid, but this gives us an opportunity to widen our reach to welcome festival-goers to enjoy a virtual experience from afar.” The organising committee is a collaboration between Connecting for Life Kerry, Healthy Kerry, Kerry County Council, the HSE, NEWKD, SKDP, Kerry Mental Health Association, Jigsaw Kerry, Munster Technological University/Kerry, and Kerry
Volunteer Centre. All events are free, registration is essential and can be done by contacting the organiser of that event directly or use the registration links provided in the brochure. Visit HealthyKerry.ie to see the full event schedule or for general enquiries about the Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest, please email kerrymhwfest20@gmail.com.

KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!
AND NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS... from The Tralee Advertiser Team and Tralee Chamber Alliance
Is it true? Is fun back?
By Georgina Downes @ Tralee Chamber Alliance Kids, listen up! There’s light at the end of those crazymaze tunnels. After several false starts, our favourite indoor adventure arenas are finally set to re-open and, all credit to guidelines and safety restrictions, we think it’s about time! From Wednesday September 22nd, Bowling Buddies is back in action featuring some major upgrades and a banging new activity room upstairs for kid’s parties. Games to keep the party going include table tennis, basketball machine, fuzzball, air hocky and pool. Party Packages to suit everyone. Then downstairs, there is a brand-new line-up of flashing arcade games, racing bikes and cars, all ready to hop on board and take for a test drive, so start saving up those coins now if you want to try out everything. “We are over the moon
about reopening. All the new machines have just been sitting here for months, waiting to be played,” Gavin Lythgoe, director at Bowling Buddies said. “We’ve only traded for 11 days since last summer so this week is a really exciting time for us. It will be great to see how the kids get on with the new amusements and fantastic to see them being played at last.” This is no ordinary bowling alley either; it is a state-ofthe-art fun-feast featuring ten bowling lanes and a chic, revamped café. Plus, there is the amazing, out-of-this-world SKYWALKER EXPERIENCE where youngsters can get their spiderman vibe on as they swing like daddy-longlegs across the ceiling and walls. Welcome back Bowling Buddies. Opening hours are Wed – Sun, 4pm to 10pm during term time and 7 days a week during holidays. The
booking line is open 24/7. See their FB page for more details. Equally as exciting, we have the Playdium set to reopen its doors on Friday September 24th. Anyone in Tralee with small kids will understand the arm-flapping, leg-hopping sheer delight a trip to the Playdium generates, because this is Ireland’s largest and most enjoyable soft-play area for everyone under the age of 12! FYI, visits must be pre-booked and prepaid via the Playdium website: www.theplaydium.ie They are currently accepting a limited number of birthday party bookings so enquiries to bookings@theplaydium.ie. Small and intimate; we’ll take that. We’re just happy the Playdium is back!

Minster Foley welcomes over €14 million in payments for Kerry farmers Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley has welcomed the announcement of €14,822,893 in payments for over 6000 Kerry farmers under the Areas of Natural Constraint (ANC) scheme. The ANC scheme provides payments to people farming land in designated disadvantaged areas. It aims to support the continuation of farming in these area by compensating farmers for the additional costs involved in farming such land. In total payments worth just under €182 million are issuing this week to almost 85,000 farmers nationwide.
