KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES

Ronan and Julie are intent on buying a house and moving in together , they are wondering whether or not they should do a cohabitation/cohabitant agreement. A cohabitation agreement is a legal document between unmarried couples who are living together. It can set out arrangements for finances, property and children while you’re living together and if you split up, become ill or die. You can make an agreement at any time. It’s good to do it before you move in together. Cohabitation agreements can also be made between people who are not romantically involved – for example, friends or siblings. Reasons for a cohabitation/cohabitant agreement You don’t automatically have the same rights married couples. Cohabitants rights are established where parties have lived together in an intimate and committed relationship for five years with no children and two years with children. A cohabitant can go to court to establish rights under a redress scheme in relation to property, finances, pensions and ongoing maintenance. This can make the future uncertain for the parties as if they cannot agree between themselves a judge will decide it. The Cohabitant agreement in Ireland can bring a degree of certainty as provided it is fair, voluntary and freely entered into it can be legally binding. A cohabitants agreement can provide for financial and property matters during the relationship or where the relationship ends through death or otherwise. In order that these agreements are legally binding the parties need independent legal advice or having received legal advice together they have waived their right to independent legal advice. It must be signed by both parties and comply with contract law. The cohabitants agreement can state that the redress scheme cannot be used nor can orders be made to provide a cohabitant with an inheritance. If the agreement is clearly unfair it could be overruled by a court. In addition to the Cohabitant agreement Ronan and Julie should also make Wills and they have to decide how to hold the property either as 1. Joint owners whereby if anything happened either one of them it would go to the other or 2. As tenants in common where they each own a half share of the property which they can will to whoever they want. In option number 1 they may make Wills which will also provide an jointly agreed distribution of their property if they both died often distributed fairly between both their families. 14 KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

Can brothers Neil and Paul take the award?

“Fantastic article about local businessmen Neil and Paul Fitzgibbon in last weeks Irish Times .They are one of the 8 finalists in this years Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards .Read the interview below ...it gives a great insight into a great international company here on our doorstep “ Neil and Paul Fitzgibbon, Ard Rí Group Over the past 31 years, the Fitzgibbon family has grown the Ard Rí group from a local craft producer into an international manufacturer and distributor of homeware products. Since their father retired in 2007, Paul and Neil continued expansion of the business from its beginnings in Kerry into Dublin, Britain and China. Today, the company employs about 680 staff to deliver services to a network of more than 1,200 retailers across Ireland and Britain. It was in 1989 when Noel Fitzgibbon, who comes from a long tradition of Kerry stonemasons, established Ard Rí marble, manufacturing handcrafted fireplaces in Tralee. Starting with a small factory with five employees, it has since expanded its range and substantially grown its workforce. When Neil and Paul took over, they worked hard to improve control of their own supply and delivery chains and to build the company’s own transport network to supply doors, stoves, architrave and other homeware products. The group now has two large distribution centres in Britain, a distribution centre in Dublin, two factories in southern China and an additional distribution centre and headquarters in Tralee. Over the coming five years the company is expected to enter five new markets and double turnover from €65 million

to €130 million, growing its workforce to more than 2,000 staff. By 2025, Neil and Paul expect Ard Rí to be one of the biggest manufacturers and distributors of homeware products in the EU, growing by 2030 to be among the biggest manufacturers and distributors of homeware products in the world. What lightbulb moment prompted you to start up in business? Our father Noel Fitzgibbon created the Ard Rí group in 1989. The 80s in Ireland were a difficult time, in particular for a small rural town like Tralee. Our father had a vision to build a strong local business making fireplaces and selling them around Ireland. When we took over the business in 2007, we realised the potential to turn it into a truly global company, driving job creation in our hometown. What is your greatest business achievement to date? In the early 2000s we navigated language, political and cultural differences and opened a factory in China producing the products we had previously been buying from Chinese suppliers. One of the family learned Mandarin and moved to China. We knew that if we could get control of our supply chains, we could control and master product quality, delivery and output. What was your “back-to-thewall” moment and how did you overcome it?

