KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES Derek’s mother Ita is elderly and has a diagnosis of dementia. At present she has mental and legal capacity but both of them are worried about the future where she may not have the legal or mental capacity to look after her affairs. They are wondering what legal mechanisms that they can put in place. Until the Assisted Decision-Making Capacity Act 2015 is fully operational we are dependent on a number of different mechanisms. While Ita has legal mental capacity she can authorise Derek as her agent simply with written authority to act on her behalf in relation to finances, social welfare, housing, pensions, property etc. However these agency arrangements do not usually extend to a period where a person loses their mental capacity. Social Welfare have mechanisms in place to allow Derek to ensure that Ita’s pension is provided for her account of that the relevant portion of it is paid to a residential home. This can continue when Ita loses mental capacity. At present it is a good idea to appoint people attorneys under an Enduring Power of Attorney and with this document after it is enrolled in the High Court next of kin/trusted people can operate for the person who has lost their legal and mental capacity. They can lease or sell property, decide where the person will live, their diet and dress and look after their personal, welfare and financial arrangements. They may also have a role in healthcare decisions if Ita had not done a living will or advanced healthcare directive.

If there is no one appointed under an enduring power of attorney it may mean that Derek will need to have himself appointed as a Care Representative for applying for the fair deal scheme or have Ita made a Ward of Court which is a complicated and expensive procedure. Once the new Assisted decision making legislation comes in it will make matters a lot easier for Derek in this situation as he can be appointed a co-decision maker or a Decision-making representative thereby carrying out his mother’s wishes, will and preference. Next of kin often find it very difficult to realise that they cannot act on a loved one’s behalf to look after their affairs unless they have legal authority to do so. GDPR has only made this worse as it may be difficult to access information to do the best for their relative due to GDPR restrictions. A person without legal or mental capacity cannot give authority to anyone to act on their behalf once they are in that vulnerable state. Therefore if one’s loved one like Ita is likely to become more vulnerable and likely to lose their capacity to act on their own behalf it is important that legal mechanisms have been put in place to allow next of kin to operate on their behalf. Lawquip: U 2’s lawyers work pro bono.

Derryquay National School Sixth Class Graduation Class The graduation took place last week. Friday 25th June 2021

President Higgins sends a message to all Primary School Students Is mian liom gach beannacht a ghuí oraibh, a dhaltaí bunscoile, agus sibh ag teacht chun deireadh na bliana scoile, agus ag tabhairt aghaidh anois ar na laethanta saoire fhada atá romhaibh. May I send my very best wishes to all our primary school children as you enter the final weeks of this school year. It has I am aware been a difficult, and in some ways strange, year for all of you. At school, you have been asked to follow new rules and restrictions in order to keep your fellow pupils, teachers and their families safe. At home, too, you have had to find different ways to keep in touch with your friends and to pursue your hobbies and interests as you played your important part in preventing, as much as possible, the spread of Covid 19. Following your Christmas break you were all asked to once again learn at home for some time, and for those of you who could, to work online with your teachers and your classmates until it was safe for you to return to your schools. You have also, of course, been unable to enjoy many of the events that are normally such an important part of the school year for many of you, including religious ceremonies such as First Holy Communion and Confirmation ceremonies, Christmas plays and concerts, sports days, tours and outings.

HELLO YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!

This week I am going to talk about something very important... being your own biggest fan.

BE YOUR OWN BIGGEST FAN. This is the most important advice I will ever give you... be your own biggest fan. Here in Ireland, a lot of the time when someone 'loves themselves' it has a negative or condescending tone. We love to support the underdog but as soon as they start seeing potential in themselves or realising their worth, they 'love themselves' or are 'getting too big for their boots'. You know what this is ladies and gentlemen... projection. The person that is now doing well and is not afraid to be aware of it or self deprecate is now highlighting an insecurity in us that we are not happy about, so what do we do? Project that security onto them. Now of course, if you weren't aware up until this point of your projection onto others, you may have just became A LOT more self aware. But, I'm not here to give out about how people look at or talk about confident people... I'm here to make you realise that if someone doesn't like that you're your own biggest fan... That's their problem, not yours. It is SO important to be your own biggest fan... why? Because YOU are the only person who listens to your thoughts every single day, day in day out. So if those thoughts aren't full of self belief, confidence, and rooting for you... I mean, how are you supposed to feel confident? People think confidence is this big scary secret skill, that only select people have, but actually, confident people are their own biggest fans. They tell themselves they can do, be or achieve whatever lies ahead, they pick themselves up when they're down, and if someone compliments them, they say 'thank you' because they know that self deprecation and making themselves feel small to make others feel comfortable is not going to benefit them. In fact, it is absolutely necessary to love yourself, be your own biggest fan and hype yourself up. Don't let anyone make you feel otherwise.

