HELLo everyone! & welcome back to this brand new weekly column, 'Create with Rebecca', a page where I will be talking ALL things social media! (yaaaaaaay!). This column will be especially helpful for those in business looking to navigate the world pf social media for their business. I will be simplifying EVERYTHING as well as giving my top tips. Oh, by the way... I can edit videos, advise you on social media & create a new vibe for your brand! (Aka video editor, social media consultant & graphic designer) - so I know what I'm talking about!

Can I still make a YouTube Channel? Is it too late? -

My big specialty when it comes to social media is YouTube. I love YouTube, I think mostly because it is the social media where you can connect most with people and really get to know them. I have spent years learning all about YouTube, the algorithm, how to get monetized, the tags, thumbnails, all of it. I have watched countless creators and taught myself how to edit videos, cook rice perfectly and marveled at Ted Talks, all on YouTube. YouTube has been around for a long time, so much so that a lot of people think it's 'too late' to create a channel, which is totally wrong. YouTube has 2 billion active users, more than a quarter of the world's population uses YouTube. And also, unlike Instagram, once you reach 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours YouTube actually pays you per view. The beauty of YouTube is that you can create a video about anything you want, and there will be an audience for it. So, take it from me, if you've always wanted to have a YouTube channel, go for it! I know what holds most people back is starting, confusion and of course, the editing. But... I actually offer a full YouTube package which includes, video editing, SEO, titles, thumbnails, video uploading and monitoring of the back end and analytics, so if you're interested in that - message me over on IG @create.socialmedia or email rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com.

I hope you are as excited as I am for this new weekly Social Media column! I am excited to help you all become social media savvy and to learn tips and tricks along the way. For more information on what I do or if you are interested in any of my social media service: I offer 1:1 consultation calls, video editing, graphic design and more, you can follow @create.socialmedia on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com to book a call!

Are you up for a great Charity Cycle Event this September? Kerry Samaritans and Kerry Hospice Foundation are hosting a charity cycle event on Saturday 25th September. The launch which took place on last week at Blennerville, kick-started what is set to be a busy run up of preparations for the event. Like many organisations, the Covid19 pandemic has had a severe impact on the voluntary sector. This impact has affected both organisations in many ways, most especially in relation to their fundraising capabilities.

Both Kerry Samaritans and Kerry Hospice Foundation are reliant solely on donations to keep their services running. It is hoped that the cycle event will not only raise awareness of their services but also raise vital revenue for the continued operation of both charities. There will be two routes around the Dingle peninsula, beginning and ending in Tralee: Route A (Challenging event) John Mitchels GAA Complex Ballyseedy Tralee, Blennerville, Curraheen, Camp, Conor

Pass, Dingle, Annascaul, Inch, Castlemaine, Tralee (120 kms) and Route B (Leisure event) John Mitchels GAA Complex Ballyseedy Tralee, Blennerville, Curraheen, Camp, Annascaul, Inch, Castlemaine, Tralee (72 kms). As well as the usual refreshment stops along the routes, at the end of the event there will be an openair barbecue and music for all participants at the John Mitchels GAA Complex,

10 KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

Your Property queries answered... By Tommy Carmody’s Property House Hello Tommy - “I am considering selling a home which has been left to myself and 3 siblings. We are all overseas and a little bit confused and stressed by the process of selling a home in Ireland at present. How should we go about this? “ Michael , Killorglin “Thank you for reaching out. Firstly, do no not stress. Secondly, the sales process does not have to be complicated. The first step would be to get a licensed estate agent in the locality who will give you an accurate valuation on the home. If yourself and your siblings are happy with the valuation it is time for your agent to prepare a marketing and advertising strategy to ensure the property achieves the valuation price. I would strongly urge you to contact a solicitor at

this stage, prior to going to market, to ensure they have deeds of the home available or requested from the bank so they can draft contracts. They will also outline what paper work you may need such as planning certs, certs of compliance and Revenue related obligations. It is a good idea to use a solicitor who is not planning on going away on holidays over the next 4 months or so! Prior to professional photography/videography being carried out I would urge you to have the home decluttered, spring cleaned, minor issues in the home addressed and if required the cosmetic appearance of the home improved through painting internally and having the gardens/driveway tidied up. First impressions are vital when potential purchasers

arrive to view and a certain lifestyle should be portrayed. Your target market varies depending on the type of the home being sold. A BER assessor will be needed to complete a BER Cert to determine the energy efficiency of the home. Once the home is advertised, viewings will commence and will continue until such a stage that you have received a suitable offer from a willing purchaser who is financed approved whether that be through mortgage approval or cash, and they lodge a booking deposit and supply solicitor details. You will then be sale agreed… At this stage it is important that your agent keeps in regular contact with the solicitors to ensure there are no unnecessary delays. It will take on average 6 – 12 weeks for the sale to close

from this stage – allowing for the purchasers’ surveyor and valuer to call to the home and paperwork to be completed by the solicitors. We would be delighted to give you call to discuss the above in more detail whenever suits yourself and your siblings... Tommy 087-7060530

