Medical Matters “DOCTOR, I AM TIRED ALL THE TIME” DR KAREN SOFFE Unexplained tiredness is one of the most common reasons for people to see their GP. It is so common that it has its own acronym, TATT, which stands for "tired all the time". We all feel tired from time to time. The reasons are usually obvious e.g. too many late nights, working long hours, a new baby. Tiredness or exhaustion that goes on for a long time or for no reason is not normal. Causes can include: • psychological • physical • lifestyle Psychological causes These are much more common than physical causes. They include: Stress: The strains of daily life can worry most of us at some point. Even positive events, such as moving house or getting married, can cause stress. Emotional upset: Bereavement, redundancy or a relationship break-up can make you feel tired and exhausted. Depression: If you feel sad, low or lacking in energy, or you are waking up early in the morning, and it is going on for more than a few weeks you may have depression. Anxiety: If you have constant uncontrollable feelings of anxiety, as well as feeling worried and irritable, you often feel tired. Physical causes There are several health conditions that can make you feel tired or exhausted including
• anaemia • underactive thyroid • diabetes • pregnancy – particularly in the first 12 weeks • being overweight or obese • being underweight – poor muscle strength can make you tire more easily • cancer treatments, such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy • carbon monoxide poisoning – especially if your gas boiler has not been serviced regularly • side effects of medicines and some herbal remedies • sleep apnoea Lifestyle The main lifestyle causes of tiredness include: • Too much alcohol • Too little exercise • Too much caffeine • Napping during the day If you have been feeling constantly tired for more than 4 weeks, it's a good idea to see your GP so they can confirm or rule out a medical or psychological condition that could be causing your tiredness.

Hundreds ‘live life’ at the Donal Walsh Spa 6K Challenge! The ‘Live Life’ spirit shone brightly in Spa last Sunday with close to 600 people turning out for the ‘Donal Walsh Spa 6K Challenge’ hosted by the local school. The family fun day was organised by the school community in honour of Donal, their past pupil. “We wanted to honour Donal and so the committee worked to create this special event where people would come together for a few hours, have fun and ‘live life’ just as Donal had urged us all to.” said school principal Peter Linehan. “This was the fifth hosting of the annual event and it was probably the most successful yet. Huge credit must go to our Parents Association team led by chairperson Rowena Savage who worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to ensure that everything would be ready”, added Peter. Close to six hundred people visited the school which was a hive of activity with a fabulous farmers market in operation. 2

Senior students hosted fun games and challenges for young and old to try out and enjoy all day long. The Parents Association had also organised a beautiful barbeque on site with teas and tasty treats also being served up as well. The students in 4th and 5th classes organised an exciting rocket launching competition which had the crowd gasping at every launch. Others chose to just chill out and soak up the great atmosphere. At the end of the day, street performer, Monsieur Gusto had everyone in stitches with his hilarious show. However, the main event of the day was the ‘Donal Walsh Spa 6K Challenge’ a looped run/walk starting and finishing at the school. Donal’s mother Elma Walsh officially started the run/walk. There was an electric atmosphere as young and not so young set off to tackle the course in ideal weather conditions. First home Friday 25th May 2018
in the men’s section was David Kennedy from Tralee. Cork man Ed Murphy finished a close second whilst Kilmoyley man Pádraig Regan came a very impressive third. Gillian scooped first place in the ladies section closely followed by local girl Ciara Tierney and Ardfert athlete, Emer O Sullivan landing third place.
Elma Walsh was thrilled with the event, “We are delighted to be back in Spa N.S. again, a place where Donal had so many happy days. Everyone had a really wonderful day and Donal would have loved it!”

MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Rights of fathers.
Liam is not married. He has a child Amy with his ex-partner Lucy who is now 5 years old. He and his partner get on very well and he has a good relationship with his daughter whom he sees regularly including every second weekend. He is wondering about his legal situation. Guardianship of children involves rights and duties in relation to a child. The rights are set out in the Children and Family Relationships Act 2015 and in case law and include the following: (a)To decide on the child’s place of residence (b) To make decisions regarding the child’s religious, spiritual, cultural and linguistic upbringing (c ) to decide with whom the child is to live (d) To consent to medical , dental and other health related treatment for the child (e) Under various enactments specified in SS12 such as passports (f) To place the child for adoption and consent to adoption of the child under the Adoption Act 2010. The duties of Guardianship involve looking after the all round welfare of the child in all its aspects e.g. physical, psychological, emotional, intellectual, social , religious and spiritual.Guardianship only lasts until a child is 18 years of age.If parents are married both parents are automatically guardians of the children. If the parents are unmarried then the mother is the sole guardian and custodian of the child unless the father applies for Guardianship or gets Guardianship by agreement with custody and access arrangements agreed between the parties or court ordered. Many unmarried fathers think because they are on the birth certificate that they are automatically have parental rights but this is not the case unless they lived with the mother after the 18/1/2016 for 12 months around the birth of the child including 3 months after the birth. This would not apply in Liam’s case as Amy was born before this date. Liam should try and get guardianship by agreement with Lucy and if she is not agreable he should contact his solicitor to discuss his options. Legal Quip: Fatherhood is pretending the present you like most is soap on a rope.