Has this page sparked something inside of you.? Are you dying to unlock the most confident version of yourself? Well... I do 1:1 online confidence coaching where you can work with me on your confidence for 8 weeks. if you are interested in Confidence Coaching, you can follow @theconfidencegame on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com

I would absolutely love to do a Confidence Q&A (100% anonymous of course), so if you have any confidence questions you can email them to rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com with the word 'CONFIDENCE' in the subject line. For more information on what I do or if you are interested in Confidence Coaching, you can follow @theconfidencegame on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com for more information about 1:1 coaching, group coaching or masterclasses!

€100,000 in funding for Kerry under Community Monuments Fund 2021 Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley has welcomed the announcement of €106,355 in funding to support the conservation, maintenance, protection and promotion of local monuments and historic sites in Kerry. The Community Monuments Fund aims to enable important conservation works to be carried out on archaeological monuments which are deemed to be significant and in need of urgent support. This tranche of funding will specifically improve access to archaeological monuments and improve their presentation while also build resilience in archaeological monuments enabling them to withstand the effects of climate change. Minister Foley said: “I welcome this funding which will provide valuable support to the heritage sector, providing job opportunities across these chosen projects in Kerry for archaeologists, conservation architects, stone masons, and other professional trades. These monuments provide a sense of place to rural communities, villages and towns across the country and I am delighted to see areas in Kerry such as Ballinskelligs, Castleisland and Cloghane benefitting from this scheme.” The following Kerry projects have been successful under this year’s allocations: Ballinskelligs Castle (Stream 1) - €77,705 Castleisland Castle (Stream 2) €21,516 Cloghane Churches (Stream 2) - €7,134 Friday 25th June 2021

AND NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS...

from The Tralee Advertiser Team and Tralee Chamber Alliance

Fun is back in town! By Georgina Downes @ The Chamber Alliance It’s been a long time and oh, how we’ve missed them, but finally, there is light at the end of those crazy-maze tunnels. Some of our favourite indoor adventure arenas are set to reopen soon and honestly, we can hardly wait.

From July 1st, Bowling Buddies is back in action. This is no ordinary bowling alley; it is a state-of-the-art fun-feast featuring ten bowling lanes and a chic, revamped café. Adults, fancy a glass of vino while the kids get stuck in at the video arcade? No problem. Plus, there is the amazing, out-of-this-world SKYWALKER EXPERIENCE

where youngsters can get their spiderman vibe on as they brave the heights, swinging around the ceilings like daddylong-legs. Welcome back Bowling Buddies. Equally as exciting, we have the Playdium set to reopen on July 5th. Anyone in Tralee with smallies will recognise the armflapping, leg-hopping sheer delight a trip to this indoor play arena generates, because this is Ireland’s largest and most enjoyable soft-play area for everyone under the age of 12! FYI, there will be four play sessions available each day; 10am, 12noon, 2pm and 4pm and each session will last for one hour and 45 mins. All visits to be booked on the Playdium website. Birthday parties won’t be massive but still lots of fun, limited to one party per session and a maximum of 15 children and four adults can attend, but we’ll take that, thank you very much and we’re delighted you’re back. For more information see theplaydium.ie

