Everybody reads the tralee advertiser! Rose of Tralee Festival deferred until 2022! A Message from Rose of Tralee International Festival CEO, Anthony O’Gara: Since last year’s postponement, we have been working on how best we could safely deliver some, or all, of the 2021 Rose of Tralee International Festival events at home and abroad. It has been a long and difficult year for so many as a result of Covid-19, and its impact continues to be felt worldwide. The development, and the roll out of vaccines has brought much needed hope that a return to normal is in sight. Sadly, the timeframe envisaged to safely steer our communities out of this pandemic, and our responsibility to positively support those efforts, mean that we will not be able to have a Festival again this Year. Last year was the first time in our history that the Festival was postponed, and doing so again is difficult for everyone involved and of course for those supporters that look forward to celebrating our global Irish community each Friday 4th June 2021
August, but we are confident it is the right decision as we all play our part right now in keeping each other safe and well. The Rose of Tralee International Festival operates on a yearlong basis, in Irish communities worldwide; and we will continue to harness the goodwill of our extended Rose Family in supporting communities and charitable efforts over the next 12 months. Similarly, we will each have a role to play in restoring our community and local economy following this pandemic, and we look forward to coming together in celebration, showcasing Tralee and Kerry once more in August 2022. In the meantime, we salute the leadership and the selfless efforts of frontline and support staff everywhere; and among them the efforts by many of our Rose family. Our priority remains, to support the health and civic authorities in doing whatever we can to protect people’s lives.

ABOVE: The annual Kerry Hospice Sunflower Day will take place on the 12th June, it will not take place in the normal manner. The Street collections will not take place this year due to covid restrictions. It is one of our big fundraisers, which is part of a national campaign. Two years ago, we raised over 40,000 EURO, all of which stayed here to support Kerry Palliative Care services. This year it will be slightly different. In an effort to keep the tradition alive we are going to have a Virtual Sunflower garden. Cara Credit Union continue to support local communities. Cara Credit Union set up the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards back in 2017 with a four year commitment to award €120,000 to support community based projects initiated by organisations within their common bond. The charities, clubs, groups and societies operating in our local community of Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff & Causeway are among the many sectors struggling due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Due to these pressures, Cara Credit Union have extended the Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards into 2021. To date, 27 community groups and charitable organisations have already benefited from Cara Credit Union’s Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards. Speaking to Sean Roche, the Chairperson of Cara Credit Union’s Community Sponsorship Committee “Cara Credit Union is very conscious of our ethos. One way of rewarding the trust and loyalty we receive from Friday 4th June 2021
our members is by supporting projects that can help build better communities and add value throughout our common bond in Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff and Causeway. Our Lauri Healy Community Sponsorship Awards helps us achieve this objective with the distribution of funds used to encourage and complement the fantastic work that community groups do to make all our lives and communities a better place to live and work. The Sponsorship Award pledged €120,000 over a four-year period from 2017-2020. However, due to the ongoing pressures experience by community groups in these Covid-19 times we are delighted to extend the Sponsorship into 2021. We are now accepting applications and would encourage community groups who are undertaking community projects of €10,000 or more to enter. Previous unsuccessful applicants are also eligible to apply.” Speaking to Pa Laide CEO of Cara Credit Union “Lauri
Healy was one of Tralee Credit Union’s founding directors who dedicated so much time and energy to Tralee Credit Union. Lauri was also active in his support and development of other credit unions in Kerry and further afield. He was a Director with Tralee Credit Union for more than 30 years, he served with Chapter 23 for as many years and as a board member of the Irish League of

KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!
HELLo everyone! & welcome back to this brand new weekly column, 'Create with Rebecca', a page where I will be talking ALL things social media! (yaaaaaaay!). This column will be especially helpful for those in business looking to navigate the world pf social media for their business. I will be simplifying EVERYTHING as well as giving my top tips. Oh, by the way... I can edit videos, advise you on social media & create a new vibe for your brand! (Aka video editor, social media consultant & graphic designer) - so I know what I'm talking about!