Minister Foley said: “I welcome this funding which will provide a timely boost to for farmers across Kerry. The ANC scheme provides crucial supports to the Kerry farming industry and the first tranche of payments to be made under the scheme and will be issued to eligible applicants this week.” Regular pay runs will continue in the coming weeks to ensure cleared cases are processed for payment as quickly as possible. Nutrition is Key for the upcoming Samaritans / Hospice Charity Cycle Sat Oct 9th says Michael Mannix , a keen cyclist and one of the organisers of this popular event . "Nutrition plays a huge role in cycling performance. It influences how much energy you have to perform on the bike and how you recover .It is important for you to be at your best in the upcoming Samaritans /Hospice Charity Cycle on SAT Oct 9th. Breakfast kick starts your day, and will provide fuel for your ride.By the time morning comes it may have been 12 hours since your last meal, and overnight your body used up fuel to repair your muscles and supply glucose to your brain. The aim now is to include slow-release carbohydrate, a protein source and some fruit to increase your day’s nutrient profile.Easy on Fibre and check your urine colour for maximum hydration level. Even if you are in a rush there are plenty of quick options that can be eaten . Suggstions: • Porridge made with milk or soya with fresh berries, banana and mixed seeds • Scrambled egg on wholegrain toast with grilled tomato • Smoothie made with
banana, nut butter, milk and oats
If you are riding for more than an hour(as you will on Oct 9th) you will need to take on extra carbohydrates. The easiest way to do this is with sports drinks, bars and gels. A good sports drink should provide nutrition along with hydration. Nutritious foods such as bananas and dried fruit are also high in carbohydrate and should be preferably used. (Remember that there is a food stop where you can top up on water, bars and bananas) Your aim is to take on 60g/90G of carbohydrate for every hour of exercise. It is important to not eat more than you need, as your stomach will struggle to digest it whilst cycling which can lead to nausea or stomach pain.Keep sipping your liquids as dehydration will severely impact on your performance. 3 examples of 60g of carbs • 1 x banana, 1 x 500ml energy drink, 1 x cereal bar • 6 x dried dates, 1 x 500ml energy drink • 6 x jelly babies, 2 x fig rolls At the finish you need to replace the energy expended so that your stored muscle
glycogen is re-stocked and providing adequate protein for muscle repair. Your main meal needs to contain 20-40g of protein and around 6080gram of carbohydrate. In the immediate after an event a chicken, tuna sandwich with chocolate milk is perfect to kick start your recovery and maximise uptake of both Protein and CHOS. However on the 9th Our BBQ will cover your refuelling requirements Add a mixture of different coloured vegetables to your main meal, both to increase your carbohydrate intake and also to ensure you get a wide range of nutrients and fibre.. SUGGESTIONS • Baked potato with tuna
• •
and salad/water/MILK Chicken breast/PASTA potatoes/rice and vegetables/Water/MILK Smoothie with peanut butter, yoghurt, banana, seeds and fresh berries./ MILK
Event update ...places are filling up nicely with an even takeup between the 75km route and the 125km Conor Pass Route . Support is from all over Kerry and even cycling clubs farther afield as this is one of the first 'proper' cycles since lockdown .Registration is open online and costs just 40EU plus booking fee ... www.eventbrite. ie/e/155658702369

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2021
THE PERFECT PIZZA DOUGH
Six ingredients a little bit of patience are all you need to craft this perfect pizza dough; light, flavorful, and ready for all your favorite toppings. Why in the world would you let dough rise for the better part of a day in the refrigerator when it will double in volume in just a couple of hours at room temp? Because when fermentation happens at room temperature, the dough cannot possibly absorb the flavors being created, nor can the gluten structures become pliable but strong. All you get with a warm rise is gas, which is almost completely lost during the shaping. A long, cool rise is crucial to a tasty, chewy yet crisp dough. Yes, it takes time, but your patience will be rewarded.
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • •
2 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon salt 1 tablespoon pure olive oil 3/4 cup warm water 2 cups bread flour, plus 1/2 cup for rolling 1 teaspoon instant yeast 2 teaspoons olive oil, plus additional for brushing
METHOD • • • • • • • • •
• •
Place the sugar, salt, olive oil, water, 1 cup of flour, yeast, and remaining cup of flour into the work bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Start the mixer on low and mix until the dough just comes together, forming a ball. Coat the hook attachment with cooking spray. Attach the hook to the mixer and knead for 15 minutes on medium speed. Tear off a small piece of dough and flatten into a disc. Stretch the dough until thin. Hold it up to the light and look to see if the baker's windowpane, or taut membrane, has formed. If the dough tears before it forms, knead the dough for an additional 5 to 10 minutes. Roll the pizza dough into a smooth ball on the countertop. Place into a stainless steel or glass bowl. Add 2 teaspoons of olive oil to the bowl and toss to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 18 to 24 hours. Place a pizza stone or tile onto the bottom of a cold oven and turn the oven to its highest temperature, about 500ºF. If the oven has coils on the oven floor, place the tile onto the lowest rack of the oven. Split the pizza dough into 2 equal parts using a knife or a dough scraper. Flatten into a disk on the countertop and then fold the dough into a ball. Barely wet hands with water and rub them onto the countertop to dampen the surface. Roll the dough on the surface until it tightens. Cover one ball with a tea towel and rest for 30 minutes. Repeat the steps with the other piece of dough. If not baking the remaining pizza immediately, spray the inside of a ziptop bag with cooking spray and place the dough ball into the bag. Refrigerate for up to 6 days. Sprinkle the flour onto the peel and place the dough onto the peel. Using your hands, form a lip around the edges of the pizza. Stretch the dough into a round disc, rotating after each stretch. Toss the dough in the air, if you dare. Shake the pizza on the peel to be sure that it will slide onto the pizza stone or tile. Dress and bake the pizza immediately for a crisp crust or rest the dough for 30 minutes if you want a chewy texture. Brush the rim of the pizza with olive oil. Spread the pizza sauce evenly onto the pizza. Sprinkle the herbs onto the pizza and top with the cheese. Slide the pizza onto the tile and bake for 7 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown. Rest for 3 minutes before slicing.