As a self-financed company, we struggled financially when entering the British market; we struggled to break into a market that was larger but culturally different from Ireland. We knew we had a great product and with just one week’s cash reserves in place, we re-mortgaged our homes and invested everything we had in growing in Britain. What were the best and worst pieces of advice you received when starting out? The best advice we got was to learn how to sell your own product. If you don’t know how to sell your product, don’t expect anyone else to be able to. The worst piece of advice we got was to take things slowly. The market won’t wait for you. You have to be innovative, nimble, open to change and you have to move fast to have the upper hand. How has Covid-19 impacted your business? Are you still feeling the effects?

We closed our distribution centres in Ireland and Britain and our factories in China during the Covid-19 lockdown. Our sales staff worked from home but our retail partners were largely closed. This had an effect on our bottom line but sales have bounced back aggressively since we reopened in early June. This June was our second busiest month on record since we started trading. What is the single most important piece of advice you would offer to a less experienced entrepreneur? Start selling your product or service quickly, don’t wait until it is perfect! Whether you are selling doors or software, make sure you have mastered the ability to sell your own product.

Answeryourphone... a vital service for todays SME business! Answeringyourphone.com is a virtual call centre based in Killarney .MD Aidan Cronin says “ we answer calls for small. and medium size businesses who have overflow calls in their business and basically who may not have the time or resources to take that call in a proper business manner. “They may be just too busy ‘doing the day job ‘ so to speak to deal with the incoming call . It could be a Plumber , an Accountant , A small maintenance company or indeed a larger company who

Friday 25th September 2020

just doesn’t have the resources to employ someone full time to do this job every day ...who knows when a call will come in!” says Aidan

Aidan says currently they offer a one weeks free trial in 3 easy steps risk free.We give the potential client our professional answering service

and they get to see how it would transform their business .You can contact Aidan directly on 085-1142609.

3rd Annual Festival Will Celebrate Kerry’s Vibrant Architectural Heritage Kerry’s architectural heritage and the county’s architectural landscape will be celebrated during the third annual Architecture Kerry Festival next weekend. A wide range of events including free guided tours and exhibitions will take place from 25 to 27 September. The aim of the festival, which is part of the Creative Ireland Kerry Programme, is to highlight the wide diversity of the architectural landscape in Kerry and to make some of the best-known sites of architectural significance in the county accessible to all ages. Due to the current pandemic, Architecture Kerry this year has adapted its programme to reflect the need to run many of its events online. However, Architecture Kerry has also reached out to the public, to bring the people of Kerry together to be part of the celebration. During August, the Council ran a public photography competition called ‘Rediscovering Your Hidden Kingdom’ whereby

people were asked to submit their favourite images of Kerry’s built environment. The top 20 winning entrants will be showcased for Architecture Kerry 2020. Kerry County Council’s Architectural Conservation Officer, Victoria McCarthy, said the programme of events has something for everyone, even those with a passing interest in architecture: ‘Throughout Saturday 26, and Sunday 27 September, some festival favourites will be opening their doors for free guided tours. Bookings should be made with each venue. The Tralee Shopping Centre and Yummy Café in Tralee town centre will be hosting the festival’s exhibitions this year and will offer a safe and welcoming environment to visitors’ she said. The full programme of events is now available on the Kerry County Council website or via www.architecture.kerrycoco. ie. Festival organiser Victoria McCarthy of Kerry County Council can also be contacted

directly at 066 7183793 or at victoria.mccarthy@kerrycoco. ie Architecture Kerry is supported by Kerry County Council and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in partnership with the OPW, the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland, the Irish Georgian Society, and the Irish Architecture Foundation. The event forms part of the Creative Ireland Programme in Kerry.

‘Creative Ireland is an all-ofgovernment national strategy (2017-2022) which places creativity at the centre of public policy. Architecture as an artform is central to the strategy, relevant to the design principles and creativity required within the heritage and contemporary built environment. This festival promises to be a very engaging and information weekend,’ said Kate Kennelly, Creative Ireland Coordinator in

Twas one of the best experiences of my life... Lauren Skydives for Recovery Haven! -Lauren Fitzell who runs the hugely popular Slimming World classes in Tralee and Dingle completed her first ever Skydive last weekend .Read what she says .... “My first ever Sky dive completed after 7 months of waiting to do it.! I was asked by Marie of Marie’s Slimming World Killarney back in January would I be her companion on a sky dive in aid of Recovery Haven Tralee. At first I was thought ‘no way’ but once she had said why she was doing the skydive I couldn’t let her down.. We had 3 weeks notice of the jump so we didn’t have much time to get nervous or panic about it. Then Storm Jorge put the skydive on hold for another while, then the lockdown came, and then the local lockdown in Offaly so I had plenty time to psyche myself up for it. Last weekend Marie and myself completed our long awaited skydive and it was the best experience to date. I will 100% be doing it again. To date I have raised just over €1700 for Recovery Haven Tralee I would like to thank Marisa and Jacinta of Recovery Haven for all the organising and reorganising they had to do to pull this off. My members in Tralee and Dingle, friends, family, The palliative care unit UHK Tralee and many more for their generous donations.