Fenit Diving Boards get the go ahead from Kerry County Council The Restore Fenit Diving Boards Campaign (RFDBC) delegation got the positive answer they wanted from Kerry County Council when they met with officials of Tralee Municipal District at Ă ras an Chontae, Rathass, Tralee on Friday , 18th April 2018. Municipal Manager Michael Scannell informed the meeting that Kerry County Council would give the project its full backing. Fenit Development Association, of which The RFDBC Committee is an accredited subcommittee, will apply to the Local Authority for planning permission for the project. The project will be entirely community based and subject to the standards and safety requirements of Kerry County Council and Irish Water Safety. Kerry County Council has pledged every possible advisory support during the design and construction of the diving boards. When the project has been completed, Kerry County Council will include the diving boards 4

in its foreshore licence and insurance cover, as well as maintaining the bathing slip to the highest standard. The five people who led the campaign and successfully negotiated with Kerry County Council – Liam Doyle, Paddy Kissane, Mike O Neill, John Edwards and Billy Ryle will continue to oversee the project right through to completion. It’s likely that the committee will be expanded to include, in particular, people with fund raising expertise. The entire cost of the project must be met through grant aid and local contribution. The RFDBC committee is delighted that Kerry County Council has sanctioned this project for the benefit of the people of Kerry and the many visitors, who generate much needed tourist revenue in the area. The new diving boards will be an entirely public freeto-use aqua-sports facility and will include disability access.
Friday 25th May 2018
The RFDBC Committee wishes to thank Manager Michael Scannell and his officials for the proactive endorsement of the project. The positive response from Kerry County Council means that Fenit can now look forward to the restoration of a much loved and badly missed sports and leisure facility. We are extremely grateful to our Architects and Engineering/ Environmental Consultants for the superb design of the diving boards. We are indebted to the general public for the
magnanimous support and goodwill for the campaign. We are very grateful to the local Public Representatives who immediately recognised the considerable social, economic, tourism and recreational value of the project along the North Kerry Wild Atlantic Way blue coastal route. In particular, we’d like to extend our sincere thanks to Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Norma Foley who was an excellent Chairperson, facilitator, honest-broker and liaison between the sides during the past few months.

Message from Sera Husky , Animal Rescue about the Swan & her family at Tralee Canal A lot of people may know of this swan in Tralee. As you can see her babies have hatched and seem to be doing well, her partner had sadly passed away from possible infection from a bite, its impossible to determine what may have bit him,Swans mate for life and not having her partner around would have made life difficult enough and she has done amazing. What is concerning is that she is nesting closer to the bank 8

than she normally would , so dogs off leads are a problem as there getting too close and the amount of unsuitable food been thrown in is really not needed. We at Sera Husky are making sure she’s been fed an appropriate food, high protein and fats to help her maintain her condition which will help her defend her young ones, and for now thats all she needs so please keep the scraps for something else . Also for a while Friday 25th May 2018
please keep dogs on a lead, its a crucial time for her and the fact she has to do everything on her own is stressful enough so the less interference the better, with a good camera you can get great photos without interfering as you can see, thanks to everyone for your cooperation. Maurice Enright