Rental income You can extract profits by renting a premises to the company. If the rent is at a commercial level, your company gets a tax deduction, and you are taxed on the rent, reducing overall tax on income. Pension Benefits A company can fund your personal pension scheme, generally the maximum value a fund can have is €2m. Income extraction Employ your spouse and children. Each can have their own tax allowances and PRSI limits. If €100,000 was earned by a company and split among four adult employees, the total tax bill would be lower than the income tax charged on one person with married rate bands. Pay down debt faster You need to earn €2m gross to leave €1m after tax to pay off a debt. If a company borrows €1m it only needs to earn €1,142,857 (€1m / 0.875) to leave €1m after 12.5% tax. Raise Finance investment EIIS finance of up to €15m. Debt Protection Limited liability provides some protection for personal assets, as the company is a separate legal entity to you. Loss Relief a company can transfer its losses to other group companies for offset against its own profits. If a company makes a trading loss, it can carry forward the loss for offset against trading income of the next accounting periods, and carry it back against all profits. A 12.5% taxed trading loss may be offset against a 25% taxed profit, but only on a value basis. CGT Retirement Relief a trading company can qualify for tax relief on up to €750,000 when it is sold. This relief can be doubled to €1.5m if your spouse also meets the conditions. Entrepreneur Relief meaning a gain of up to €1m on disposal of the business is subject to CGT at 10%. Holding company If you anticipate the future disposal proceeds will exceed €1m, you should form a holding company which can sell the trading company at that time. The holding company can potentially receive the entire proceeds tax-free. Hope this helps,
Morita

At approximately 2.30pm the convoy will go around the outskirts of Tralee on the N22 and then head for Listowel and be the ferry around 3.15pm. All the monies raised this year are going to the Hope Foundation and the line-up of cars secheduled to take part is certainly not to be missed. TILLOTSON TRALEE AND FORMULA FEMALE JOIN FORCES: Staying with motorsport and Kerry MotorSport News has reported that Tillotson and Formula Female are joining forces to promote young women in motorsport and STEM subjects in school. Tillotson karts are made in Tralee and Formula Female was founded by Irish hockey star Nicci Daly and seven female drivers will compete in three different categories for the Tillotson T4 World Cup this weekend. Laura Hannon’s first book Daisy’s First Racecar will be launched by Formula Female and is the first in a series of STEM inspired children’s books that will follow Daisy on her motorsport and STEM journey. Proceeds from the book will go to support children’s services at CUH. The Tralee firm has become very successful since it developed its T4 series with the focus of making it more accessible and affordable to enter the sport. Started in 2019 they are now trading in 30 countries. SUB COMMITTEE TO SELECT THE NEW MANAGER: Kerry GAA’s search for a new Senior manager – or the reappointment of the present manager – is underway with a sub- committee taking on the task. This is made up of Chair Tim Murphy, Vice Chair Eamon Whelan, Secretary Peter Twiss, Munster Council Delegate John O’Leary and Games Development Manager Donal Daly. Bookies are making Jack O’Connor the favourite but a number of other names are also being mentioned if the decision is not to offer Peter Keane an extension. HURLING’S BIGGEST DAY: Best of luck to St Brendan’s and Friday 17th September 2021
Kilmoyley who will face off this Sunday at 3pm in the County Senior Hurling Championship final. The Neilus Flynn Cup is a hugely coveted trophy every year. It is named after the captain of St Brendan’s and Causeway to County Championship in 1932 and 1938. The present Cup was presented to the County Board in 2018 following on from the first one presented by the Flynn family in 1987.Kilmoyley have won 25 titles including the 2020 Championship while St Brendan’s last of their seven titles came in 2000. AUSTIN STACKS JUVENILE NEWS: The u7’s enjoyed some great games with visitors Blennerville and have games against Firies and Kerins O’Rahillys coming up. The 8/9’s had a series of games against Laune Rangers and will play Go Games against Cromane, Ballymac and Firies in the coming weeks. The u10’s/11 are also in Go Games action with the Legion the next visitors. At the u12/u13’s the B team were the only ones in action in the second round of the Tralee and St Brendan’s Boards League, sponsored by Timberland Kitchens and Flooring Tralee. They took on St Pat’s Blennerville who led 2-09 to 1-06. The