IT’S ONLY A JOKE 20

A PIRATE WALKED INTO A BAR

A pirate walked into a bar and the bartender said : ‘Hey, I haven’t seen you in a while. What happened? You look terrible.’ ‘What do you mean?’ said the pirate, ‘I feel fine.’ Bartender: ‘What about the wooden leg? You didn’t have that before.’ Pirate: ‘Well, we were in a battle and I got hit with a cannon ball, but I’m fine now.’ Bartender: ‘Well, ok, but what about that hook? What happened to your hand?’ Pirate: ‘We were in another battle. I boarded a ship and got into a sword fight. My hand was cut off. I got fitted with a hook. I’m fine, really...’ Bartender: ‘What about that eye patch?’ Pirate: ‘Oh, one day we were at sea and a flock of birds flew over. I looked up and one of them Cr*#pped in my eye.’ Bartender: ‘You’re kidding, you lost an eye just from bird crap?’ Pirate: ‘It was my first day with the hook.

“BUT WHY?” ASKED MIKE. “VALENTINE’S DAY JOKE”

Mike walked into a post office just before Valentine’s day, he couldn’t help noticing a middle-aged, balding man standing in a corner sticking “Love” stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. Then the man got out a bottle of Channel perfume from his pocket and started spraying scent over the envelopes. By now Mike’s curiosity had got the better of him, and so I asked the man why he was sending all those cards. The man replied, “I’m sending out 500 Valentine cards signed, ‘Guess who?’” “But why?” asked Mike.“I’m a divorce lawyer,” the man replied

A GUY IS DRINKING IN A BAR...

in the end, you ignore it all and click “I agree.”

After his last drink, he tries to stand up and falls. He starts crawling out of the bar. He crawls out of the bar, he crawls in the street, trying to hold on to something, but each time he falls and he just keeps crawling home. He crawls up his stairs, he crawls to his bedroom, and finally he crawls into his bed next to his wife. The morning after, he wakes up to find his wife looking mad as hell!

A COUPLE HAD TO GIVE THEIR TWIN BOYS UP FOR ADOPTION...

“Did you get wasted last night ? Again ?” “ No no no sweetie, what makes you say that ?” “ The bartender called, you forgot your bloody wheelchair there.”

ARGUING WITH A WOMAN IS LIKE READING A SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT...

One was sent to Mexico and was given the name Juan. His new parents sent the adoption agency a picture every year as he grew older, and they shared the photo with the birth parents. The other boy was adopted by an Egyptian couple. They named him Amal. No pictures from Egypt ever arrived. One day the birth dad remarked to his wife, “I wish we could see Amal one time.” His wife replied, “they are identical twins. If you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Amal.”

Physio Advice

with Silka!

So, what is good Posture anyway?

The key to good Posture is about the positioning of the Spine and how we hold ourselves while sitting, standing or walking. What defines good or bad Posture can be measured by how much ease we have while we move. This is directly linked to what our Posture does or does not support. When we experience tightness, pain, stiffness or lose our flexibility, it can result in a tired or stiff body. This happens when we fail to pay proper attention to how we hold our bodies; which directly influences our health and wellbeing. Our recent inactivity due to lockdown has forced us to live so much out of our routine and has brought changes to how we engage our Posture. Slouching forward, sitting slumped, not moving, working at the coffee table from the sofa instead of the usual desk, all have their way of influencing our habitual behaviour. I hear you ask why should I care about any of this? Well, you'll feel it more so than making a conscious choice about it. Suppose your Body is feeling tired, stiff or heavy... In that case, a balanced approach of stretches, strengthening and coordinating exercises would be very effective in bringing your spine back into alignment. Our Posture leans to what we habitually do. In our modern life, this Posture has become a mainly forward-leaning, rounded one. Gravity now has more opportunity to pull us into this newly found slouched forward way of being. Our now unconsciously chosen dysfunctional Posture can overstretch and weaken us if left unattended. Apparently, with no good reason, we feel less energetic, and often niggles and pains keep coming back without warning.