TECHNOLOGY CORNER with Billy O Meara (HRI Services)
Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology What is GDPR
Have you started receiving emails and letters from companies and organisations asking you to update your preferences and permissions on what they send you? This is because the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is changing how companies and individuals collect, store and share data about us. The new law will apply in all EU states from 25 May 2018. We now have more control over how organisations use our personal information, or data. Which is important, as data is big business Companies now need to use language that is easy to understand, and tell people they can opt out at any time.
Why is my data valuable and should I care
For many companies your information like Date of Birth, names, and address are very important because, some companies sell this data to advertiser so they can target their advertising for example when I place an advert on Facebook I get the option to select which age group I want to target. To be honest this is not a bad thing, it helps small business with a small budget to advertise. Always be careful with your personal Information. THINK BRFORE YOU TYPE
How to Un-Dub Some Netflix shows
If you sat down to watch The Rain recently on Netflix, you might be wondering why the dialogue does not quite fit with what the characters are saying. The first time you watch a foreign-language show, it will default to the dubbed version if there is one available, like on The Rain, 3%, Dark and others. If this happens and you want to watch it in its original language, click on the audio and subtitles button which looks a little bit like a speech bubble. Under the audio menu, you'll have to change from English to the original language of the show and if you didn't know what that was, there's a handy [Original] next to its native language. Then unless you actually speak that language, you'll have to click on English under the subtitles menu. Fortunately, if the show grabs you and you want to binge to the end, you'll only have to do this once per show.
Question I’m a full-time carer and getting Carer’s Allowance. Last year I got a Carer’s Support Grant – will I get it again this year? Answer The Carer’s Support Grant is an annual payment made to full-time carers. The payment for 2018 is €1,700. It is paid on the first Thursday of June each year. If you are still getting a carer’s payment on the first Thursday in June, the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP) will pay the grant to you automatically, and you don’t need to apply. People getting Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit or Domiciliary Care Allowance are paid the grant automatically. Full-time carers who are not getting one of these payments need to apply to the DEASP (unless they got the grant last year, in which case the Department will contact them about this year’s payment). To qualify, you must be ordinarily resident in the State and caring for someone on a full-time basis for at least six months (including the first Thursday in June) and living with the person being cared for (or, if not, be contactable quickly by a direct system of communication, for example, telephone or alarm). The person you are caring for must not normally live in a hospital, convalescent home or similar establishment. You won’t qualify if you are working, studying or training for more than 15 hours a week, getting Jobseeker’s Allowance or Jobseeker’s Benefit or signing on for credits. To apply, fill in one application form (form CSG1) for each person being cared for (a grant may be paid for each person). Forms are available on welfare.ie. You can apply for the 2018 grant until 31 December 2019.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Chamber Alliance meets Justice Minister to save Tralee Courthouse According to Aidan Daly , TCA....”THE Minister for Justice says he’s alarmed at the antiquated condition of the courthouse in Tralee and the fact that it has not been refurbished or upgraded for over 35 years.” Charlie Flanagan spent nearly an hour inspecting the building on Ashe Street in Tralee amid proposals from the Court Services to build a new courthouse on the outskirts of the town. Tralee Chamber Alliance, local politicians and the Kerry Law Society say such a move would have a devastating impact on the town centre economy and they are calling for the existing courthouse to be renovated. Minister for State and
Kerry TD, Brendan Griffin accompanied the Justice Minister on his visit to Tralee Courthouse where he met the President of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Aidan Kelly and was given a tour of the facility by Tralee solicitor and Councillor Pa Daly. They presented Minister Flanagan with a number of viable options that would lead to the continuation of court services at the current location in Tralee. These include the refurbishment of the Tralee Courthouse and the purchase or lease of some nearby buildings and land that would lead to the establishment of a practical and fully-functioning modern legal complex.
Billy gets to meet the Queen! Kerry man Billy Alexander has been awarded a Silver Gilt Medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the world’s most prestigious flower show for his ‘Wilde Atlantic Garden’. The garden showcases rare and exotic ferns grown and matured in Kerry at Kells Bay House and Gardens. The garden was named ‘The Wilde Atlantic Garden’ thanks to the very generous sponsorship and support by Wilde Aparthotels by Staycity. The theme of Billy’s exhibit this year was to give garden enthusiasts an example of his uniquely curated, densely matured and extensive treefern forest. Billy said: “I chose the tree-fern theme for this years’ show because I wanted
to display the significance of their preservation around the globe.” Billy went on to say: “We were truly honoured to be chosen to exhibit at Chelsea this year and winning the Silver Gilt medal was the icing on the cake. Our main objective was to showcase the magnificence and beauty of ferns from around the globe. The exhibit was revolved around the exotic, natural environment of the fern and their vital role in the evolution of plants.” Garden enthusiasts will have the chance to see Billy’s garden up close this year when he exhibits it at the Bloom in the Park festival, in Phoenix Park over the June Bank Holiday weekend.
Baz visits Sandy Feet Farm in Camp last weekend!! Surprise visit by Baz Ashmawy and his lovely family this morning...
Originally developed by the Blennerhasset family in the 19th Century, Kells Bay’s 44-acres of wildly overgrown *Robinsonian heritage gardens and ongoing restoration was started by Billy and his wife Penn in 2006. It is now a true piece of heaven on earth, containing some of the rarest and most exotic plant species in the world. Kells Bay House and Gardens has a truly unique localised climate which enables the growth of many exotic plant species, such as tree-ferns, to thrive. It also functions as a plant nursery and supplies a range of expertly nurtured and extremely rare species.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... What are anti-wrinkle injections? At the Clanmaurice Medical Practice we use Botox for anti-wrinkle injections. Botox is a protein produced in laboratories that has been used in cosmetic and aesthetic contexts since the 1990’s in order to reduce visible lines and facial wrinkles. Are anti-wrinkle injections safe? Anti-wrinkle injections are very safe due to the low concentration of the Botulinum toxin used in the injections. How do anti-wrinkle injections work? Anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking the nerve impulse to the muscles of your face that, over time, cause wrinkles and permanent lines to form. These muscles will gradually relax, giving your face a smoother look. What areas are suitable for treatment? Forehead lines, lines between eyebrows and crow’s feet. How does the treatment take place?
Before any treatment, you will have a full consultation with one of our skilled and qualified doctors. They will discuss your suitability for anti-wrinkle treatment and work out a personal treatment plan and goal for you. The treatment takes about 15 minutes during which a local anaesthetic is applied to the injections sites on your face. Once you are ready, small quantities of the Botox serum are injected. Who are anti-wrinkle treatments suitable for? Botox is suitable for a most people. However, this treatment should be avoided by anyone with muscle problems; nerve damage; or who is pregnant or breastfeeding. How long do anti-wrinkle treatments last? The treatment should last for around 3-4 months. As the substances contained in the injections are broken down and absorbed by the body, additional treatments will be necessary to maintain your youthful look. A plan for

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... A RECORD NUMBER of Blue Flags have been awarded this year, with Kerry topping the list again with 14. 83 beaches and seven marinas were awarded Blue Flags, an increase of two since 2017, An Taisce announced this week Donegal came in just behind Kerry with 13 Blue Flags, followed closely by Mayo with 12. The counties with the fewest flags were Sligo with one and Dublin with only two. When the first awards were presented in 1988 only 21 flags were awarded. Beaches that receive this accolade adhere to specific criteria related to water quality, information provision, environmental education, safety and site management. The Blue Flag will be raised for the first time at Carne
in County Wexford and at Ardmore in County Waterford for the first time since 1997. 59 Green Coast awards were also presented, two fewer than 2017. The Green Coast awards focus on community involvement and encourage local authorities to work together with local communities in the management of sites. Cork received 13 Green Coast Awards, making it the most awarded county this year, with nine blue flags awarded also. Having not met the excellent water quality standard required, Mornington in Meath, Port Arthur in Donegal, Waterville Town Beach in Kerry and Kilfarrassey in
Waterford, did not receive a Green Coast Award for 2018. To achieve the award, beaches must also have excellent water quality and have effective and appropriate management to ensure the protection of the natural
environment. Local Authorities, marina operators and local communities should be commended for their efforts in achieving Blue Flag and Green Coast award status
Street Feasts will happen all over Kerry! Street Feast are delighted to confirm that over 1200 Street Feasts so far, are registered to take place around the country, with 17 taking place in County Kerry so far, including areas such as Tralee, Killarney, Milltown and Kenmare. Registrations are OPEN for the 9th annual Street Feast taking place on Sunday, 10th June 2018. Street Feast is an Irish initiative that facilitates social inclusion and community building through the simple act of sharing a meal with neighbours. The aim is to strengthen our communities, making them more resilient, safer, healthier and happy places to live. Street Feast calls on people nationwide to come together at 12 noon on Sunday, 10th June, in an act of community and friendship. Founded in 2010, Street Feast was conceived by a small group of volunteers, passionate about bringing people together through food and rediscovering neighbourliness as the launch pad for lasting improvements within communities. Since then, Street Feast has grown year on year with over 130,000 people taking part across the country in 2017. The initiative urges individuals and groups 16