WHAT DO I POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA? Ok, so last week I talked about why, as a business, you absolutely need to utilise social media. So the biggest problem businesses and clients of mine face is not using social media, but posting on social media. And guess what... it's actually not as hard as it seems. So ideally, depending on your business, it's always good, in my opinion, to have a personal brand, a face to put to the business. Why? Because people like people, people connect with people, stories and personalities. Think about the biggest brands in 2021, I'm not talking old school brands, I'm talking new ones. Grace Beverly, Tala & Shreddy. Gary Vaynerchuk, Vayner Media. Kris Jenner, The enitre Kardashian empire. Virgin, Richard Branson. Elon Musk, Tesla. Apple, Steve Jobs. In 2021 people want to see people. They want to see what they do, who they are and most importantly, they want to know their story. Now, I'm not saying you can't have a successful brand without a personal one... but... people will connect with your brand more. Forget being 'professional', people (especially gen z) see right through that. So when you think or your brand, or your personal one, I want you to think about your mission statement, the voice of the brand, what the brand stands for and they WHY behind your brand / business. Got it? Now I want you to think about 4 different words or topics that best represent your brand / business. These will help form your content pillars. What is a content pillar? It is the backbone of your social media. Everything you post online should reflect at least one of your pillars. For example, say a Beauty Salon, their content pillars might be along the lines of... - Information - Informing their audience about all things beauty, trends etc. - Services - Promoting the services they offer. - Products - Promoting the products they offer. Staff / Clients - Staff / Client takeovers or client reposts. Other examples of content pillars include... Humour, Positivity, Inspiration, Personality, Relatability... etc. When you have clear content pillars it not only makes it easier to think of what to post, but it keeps the posts varied so that your page isn't too salesy. Yes I know the goal is the earn money but on social media... it's all about building a strong, loyal and engaged community. I hope this helps you all figure out what to post next! Just remember, if someone on your team is 'doing the social media' as well as his/her/their separate job, they should be compensated! Social Media is a job and deserved to be recognised as one.
I hope you are as excited as I am for this new weekly Social Media column! I am excited to help you all become social media savvy and to learn tips - and tricks along the way. For more information on what I do or if you are interested in any of my social media service: I offer 1:1 consultation calls, video editing, graphic design and more, you can follow @create.socialmedia on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com to book a call!

Tom Quirke ‘Heart’s & Flower’s “ Memorial Fundraiser raises €1653 for Breakthrough Cancer Research ‘May 24th , 2021 saw the launch of the Tom Quirke ‘Hearts and Flowers Memorial Fundraiser in honour of my husband Tom Quirke of 48 Casement’s Avenue, Rock Street Tralee., who sadly passed away from Pancreatic Cancer in August 2018. We chose this date to coincide with the 25th Birthday of our eldest granddaughter Caroline Crowley who is a Teacher in The Green’ said Maureen Quirke . As All Ireland All Star Business Award Winners 2021 we used our platform to celebrate our event ,injecting positivity and brightness into the challenging times of Covid . We are overwhelmed by the generosity and support that we received from our community for Breakthrough Cancer Research ; the parents and families of children attending our settings at Maureen’s Pre-school , led
by our daughter Director LIz Quirke, Poet & Teacher, , Mounthawk Montessori & Busy Bees Nursery owned by our daughter Susan Quirke Crowley & Teacher with Kerry College ,as well as the families attending The Guitar Grove Music School owned by our oldest grandson , Teacher John Crowley. ‘Our Dad as many of you will know , celebrated life, success of others, love of family , the joy of nature, the beauty of flowers and above all else the importance of friends and of all of you in our lives’. said Susan. The team at Breakthrough Cancer Research from the initial support call from Eoghan ,supported us more than anyone could know. This was swiftly followed by the amazing love and support from the wonderful Team at the Mercy Hospital . Dad was
here for our first fundraiser in 2018 so to honour him our family will keep up the good work to raise awareness of Pancreatic Cancer and to support the wonderful work that Breakthrough Cancer Research do to help families every day . In the words of Tom Quirke himself ‘The show must go on “ and we intend to do this . The staff teams led by Helena Walllace Dowling, were delighted to bring some joy to the children with our event.