It may be too easy to think of as necessary, but it's crucial to start every day with a little gentle exercise. Any exercise is better than nothing, as long as moving is pain-free; a small bit goes a long way to keeping your head above your shoulders, your shoulders above your hips and your hips aligned with your feet in a straight line. A good rule of thumb is to look sideways into a full-length mirror to see if you are in alignment by visualising a straight line extending from your ear to your ankle. Can you see a straight line connecting your Body to the ground? If not, there is a misalignment taking place. So why not get it sorted by giving me a call today.

PORK CHOPS IN SAGE BUTTER WITH BEET PUREE AND SWISS CHARD Serves 4 takes about an hour in total

INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • •

2 large red beets (1 pound), halved 2 medium potatoes (1/2 pound) 100g sea salt, Pepper Four 12-ounce bone-in pork rib chops, cut 1 inch thick 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, 3 garlic cloves, crushed 1 sage sprig 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice 2 pounds Swiss chard, stems discarded and leaves chopped

METHOD In a large saucepan, combine the beets and potatoes. Add enough water to cover by 2 inches and bring to a boil over high heat. Cook until the beets and potatoes are tender, 35 to 40 minutes. Drain well. When cool enough to handle, peel the beets and potatoes, and then coarsely chop; transfer to a food processor. Add 2 tablespoons of the butter and puree until smooth. Season with salt and pepper and keep warm. Heat a large cast-iron pan. Rub the pork chops all over with 2 tablespoons of the olive , season with salt and pepper. Cook over moderately high heat until golden brown on the bottom, 7 to 8 minutes.Turn the chops and add the garlic, sage and 2 tablespoons of the butter. Cook until the chops are golden , about 7 minutes longer. Transfer the pork chops to plates and let stand for 5 minutes. Whisk the lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of the butter into the pan, season with salt. Strain the sage butter through a fine sieve over the pork chops. Reserve the crispy sage leaves and discard the garlic. Meanwhile, in a large nonstick pan, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter in the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the chard in large handfuls; let each batch wilt slightly before adding more. Cook, stirring occasionally, until all of the chard is wilted, 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Serve the pork chops with the beet puree and Swiss chard and garnish with the crispy sage leaves

Beauty

HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS I hope you’re having an amazing week! This week I’m going to talk about fake makeup. Sometimes these stalls can be selling makeup brushes or products at a quarter of the usual retail price, which you may think ‘great i’m getting a bargain’ - but you’re not. Counterfeit makeup is very dangerous - it is manufactured in non sanitary conditions and has been reported to contain high levels of bacteria. It can also contain harmful ingredients that is illegal to use in makeup sold in a store that is harmful to your health. Reactions from using fake makeup products can include acne, psoriasis, serious skin rashes and eye infections. These reactions also take a few days to appear so you may not even think it was the fake product you used. I know the temptation to buy these products, you think ‘sure what harm can a lipstick/ lashes/makeup brush do’ I was surrounded by them in Thailand last time, I could have got the most amazing looking fake palettes, lashes and brushes for my kit as a Makeup Artist(apparently that’s what some Artists do). But putting those unknown chemicals and bacteria near my face, or a clients’ is a huge no no for me! You don’t have to spend 50 euro on a Chanel foundation if that’s out of your budget, but rather than buying a fake for a tenner, get a

pharmacy dupe. Brands like L’Oreal, Revlon, Rimmel, Floramar, Note Cosmetics and more do really high quality products for low prices with ingredients that won’t harm you.

So next time you’re at a stall that sells makeup - if it’s being sold at a stall it’s not real. Remember the points I made today, it’s not worth it, it harms your skin, it’s not sanitary, WALK AWAY! That’s what I had to tell myself over and over again in Thailand. Yes it’s annoying that they’re selling Mac lipstick for 5 euro, but it’s not real, not good for you and will harm your skin!

BEXBLAH

FITNESS!