to host a lunch on their street, in their local park, front gardens or driveway – inviting neighbours to join in. It is one of the only events in the country where money is not exchanged, the idea being similar to a pot-luck where everyone contributes something, whether it be a plate of food, chairs, decorations or a tune. Street Feast will support these individuals and community groups to host their respective celebrations, which are held simultaneously in neighbourhoods right across Ireland. Those wanting to take part should register at www. streetfeast.ie and will receive a free Street Feast Pack in the mail. The pack includes a DIY Street Feast guide, posters, invitations, and bunting. The website offers inspiration and guidance on how to organise a feast, removing any obstacles to getting started. Speaking recently , Sam Bishop, one of the founders of Street Feast said: Street Feast brings neighbours together through the universal language of food and is the conversation starter to more Friday 25th May 2018
community-lead projects and ideas. We’ve seen wonderful projects start out of Street Feasts; MensSheds, Grow It Yourself (GIY groups), festivals, babysitting clubs, community gardens, resident associations and support groups have all grown out of Street Feast celebrations. The result is more active, inclusive, healthier communities that are environmentally sustainable and socially cohesive. “I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although we lived in the neighbourhood for a number of years, this was our first time meeting many of the neighbours.”
Orlaith Brennan attended one of her neighbours Street Feast’s last year in Carrigadav, Castlegregory. Looking back today she said: “I thoroughly enjoyed it. WHATS DIFFERENT ABOUT BROOKFIELD?
Elisha "This year , we celebrate working with students for 30 years , since 1988 " says Principal Elisha Dowling . "I like to emphasise the word 'with' as it conveys the approach we take with all students who come here ...We have created an atmosphere in the College where students are expected and encouraged to perform to the best of their ability. The most important part of this equation (yes , Elisha also teaches Maths!) has to be our teachers .At present we have 15 teachers in the school , all highly qualified teachers who are motivated and enthusiastic about teaching ...They just love teaching ...and that does come out in the students! And because there is rarely any changeover of teachers , that gives our students consistency ..very important in the exam years . We dont have uniforms and teachers are known on a first name basis... this all fosters maturity amongst the students. All our students are given regular assessments and each is assigned a tutor who meets with them several times during the year , discussing progress and giving both advice and guidance.Career guidance also gets priority during the Senior Cycle as we find it answers a lot of questions that students may have and gives them clarification. Its very satisfying to hear, maybe even a few years after they've gone that former students have found their time with us to be hugely positive... thats enough for me "

Bexblah Beauty HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK!
I recently talked on my Instagram (@rebecca.shortt if you’re wondering) about my current skincare routine. When I was in Thailand my skin got very congested due to the humidity & training outdoors in the heat. Since coming to Australia I noticed a huge improvement in my skin, its overall look and texture. So here’s what I’m using/loving… I’m going to write this in order of the steps I do my skincare routine in so that it’s easier to follow!
1. MAKEUP REMOVER -
on days I am wearing makeup I use the DHC Deep Cleansing Facial Oil to remove it before cleansing. I got this in the gift bag at the Makeup By Mario Masterclass & I love how easily it melts away my makeup. You can get it online & it costs about €30.
3. MY SECRET WEAPON - This
2. CLEANSER-
product has become an absolute must have in my skincare routine, the La Roche Posay Duo + Cream. I’m absolutely obsessed and would recommend it to anyone who suffers with acne prone skin, blackheads, texture or scarring. It makes my skin tone and texture so much better and I just have to have this.
if you know anything about me and skincare you know Kiehls is one of my ride or die skincare brands. For cleanser I use the Kiehls Calendula Facial Wash, always. Amazing for acne prone skin.
4. MOISTURISER - I switch up my moisturiser a bit, I like to try new ones. My current moisturiser is one I used before and have gone back to, the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream (SPF 30), you can get this for any skin type (there’s an oil free version too) & it’s important for everyone to have an SPF on their face daily.
5. EYES - You might remember a few months back I was trying out the Neutrogena Hydro Boost range for a while as I wanted to use skincare that was a bit more budget friendly. I’m obsessed with everything in that range & use the Hydro Boost Eye Cream daily to hydrate my Eye area.
6. NIGHT TIME -
In the night my routine is basically the same but instead of my daily moisturiser I use the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I love this, it’s amazing. End of.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome
IBS is the most common problem associated with the digestive system. It can be a collection of different symptoms and these symptoms can vary from person to person and also present varying extremes of discomfort. Some of the more common symptoms include: • Abdominal Discomfort/Pain/Cramps • Constipation/Diarrhoea (One or both) • Bloating • Tummy Rumbling • Heart Burn/Indigestion • Headaches • Nausea • Gas/Flatulence As well as physical symptoms IBS may also affect a person mentally with emotional symptoms, such as mood swings and anxiety. IBS shows us just how strong the brain to gut connection is. Our brain and gut can have a positive or negative effect on each other, sometimes more than we realise for example if you feel anxious or nervous you may feel this in your tummy. If you suffer from IBS this anxiety may trigger the onset of some of the symptoms mentioned such as cramps or constipation/ diarrhoea. What triggers symptoms of IBS in a person may also vary; for some the triggers may be dietary while for others it could be emotional, such as stress, anxiety or shock. If it is dietary most people find by avoiding the offending food for a period of time helps to relieve the symptoms and you may be able to introduce it back gradually as your gut heals. Some of the more beneficial supplements to help with digestive issues include: •
Digestive Enzymes: These help your digestive system to break down your food before it hits your stomach and can help alleviate symptoms such as bloating, cramping, indigestion and heart burn.
Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com
• •
•
Aloe Vera Gel: Taken twice a day may also help to calm and soothe the digestive system, stomach and bowel Pro-biotics: Have a huge role to play in maintaining gut and bowel health. Helping to deliver optimal balance of good and bad bacteria, thus improving health and wellbeing. Always seek advice when purchasing a probiotic to ensure optimum results. Symprove: Taken 10minutes before breakfast every morning for 12 weeks Symprove may significantly improve bowel habits, abdominal pain and general IBS symptoms. You can continue with a lower daily maintenance dose after the 12 weeks if required.
Keep fluid intake with meals to a minimum and chew food thoroughly. Fluids may dilute stomach acid which we need to aid digestion. If your IBS is triggered by emotional factors as mentioned earlier, some of the natural remedies you may find beneficial are Rhodiola, Irish Botanica Peace and Calm, High Potency B-Complex such as Viridian or Solo, the homeopathic remedy ANX and also worth checking out are the range of Bush Flower Remedies. Until Next Time, Stay Healthy
Deirdre
Fibre is essential in maintaining a healthy bowel. A tsp of PSYLLIUM HUSK in a glass of water once/twice a day is a great bo wel cleanser. Drinking plenty of water is vital when taking a fibre supp lement.