It is not difficult to sell a home in todays market but to ensure your property achieves its ultimate value it is important to go the extra mile so your home stands out from competing homes. Do not just stick the home up online without being conscious of your target market and insist on regular updates from your chosen agent throughout the process. It is the least you deserve.

'Are you sold on us?'

SuperValu, & the GAA, launch their ‘Bring It On‘ Diversity Campaign Research published by SuperValu as part of its ‘Bring It On’ GAA campaign, has found that the 65% of respondents believe that diversity and inclusion in the GAA will have benefits for the wider community. As part of the campaign SuperValu, together with the GAA, is announcing their commitment to increasing participation among people from diverse backgrounds in

GAA sports by 30% by 2025. The research, which was carried out by Amarach Research on behalf of SuperValu, also showed; • 85% would like to see more players from a diverse background on their inter county teams. • 47% feel that we are lacking role models from diverse communities in the GAA, 58% believe that sporting organisations in general are representative Friday 9th July 2021

and mirroring of the true diversity in today’s modern Ireland. Irish society is most inclusive towards age (48%) and gender (49%) while ethnic and disability lag behind in terms of importance at 17% and 19% respectively showing that we have work to do on moving the dial on our approach to inclusivity as a society. LGBT+ is rated at 34% showing that we have moved the dial in recent years with more to be done.

SuperValu also commissioned its own customer research for insights on this campaign and found that 99% of us believe that a diverse society is a better society. While respondents believe in the benefits of greater diversity and inclusion, the main barriers cited stopping members of

diverse groups from getting involved in sports is perceived to be prejudice and/ or discrimination. SuperValu’s ‘Bring It On’ campaign aims to highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in the GAA, and ultimately, the power of diversity in community. SuperValu Marketing Director, Ray Kelly, said: “Today marks SuperValu’s 12th year of sponsoring the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, a long-standing partnership which we are incredibly proud of. At SuperValu, we believe in community and in making communities better places and for us community means including everyone. As a society we have come a long way when it comes to diversity and inclusion however there is still a way to go. Our research shows that 65% of respondents believe

if the local GAA club is more diverse and inclusive it will also improve diversity and inclusivity within communities. Today’s research also highlights the importance of role models with 47% telling us that we are lacking role models from diverse communities in GAA. We want to use our position as a leader in the community to start this conversation and use our position to support and encourage inclusive communities. At the launch event, SuperValu also unveiled its new TV advertisement which includes a number of ambassadors who shared their own positive experiences of inclusivity in the GAA TRALEE ADVERTISER

This week, I caught up with Anna Falvey at the new look Blue Door Outside space in the Brandon Hotel (Coffee was great guys !)Some of our readers might know Anna from her previous position in the Spirit Gym at the Rose Hotel. Anna, how long were you at Spirit Gym? I was there for 5 years as a Gym Instructor so I had many friends in there , both in the Hotel, members and hotel guests. But just recently, in June, I have taken the brave step and opened my own business “Anna Falvey Fitness“ which involves Personal Training on a One to One basis. Fitness and Health.

A CHAT ON THE STREET WITH... Was it always a passion of yours, Anna? Yes from a very young age I have always been active. And when I moved to Ireland from Poland, I noticed that people were always looking to stay healthy and fit but a lot of people struggled with the motivation .So I continued my studies and I will also next month , have received my full qualifications as a Nutritionist . I strongly believe this goes hand in hand with Fitness and good health. So as a Personal Fitness Trainer ,what do you offer that’s a little different? The way I see it , Covid has turned a lot of things upside down and a lot of people have gone off track a little ,So I

can now offer people the full package of Good Fitness , Good Nutritional advice and also because it goes hand in hand , good Health ...what I mean is , I see the way peoples health , movement , form etc improves when they focus more on themselves .Its not all about the big weight loss , the running 5km under 30 mins ...its often the simple improvements that have the most effect on peoples lives . That hour of personal training in the day can really set up the remaining 23 hours ! And how does PT work with you ? Well initially people come to me as I have a Fitness Suite here in the Rose Hotel and we do the initial assessment and

consultation . And then we assign one of my PT packages to whatever suits them best. Normally this is a 6 week program but we are constantly assessing . And what has the feedback been like ? Well I am delighted to say that a good majority of my current clients want to continue working with me after their 6 weeks are up. And why is that do you think, Anna? I think its because they are already seeing changes and seeing results , says Anna with a little smile . (For more information about Anna Falvey Fitness , contact Anna on 087-7645065 or visit her Facebook page)