Hello everyone! Hope you’re having a great week. So last week I talked about having a good relationship with food, so following on from that this week I ‘m going to talk about how you can track your progress without the scales. THE WEIGHING SCALES - just a word. But to some people, it’s a big scary word. Now personally, I think… if you are unhealthy, overweight, underweight or just generally not living a healthy lifestyle, a good starting point is to know your weight. Not because your weight defines anything or makes you ‘fat’ or ‘skinny’ but because knowledge is power. For years I avoided the scales, I wasn’t aware of what my weight was and I feel like I was just ignoring it. Ignorance is bliss and all that jazz. But one day I decided, ‘right every day for a month I will weigh myself’ - now again, this might not be a good idea for some people because they could become obsessed with numbers… but, for me it gave structure, accountability and power. I like to know my weight but I don’t just rely on that, it’s one of many things I am aware of. I know that weight loss does not mean fat loss and that the numbers on the scale can actually be misleading.

PICTURES I love a good progress picture. They’re really helpful, especially if you’re feeling unmotivated. Again, take the picture at a certain time of the day and then make sure the ‘progress’ one is taken at the same time, preferably in the same outfit and lighting. SLEEP Sleep actually tells you a lot about your health. If you are focusing on being a more healthy human being, monitoring how well you sleep can tell you a lot. TRACK PROGRESS What I mean by ‘track progress’ is exercise wise. So say you want your cardiovascular health to improve, run for 5 minutes - see

how far you go and how you feel after. Then a few weeks later, after implementing more cardio into your life, try again, maybe you’ll go twice the distance, maybe you’ll run twice as long. If you want to become stronger, track what weights you lift at the gym, and always push yourself with those weights for a week or two, then try and up the weight slightly, and repeat this… you will become stronger(once you are eating right, sleeping right and being generally mindful of your goals of course).

So say you want to be more accountable and knowledgeable, but you know that weighing yourself on a scales isn’t the best option for you… here’s what you can do. MEASUREMENTS The first thing you can do is get out your measuring tape and measure yourself. If you don’t have a measuring tape, go to Byrnesworth in the square, they have them for less than 3 euro. Now, you have your tape so you’re ready to go. Personally, I like to measure myself first thing in the morning before any food, to get the most accurate measurements to track. I measure the smallest part of my waist, around my bellybutton for my hips, one of my upper arms and my thigh. Then write them down, and retake your measurements once or twice a month.

T30O RQU I N G C A R SGet! your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read PREMIUM ADVERTISING NEW 2020 VW ID.4 ELECTRIC SUV.... UP TO 323 MILES OF RANGE

Volkswagen has followed up first deliveries of the new ID.3 electric hatchback with the reveal of its next all-electric model: the ID.4. It’s positioned as a five-seat electric SUV, similar in size to the popular Tiguan, and will compete directly with the Skoda Enyaq and Tesla Model Y. Based on the group’s MEB platform, two battery sizes have been confirmed for the ID.3: a 52kWh unit and a larger 77kWh battery. However, from launch, only models using the larger battery pack will be offered, with the cheaper 52kWh models available later in 2021.Entrylevel ID.4s with the smaller battery pack are claimed to be able to cover a maximum range of 224 miles on a single charge. Drive is provided by an electric motor, available with 146bhp or 168bhp, that powers the rear wheels. Versions with the larger 77kWh battery are capable of unlocking a range of 323 miles on a single charge, says VW. As for charging, three levels are anticipated. While unconfirmed, it’s likely that the entry-level 52kWh ID.4 will default to a 50kW standard, which would enable a 0-80 per cent recharge in around an hour. However, 100kW charging has been confirmed, which would double that baseline speed, but is likely to be an optional extra. Versions with the 77kWh battery, however, will be made available with 125kW charging, capable of adding 199 miles of range in half an hour. Volkswagen has so far confirmed just two versions of the ID.4 for the European market. Both versions use the 77kWh battery and 201bhp electric motor system and are very highly specced. Prices begin from 49,950 euros (£45,800) for the ID.4 1st Edition and 59,950 euros (£55,000) for the ID.4 1st Edition Max before any government incentives. Apply the £3,000 uk plug-in government grant, and it looks as if the high-spec launch versions coming to the UK will begin from around £43,000. However, VW UK has yet to confirm its own pricing and specification, which could differ. Both launch versions are limited to 27,000 units. Once they have sold, Volkswagen will focus on delivering more variants of the ID.4 throughout 2021. When entrylevel 52kWh cars land on sale, expect the price tag to drop