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS!
I hope you’re all having an amazing week!
This week I’m going to be talking about one of my favourite things - LEG DAY. Why I love training legs, the benefits, my typical leg day workout and more. So if you wanna know more… Keep reading. I think my love of training legs stems from a lot of things, the main one being that I always saw my legs as my ‘problem area’, so when I started training them and saw changes and progress, I got addicted to training legs. The legs are one of the largest parts of the whole body, and I love how toned strong legs look, so I train with that goal in mind. Also, when you train legs you’re also training your bum - and who doesn’t love a good bum! Luckily for us women, we are stronger in the legs than in any other part. We’re actually stronger in the legs than men are in relation to the rest of our bodies. So we’ve no excuse not to have strong toned legs! A lot of leg exercises such as squats, leg press and lunges, are compound movements - which means they involve more than one muscle group so you’ll be working all three of the leg groups, Quads, Hamstrings & Glutes. These movements also target your core strength, winning! Leg workouts when done correctly, are hard. You will be out of breath, sweating and feeling the burn. I’ve recently started encorparating GVT(German Volume Training) into one of my leg days. So on one of my leg days, I will do every movement aka squat, lunge, deadlift for 10 reps and 10 sets at a weight that isn’t too heavy but is still a struggle for the last two sets.
Today’s Leg Day WARMUP: 10 mins of either uphill walking or the stairmaster SQUATS: 2 warmup sets just with the bar followed by 3 working sets with 10 reps of 60-80kg GOOD MORNINGS: 5 sets of 10-15 reps with just the bar LEG PRESS: 2 warmup sets of 40-60kg followed by 3 working sets of 70-90kg WALKING LUNGES: 5 sets of walking up and down the gym floor with 6-8kg dumbbells GLUTE HAMSTRING RAISES: 5 sets of 10 reps with 10kg weight CABLE PULL THROUGH: 5 sets of 10 reps with 12-17kg weight WEIGHTED GLUTE BRIDGE: 5 sets of 10 reps with weight Also, all women have cellulite. It’s inevitable and isn’t something to be ashamed of, but having more muscle mass in your legs can significantly reduce the appearance of it. Just saying.

METHOD Step 1 In a food processor, combine the onion, scallions, chiles, garlic, five-spice powder, allspice, pepper, thyme, nutmeg and salt; process to a coarse paste. LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! A SENIOR CITIZEN DROVE HIS BRAND NEW CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP.
Taking off down the road, he floored it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little gray hair he had left. “Amazing,” he thought as he flew down I-94, pushing the pedal even more. Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a state trooper behind him, lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120. Suddenly he thought, “What am I doing? I’m too old for this,” and pulled over to await the trooper’s arrival. Pulling in behind him, the trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch, and said, “Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason for speeding that I’ve never heard before, I’ll let you go.” The old gentleman paused. Then he said, “Years ago, my wife ran off with a State trooper. I thought you were bringing her back.” “Have a good day, sir,” replied the trooper.
“Oh that sounds like a personal matter, I’m afraid we cannot involve ourselves.” “Listen here you smartass, the window isn’t opening up and that’s a maintenance matter!”

A PRINCE UNDER A SPELL A WEALTHY MAN DIES AND GIVES HIS FRIENDS $10,000 EACH
The man wanted his friends, a minister, a United Way executive, and a lawyer, to put the $10,000 into his grave. The man wanted nothing more than to be surrounded by his money forever. At the funeral, each person placed an envelope into the casket. Later that night, the three started talking. The minister said he needed to confess. He only put $5000 into the grave and gave the rest to the church. The United Way executive said she also needed to admit something. She withheld $8000 for the benefit of several charities. The lawyer couldn’t believe the others didn’t follow their friend’s last wishes, for the lawyer had put in a check for the full $10,000.