Watch out in next weeks issue as I do “A Chat on the Street“ with Adam and Thomas... 2 guys who are shaking up the cycling world!

Turner’s Bar is Back But What About Their Famous Irish Coffee By Georgina Downes It’s great to see businesses coming back after lockdown but locals in Castle Street have an extra reason to be cheerful this week as their favourite pub, Turner’s Bar, a long-established favourite in Tralee, reopens full time. Lockdown threw up a few new experiences for pub owner Aiden Turner. He found himself home-schooling his children Amie and AJ which, he concedes, wasn’t easy.

Friday 9th July 2021

“My wife Sarah was working. I found the schooling thing difficult all right,” he laughs. “It was a busy time. I was doing football runs and a good bit of cooking too.” “We opened our doors again this week; the first time since September last year, and we couldn’t be happier,” Aiden says. Generous Neighbours “There’s a lovely seating area at the front of the pub, right on the street,

where punters can enjoy a pint and watch the world go by. We also have a large area at the back, thanks to our neighbour who has generously donated some extra space in the yard. We managed to hold on to our old staff too. We’re hoping to team up with a local food business very soon so we can offer pub lunches in the future.” That all sounds great but what I want I really want to know, and I’m sure your

punters want to know this too: are you still serving your famous Irish Coffee, the one made with whipped cream from Kerry cows; sweetened with local, organic honey, with a measure of Roe & Co Irish whiskey, blended with mellow spun sugar, a hint of spiced pears and a touch of vanilla? “Yes.” Excellent.

KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

HELLO YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!

This week I am going to talk about being happy in yourself.

HAPPINESS COMES FROM WITHIN Right, so... I've been staring at this semi blank page, thinking about whether or not to talk about this this week, and how I should go about it. But I feel like creating content is therapeutic for me, so here we go. This week, my boyfriend that lived with me, moved back home and so did my friends. Which means that I am in a country miles away from home, alone. No friends *yet* & no relationship to lean on. And you know what? I'm totally fine with that. Because I don't rely on anyone but myself for happiness. Over the years I have learned that it is so so important to love yourself first and not only that but to be completely happy in yourself as opposed to looking for happiness in someone else. Nobody else has the power to 'make you happy' like you can. Think about it, as long as you love yourself, are content with who you are and know exactly how to maintain your own happiness, then everyone else is just a bonus. And if that bonus person leaves, that doesn't take away from your happiness. You have to be your best friend. I know, you might be thinking, but my husband / wife / best friend / sister / whoever, makes me SO happy, no, they make you feel good, but the only person who should have the true power to make you happy is yourself. Giving someone a responsibility to make you happy when you can't do it for yourself is selfish - let that sink in. Of course you can share your happiness with someone, but don't let them be the source.

Has this page sparked something inside of you? Are you dying to unlock the most confident version of yourself? Well... I do 1:1 online confidence coaching where you can work with me on your confidence for 8 weeks. if you are interested in Confidence Coaching, you can follow @theconfidencegame on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com For more information on what I do or if you are interested in Confidence Coaching, you can follow @theconfidencegame on instagram or email me: rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com for more information about 1:1 coaching, group coaching or masterclasses!

HEALTHY RECIPES TRALEE ADVERTISER

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2021

Did you know Scallops are called ‘The Queen of the Sea‘?