ticket, and avail of the thrilling atmosphere first-hand. The bar and fast food counter are open but beverages and burgers are to be consumed outside. Tote and bookies are all in operation so grab a race card, make your choice and place a bet! Call Declan on 0872867823 for further information. Folks may not realise this but Crag Cave is open daily for self-guided tours. Selfguided tours? Yes, indeed. The people at Crag Cave will send a detailed audio tour session to your chosen device. So now you can go off and explore the caves on your own, whilst listening to experts explain exactly what it is you’re discovering. Perfect if you like to do things at your own pace and also ideal if you like your outings calm, so avail now before Crag Cave resumes its usual busy, hectic peak. The restaurant is open daily from 10am for breakfast and lunch,

outdoor dining only, and you can still browse their gift shop for a souvenir of your visit. Basically, it’s business as usual, but without the play area (sorry kids) but the staff are hopeful of a return to normality soon. Looking forward already. Call Lisa on 0872231947 for more information on tours.

Next out of the traps we have The Kingdom Greyhound Stadium. Races have been going on behind closed doors during lockdown but happily, since early June, punters can rock up at the turnstiles, but a

2020...The worst time to open a business? Perhaps the best time for Colourplans.com!

There’s no perfect time to start a business but March 2020 might stand out to people as a particularly unfortunate moment. Nevertheless that’s exactly when Colourplans.com was to begin. The idea for Colourplans had been in the owners heads for some time and indeed much of the preparatory work had already been carried out. The move towards online design services, so called “E-Design”, has been obvious for some time and the arrival of the pandemic, with people confined to their homes and in-person consultation Friday 25th June 2021

impossible, seems to have pushed it along.

The premise of the service is to provide the best expert advice for colour schemes and design at accessible prices and from the comfort of one’s own home. The designer overseeing all of the schemes is Kadri Bormeister who many may know from her time as in-store Colour Consultant with Pat McDonnells in their Tralee outlet. While there Kadri has established a reputation for daring colour combinations and design schemes that suited the individual context of the space in question whether

it be a household or a commercial outlet. It is this acumen based on design aesthetics, while working across all paint brands, that she brings to Colourplans and to its clients. Check out the website to see the very simple and affordable process of getting professional design advice for your project. Simply visit Colourplans.com or call us on 083-0186689

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2021

With good weather coming to us, it’s time to think outdoor lunches and what better than a pulled pork sandwich with a little aisan hint to it

THAI-STYLE PULLED PORK SANDWICHES INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • •

1/3 cup Thai red curry paste 1/4 cup Asian fish sauce 6 tablespoons finely grated palm sugar or dark brown sugar One 4-pound boneless pork shoulder roast with fat cap Salt Pepper 2 cups chopped coriander stems 4 garlic cloves 2 large shallots, halved 2 kaffir lime leaves 1 Thai bird chile 1 stalk of fresh lemongrass, inner light green and white parts only,

• • • • • • • • •

cut into 3 pieces ]One 1/2-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced 24 cardamom seeds 1 1/2 teaspoons ground turmeric •One can coconut milk, chilled 1/3 cup chicken stock 1/2 cup each finely chopped coriander Thai basil and mint leaves Mayonnaise, for spreading 8 brioche buns, split and toasted Thinly sliced cucumber and red onion, coriander Thai basil and lime wedges, for serving

METHOD Preheat the oven to 160. In a small pan, simmer the curry paste with the fish sauce and 1/4 cup of the palm sugar over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved and a smooth paste forms. Let cool slightly. Season the pork with salt and rub it all over with the curry paste. Set the roast in a large enameled cast-iron casserole. Cover and roast, basting occasionally with the pan juices, until the meat is very tender, about 3 1/2 hours. Uncover and roast until a golden-brown crust forms, about 15 minutes Transfer the pork to a large bowl and let rest for 15 minutes. Using 2 forks, shred the meat. Skim the fat from the pan juices, then stir the juices into

the shredded pork. Cover with foil and keep warm. Make a large double layer of foil. Wrap the coriander stems, garlic, shallots, lime leaves, chile, lemongrass, ginger, cardamom and turmeric in the foil and seal the sides. Set the packet seam side up directly on a burner or in a cast-iron pan Cook over moderate heat until aromatic and beginning to smoke, about 5 minutes. Using tongs, transfer the packet to a rack; let cool slightly. The coriander stems should be tender and the ingredients on the bottom should be lightly charred Scrape the contents of the packet into a food processor. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of palm sugar and process to a smooth paste. Open the

BLM Kerry announces 1st protest of 2021

BLM Kerry have announced their 1st protest in 2021 (3rd Protest that will occur this Saturday at 14:00 - 15:00 in Tralee Town Square. This comes in light of the killing of George Nkencho late 2020. BLM Kerry would like to remind attendees that group sizes are limited to six people per social bubble. They also reinforce the fact masks/face coverings & social distancing are mandatory at the event.