All children received a “Hearts and Flowers’ Certificate and Personal Portrait and each parent received a flower to mark our special occasion said Liz . It was truly amazing for our family to have our dad honoured in this way .We want to thank everyone for getting behind our fundraiser and thank everyone for their donations from all over the World including family in the USA. Remember ‘Quirke’s for Quality !’

from The Tralee Advertiser Team and Tralee Chamber Alliance Blooming Lovely! Ballyseedy Garden Centre Welcome New Staff By Georgina Downes There’s no doubt about it but lockdown focused attention on our homes and gardens. Spending more time in both seems to have triggered an ‘improvement response’ and now we want these spaces to be as up-lifting, aesthetically pleasing and as inspiring as possible. Enter Ballyseedy Garden Centre, with its gorgeous array of plants, shrubs, and budding trees, perfect to feng shui those corners we didn’t have time to notice before. As a result, people are flocking to Ballyseedy Garden Centre and
the business is set to expand its team from 85 employees currently, to 120 by this July. Ballyseedy Marketing Manager, Aisling Brosnan, is delighted with the success. “We are so proud to push boundaries and deliver exceptional service to all our customers. This is a family business built from the ground up. We’ve seen significant change over the last 29 years’ and we still have great things to come. The restaurant side of the business built on the success of the outdoor market we created
last Christmas, and now there’s additional outdoor dining hubs offering a range of great food
in a wonderful atmosphere.” See Ballyseedy.ie for details.
Local Sponsors, Positive Mental Health & Austin Stacks Austin Stacks Hurling & Football Club launched a new sponsorship of their under-age teams in glorious sunshine at Connolly Park on Sunday. Club Chairman, Billy Ryle said he was delighted that Ned O’Shea & Sons Construction Ltd and John Lane & Sons Ltd, Food Service Distributors, will jointly sponsor Austin Stacks U-17, U-15 and U-13 football teams – six teams in total – for a three-year period beginning this year. Billy said that it was a pleasure for Austin Stacks to be associated with two long established Kerry based companies. Billy thanked both companies for providing Austin Stacks with the financial support to maintain and improve the service to its young players. Billy welcomed the partnership with Jigsaw Kerry. The Rock, he said, has established a formal working relationship

with Jigsaw Kerry, which is a free, non-judgemental and confidential mental health support service for young people aged 12-25 years living, working or studying in Co. Kerry. The jerseys of the six sponsored teams will display the logo, ‘Jigsaw Kerry Youth Mental Health.’ Benny Murphy in reply on behalf of joint-sponsors, Ned O Shea & Sons Ltd and John Lane & Sons Ltd stated that both companies were delighted to sponsor Austin Stacks at a time when it was difficult to raise funds. Benny said the sponsorship would promote the wonderful work of Jigsaw Kerry, which provides a fantastic range of supports for young people with issues of mental health. Both companies were very pleased to have the Jigsaw Kerry logo on the front of the jerseys. That exposure will create awareness of the
availability of the service. Frank O Rahilly of Jigsaw Kerry said he was delighted to be present at the launch. He added that he has great admiration for the club and the standards by which it operates. Austin Stacks was now adding a new dimension to a GAA club by extending player welfare to activities off the field. HELLO YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! This week I am going to talk about something that I talk to all of my 1:1 coaching clients about. MINDSET. I am here to provide you all with some confident energy each week going forward so that you can... CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
MINDSET. Last week I left you all with the task to become aware of your thoughts, how you talk to yourself and how you generally think all day everyday. Did you know we have, on average, 65,000 thoughts per day. YES. Per. Day. Firstly, this fact alone should be more than enough reason to 1) not believe every single negative thought you have, and 2) make you want to take control of your thoughts so that they do not control you. Think about it, when your brain is on autopilot or default, whether or not the thoughts that come to you are generally based on the average thoughts you have. This is why it's so hard to start something new, form a new habit or change a belief - because our mind is not used to the new and automatically reverts to the old. Now, this is where you come in... As I always say, self awareness is the first step, because until you stop and notice them, you probably didn't realise what thoughts are on default in your mind. But now you do. So... next time you have a negative thought, challenge it. Ask yourself is this thought 100% true, imagine who you would be without the thought, and... counteract the negative thought by forcing yourself to think of something positive. Now... you might be wondering why I'm even bringing up mindset, I mean, this page is about confidence, not mindset, right? Well... Confidence is a mindset. It all starts in your mind. The only reason that you are not confident, is because you have believed too many of your negative thoughts about yourself, these thoughts actually aren't even yours, they were projected onto you from the media, society, people around you, even friends and family. Nobody is born thinking negatively of themselves, or believing that they cannot do something because they lack confidence, they have taken on a projection as their identity and therefore believe that they're not confident. Why? Because they think that one is born confident. . This is a lot to take in, I know. But... the thing with confidence, and any form of self development really, is that it takes time. It doesn't happen overnight and isn't just a switch that flips in your brain. So... I hope I have made all of you realise that you can in fact become confident. Confidence isn't something you were born without, you just need to work on developing it.