Scallops oh yes, they are called the Queen of the Sea. These are little morsels of flavour and so sweet . We see them as a delicacy, an absolute joy to eat! here is how to do them, simply but in the correct way ...Enjoy! 1. DRY, SEASON, AND PREPARE THE SCALLOPS First, decide how many scallops you’re going to cook—we generally count on about three large scallops per serving, though some people will certainly eat two servings in a meal. Make sure that you buy dry scallops, not wet scallops (which have chemical additives). Note: Dry scallops still contain some excess moisture, so you need to dry them further. Line a baking sheet with a kitchen towel and place the scallops on top. Then, add another kitchen towel on top and pat them before letting them sit just like that for 10 minutes. During that time, the towels will absorb the moisture. (Getting rid of the moisture is essential for achieving that ideal golden crust during the sauté step.) Sprinkle your scallops generously with salt and black pepper or your seasoning of choice. Feel free to dive into your spice cupboard and try a little cumin, garam masala, or smoked paprika, or go with lemon zest, lime zest, or Parmesan. Remember, you can also add more flavor later, after cooking, so going simple here is fine. 2. SEAR THE SCALLOPS Pick a cast iron pan. Make sure your pan is big enough to fit the number of scallops you’re cooking—you want to make sure you can get them all in the pan in a single layer with plenty of space between each. Before you put the scallops in, swirl a bit of oil onto the pan and heat over medium-high heat until it’s very hot and shimmering. Then, using tongs, gently place your seasoned scallops in the pan and DO NOT

TOUCH THEM until they are deeply golden brown on one side, about three minutes for an average-size scallop

then remove from heat and pull out the aromatics. Add just a bit more cold butter to finish and some fresh herbs if you like.

3. BASTE THE SCALLOPS WITH BUTTER AND AROMATICS Flip your scallops carefully and add a few little pieces of cold butter to the pan (a bit more than you think you should, you won’t regret it) along with an aromatic of choice. You could use a dried chile pepper or a sprig of fresh herbs or some capers or a slice of citrus. Again, this is the fun part of not following an exact recipe—you can choose whatever ingredient you think would best complement your seasoning. Use a large spoon to baste the scallops with the butter continuously while they finish cooking, one to two minutes longer. Be careful not to overcook your scallops: If your scallops are on the small side, it may not take as long for them to cook through. You may want to slice one sacrificial scallop in half to check: The flesh near the top and bottom edges should look opaque, but there should still be a faintly translucent strip in the middle when you take the scallops off the heat.

Pour the sauce around the scallops on your plate and you’ve got a showstopping buttery scallop dish ready to serve. And best of all, you can say it’s your own creation—I won’t mind

4. MAKE A PAN SAUCE Pull the scallops from the pan and set them on your serving plate. Then add a splash of liquid to the butter in the pan: You could use lemon juice, white wine, chicken or vegetable stock, dry vermouth, orange juice, etc., depending on what flavor you think would work best with your seasoning and basting ingredients. Give the sauce a good stir over medium heat,

Let me know if you enjoyed them and we will continue our healthy eating next week and remember to send your quetions to: askchefnoel@hotmail.com

NEW 2021 BMW 2 SERIES COUPE LAUNCHED WITH 369BHP

The new BMW 2 Series Coupe has been revealed. It’ll go on sale in the UK early in 2022 priced from £34,980. Unlike the four-door 2 Series Gran Coupe, which is based on the brand’s UKL platform, the two-door Coupe is built on the same platform as the 3 Series and 4 Series, so rear and four-wheel drive are offered, while six-cylinder power features in the range-topping M240i. The new car is longer, wider and lower than its predecessor, while its weight has been trimmed down thanks to the use of more aluminium in its construction. All UK and Irish cars will be available only in M Sport trim, which adds a sporty looking front apron, dark gloss exterior trim and dark metallic finishes on the lower sections of the skirts and rear diffuser, while 18-inch wheels will be standard. The M240i version will look sportier still, with more aggressive bodywork, a rear lip spoiler, 19-inch wheels and a dual-exit exhaust. The dashboard shares much with the 4 Series, with buyers getting the same 12.3-inch central screen and 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, which has been loaded with specific M Sport graphics. Elsewhere in the cabin, there’s M-branded treadplates, pedals and floor mats, as well as an M-specific anthracite headliner. The 2 Series Coupe range kicks off with the petrol-powered 220i. It uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit, which develops 181bhp and 300Nm, and achieves 0–62mph in 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 146mph. Diesel power remains in the line-up with the 220d model. It’s priced from £36,900 and gets 187bhp and 400Nm of torque courtesy of a 2.0-litre fourcylinder turbo diesel engine. The extra torque cuts the car’s 0–62mph time to 6.9 seconds, although top speed stays the same at 147mph.Thanks to a new 48volt mild-hybrid system, the 220d claims up to 60.1mpg and between 122 and 132g/km of CO2.Purists needn’t fret about the new four-wheel drive system, either, as BMW has stressed that the M240i’s drivetrain will be heavily rearbiased. It also comes with an electronically locking M Sport differential on the rear axle, which the firm says will allow for “easily controllable drift manoeuvres.” To cope with the extra power, the M240i gets a few more chassis tweaks, such as M Sport brakes, extra chassis bracing and a wider front and rear track. Adaptive M suspension and electronically controlled dampers can also be specified as an optional extra.