Munster Technological University Awarded over €2.2m to Provide 837 Places in 28 courses!

Munster Technological University has secured €2,2190,980 in funding to provide 837 places under the Government’s Springboard+ and Human Capital Initiatives for the academic year 2021/2022. In total, MTU is offering 28 Springboard+ courses as part of its suite of part-time offering. A further €616,400 was received to offer 106 places across a range of culinary and food service operations programmes to address the significant shortage of qualified staff in the tourism and hospitality sector as Ireland looks to reopen following the COVID19 pandemic. These funded places are spread over 28 courses in a broad range of disciplines including Cloud Computing, Data Science and Analytics, Quantity Surveying and Culinary Skills, Pharmacy Management, Circular Economy as well as in Sustainable Agriculture, Automation & Control, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Practices & Systems, Information Design & Development, Building Information Modelling (BIM) with Revit, Leadership and Transformational Change and Automotive Operations. Michael Loftus, Vice President for External Affairs at MTU stated “MTU is fully committed to the development of graduates who have the skills, positive attitude and overall ability required by industry. While this focus has always been centrally important to our work, it is now more vital than ever that we work to support industry at a time of unprecedented challenge associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding will enable us to reskill and upskill those seeking employment, as well as those who are currently in employment, at their time of greatest need. MTU is committed to industry engagement and our partnerships with enterprises and representative groups, such as the South-West Regional Skills Forum, ensure that our courses are current and relevant. The work-based learning approach which has been designed into these courses will maximise the employability of the graduates.” Brid Mc Elligott, Vice President for Development, Research and External Engagement at MTU, said: “The Springboard+ initiative offers free, or subsidised, part-time courses leading to qualifications that are in demand by employers. Many courses focus on future-proofing the skills of people already in employment, particularly in roles that may be impacted by digitalisation. To date MTU has worked with over 6,000 Springboard+ students, resulting in many graduates now pursuing rewarding careers. All courses selected for funding under Springboard+ 2021 are in areas of identified skills needs.”

20 KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

HELLo everyone! & welcome back to this brand new weekly column, 'Create with Rebecca', a page where I will be talking ALL things social media! (yaaaaaaay!). This column will be especially helpful for those in business looking to navigate the world pf social media for their business. I will be simplifying EVERYTHING as well as giving my top tips. Oh, by the way... I can edit videos, advise you on social media & create a new vibe for your brand! (Aka video editor, social media consultant & graphic designer) - so I know what I'm talking about!

WHAT ARE REELS? WHY POST THEM?

Last week we talked about TikTok, so this week it would only be right to talk about Instagram Reels aka the bootleg TikTok. I'm joking, Reels are great, just once you're aware that if you find yourself scrolling the reels section on IG that you're most likely not on trend and instead of watching recycled TikToks on Instagram, your time would be better spent simply... downloading TikTok. Ok, no seriously. If you're wanting to boost engagement on IG then yes, you need to be posting reels. What are reels? They're 30 second videos. They can be anything from short clips with background music, a trend (most likely inspired by TikTok) or just you talking. Bare in mind if it is you talking make sure you say something interesting in the first two seconds otherwise, people will have already scrolled to the next thing, captions on the screen are also great to catch people's attention. When it comes to reels, or any short form content to be honest, you have to be aware that the attention span of the potential viewers is LOW, they're looking for something new, interesting and different, something that will keep them watching, So now that you know what a reel is, why should you post them? Well, due to TikTok essentially threatening Instagram's existence, the Instagram algorithm is pushing creator's reels to new audiences, AKA, more people who don't follow you might see your reel and therefore follow you. So yeah, the main reason I would advise to post reels is to attempt to win the bid for high Instagram engagement and exposure. If you actually want to be ahead of the curve... Download TikTok. Is it slightly overwhelming to think of navigating and making reels ? Do you not even know where to begin? Well... that's where the professionals come in. You can hop on a 1 hour call with me and I can coach you to become your own in house social media manager.... or you can hire me to do it! If you want to discuss this more contact me at rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com with the subject line 'SOCIAL MEDIA'. -