MOTORING SNIPPETS

I really do not know what gets into people sometimes. Two I encountered recently had no inkling they could have caused an accident.I was on my way to pull out of a south-bound lay-by near Gorey on the M/N11. I saw this car coming at speed in the same direction as my intended exit route. The young female driver overshot the lay-by entrance but came to a swerving halt at the outside of the exit as I drove towards it. The car was halfway on the hard shoulder and halfway on the main-road lane, dangerously protruding into the line of heavy traffic. Then out popped her male companion, opened the road-side door even wider and sat in to drive. Traffic was heavy. It was, dear reader, a scene made for an accident. Thank God nothing happened except I sprouted a few more grey hairs. But I could imagine what might have been. Those drivers could not. And that was scary. * ACCORDING to reports Renault is planning a major overhaul of its range. Key cars will be two new electric SUVs as well as “a renewed focus” on family cars. Its new partnership deal with Nissan involves more platform sharing and technology. The CMF-EV platform, which premiered on the newly unveiled Nissan Ariya electric large SUV, will also underpin Renault’s electric SUVs in the coming years. * NISSAN recently marked the production of the 500,000th Leaf electric car. The milestone arrived at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland nearly 10 years after the model first went on sale. More than 175,000 Leafs have been made at Sunderland since it began production of the EV in 2013. * I SHARE some of the sentiment in a recent, slightly bizarre, survey which found that a majority of drivers don’t trust their car’s infotainment system. As many as 63pc have a ‘trust’ issue, the British survey found. One-in-three say their system has ‘failed’ them while 49pc found it ‘distracting’. One-quarter said sat navs are the most distracting element. That’s the bit with which I concur. I don’t, however, see how 77pc find they are now more distracted by infotainment systems than five years ago. Strangely, the Rivervale Leasing survey also found that 63pc believe infotainment should be restricted while the car is in operation. What’s the point in having it if you only use it while parked? Weird. (Eddie Cunningham , Motoring Indo)

TESLA CYBERTRUCK UNLIKELY TO COME TO EUROPE , BUT A SMALLER VERSION COULD

After the dust had settled following the unveiling of the Tesla Cybertruck, two of the first questions many asked were: a) how will a vehicle that is nearly six metres long and over two metres wide work in countries with smaller roads than North America? And, b) how will such an angular vehicle make it past stringent European type approval, and pedestrian impact tests in particular? If Tesla boss Elon Musk’s latest comments are anything to go by, however, the answer to both of those questions is: it won’t. Speaking during a Q&A session at Tesla’s annual Battery Day conference, Musk said that while orders for the Cybertruck are “gigantic” at well over half a million, and he predicted production capacity to be “at least 250,000 to 300,000 a year, maybe more”, he also indicated the vehicle may well not make it past regulators outside the United States.”We are designing the Cybertruck to meet the American spec,” Musk said, “because if you try to design a car to meet the superset of all global requirements, it basically, you can’t make the cybertruck, it’s impossible.”Saying the Cybertruck “really is designed for the American market” as this is the world’s largest market for large pick-up trucks, Musk said Tesla is considering building a smaller version of the Cybertruck for countries without such wide roads. “We’ll probably make an international version of Cybertruck that will be kinda smaller, kind of like a tight Wolverine package”, Musk said. While no further details were given of what he meant by “Wolverine”, one of the heavy-lifting robots at Tesla’s factory in Fremont, California, is named after the X-Men character. Musk promised that any international Cybertruck that may emerge will “still be cool”, adding: “But it’ll be smaller, because you just can’t make a giant truck like that for most markets.” Friday 25th September 2020