NEW 2022 LOTUS EMIRA STARTS BOLD NEW ERA FOR BRITISH BRAND

We’ve been waiting to see how Lotus would transform its line-up under its new Chinese owner – and here’s the first example of the brand’s new vision: the Lotus Emira. The all-new mid-engined model will mix Lotus’s traditional lightweight approach with cutting-edge tech when it reaches customers next spring. It uses the brand’s fresh Sports Car Architecture – a further evolution of the bonded aluminium chassis structure that made its debut on the original Elise, but with different dimensions, so it will weigh from as little as 1,405kg. And it will be offered with four- and six-cylinder power. The looks of the new model, created by Lotus’s chief designer Russell Carr, mix cues from the allelectric Evija hypercar with nods to previous models. The Emira is 4,412mm long and 1,895mm wide – around 20mm longer and 10mm wider than the Evora. At the front, vertical LED headlights sit at either side of a bonnet that incorporates exit vents to help channel airflow over the car. The rear brings elements from the Evija – in particular, the deep scallops in the bumper – along with an integrated spoiler that harks back to the first Elise. On the whole, the car has a complex, aggressive stance, delivering on the traditional Lotus approach of “functional aesthetics”.There will be a choice of two engines. The more potent unit is a familiar one – the 3.5-litre supercharged V6 from Toyota that was previously used in the Evora and Exige. This will form the basis of the ‘First Edition’ models that will lead the car’s launch; Lotus dealers are taking deposits now, and first deliveries should arrive in spring 2022.Lotus hasn’t issued specific outputs yet, but it says the Emira will offer between 355bhp and 395bhp. The V6 is likely to be the more potent of the engines at launch. The Emira will be rear-wheel drive only and offered with a choice of manual and automatic gearboxes on the V6, and a dual-clutch auto only on the 2.0-litre model. The car will hit 62mph in less than four seconds and reach up to 180mph, while its CO2 emissions will start at less than 180g/km.The car’s interior marks even more of a change for Lotus – and it’s arguably here where owner Geely’s more lofty ambitions for the brand become evident. The driverfocused dashboard features a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and a 10.25inch central touchscreen infotainment system that incorporates Android and Apple integration. There are 208 litres of luggage space behind the two seats, and a further 151 litres in the boot behind the engine; Lotus says the second of these load bays can hold an aircraft cabin-compatible bag or a set of golf clubs. LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE !

A WOMAN COMES HOME LATE IN THE NIGHT AND GOES QUIETLY IN THE BEDROOM

To her surprise, she sees male and female feet peeking out from under the blanket. Shocked and raging, she gets her baseball bat and beats and beats until all movement stops. After that she goes into the living room and sees her husband laying on the sofa. He turns to her half asleep: “Oh, you’re home, darling. I’m afraid we have to sleep here tonight, My parents came for a surprise visit.”

BOSS, I’VE GOT A PROBL EM Boss: There’s no such thing as a problem. There are only opportunities. Man: Oh ok. Then I have a serious drug opportunity.

A MAN WALKED INTO A HARDWARE STORE AND PICKED UP A CAN OF FLY SPRAY “Is this good for wasps?” he asked the assistant. “No, it kills them.”

I TOOK OUR BODY WEIGHT SCALE OUT TO WEIGH MYSELF And after stepping on the scale I pulled in my stomach, to which my girlfriend reacted: “you know that doesn’t help at all”. I told her “sure it does, now I can see the numbers”

LAST NIGHT I RODE MY BIKE TO THE OFF LICENCE ... and bought a bottle of whisky. I put the bottle in the bike basket but before riding back I thought: what if I fall down for some reason? The bottle will break! So I drank the whole bottle of whisky before riding home. And thank God I did, because I must have fallen down about a dozen times before I got home.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR 3X3 BASKETBALL COMING TO TRALEE TOWN CENTRE: Basketball is a fast sport at the best of times but the 3x3 version of the game is even quicker and more exciting. And with the long tradition of basketball in Tralee the FIBA 3x3 event in the town centre should attract great crowds. There was no luck for the Kerry 19’s and 14’s who went down to Galway United and Waterford FC respectively. This weekend the Kerry 14’s were due to play away to Treaty United but that’s now a home game on Wednesday night.