second half was a tight affair with St Pats winning 2-15 to 2-10. The 3 teams were in Town League action this week and with the season coming to an end training on Tuesday and Thursdays has ended for the season. The final of the u15 Lee Strand Central Region Division 1 was played this week when the A’s took on Laune Rangers in Keel. The boys led 1-05 to 0-03 at half time and after a cracking second half it ended with a Stacks win 1-14 to 2-06. Man of the Match was Boa Foley on a team with a large number of players who were excellent on the night. Well done to the players and management. The ‘B’ were disappointed to have to concede their Central League game due to many of the boys getting their Covid vaccines on the day the game was fixed for. They are now eagerly awaiting the fixture list for the upcoming Tralee Town Championship. The Junior section of the club was delighted with the win of the seniors who defeated Kerins O’Rahillys last Sunday and will play Dingle in Sunday week. PARNELL’S NEWS: The u7’s welcomed Lixnaw to Caherslee for a series of games where there was great skill on display from all the players. Some of the new players put in some very good efforts. The u7’s will continue to train until the end of October weather permitting. The u8’s hosted Abbeydorney, Kilmoyley and Lixnaw and while the rain came it didn’t bother the players who were enjoying their game. The
u10’s took on the same opposition and showed great improvements in skills and teamwork. The u13’s played a challenge game away to Firies with the home side starting slightly the better. The game was still in the balance right up to the final whistle but Parnell’s held on for a hard fought win. The Final score was Firies 1-5 Tralee Parnell’s 3-2. In Intermediate Hurling Parnell’s took on Causeway B in the Championship semifinal with the game on in Lixnaw. The side were hoping to reach the final for the second year but started without two regulars Darragh Reen and Luke Barrett. Causeway led by two points at the first water break but by the break Parnells were 0-10 to 0-08 ahead. Causeway again made the better start to the second half and went into the lead. In the end they North Kerry side took the win 2-15 to 1-15. It was a disappointing end to the season as the Junior side also exited their Championship but the club will again take plenty of positives from the season and thanks the coaches for all their work and the players for their dedication to the jersey. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The seniors went down to neighbours the Stacks 0-12 to 1-13 in the Senior Club Championship. There was only 2 points between the sides for most of the game but the home side just took the win. This means the game against the Legion is a must win. The championships are well underway for the girls and the club wishes the 15’s all the best in their quarter final away to Glenflesk this Saturday. The 12’s Strand Road Blues side had a big win over Finuge / St Senans while the KoR side lost out to the Legion and to Dingle. Next up for the girls is the Town League. The u14’s and u16’s have Town League games coming up with the 16’s having home advantage in the first two rounds against Ballymac and Austin Stacks. The Minors went down in their semi-final 5-12 to 4-09 to Fossa and the club wished the East Kerry side all the best in the final. There was another great turn-out and some wonderful skills on show in the Academy at the weekend. The u10 girls welcomed St Pats with the u11’s boys travelling to the same opponents this week. The u13 boys beat the Stacks while the 15’s were at home to Castlegregory but the West Kerry side took the win 2-11 to 2-17 with Tomas Kennedy scoring an amazing 2-10 from 2-11. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 11,17,29 and 30 with the next jackpot being e10,000. RETURN OF BASKETBALL GETTING CLOSER: With the announcement by Basketball Ireland that full contact training for all levels and age groups is allowed from September 20th and with Leagues and competitions currently permitted to resume from October 22nd the return of basketball at all level is getting closer. The Kerry Area Basketball Board is working hard behind the scenes and will be announcing details of the coming season shortly. ON THE SOCCER FIELD: Well done to St Brendan’s Park on winning the KSBGL Summer 12’s Cup final as they defeated Mastergeeha 3-1 at Georgie O’Callaghan Park. The goals came from Johnny Neilings, Jack Daly and Edison Jahiri while keeper Samson