A prince was put under a spell so that he could speak only one word each year. If he didn’t speak for two years, the following year he could speak two words and so on. One day, he fell in love with a beautiful lady. He refrained from speaking for two whole years so he could call her “my darling.” But then he wanted to tell her he loved her, so he waited three more years. At the end of these five years, he wanted to ask her to marry him, so he waited another four years. Finally, as the ninth year of silence ended, he led the lady to the most romantic place in the kingdom and said, “My darling, I love you! Will you marry me?” And the lady said, “Pardon?”

TORQUING CARS! INSURANCE PREMIUMS REMAIN HIGH DESPITE PROMISES OF REFORM
Investigations by the European Commission into alleged anti-competitive practices on the part of the Irish Insurance industry took a further twist this week when it emerged that they are focusing on claims that restricting access to industry-specific databases was used to thwart new entrants to the market. This is part of an ongoing investigation by the EU, who carried out raids on motor insurance companies in July 2017 over alleged cartel activity. From 2013 to 2016, average motor insurance premiums increased by 70pc. High motor insurance premiums have not gone away and most motorists are still paying significantly higher rates than they were in the past and many are enduring year-on-year increases.Rising insurance costs are a feature for many motorists and the positive difference to the pricing of insurance premiums that was promised is yet to be seen. According to survey of 4,000 motorists by AA Car Insurance, over 42pc of respondents said that they strongly believe the issue of insurance prices is no longer as important to Government as it was 12 months ago.But not everyone is convinced that the price increases are solely as a consequence of compensation claims or that Ireland is a competitive motor insurance market.”Neither of those factors changed over the three-year period from 2013 to justify the 70pc increase in motor premium charges identified by the Working Group during a period over which they identified that overall claims costs only increased by 14pc. We have a long way to go yet before we arrive at the real answers as to why we are in this mess, again.”Peter Boland of the Insurance Alliance, a consumer action group, believes the allegations this week regarding restricted access to the Irish insurance market are shocking but not surprising. “Our members have suspected as much and have been paying the price for years. It is remarkable that such a valuable market, worth over €2bn, is controlled by so few underwriters with 90pc of the motor insurance market controlled by six companies and 80pc of business insurance controlled by six also.”Insurance Ireland is rejecting all allegations that they have imposed obstacles for new players to enter the market
FIESTA CROSSOVER AND ST HOT HATCH PRICES REVEALED
It’s a Fiesta on the double from Ford. They’ve just announced their new Fiesta Active crossover will cost from €21,900 when it goes on sale here for the July 182-reg period. And their new Fiesta ST hot hatch will cost from €28,120 - it too is due quite soon. The marque has revealed more details of both cars, including spec levels. It is the car Ford are banking on giving them a crossover to a new market. The Active gets what Ford describe as “rugged exterior design features”, some additional cladding, its own set of alloys, roof rails and so on.More importantly, they have raised the ride height (by 18mm), and track is increased by 10mm, while the suspension has been tuned to accommodate “rough road” driving. They have Normal, Eco and Slippery Drive modes - the latter is no doubt to prove that it can handle surfaces other than tarmac. The big seller here will be the 1-litre EcoBoost petrol 100PS (114 g/km CO2) with 6spd manual gearbox. Inside there is SYNC 3 connectivity with touchscreens (up to 8ins) and B&O PLAY premium audio.Standard spec also includes 17ins alloys, rear LED lights, rear privacy glass and a spread of safety equipment. The Active 2 model has black roof rails, B&O Play premium audio system with 360° sound system (10 speakers), 8ins touchscreen, cruise control, auto high beam, driver alert and traffic sign recognition, rain-sensing wipers, The Fiesta Active costs from €21,900, and the Active 2 from €23,200. The Active will be followed by a new KA+ Active and Focus Active 5dr and wagon later in the year. The 200PS 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine in the new ST zips it from a standing start to 100kmh in 6.5 seconds. That’s lively from the first 3cyl engine to power a Ford performance model. There will be two versions - ST 2 and ST 3. Standard spec includes 17ins alloys, LED daytime running lights, ST-design full body-styling kit, large rear spoiler, dual chrome exhaust, selectable drive mode, ST suspension, Recaro seats, cruise control, SYNC 3 with 8ins touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, B&O Play premium audio system with 360° sound. The ST 3 version adds power/folding mirrors, partial leather Recaro seats, navigation, rear view camera/parking sensors etc. The ST 2 costs from €28,120, and the ST 3 from €30,270. (Indo Motoring )
PORSCHE IN EU WIDE RECALL
PORSCHE in Ireland don’t yet know how many cars are affected by an EU wide recall of 60,000 vehicles over emissions software - but the number of Irish cars is expected to be quite small. German authorities ordered the EU-wide recall after finding they emitted excessive pollutants due to software that turned down emission controls during driving. The Federal Motor Transport Authority said it discussed “impermissible defeat devices” that led to increased emissions of harmful nitrogen oxides at Volkswagen’s Porsche sports car division. The mandatory recall covers 6,755 4.2-litre V8 diesel Cayenne vehicles from 2015 and 2016, and 52,831 3-litre V6 diesel Macans. A spokesperson in Ireland estimated that around 34 Cayennes were registered here between the relevant dates of 2015 and 2016 but that a number of those could have been exported since. It wasn’t immediately clear how many Macans may be impacted. Porsche will write to owners individually. The vehicles affected were certified under the Euro 6 standard. Porsche’s engines are made by the Volkswagen Group’s Audi luxury division.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Cash in your Credit Union Stamps before June 30th! Cara Credit Union have announced that they are replacing their €2 Saving Stamps and machines with an E Stamp Balance now available on every members account. Speaking to Pa Laide CEO, “our €2 Saving Stamps and machines are no longer compliant with Anti Money Laundering (AML) Regulation and guidance issued by the Central Bank. AML regulation specifies that we must ensure that “money in all accounts (including stamps) can be attributed to individual members. As this is not possible to do at the time of purchase with our existing €2 Saving Stamps and machines we are moving saving stamp services to a more secure and efficient E Stamp Balance now available on members accounts. We know this may disappoint members and the shops who have our machines
but failure to comply with AML regulations could result in fines for Cara Credit Union. Other financial institutions received fines for breaches to AML regulations last year. Credit Unions are not exempt with two credit unions having also received fines from Central Bank for failure to comply with AML regulations. We do not want this to happen to Cara Credit Union, nor do our members want this to happen so we thank them for their co-operation and support as we replace our €2 Saving Stamps with our E Stamp Balance. We still have a saving mechanism in place, members have the option to save into their shares/savings account to earn a dividend and free life savings insurance. If they don’t want access to their shares/savings they now have an E Stamp balance they can use.” Cara Credit Union
will replace their €2 Saving Stamps and Machines from 30th of June and members will have until the 30th September to cash in their €2 Saving Stamps in any of their three offices. Speaking to Suzanne Ennis, Marketing and Business Development Manager “Having reviewed all options available to us we feel that our new “E Stamp” balance is faster, more secure and will provide members with a more efficient service. We have a new machine in our Tralee office which we will have available by 30th June that can take
lodgements and withdrawals. We also hope to roll this out in our other two offices in Castleisland and Killorglin at a later stage”. Cara Credit Union says they have a number of ways that members can lodge money to their E Stamp Balance. They can set up a Direct Debit transfer funds from their bank account using their credit union IBAN and BIC, express lodge in their Tralee office or over the counter in any of their three offices. For further information visit www.caracreditunion.ie or call in to their offices in Tralee, Castleisland or Killorglin.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER after being 0-17 down. The u16’s defeated Laune Rangers to reach the County League semi-final where they will play Castlegregory. The club also wishes Sean Quilter and the minors all the best in the run up to their Munster final.
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR EUGENE LEADS TRALEE MANOR WEST IN EARLY DAYS OF RAS: The 2018 Ras Tailteann picked two great days to come to Kerry. The sun shone on both the Stage end into Listowel and one the following day when the riders ‘enjoyed’ a 153 km ride from the North Kerry town to Glengarriff. This saw the riders passing through Killarney and up Molls Gap and the Healy Pass in what was certainly one of the toughest of the 8 days. The Tralee Manor West team were one of two from Kerry as Killarney also had a team which shows the strength of the sport in Kerry. They had to make a change to the line-up before the race when Lee Masters was injured in the Tour of Ulster and the Australian had to pull out. He was replaced by Brandon Douglas who fitted in without a problem to the set-up. After the first two stages Eugene Moriarty led the team into his home town finishing in the huge bunch finish. Eugene is riding in his 21st Ras which is an amazing achievement to stay at the top for so long. This saw him in 19th place overall only 35 seconds down on the leader and 3rd place in the County Rider category. Killarney’s Richard Maes also deserves a special mention as he was two places higher in 17th after a very impressive opening two days. Looking at the rest of the Tralee Manor West team Paul Kennedy was in 28th as he carried his form from the opening round of the Kerry TT into the Ras. Cathal Moynihan was 85th, Cormac Daly 98th and Brandon Douglas in 122th. As I write this column the third stage has just come to an end with the climbs taking their toll. Moriarty is just outside the top 40 while Richard Maes is still the best Kerry rider in 41st place. Maes is still in the top 10 of the County Rider category in 10th with Moriarty only a few places back. Tralee are in 5th in the County Team Category with a podium still on the cards. Killarney are in 7th. STAYING WITH CYCLING AND PAUL BLASTS THROUGH THE TT: The opening round of the Kerry Time Trial League saw a number of blistering times set by the riders over the 20km course. The Time Trial was using its regular course from Ballycarty Cross to