I hope you are as excited as I am for this new weekly Social Media column! I am excited to help you all become social media savvy and to learn tips and tricks along the way. For more information on what I do or if you are interested in any of my social media service: I offer 1:1 consultation calls, video editing, graphic design and more, you can follow @create.socialmedia on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com to book a call!

For the burgers ◆ 1kg lean beef mince (5% fat or less) ◆ 1 small onion, finely chopped ◆ 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce ◆ 2 garlic cloves, crushed ◆ 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley ◆ 4 x 60g wholemeal rolls, halved ◆ Lettuce leaves, tomato and cucumber, to serve

Ask Maeve!

Maeve from Total Cleaning Kerry tackles your top cleaning problems! Q: Hi Maeve, my floors are badly in need of some TLC – I have a build up of polish in some areas and the other areas look Completely dull and lifeless. Help... Olivia

Olivia- don’t despair. You need 3 simple products. 4 including patience. (1) A floor product to strip away the build up of polish -apply with cool-tepid water (2) A deck scrub to agitate same (3) A nice high gloss polish to reapply at the end. General advice is apply 2 light coats of polish instead of 1 heavy one which can often result in an uneven finish.

Method Preheat your oven to 200°C/fan 180°C/gas 6. First boil the chips in a saucepan of boiling water over a high heat for 5 minutes. Drain, return to the pan and shake to roughen the edges a bit. Tip the chips into a non-stick baking tray, season lightly and spray with low-calorie cooking spray. Toss well, arrange in a single layer and bake for 25 minutes or until golden. Meanwhile, make the burgers. Put the beef, onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and parsley in a food processor, season lightly and blend until just combined. Transfer to a bowl, divide into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a burger. Preheat your grill to high. Spray the burgers with low-calorie cooking spray and grill for 3-4 minutes on each side or until cooked to your liking. Fill the rolls with the burgers and plenty of lettuce, tomato and cucumber. Serve hot with the chips.

Q: Hi Maeve, my vacuum cleaner looks like its on its last legs. The suction is really poor and there’s an unpleasant odour coming from it? (Did I mention I have 2 dogs and a cat??)... Sally Sally sounds like your vacuum needs a full MOT! A regular service on your vacuum will do it the world of good! Cleaning out the filters and motor will improve the suction and overall performance ! And yes as much as we love our pets, all the hair will have a few unpleasant side effects. Again with pets regular cleaning of the filters and putting an air freshener into the bag of your vacuum is a must!

POSITIVE STEPS FORWARD

We have started to see some of our daily routines return over the past few weeks. We are now in a very welcome position where we can start to make some plans for the weeks ahead (even if they may be subject to change!). We are now getting out and about more and interacting with more people and socialising. For some, this is great but for others it may be a little overwhelming. Of course, it is important to continue protecting ourselves physically i.e social distancing, hand washing etc, but it is also important to support ourselves emotionally if we are feeling anxious or stressed. Ensure you are getting good quality sleep as this is essential for the central nervous system, helping you to cope better with everyday stresses. If you find it difficult to switch off at night or fall asleep consider taking a MAGNESIUM SUPPLEMENT a couple of hours before bed. There are also some excellent sleep remedies available such as MELISSA DREAM, DORMEASAN, SLEEP EASE and KALMS NIGHT.

