Chuse villa
In the middle of a coffee farm on the center highland, the owner wants to rebuild their house after three decades living in a shed. The main programme consists of a big common space, three bedrooms, a kitchen, and an art atelier. A concept for master landscape is also required.

The research of existing landscapes in different scales is combined with the architectural harmony, the water and soil management, the discovery walk and a vision how farms transform to forest after years. From that, we study how to place different zonings with a variety of botanic composition, ambiance, the relationship with domestic spaces and with horizon. We chose to keep all buildings in one storey and divide the function in different volumes spreading over the landscape. The volumes- covered with painting mixed local bazan soil and recycled alupaper-panels - create a dialogue between ground, plants and sky

Vista apartment renovation in collaboration with NHABE SCHOLAE A couple of artists asked our office to renovate their newly acquired 2-bedroom apartment in District 2, Hochiminh city. Our main idea was to reorganize the living space by integrating the kitchen and dining space into a single volume of light and ambiance. As the natural light inside is soft and indirect most of the time due to the building’s orientation, we opted for a raw, dark atmosphere with bare concrete to contrast with and bring forth the looming reflection on the metal surface. The touch of plywood panels is researched for its warm color. The bathrooms were remade to allow more light and air. The furniture was chosen for its simplicity and generosity, with a mid-century spirit.

COMPETITION| Collectif and autonomy living space for elderly people| team work
The elderly occupy 24% of the French population, 8% of whom are dependent and need special medical care. In order not to interfere with their children and facilitate medical care, many elderly people decide to move to retirement homes or EHDAPs. In parallel with the increase in needs, these reception facilities are increasingly improved in terms of spatial comfort as well as services, activities with the aim of creating a better place for residents. They are not only looking for good spaces or care but also the connection with the society, the support of the personal projects of the residents during their last years of life. However, the change of place of life according to their situation causes psychological problems because they have difficulty to appropriate with the new environment, new community.

Along the industrial canal Albert (Antwerp), the Kronenburg district introduces an incoherent mixture of two urban units: a declining business park and an adjacent socially disadvantaged neighborhood. Since 2014, the Kronenburg business park has been involved in a major renovation project for the canal’s industrial sectors. Existing brownfields in the pre-restructuring situation evoke several issues, both for the city, the owners, residents and local residents. In this project, I would like to address the “time-between” wasteland - the waiting period for urban or real estate projects that are coming in the futur. How to invent an experimental approach in order to occupy temporarily the vacant spaces awaiting project, both to fill up the lack of space in the city and to constitute a transition factor of the place, its image, its uses, and so its future? Today, we tend to move from a extreme planning urbanism to a more local and more coordinated urbanism, which generates new ways of making the city. My studies have shown that temporary occupations, when they develop in a favorable legal condition and with appropriate programming can become a lever of revitalization of the district and contribute to the prefigure of the spaces of tomorrow. This approach - what we call transient urban planning - makes for a more suitable, more sustainable city.

This work doesn’t intend to lead to neither a definitive program nor concrete spatial treatments. The objective is to raise the questions, the reflections on the situation of the industrial wastelands in the city, to make appear the stakes, the potentials and the possibles of the temporary occupation by proposing appropriate methods, tools for the current situation. This work could then be put on the table as a basis for discussion between all the actors involved (public authorities, the local community, landowners, businesses, inhabitants, associations, ...). It is from there that the project continues to evolve and starts.

The operation is particular in the sense that there is a lot of parameter that implies, it is the financial capacity, the evolution of needs, the results of the experimentation and especially the change of the environment. The project in this case is a process of the installation in which to evolve the program as well as the scale of the intervention. Here I propose 4 main phases of the life of the temporary occupations: Activation, Development, Adaptation, Retreat
Reactivate vacant spaces and let people discover this new territory by installing dynamic interfaces on spaces in direct contact with the existing urban space, to start urban practice experiments in vacant plots, to create access to the wharf to encourage discovery.

The Maison des Métallos located at 94 Rue Timbaud is a place steeped in history. Formerly Couesnon in the 19th century, it is transformed place of syndicalisme of Metallurgists and finally cultural institution of Paris.

It is a place where all forms of creation coexist. It creates a real scenic place, exhibition, workshops and conviviality opening to the neighborhood and the city. Around the theaters, exhibition halls, rehearsal rooms, cafe are developed the workshops of theater, dance, music, plastic arts, conference rooms, debates, digital pole and new technologies, ... The Maison des Métallos relies on neighborhood structures such as social centers and develops close connection with the inhabitants.

The morphology of the building extends the public space inside to give more conviviality to the spaces of the Maison and at the same time to offer to this dense urban fabric an enjoyable public space. Taking advantage of the condensation of cultural and artistic associative spaces, the central courtyard of the building is transformed into a kind of “open-air theater” which provides a distinctive platform of living performance to the neighborhood’s amateurs. The major spaces of the building then develop around this public heart. The configuration of the ensemble seeks to create links between the city and building, between amateurs and professionals.