CELEBRATIONS ONLY PART OF HUMAN NATURE: There was a lot of reaction following the celebrations at the end of the Tyrone County final. 400 are able to attend games in the North and in this one Dungannon won the title for the first time since 1956. And to make it more exciting the game ended in a penalty shoot-out. So you can imagine the joy for those players, managers and supporters. There were plenty of other finals on last Sunday and I am sure there were celebrations after those games as well. Maybe because there are 400 allowed over the border made the pitch invasion look more crowded. But can the authorities take away the joy of celebrating a big win or should they? Forget the intervention of Arlene Foster as the issue is being used to score political points. And yes it is in the protocols for the GAA and the FAI that this should not happen. However these players and fans had waited a lifetime to see their team win and no different from those in any club they were going to celebrate on the field. And yes we all know about the Covid situation and that we must be careful but just for those few minutes this exuberance can be forgiven. Listening to Professor Anthony Staines last night he said if people were going to do thing “they shouldn’t” they are much safer doing it in the open air. The return of sport has been great from the youngest ages to the seniors and has lifted the spirits of people all over the country. While the player and fans of Kilmoyley might not have gone as ‘wild’ as the normally would I hope they also celebrated their win. We see Premiership players celebrating their goals, rugby players enjoying their wins, GAA clubs all over the country winning County titles and that joy lifts us all – that is if we are supporting the winning side. Of course it’s a tough place to be if you are on the losing side as always. But for those few minutes after the final whistle let the players and supporters celebrate. This Sunday is a big day for Mid and East Kerry as they context the Garvey’s Senior Football Final. Those players and coaches have put in many hours to reach this final and will have adhered to all the protocols they have been asked to. There will only be a very small number of supporters in the Austin Stack Park so it will not be close to being the day of sights and sounds that a normal County final would be. But for those few minutes after the final whistle all that will disappear and the winning side will have that special feeling of joy that is rare. So if they celebrate a bit and if the few fans from their side that are in join them the let them. It will not make any difference to the spread of the virus. After those few minutes of joy they will go back to doing everything that they are being asked to do like the rest of us. NEILUS FLYNN CUP MOVES FROM CAUSEWAY TO KILMOYLEY: The winter in Kilmoyley hurling circles Friday 25th September 2020

will be a short one with the Garvey’s Senior Hurling Championship trophy residing in the clubhouse. But it was one by the narrowest of margins as they won 2-12 to 1-14 in a cracker. And the game was made even more exciting by the great commentary of Mike O’Halloran. However at half time it looked like they would win by a much bigger margin as they led 2-08 to 0-04 after dominating the first half. But Causeway were never going to lie down and they hit 1-2 early in the second half and the sides were level by the water break which certainly came at the right timed for Kilmoyley and the wrong time for Causeway. Amazingly 20 minutes had gone before the winner got their first score of the second half. Causeway hit two points to lead by 1 with four minutes to go. Into injury time and Daniel Collins was the hero as he put his side ahead by 2. Causeway got one back but their late effort fell just short with the Kilmoyley keeper saving the ball under the crossbar to secure the win. NO LUCK FOR PARNELLS BUT THEY CAN BE VERY PROUD OF THEIR SEASON: While the result didn’t go their way Tralee Parnells can look back on a historic season as they reached the Intermediate Championship final having only being granted senior status last year. When a group of volunteers including Mark Ryall, David Brick, Rory Kerins and Dermot Reen got together in 2012 to promote hurling and camogie in Tralee they probably didn’t expect such success in just a few years. But the club has gone from strength to strength, have some good sponsors on board and a dedicated membership and this will certainly not be their last final. However last Sunday is was their opponents Dr Crokes day as they took the win 2-15 to 0-14. The Parnells scorers on the day when everyone put is a big effort were Gearoid Doherty 0-6, Tadgh Brick and Darragh Reen 0-3 each, Luke Barrett and Cillian O’Riordan 0-1 each. In other club news in the u16’s Plate final St Brendan’s were a little too strong defeating Parnells 4-12 to 1-12. The boys did very well to reach the final and the club is looking forward to seeing how these players progress next season at minor level. The u14’sd bowed out of the County League going down to a high scoring defeat 6-09 to 5-14. They also had a challenge game to round off their season. In Camogie the u16’s saw off Sliabh Luachra while the two under 12 teams put in great efforts before just losing out in their semi-finals. The u10’s had a great win over Causeway. TRALEE TOWN BOARD NEWS: Mitchels and Stacks to meet for the Roddy O’Donnell Cup: The Lee Strand sponsored Tralee Town Board Roddy O’Donnell Senior Football Championship will be between John Mitchels and Austin Stacks.