Has this page sparked something inside of you.? Are you dying to unlock the most confident version of yourself? Well... I have a Virtual Confidence Masterclass coming up June 14th at 7pm (don't worry it's not done on zoom)! For more details on the masterclass or to sign up - email me rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com or follow @theconfidencegame on Instagram!
I would absolutely love to do a Confidence Q&A (100% anonymous of course), so if you have any confidence questions you can email them to rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com with the word 'CONFIDENCE' in the subject line. For more information on what I do or if you are interested in Confidence Coaching, you can follow @theconfidencegame on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com for more information about 1:! coaching, group coaching or masterclasses!

Tralee & ‘Cluster Gardai’... A model for community policing In a joint-initiative the Gardai based in Tralee Garda Station and Tralee Chamber Alliance, this week announced plans to further develop the Cluster Gardai programme that was first launched in Tralee in mid2019. The Cluster Gardai programme, which was trialled in 2019 saw dedicated community Gardai assigned to support the business community in ‘clusters’ throughout the town. Today this programme is being announced as a permanent system in Tralee and will see the support from new dedicated Gardai expanded to assist daytime and for the first time the evening-time businesses. The programme has developed a number of key measures supported by the Retail Team and the newly formed Night-Time Economy Team in Tralee Chamber, working directly with the Gardai in Tralee. The programme will have dedicated Cluster Gardai assigned to seven zones in the Town centre and Manor West who not only will be visiting businesses as part of expanded and targeted patrols, but now will also be working directly with the business community on a number of initiatives including online training sessions on crime prevention measures and tailored supports for businesses in Tralee. Speaking at the launch Sandra
Rusk, Chair of the Retail Team in Tralee Chamber said, “When it was first launched the Cluster programme barely had time to bed in before Covid hit. We want to take this opportunity to thank the Gardai for all the work they have done over the past year in keeping the county safe. We look forward now to working with the Gardai in supporting the retailers in Tralee.” As part of the measures, expanded uniformed patrols in the town centre will take place between the hours of 12pm-6pm and 8pm-3am daily, along with the development of a new privately owned CCTV database to support the existing public CCTV coverage of the town. Speaking at the launch Sergeant Tim O’Keeffe outlined “The new Safe Home campaign will be operated with the vintners throughout Tralee to help customers who walk home at night to be more visible and will be part of our wider campaign to make sure people have a safer summer when they are out enjoying themselves in Tralee. We will be working with all the pubs, restaurants and taxis throughout the town in the coming weeks so people can enjoy their nights out in Tralee even more.” Commenting on the launch, Aidan Turner Sub-Chair of the new Night-Time team in Tralee
Chamber Alliance said “ We are honest enough to recognise where we need to improve things in the town and we are doing something about it.” Ken Tobin, CE of Tralee Chamber said “Relating to anti-social behaviour, and in particular in public areas in the town and in areas such as the Town-Park and Walkways, the Gardai and ourselves will be adopting a Zero-Tolerance approach. When we say zero-tolerance, we really mean it, we have a really nice town and we intend keeping it that way. The Gardai have given us the firm commitment that reported incidents will be dealt with.”Mayor of Tralee, Councillor Terry O’Brien welcomed today’s announcement “Having our business community working
hand in hand with the Gardai and the Elected Members in such a proactive manner is an incredibly positive sign for the town. Over the coming weeks the programme will be rolling out through the Chamber to every businesses within the town centre, with the Cluster Gardai calling into to meet business owners directly to exchange contact details, and the new patrols in the town centre starting immediately. The Chamber and Gardai also wish to remind the public that the See Something Say Something text alert system is there – Simply text the word Tralee followed by the incident details to 50555 Photo courtesy of Dermot Crean

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2021
Long hot days of Summer! must be BBQ time! With the weather picking up we can get it on with the BBQ, nothing too serious mind but tasty all the same! Here is a recipe that even the little ones will love! ....Absolutely delicious!