TRALEE ADVERTISER

If stress or anxiety is an issue there are some very effective herbal remedies which can help. Some of which include, ASHWAGANDA, RHODIOLA, L-THEANNINE and PASSIFLORA. The essential oils and flower remedies also have a very positive effect on our emotional health and can be a very good alternative to taking remedies. You can use them in a diffuser or oil burner around the home/ work place and benefit from inhaling the positive medicinal properties. Some oils which offer a calming, balancing effect include, LAVENDER, BERGAMOT,CLARY SAGE, FRANKINCENSE and SANDLEWOOD. Some of these natural remedies may not be suitable with certain medications, however, we will advise you in store. Until next time, stay healthy

EV HOME CHARGER GRANT NOW AVAILABLE TO COMPANY CAR USERS

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) this week announced that company car users can now apply for the EV Home Charger Grant. This now means that electric passenger vehicles owned or leased for an employee are eligible for the grant. The current scheme provides a grant up to the value of €600 towards the purchase and installation of a home charger unit. The company vehicle must be primarily parked overnight at the employee’s place of residence. Commenting on this development Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan TD said: “We have set a very ambitious target of almost a million electric vehicles on the road by 2030 to help us meet our climate goals and reduce air pollution at the same time. It’s very encouraging to see the rapid increase in EV sales. We particularly want to encourage companies to switch to electric and make their businesses more sustainable. We are making it easier and more attractive to do that by extending the home charger grant to employees who need to use a company car for business purposes.” Declan Meally, Director Business, Public Sector and Transport at SEAI said: “This development will further facilitate those who drive company cars and those businesses who are working towards reducing their carbon footprint by switching their company passenger vehicles to EVs. Home charging is convenient, cost effective and environmentally friendly. Today it accounts for 80% of EV charging sessions and we see that continuing into the future.” Company car users may apply online for the Home Charger grant on the SEAI website: https://www.seai.ie/grants/electric-vehicle-grants/electric-vehicle-homecharger-grant/

NEW DACIA DUSTER FACELIFT LAUNCHED WITH FRESH STYLING AND MORE TECH

A facelifted version of the Dacia Duster SUV has been launched for 2021. The revised model will go on sale later this summer, sporting a few styling changes and a little more technology, which the brand hopes will keep the car ahead of other budget offerings, such as the MG ZS.Dacia hasn’t yet confirmed the new Duster’s pricing or trim-level structure, but we expect the car will stay close to its current value proposition. As such, the most basic version should be priced from around £11,500 in the UK. Styling updates include a new radiator grille and some fresh headlamps, which share the same Y-shaped LED daytime running lights as the latest Sandero. There’s also a new rear spoiler and some redesigned alloy wheels, sized at either 16 or 17 inches. Dacia says all of these updates have been designed to make the revised Duster slightly more aerodynamic than its predecessor. They’re coupled with some efficiency tweaks, (such as lower friction wheel bearings and new tyres), and contribute to a 5.8g/km reduction in CO2 emissions on the four-wheel drive model. The Duster’s interior has received a more noticeable redesign, with Dacia introducing new upholstery and slimmer headrests, which Dacia says are more ergonomic and allow better visibility. Buyers also get a little more standard equipment across the range. Every variant features a trip computer display, auto main beam activation and a speed limiter. Climate control, cruise control, heated front seats and keyless entry are also available. Dacia has fitted a new eight-inch infotainment system, too, which can be specified with two tiers of supporting technology. The first, called Media Display, adds a six-speaker stereo, a DAB radio, bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition and a pair of USB sockets. The Media Display pack also includes wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while Media Nav-equipped cars get an integrated sat-nav system and wireless smartphone connectivity. There is still a diesel option in the range – the 113bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder dCi 115. It’s available with a six-speed manual gearbox only, but buyers get a choice of either front or four-wheel drive. Dacia will also continue to offer the car with an LPG-compatible powertrain, called Bi-Fuel. Friday 25th June 2021

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE !

THE LOCAL CIRCUS HAS HAD THE SAME SHOW ON FOR A LONG WHILE NOW

Less and less people are coming to see it, as they all know the routine by now. One day the circus director is approached by a stranger. The strangers says: “Hey, I’ve got just what you need to save this circus!” “And what is that?” asks the circus director. “I’ve got a cat that plays guitar and a dog that sings”. The circus director finds that hard to believe, but sure enough the next day the stranger brings along the cat and dog, and the cat plays guitar while the dog sings. In no time the circus is more popular than ever before, and tons of people come every day to see the cat and dog perform. “Thank you so much!” says the circus director to the stranger. “You gotta tell me the secret, though. I mean this can’t possibly be real?” The stranger replies: “Alright, I’ll tell you what’s really going on: the cat is playing guitar AND singing, the dog’s just moving his mouth.”