Castleisland and back and almost 40 riders took part in this first of six rounds. The quickest on the night was Paul Kennedy of the Newcastlewest CC. His time of 26.14.6 was the second fastest Time Trial time since the series began in 2011 – just slightly outside the record that it still held be Denis Dunworth of the now disbanded Moda Kingdom Endurance team. This ride set Paul up nicely for this week’s Ras Tailteann where he is part of the Tralee Manor West team. Second on the night was Mike O’Shea from Killorglin whose time of 27.06 was a new record for the Over 40’s category. Denis Lynch from Sliabh Luachra took the third spot followed home by his team mate Richard Cleverly who was also the fastest A2 rider with Ciaran Slattery from the host club Tralee Manor West in 5th. Cannice McNay of Newcastlewest CC was the quickest A3 rider with Paudie O’Sullivan Tralee Manor West winning the A4 battle and Edward O’Mahony from the same club was the fastest Over 50. In the Ladies Section Suzanne O’Sullivan – Tralee Manor West – proved to be unbeatable again clocking 31.47. She was followed home by Catriona Donovan and Annie Horgan. Eoin Moloney, also from the host club, was the quickest u16 in a time of 30.13 finishing just ahead of Killarney CC’s Patrick Galvin and Tadgh O’Shea. There is no racing this week with all eyes on the Ras. Next up is Round 2 of the Road Race on May 31st which will be hosted by the Killarney Cycling Club. KERRY LADIES BACK ON THE BIG STAGE: I am sure he won’t be claiming the credit but since Sean Walsh has gotten involved in the Kerry Ladies GAA set-up things are certainly going in the right direction. It must be said that there is also a hard working committee now in place so the future for the girls can only be bright. They have also brought in the well-respected Eddie Sheehy to manage the team. And I am sure that the fans will come early to the Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday June 3rd when the Ladies take on Waterford in their Munster semi-final with the game being a curtain raiser to Friday 25th May 2018
senior men’s own Munster semifinal where they face Clare. It’s the start of a busy month for Kerry football with the Juniors and Minors in action in the coming weeks. Hopefully on the 3rd Kerry can register two wins and progress to two Muinster deciders. The Ladies game throws in at 1.30pmand the men’s at 3.30pm so come early. Before all those games the Kerry hurlers face a must win game away to Meath in the McDonagh Cup. Having lost to Westmeath last weekend Kerry are on 2 points from 3 games while Meath are bottom with three losses. PARNELLS NEWS: Well done to the Holy Family who were the winners of the inaugural Tralee Parnells Cumann na mBunscol blitz. They defeated Moyderwell in the final with a last minute goal from the club’s Andrew Kerins. Eoghan Costello and Aoibhinn O’Connor were named as the Players of the Tournament. The Spa National School won the Tralee area Primary School skills competition. The club had players on a number of the schools teams. In Campogie the Kerry Development team was the runnerup in the inaugural Kerry u15 Blitz going down to a strong Clare B team. The club’s under 10’s played in the first South Kerry Blitz of the Year at the Kilcummin GAA grounds. The boys enjoyed their games against St Pat’s, Firies and Kenmare. The club thanks all those who volunteered their time for the bag packing fundraiser last weekend. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The u6’s, u8’s and u10’s travel to Killorglin this Sunday. There are also Go Games taking place. The youngsters of Rathonane/ Shanakill enjoyted their training session and will have another one this week. The u11’s welcome the Douglas Club of Cork to Tralee this Sunday. The u12’s enjoyed a very successful Phase 1 of the County League. They started Round 2 with a win over Kilcummin. The Tralee Town Board Suit Select u14 League Division 1 final was refixed for last night, Thursday 24th. The club will face Kerins O’Rahillys in the decider. The B’s stage a huge comeback against Dr Crokes but just went down by 4 points