PINEAPPLE & PORK SKEWERS INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • •
400g pork fillet 4 tbsp brown sugar 60ml cider vinegar 1 tsp fish sauce ½ small pineapple, peeled, cored and cut into chunks (or use ready prepped fresh pineapple, drained well) 1 Bell pepper deseeded and cut into squares (optional) 4 spring onion, trimmed and cut into 4 equal lengths small bunch coriander, chopped (optional) Rice or pitta, to serve
METHOD STEP 1 Cut the pork into cubes. Heat the sugar and vinegar in a pan over a low heat until the sugar melts. Add the fish sauce and cool. Tip in the pork and mix well so that all the cubes are covered in sauce. STEP 2 Heat the barbecue. If you are using coals, wait until they turn white. If you are indoors, heat a griddle pan Thread the pork and pineapple onto skewers, alternating pieces with the pepper and spring onion. STEP 3 Barbecue or griddle the skewers for 3-4 mins each side (you may need to cook them for longer if griddling). Sprinkle with coriander, if you like, then serve with rice or slide into pitta breads. Now that’s a taste of Summer ....Enjoy ... Noels Notes Dont forget ‘Outdoor Dining ‘ starts from Bank Holiday Monday June 7th and the best of luck to all of us in the hospitality sector, we really need the publics support on this one! T RQ U I N G CINA R SAND ! KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS! PREMIUM ADVERTISING 24 O KEEP YOUR BUSINESS TRALEE TOYOTA LAUNCHES GROUNDBREAKING 10-YEAR WARRANTY
Toyota and Lexus have launched an industry-leading warranty programme that provides up to 10 years’ cover for new and used cars, vans and pick-up trucks. The ‘Relax’ scheme adds a year’s warranty to a vehicle each time it is serviced at a Toyota or Lexus dealer. There is no extra cost for the programme, servicing costs are unchanged, and vehicles are eligible until they are 10 years old or have covered 100,000 miles.Relax comes with every new Toyota or Lexus, and also applies retrospectively to models already on the market, as long as they are under 10 years old and have covered fewer than 100,000 miles. This means if you were to go out today and buy a nine-year-old, 90,000-mile Prius, you could add a year’s manufacturer warranty to it simply by getting it serviced at a Toyota dealer. The scheme also applies to vehicles that have been maintained outside the Toyota and Lexus dealer networks: bringing a car back in for a main or interim service will activate Relax for a year. Vehicles used commercially, including taxis, are covered, as are all powertrain types, including hybrids, electric cars and the hydrogen Toyota Mirai. A number of manufacturers offer warranties that extend beyond the once-traditional three-year period; Renault and Hyundai provide five years’ cover, while Kia gives a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty. Toyota previously offered a five-year/100k-mile policy, and Lexus a three-year/60k one. Relax replaces both these with a three year, 60,000-mile warranty as standard, and this can be extended each time a vehicle is serviced at a main dealer. The scheme works in the same way for vehicles with longer service intervals: the Toyota Proace van, for example, has a two-year maintenance schedule, and so has two years of warranty added each time it is serviced.Toyota’s price promise, which sees dealers match service quotes from independent garages within 10 miles, is also unchanged. Rob Giles from Toyota GB called Relax “game-changing”, while adding that it brings “compelling business benefits” for the firm.