The Grand Paris Express (GPE) comes to densify an already dense territorial network. Line 15 connects the two branches of the GPE, it is a shortcut between the polarities of Nord-St Denis Pleyel and South Orly. Surrounded by two strategic stations of the Greater Paris network (Val de Fontenay and Champigny), the Nogent-Le Perreux station is a station with exclusively local and secondary influence of the network. The city closes on itself with a stable demography, most of which work in Paris. For this dormitory town, Nogent Le Perreux is a departure station in the morning and back in the evening, a “place of exclusive mobility” In wishing to revitalize the city, the authorities have made an intention to the station and the surrounding area that have full potential to become a counterpoint to begin experiments. The station is considered as a connection between urban units, a gateway to the city. This district therefore functions as a center from which the city’s policy is spread, a lever for the restructur-
ing of the population as well as the development of economic activities. The new intermodal station must therefore be part of a city-wide urban policy. By promoting new young populations, the gathering of associative activities, the city can become more attractive for the population and for investors. The station should not just a physical center where we cross but also a social center, a place where we can stay, meet, exchange. The configuration of the station adopts a mobility scheme that intertwines the functional path (rapid change between modes of mobility) and the dynamic path (route of activities) to encourage passengers to use activities, strengthen exchanges during travel . The station creates a continuity of urban space enhanced by a density of programs to transform a physical obstacle to a link between two cities.

Inter-scale cohabitation ACADEMIC PROJECT|Social housing
The purpose of the project is to design a set of social housing on an industrial island to be converted in the future. Working in a group of 4 people, we first looked for general urban strategies and principles of geometry from site analyzes. Then, each one takes care of a parcel, answers the stakes on several different scales: that of block, that of the building and that of the housings respecting the common principles and the taking into account of the neighboring constructions. The configuration of the project opts for visual and physical permeability, which improves the sunshine and ventilation of all built blocks. The hierarchical distribution spaces in several scales, enhanced by the vegetation and the neighborhood atmosphere offer the possibilities of meetings and social contacts. In housing articulation, attention is paid to the search for diversity of types and the best orientation for lighting and vis-Ă -vis.

9 x 9 x 9 ACADEMIC PROJECT | living space
On an abstract site of 27m by 27m, we had to determine a site occupation strategy to position two walls and a cube of 9m aside to design the interior spaces of the cube taking into account the elements of the abstract context. The cube represents a “house” consisting of five spaces corresponding to 5 uses: a space “to wash”, two spaces “to rest”, a space “to meet” and a space to “feed”. Focusing on the spatial dimension of these uses was particularly interesting since it allowed us to think of usage in its ideality. This is work focused on the articulation of spaces, the use of light, walls, furniture and concepts of modern language such as double height, the spinning ceiling, the luminous wall, the large space, the depth of space, the phenomenal transparency, etc.

NATURAL LIGHT AS ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENT

The project is a case study of the design of the space in relation to the program and the users. The notions of context and structure are approached in a rather conceptual way. The project is structured around three key ideas (the diagonal, the axial and the complementarity of the built and non-built spaces) and on two different scales (that of the classroom and the site).

The two major spaces of the school sequence forecourt-hall and playground are located at both ends (Nord-West and South-East) of the parcel and connected by a diagonal. In the central heart, on the crossing of the axes, the hall and the amphitheater allows the development in the height of the center of the school, connecting the administration and the common uses on the floor with the spaces of the children on the ground floor. With this project, we wanted to offer a great diversity of small spaces in order to give an urban dimension to our building. It’s to create a village for children. Self-generating on a proliferative mode from the base unit: the class, the school creates a hierarchy of shared spaces without defining the boundary between them. The space continues and generates a variety of the sequences of use and perception. The volumetry of the entire project evokes that of a casbah intermingling interior spaces and semi-outdoor space.

8x16 living space study In the typical row house, due to the adjacency with the neighbor, solutions for sunlight and natural ventilation are alway a challenge. Inner courtyard or “light well� is a common structure used in the town house concept for a better qualitative living space. But a rigid adaptation for a density of required functions usually leads to a mini centered hole that nature finds difficult to penetrate in. In this case study, the research of void articulation opens a way for solving this challenge. Instead of a single void, a multiple overlapped mini voids spread over the floor to let all inner space in contact with the natural light and leave many possibilities for air circulation.

The island of tranquility living space study In the big town of Vietnam, the decades post-war under a free urbanism policy faced an spontaneous expansion of urban fabric without any master plan or a construction principle: houses were built with personal aesthetics of their owners, roads were the result of left-space for circulation after the houses took their part. We are now living in an urban space sometimes messy and incomprehensible. This case study house is at the same time a manifestation and an adaptation. The living space looks for a purest architectural language: an easy understanding plan with a well calculated visual transparency and privacy; color code for the definition of function: dark blue for humid place, rose magenta for circulation, white for resting place. The house is closed from the neighborhood to build its own domestic sphere and opened inside for sunlight, air, rain falling down. People come home, forget the messy life to enjoy their island of tranquility.