The u17’s are in Round 1 action in their competition which is a 9-a-side competition with games lasting 12 minutes a half. The Senior B’s defeated Lispole in the Junior Football League while the Seniors are back in County League action where they will take on Laune Rangers in Killorglin on Sunday at 2pm. TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER The u14’s are in the County League Division 2 final where they will play Fossa in Ballymac. The Academy enjoyed their games with Ballmac with the u10’s played John Mitchels. The Academy are back in Ballyrickard this Sunday from 11am. The u12 A’s opened their County League with a win over John Mitchels as did the B’s in a closer game. The u15’s are involved in the Super 10’s in the next week. The Summer Camp will take place from Monday July 30th to Friday August 3rd with booking details being released in the near future. The u12 Girls saw off Laune Rangers in the County League. Training continues on Tuesday and Thursdays. The u16 Girls were away to Beale/Ballyduff this week. TONY SINKS THEM FOR JOE: Tony Healy was the winner of Joe Flynn Memorial Pool Cup held in The Castle Bar last Friday. He defeated Tim Claffey in the final. The tournament honours the memory of the late Joe who was much loved in sporting circles in the town and beyond. KDMC MEMBER TAKES THE WIN: Cork’s Barry Meade who is a member of the Killarney and District Motor Club and a regular at Kerry events, and Colin Fitzgerald took victory in the Carlow Sheehy Motors Mini Stages Rally in their Escort, eleven seconds ahead of Frank and Lorna Kelly from Tyrone. Tim Enright and Stephen Buckley were the first all Kerry crew in their Escort taking 3rd in Class 14. Kerry rally fans were also relieved to see Killarney’s Paul Nagle walk out unhurt from a huge crash on the WRC Rally Portugal. His driver Kris Meeke did go to hospital for a short observation but thankfully was also unhurt. However the same cannot be said for the car! KERRY CRICKETS WIN AGAIN IN CUP: Kerry has reached the last 8 of the Irish National Cup for the last two years and will be looking to get to that stage at least this season and hopefully further. They opened their campaign with an impressive win over Ballaghdereen at the picturesque Oyster Oval in Fenit. The home side had the visitors all out for 102 and easily reached that target with Arslan Anwar top scoring on 41. Kerry 2 were unlucky to lose to Limerick 2 in a rain ended game in Adare. Kerry had hit 240 and Limerick were on 99 for 4 when the rain came. The home side won on the net run-rate. TRALEE SCHOOLS ATHLETES THROUGH TO THE NATIONALS: There was a huge number of athletes in An Riocht for the Irish Life Health Munster Schools Track and Field Championships. SWIMMING SERIES BACK IN THE WATER: The first swim of the Tralee Bay World Series, the Hugh Culloty Expert sponsored swim takes place on next Wednesday May 30th. The race begins at 7.30pm. AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the second round of the Kerry Group Club Championships. On Saturday night there are the first round heats of the Track Supporters Club N1 525 yards. The Kerry GAA supporters club sponsored Race of Champions semi- finals take place on Friday June 1st.