WHY IS TOYOTA DOING THIS?
Relax is good news for consumers, so is likely to attract new buyers in and of itself. Toyota also expects a “significant growth” in dealer footfall, upping servicing income and tempting more people with new cars. Residual values are also likely to increase, and with PCP deals paying off depreciation, over time this could theoretically have a positive impact on new-car finance. Plus the firms’ exposure to warranty costs is proportionally low: our Driver Power data shows 9.6 per cent of Toyota and 11.1 per cent of Lexus owners had issues with their cars; the industry average was 17.34 per cent.
GLOBAL CHIP SHORTAGE HITS CAR MAKERS
A global shortage of semiconductor chips is leading car makers to scale back production, limiting the options and vehicles available for new-car buyers. Semiconductors form the basis of the integrated chips and circuit boards used in electronic equipment like computers and mobile phones, and they’re crucial for cars, helping run everything from digital displays to stability control systems. Some makers are reported to be pulling advertising due to expected shortages of new vehicles, while others are limiting options, prioritising essential features over extras.Experts predict the issue may take as long as two years to resolve, and while car showrooms were in reasonably rude health last month, factory shutdowns now may take weeks or months to impact consumers directly, with some predicting the second half of 2021 will see the worst effects. It’s not just the car industry that has been hit: everything from fridges and washing machines, to games consoles and laptops have been subject to supply limits. Yet in the face of the global computing, phone and electronics industries, car makers are small fry. Roughly 89 per cent of revenue for one leading Taiwanese chipmaker comes from the computing, phone and ‘internet of things’ (connected devices such as smart TVs) industries, with car firms responsible for just three per cent. This puts car makers at a relative disadvantage as semiconductor makers prioritise their largest clients.Lockdowns have seen reduced chip production due to closed factories, while many employees working from home partly explains last year’s 13-per-cent growth in the global PC market. And with a lack of commutes or holidays leaving some with extra cash, plus closed entertainment venues meaning empty diaries, there was a surge in demand for games consoles and consumer electronics. Factor in wider trends such as the roll-out of 5G technology, the growth in cryptocurrency mining, and the stockpiling of chips due to international trade tensions, and a heady brew emerges.Almost every car maker has been affected to some extent by the shortage. The outgoing Peugeot 308 is being built with analogue dials rather than a digital display due to a lack of chips, while Jaguar Land Rover and MINI both previously paused production at UK plants, and Ford expects to make 1.1 million fewer cars this year globally.Lisa Brankin, MD of Ford of Britain, told Auto Express the firm has cars both at dealers and en route to the UK, but buyers making new orders could face “slightly longer” lead times.Citroen’s CEO, Vincent Cobée, called the issue “substantial”, but said the same chips are sometimes used on different parts, giving the example that “components are used on headlamps or control modules”. This means a car’s specifications can be tweaked to ensure vital components get the chips they need ahead of optional parts. Friday 4th June 2021

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! BIG FARM
A Texan rancher comes to Ireland and meets a Kerry farmer. The Texan says, “Takes me a whole goddam day to drive from one side of my ranch to the other.” The Kerry farmer says, “Ah sure, I know, sir. We have tractors like that over here too.”
JOB DONE
A Spanish singer chatting on television used the word ‘manana’. When asked what that meant, he said it means “maybe the job will be done to-morrow, maybe the next day, maybe the day after that, next week, next month or next year. Who cares?” An Irishman in the conversation, Shay Brennan, was then asked if there’s an Irish equivalent. “No. In Ireland we don’t have a word to describe that level of urgency”
WHERE IS MULLIGAN?
Two Irishmen met and one said to the other, “Have ye seen Mulligan lately, Pat?” Pat said, “Well, I have and I haven’t.” His friend asked, “well what d’ye mean by that?” Pat said, “It’s like this, y’see…I saw a chap who I thought was Mulligan, and he saw a chap that he thought was me. And when we got up to one another…it was neither of us.”