I ASKED MY WIFE OF 25 YEARS IF SHE’D STILL LOVE ME IF I DIDN’T HAVE ANY MONEY.

She thought about it and nodded with a smile. “Yes, of course I still would love you. I would MISS you, but still love you.

TWO GENTLEMEN MEET FOR A DUEL...

The first gentleman, who challenged the other after being humiliated, is a man of honor. “I am the one who has challenged you. As such, I shall allow you to choose our weapons.” He opens a case with two swords and two guns. “Would you like to duel with swords, or guns?” The second gentleman is trained with a sword, and knows that his opponent is skilled with a firearm. As such, he chooses to give himself the advantage. “I choose to duel with swords!” The challenger nods at this choice. “Very well then.” He hands both swords to his opponent. “Here are your swords. That just leaves me with the guns.”

CAN YOU BELIEVE I WAS THROWN OUT OF MY CHURCH FOR CLAIMING JESUS SPOKE WITH A LISP? It was a real slap in the faith.

DOCTOR,” SAID THE RECEPTIONIST OVER THE PHONE,

“there’s a patient here who thinks he’s invisible.” “Well, tell him I can’t see him right now.”

I PHONED THE LOCAL GYM AND I ASKED IF THEY COULD TEACH ME HOW TO DO THE SPLITS. He said, “How flexible are you?” I said, “I can’t make Tuesdays or Thursdays.”

A MAN HOLDING A SLAB OF ASPHALT WALKED INTO A BAR

He said “I’ll take two beers, one for me and one for the road”

MY GRANDFATHER TOLD ME HOW HE TRIED AND TRIED TO WARN PEOPLE THAT TITANIC WILL SINK.

He continued shouting until he was finally kicked out of the cinema!

A MEXICAN MAGICIAN SAYS HE WILL DISAPPEAR ON THE COUNT OF 3. HE SAYS coffee morning “UNO, DOS...” *POOF* He disappeared without a tres.

ADVERTISING TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER 32 PREMIUM EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES! 3. The Tralee side led 0-13 to 0-04 at the break and it finished 3-18 to 1-11. Summer Camp -We are now taking bookings for the four day summer camp starting on Monday the 19th July, 10 to 1pm. The camp is open to boys and girls age 6 to 14. with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR SO MUCH DONE RIGHT BUT NOT HAVING CROWDS AT GAMES THIS WEEKEND IS WRONG: Firstly there is no doubt that the Government, NPHET, the HSE, frontline workers and the hundreds of volunteers in every county did so much right during the last 18 months of the Covid pandemic. And yes there are some more important issues around like the reopening of indoor dining and drinking, the return of our much missed local musicians and especially for a county like Kerry the return of international travel. Of course there are still the various variants still circulating like the Delta variant – which seems to be more transmissible but thankfully does not lead to more serious illness or hospitalisation. However the vaccine roll-out has gone very well and the numbers with Covid in Kerry have been very low. And all the premises that are opened have been doing all that they can to ensure all their customers stay safe. And this also extends to sports grounds who have welcomed small numbers of fans back. Therefore when you see what is going on in other countries with full stadiums at the Euros, at the US Open and at other events why have we not got to the stage where more fans can attend our games. Yes things are slowly opening – I was an FAI Match Delegate at Turners Cross last week when 600 fans attended the Cork City v Cabinteely game and everything with the precision expected. There were 1000 at Tallaght Stadium also as a test game and again this went off with no problems. This weekend some fans will be back – there will be 1000 at the Curragh for the derby. 3000 fans will be in the Aviva next month when Japan and the US take on Ireland. If you can do 3,000 then you can do 10,000? But surely for the start of the GAA Championship 25% of the capacity of the various stadiums should be allowed in. The Kerry Ladies are in Croke Park for their Division 2 League final as a double header with the Division 1 encounter of the big two Cork and Dublin. So surely 20,000 should be allowed there. Kerry are in Killarney for their Munster Championship opener with Clare and why not have between 8,000 to 10,000 in the Fitzgerald Stadium and say 5,000 allowed in to the Joe McDonagh opener for the Kerry hurlers in Austin Stack Park? At smaller grounds 100 can attend and this just about covers local games while it is also great that parents will be able to see Kerry’s first 14’s National League of Ireland game when Cork City come to Christy Leahy Park on Saturday evening. For the Euro’s game in Denmark they tested all the fans, gave people a time frame to come to the stadium to avoid Friday 25th June 2021