Abubaker saved a penalty. The KDL and the KSBGL are in full swing at the moment with Tralee Dynamos and St Brendan’s Park playing at various ages. Both clubs I am sure would be delighted to welcome new members. On the League of Ireland front the Kerry 19’s are the only one of the three EA Sports sides in action as they travel to Athlone for a 3pm Sunday kick-off. TRALEE PARK RUN BACK: The Tralee Park Run is back on Saturday mornings with participants delighted to be back after an 18 month break. Up to 150 runners take part each week in the Run in the Tralee Town Park and all are welcome for the 9am start. KERRY CREWS HEAD TO CORK: There is great excitement in the rally world with the Munster Car Club Cork 20 International Rally taking place this weekend – the first in this part of the world since the lockdown began. More than a dozen crews are crossing the border for the event which starts with a ‘Shakedown’ stage this Saturday in Watergrass Hill and continues with 9 stages in the Rathcormac, Glentane and Ballylusky areas on Sunday and the rally is headquartered in the Raddison Blu Little Island. Plans are well underway for the two big events in Kerry – the Banna Beach Resort Winter Rally and the Rentokil Initial Killarney Historic Rally. ON THE GREENS – GOLF: As I am writing this on Wednesday I see that it is ‘Thank A Green-keeper Day’. So to those who are out on the courses all over Kerry from very early in the mornings we say Thank You for the work you do. TRALEE MAN HELPS EUROPE TO SOLHEIM CUP WIN: With the Ryder Cup coming up the female version took place in Ohio last week with Europe winning 15-13 over hosts the USA. Part of the backroom team again was Tralee man Verners Tess who was responsible in making sure the caddy’s had everything they required during practice and the three days of competition. Tess is a full time caddy on the LPGA and is on the bag of Catherine Kirk from Australia. They have four tournaments in a row coming up from this weekend. PITCH & PUTT: Hard luck but well done to Deerpark’s Damien Fleming who just missed out on the National Senior Strokeplay title last weekend. He went to a 9-hole playoff with Tipperary’s Anthony Culhane going down by two after a titanic struggle. Tralee’s Jason O’Regan and Alan Hobbert also had a good day making the top 18 play-off in the senior grade finishing on 24 and 20 under respectively. Their club-mate Michael Conway put up a great defence of his Intermediate title finishing fourth overall. Keith O’Brien ended on 10 under,6 behind Michael. The Pitch and Putt season is coming to an end with the Deerpark Scratch Cup and the Adult County Matchpaly Championships in Castleisland in October.

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE !
WIFE TEXTS HUSBAND ON A COLD WINTER MORNING: "WINDOWS FROZEN, WON'T OPEN."
Husband texts back: "Gently pour some lukewarm water over it and then gently tap edges with hammer." Wife texts back 10 minutes later: "Computer really messed up now."
SINCE IT STARTED SNOWING, ALL MY GRANDMA HAS DONE IS STARE THROUGH THE WINDOW. If it gets any worse ill need to let her back in.
A MAN ON HIS DEATHBED REQUESTED HIS WIFE, 3 SONS, HIS NURSE AND A CAMERA TO BE SET UP TO RECORD HIS FINAL MOMENTS. WHICH WERE AS FOLLOWS... To my son, David, I leave the 2 blocks of flats in the East End of London. To my other son, Michael, I leave the 4 penthouses in Chelsea, and finally to my eldest son, Kevin, I leave the big glass building near Tower Bridge."
With that he slipped away. The nurse turned to the wife and said, "I never realised your husband was so wealthy. You and your sons are very lucky." His wife swiftly replied, "Was he heck! He was a bloody window cleaner!"
A BUSDRIVER AND A PRIEST HAVE A CONVERSATION...
The priest complains: "Every time i start preaching, people stop praying and fall asleep." The busdriver replies: "For me it's the other way around. When i shift into 5th gear and hit the pedal, they wake up and start praying.
WHO SAYS MEN DON'T REMEMBER?
A couple were holiday shopping at the mall, and the place was packed. As the wife walked through the mall, she was surprised to look up and see her husband was nowhere around. She was quite upset because they had a lot to do and hence, she became worried that she called him on her mobile phone to ask him where he was. In a quiet voice he said: "Honey, do you remember the jewelry store we went into about 5 years ago where you fell in love with that diamond necklace that we could not afford and I told you that I would get it for you one day?" The wife choked up and started to cry and said, "Yes, I remember that jewelry store." He replied: "Well, I'm in the pub next door!"
A HOTEL GUEST CALLS THE FRONT DESK
and the clerk answers, "May I help you?" The man says, "Yes, I'm in room 858. You need to send someone to my room immediately. I'm having an argument with my wife and she says she's going to jump out the window." The desk clerk says, "I'm sorry sir, but that's a personal matter." The man replies, "Listen you idiot. The window won't open and that's a maintenance matter."