OUR HOUSE
Murphy was selling his house, and put the matter in an agent’s hands. The agent wrote up a sales blurb for the house that made wonderful reading. After Murphy read it, he turned to the agent and asked, “Have I got all you say there?” The agent said, Certainly ye have…Why do you ask? Murphy replied, cancel the sale, the place sounds grand to me
OHH MY GOD!
O’Connell was staggering home with a small Paddy in his back pocket when he slipped and fell heavily. Struggling to his feet, he felt something wet running down his leg. “Please, God,” he implored, “let it be blood!”
FRIDAY NIGHT
driving very erratically. He pulled the man over and asked him if he had been drinking that evening. ‘’Aye, so I have. ‘Tis Friday, you know, so me and the lads stopped by the pub where I had six or seven pints. And then there was something called ‘Happy Hour’ and they served these mar-gar-itos which are quite good. I had four or five o’ those. Then I had to drive me friend Mike home and o’ course I had to go in for a couple of Guinness -- couldn’t be rude, ye know. Then I stopped on the way home to get another bottle for later...’’ And the man fumbled around in his coat until he located his bottle of whiskey, which he held up for inspection. The officer sighed, and said, ‘’Sir, I’m afraid I’ll need you to step out of the car and take a breathalyzer test.’’ ‘’Why? Don’t ye believe me?’’
LAST NIGHT, MY WIFE GOT MAD AT ME FOR KICKING SOME ICE CUBES UNDER THE REFRIGERATOR... but now it’s just water under the fridge.
A WIFE ASKS HER HUSBAND IF SHE WERE TO DIE, WOULD HE REMARRY?...
and her husband says “yes I would remarry I like living a married life and spending time with someone else. The wife gets uncomfortable and proceeds to ask “ well would you let her live in our house?” And the husband says “yes I’d let her live here there’s nothing wrong with this house.” That worried the wife more, so then she asks “well would you let her sleep in our bed?” And the husband says “yes I like my bed and I don’t want to get rid of it I’d let her sleep in it.” This only makes the wife more worried so she feels compelled to say “well at least promise me you will never let her use my golf clubs.” The husband say “don’t worry she will never use your clubs, she’s left handed.”

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR SPORT BEGINNING TO HAVE A NORMAL LOOK ABOUT IT: The coming June Bank Holiday weekend will live long in the memory of many young sports persons as from this Monday players will get back on the football and soccer fields for competitive games after a number of weeks being only allowed train. While the GAA clubs would always have games at this time of the year it’s a new departure for the Kerry Schoolboys Girls League and Kerry District League. Soccer in Kerry is played over the Standard Season – August to May but with so much time missed by players both Leagues are playing summer competitions for the first time. And while it will be a busy time for players they will love that after not kicking a ball for so many months. Nearly all outdoor sports are now back with competitive action on the golf and Pitch n Putt courses also underway. Indoor sports will still have to wait a little longer but hopefully there will be a plan for these to return after the summer. Another area that sporting fans are celebrating is the return of fans to games. We are behind other countries in this with fans in Wembley for example for last weekend’s play-offs and of course at one of the biggest motor races in the world the Indy 500 which took place last Sunday over 135,000 were at the brickyard to see Helio Castroneves. He entered the history books winning his 4th Indy 500 at 46 years of age. As an aside is really is the time of the elder sports stars with Tom Brady winning the Super Bowl and Phil Mickleson taking top spot in the recent golf major. And of course there was an Irish angle with Conor Daly, son of legendary F1 driver Derek, leading the race for over 40 laps for the first time in his career. But back to Irish fans getting back into stadiums and the Minister for Sport Jack Chambers has announced 15 fixtures where a number of fans will be allowed in depending on the size of the stadium. It is disappointing that none of these test fixtures are in Kerry – on the music side the INCE in Killarney will be hosting a concert on June 26th. The Kerry v Tyrone GAA League semi-final which will be played in Killarney would have been a perfect match to allow fans in. It is hoped that in the bigger stadiums numbers allowed in will be well into the ‘0000’s as the summer progresses. The first games where fans can attend in Ireland are on the 11th of June with Friday 4th June 2021