crowds and also staggered the times of people leaving from the various areas of the grounds. I am sure similar protocols are in place for all the other venues including Wembley Stadium. In the times we are in fans will take the extra time to get in and out of the ground and will accept being tested just to be able to get into big games. But while it is too late for this weekend hopefully it is only a matter of time that turn-styles will be open to all large numbers of fan into the games. If other countries can do it safely for all parties involved there is no reason why we can’t do it in this country. There is no doubt that we have a lot of uncertainty swirling around and the Government must show leadership. After all there must be some benefit for the public who have received over 4 million doses of the various vaccines with the 30’s cohort now registering for their first jab. ST BRENDAN’S HURLING CLUB NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 4,5,13 and 26 and the next jackpot will be e7,900. It runs from 9.30am to 1pm each day and cost e50 per players or e80 for a family. All comers are welcome on the day. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: There was a great win for the seniors in the opening round of the County League Division 1 defeating Legion 3-11 to 0-11. On July 3rd they will play their next game at home to Rathmore. In Division 5B Cordal defeated the B team and they face Ballylongford away on July 3rd. The Minor County League was a cracker with the Tralee boys just beating Kilcummin 1-15 to 1-14. They played Laune Rangers in midweek. All the underage sides enjoyed another good days training. The u12’s just lost out to Castleisland Desmonds while the u14’s went down to Listowel Emmets. The u16’s opened their competitive season going down to ISG. The senior Ladies put in a great effort but in the end Annascaul / Castelgregory were just too strong at the end of the game. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 2,9,12 and 18 and the next jackpot will be e8,800. KERRY BROTHERS ON IRISH BASKETBALL SQUAD: Ireland u18 basketball head coach Paul Kelliher has named his final squad for the FIBA European Challenge 2021 which will take place in Levice, Slovakia from August 28th. Bulgaria and Hungary are in Ireland’s group with Romania, Ukraine, Switzerland and the hosts in the other group. Sean and Tim attend Mercy Mounthawk and play with Tralee Imperials and Garvey’s Tralee Warriors. ANOTHER RECORD FOR ELAINE: Having swam the English Channel one would think that Elaine Burrows Dillane would be taking it easy. However for someone as driven as the Tralee native and Fenit swimming legend she is always looking for the next record.

Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

And last week she broke another record – the Galway Bay 12km swim. She headed out across Galway Bay at 7am and while the weather was good at the Aughinish side for the first 2km is became much harder for her final 10km. And not even a broken finger, seals or jellyfish would deter Elaine as she recorded an incredible time of 2 hours 56 minutes especially when swimming cross tides. Her time is a new women’s record beating the last one set in 2011 by 3 minutes. Well done to Elaine on another record and we be keeping an eye out for the next challenge she takes on. SUMMER CAMP AT CHRISTY LEAHY PARK: St Brendan’s Park FC will once again host the FAI Summer Soccer Camp under the current Covid Compliance protocols. This will start on Monday 26th July and runs until Friday 30th July with a goalkeeping camp taking place as well. Booking is essential. It’s a busy time for the club as they host the Kerry 14’s National Underage League of Ireland clash with Cork City at 6pm on Saturday night. UNDERAGE LEAGUE OF IRELAND IS BACK: It is a busy summer for both the Kerry Schoolboys Girls League and the Kerry District League as their summer competitions continue this week. However all involved in soccer is delighted that this season’s EA Sports Underage National League of Ireland finally kick-off. As well as the Kerry 14’s fixture outlined above the Kerry 17’s are away to Klub Kildare on Saturday at 3.30pm while the u19’s go to the AUL in Dublin on Sunday to take on Shelbourne.