In the first semi-final Mitchels were 3 point winners over Rahilllys 2-14 to 1-14 having led 1—05 to 0-04 at the break. Rahilly’s rallied started by a goal from the penalty spot by Ryan Carroll but after conceding 1-05 and losing a man to a black card the winners hit back to progress to the final to win in extra time. The other semi-final was a high scoring encounter with Austin Stacks defeating Ballymac 3-16 to 2-015. The final is on this Sunday in Austin Stack Park with the time to be confirmed at the time of going to print. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The Academy sessions continue for the youngest members of the club. For the u8’s and u10’s the Bracker Regan and the John Galvin Cup continues. The u10’s enjoyed the visits of the Mitchels and will host Firies this Sunday. Well done to the u12’s Team Black who won their Division of the County League with a great win over the Legion 4-06 to 0-10. The u14’s are also celebrating a County League win as they defeated Kilcummin in Kilcummin 5-10 to 1-08. The u14’s go to Sneem on Sunday while the training for the u16’s continues at the regular times. RAHILLY’S STORIES: The club is delighted with the seniors nailbiting progression to the Town Board final as a last minute goal in extra time gave them the win. The Academy boys and girls were delighted to welcome Milltown/Castleimaine for some friendly games at u6 and u8 boys and girls. The u12 girls were very unlucky to go down 2-06 to 3-05 to Austin Stacks in Round 2 of the Town League. The u14 and u16 Girls play Churchill in Round 1 on Sunday while the u14 Boys were 5-17 to 5-06 winners over Beaufort in their last County League game. The Minor Ladies are in the Division 4 League semi-final against Beale/ Ballyduff this Friday at 6.15pm. The Senior Ladies went down to Mitchels in the North Kerry League Round 2. BUSY 7 DAYS IN THE WATER: This past week saw 7 days of swimming in Tralee Bay with a number of records being broken. One of the big swims saw Margaret Gilbert and Hazel Wharton finishing their first Open Water Marathon Swim covering the 10.6km from Fenit to Blennerville Lock Gates in 3 hours 36 minutes. JOHN MOVES TO THE TOP OF THE BENCH: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors have announced that John Dowling will be the new Head Coach of the SuperLeague side taking over from Pat Price. Dowling is a vastly experienced coach having been assistant to Price and also leading Mounthawk to great success including an Irish title and is the perfect man to lead the side to further glory.

Kerry performers over the weekend. Causeway teenager Dean McElligott made his debut taking first in the Junior class at the East Cork Hot Rod Club sprint. His father Maurice was fourth in the Senior in the same category. On two wheels Ballyduff’s Anthony O’Carroll made the top ten in the Cookstown 100. TWO NIGHTS AT THE TRACK THIS WEEKEND: There is no racing this Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium but Saturday night is a busy one with 12 races starting at 7.44pm. The feature is the second rounds of the Stadium Supporters Club A3 525 yards stake with a winner’s prize of e3500. On Sunday the first of 10 races goes from traps at 6.35pm NO LUCK IN THE DERBY: With Kerry having three of the six dogs in the BoyleSports Irish derby there was hopes that the biggest trophy in the game might come back to the Kingdom. However the win went to Newinn Taylor. Things went wrong at the first bend for Pasdana and Ballymac Wild collided at the first bend. Thankfully Pasdana’s injury looks not to be too serious and Des Grace’s dog should be back on his feet very soon but probably won’t run again which is a big disappointment to all lovers of the sport.. Ballymac Cooper ran a good race to take third. ON THE GREENS: DUBLIN’S LEVEL 3 CALLS A HALT TO NATIONAL PITCH AND PUTT COMPETITIONS: Unfortunately for the countries Pitch & Putt players the moving of Dublin to Phase 3 of the Roadmap meant that players from that county are unable to travel to play in the National Competitions due to be played over the next two weeks. National PRO Jason O’Connor has said that they still hope to play these competitions once Dublin is re-opened but this will depend on how the Covid numbers go. GOLF NEWS: At the Tralee Golf Club the winner of the Master Classic was Gerard Deegan with Tom Egan and Shane McGibney in second and third. The Best Gross was won by Anton O’Callaghan while the top 5 was completed by Conor Stack and Donal Sugrue. The Division One to Four Prizes went to Gerard O’Sullivan, Cian Hussey, Kieran Rutledge and Paddy O’Donoghue. In the Ladies section the winners of the Wedensday September Fourball were Anne Kerins and Katrina Mehigan with Catherine McCarthy and Maura Shanahan in second.