Leinster playing Dragons at the RDS, Shamrock Rovers playing Finn Harps at Tallaght Stadium and Cork City facing Cabinteely in Turners Cross with up to 500 fans being the lucky ones. They have pencilled in the GAA Men’s National Football League finals in Croke Park from June 18th to 20th. But with the way the League is structured this year it looks that even if Kerry beat Tyrone in the semi-final there won’t be a final due to the closeness of the Championship. But the most important thing for now is that the turn styles are opening up and hopefully for all those involved in these games and working at these grounds everything will go well and once we hit July many more will be allowed in to many more games. GOOD NEWS FOR KERRY RALLY CLUBS AND FANS: In a week where Killarney’s Noel O’Sullivan was back calling the notes in the British Rally Championship there was also good news for Kerry when Motorsport Ireland released a provisional calendar. O’Sullivan and driver Osian Pryce took 3rd in the rally that was held at Oulton Park. On the Motorsport Ireland Provisional calendar there are 17 ‘nongated’ events such as rallies and while these have not yet been given the green light by the Government it is hoped that in the coming weeks and months they will be allowed go ahead. The Kerry Mini-Stages Rally, run by the Kerry Motor Club, has been given the date of November 7th but could also take place on October 24th if the Fastnet Rally in West Cork does not go ahead. The Killarney and District Motor Club will be delighted to see their Killarney Historic Rally on the calendar for November 27th. ON-LINE COACHING FOR TRALEE BAY SWIMS: The Tralee Bay Swimming club are planning for their major swims later in the summer with the Across the Bay Challenge in aid of Fenit Lifeboats one of the main one. A zoom meeting took place this week for those new to distance swimming and if you missed this contact the club on their social media pages and I am sure they will give you the details from that meeting and links to further training. The club is also collecting membership
GOOD WEEKEND ON THE GAA FRONT: It was a good weekend on the GAA front with wins for the Men’s, Women’s, the Hurlers and the camogie sides. CLUB NOTES: AUSTIN STACKS – Well done to Ned O’Shea and Sons and John Lane & Sons Ltd, Food Distributors – two hugely successful companies – who have been announced as sponsors for the Stacks u17, 15’s and u13’s football teams, six in total, for three years. Club Chair Billy Ryle said the club was delighted with the support from the two long established Kerry businesses and their financial support will be of huge benefit to the club. The jerseys of the six teams will display the logo ‘Jigsaw Kerry Youth Mental Health’ and Austin Stacks is also availing of the expertise of Jigsaw Kerry to provide mental health information, support and counselling for team members, both individually and in groups. Everyone involved with the club is hugely proud of Joseph O’Connor who made his Kerry senior debut at the weekend and topped off a memorable day with a goal. The Minor County League begins this Monday with a visit to Ardfert. The following two Monday nights the minors will be at home to Dr Crokes and away to Glenflesk with all games starting at 7.30pm. They are in Group B and the top two will qualify for the semi-finals. Renowned club historian Tim Slattery was quick with the answer as to who the last Stacks man to do this was – the late Eddie Barrett scored a goal in his League debut against Laois on March 30th 1931! The club is still waiting for dates for the start of the County League which was due to begin the weekend after next. The club with have an A and B team in the Leagues. Lotto – there was no winner from the numbers drawn 8,11, 12 and 27 and the next jackpot will be e2,100 with tickets from the usual outlets. ST PAT’S NEWS There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 5,21,22 and 230 and the next jackpot will be e6000 with the draw taking place this Sunday night. There was a great turn-out for the Academies starting with the under 5’s. The u7’s and u9’s are showing off some great skill s and more importantly enjoying their training. They will train again this Sunday. The u11’s training on Friday evening and on Sunday with big numbers on both days. They will train on the same days this week –at 6pm on Friday and 12 noon on Sunday. Over30 girls trained in three pods at the session for 9 to 12 year olds. The coaches were delighted with all the girls.
