TRANSPORTATION CULTURE & BELIEFS Arabic is the National Language but it’s very easy to communicate and navigate Dubai without any major language barriers. Government departments, taxi drivers, store staff and hotel workers are very well versed in English, making traversing Dubai almost as easy as in an English-speaking home country. There is also a large expat population from all corners of the globe and as a result, a wide variety of languages is understood. However, trying to master a few basic phrases in Arabic is a nice way to show respect to local culture and traditions. The traditional greeting between Emirati men involves exchanging kisses on the cheek, or connecting with each other by the tip of the nose. Emirati women greet each other with multiple kisses on the cheek. This greeting can be exchanged only among the same gender. ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT

ndia is a country with a population of 1.25 billion, at least one-fourth of which would be die-hard Bollywood fans. To meet the taste of this huge population, India churns out almost 1000 movies every year, of which atleast 250-300 are from the Bollywood cinema factory. The Bollywood craze is not confined to India alone,

but it has touched people all over the world. Bollywood movies are released internationally on the same day and run to packed houses across the world. Understandably, Dubai has touched upon the right cord by catering to this taste of its cosmopolitan citizens as well as the visitors. Dubai is all set to welcome you to the enchanting Bollywood Park opening in October 2016, where you can experience a world completely influenced by the Bollywood blockbusters. The park has five massive zones – Royal Plaza, Bollywood Boulevard, Rustic Ravine, Mumbai Chowk and Bollywood Film Studios. At Royal Plaza, you can visit Rajmahal Theatre, which is the first Broadway-style Bollywood musical in Dubai where dancers groove to Bollywood numbers. At Bollywood Boulevard you will be greeted by live entertainment with music and dance from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Also, you get to make a trip to rustic India as you move into Rustic Ravine and be a part of the world that revolves around movies like Sholay, Lagaan, and Dabangg. Mumbai Chowk takes you to the streets of Mumbai abounding in food, fun and shopping along with a thrilling 3D media ride through the Dubai streets to chase a mafia Don. Bollywood Film Studios featuring the Hall of Heroes gives you an opportunity to meet your favourite characters like Krrish and RA.One and learn the tricks of making blockbusters like Zindagi Na MilegiDobara. Other attractions are Lagaan – Champaner Cricket Carnival, Sholay – The Hunt for Gabbar Singh, Rangmanch, Krrish Hero’s Flight, Cinema Circle Stage and Laagan Thrill of Victory. KITE SURFING DUBAI SAFARI

ETIHAD MUSEUM

I

t is October and it is still summer time in Dubai even though the temperatures might be dropping ever so slightly each day, we can enjoy a few more weeks by the beach. And time at the beach could be to work on your tan, to flaunt the gym workouts you have been working on, brunching and partying at the weekends or

just relaxing, having a picnic or reading a book or two. However all these ideas aside we have one activity that can combinescould mean you could work on your tan, workout and have fun at the same time, plus it is addictive.

DUBAI WATER CANAL

Living or visiting Dubai during the summer gives you the ideal opportunity to check out the countless beaches on offer. We are blessed to be just by the breath-taking Arabian ocean so a trip to the beach needs to be on your list and so should kite surfing. You might have heard that is an extreme water sport, and yes it is as it provides exhilaration and freedom once

DUBAI FRAME

you get the hang of it but it is a lot of fun more than anything else. There are many instructors in Dubai and a fairly large group of surfers living in Dubai so the technology and equipment to enjoy the sport is very accessible not to mention affordable. It is also a good sport to experience with your friends, family and even kids. There are many websites that provide information on kitesurfing so reading up about it, getting advice or arranging classes are easy. Once you are armed with information, here are some beaches you could head to, to see what the hype is all about. Some beaches that you can try out the sport include Jebel Ali Beach located South of the Jebel Ali Hotel. The hotel has a water sports club that provide classes and equipment rental. Meanwhile Black Palace Beach is a large open beach on Umm Suqeim road, however Kite Beach on the same road is the most popular and gets very crowded. A good location to go with your family would be the Sunset Beach, it has a good mix of swimmers and other water sports users so you can enjoy a full day out at this beach. If you live more towards Sharjah, then we suggest Mamzar Beach. Some of the schools we suggest include the Surf House, where you can try kite surfing surfaris, yoga, shop and much more. Get in touch on info@surfingdubai.com, +971 50 5043020 or visit www.surfingdubai.com. Another school to try out if DuKite, operating since 2005 with IKO certification. id you know that there is one place on the earth where you can experience time travel through the trails of food exploration? You will find yourself magically transported to the golden 1950s when Rock N Roll first made its appearance and TV sets were just starting to become popular. The throwback ambiance that

The Last Exit Food Truck Park is a unique attraction in Dubai that recreates the nostalgia and settings of the 1950s service stations. A perfect re-creation of the last mid-century service station and food truck ambiance, the Last Exit Food Truck Park is spread over 16,150 square feet. The Last Exit is apermanent home to more than ten retro food trucks and also has some retails shops and a children’s play area. Alternately, you could go over to the sit-down canteen and rest your feet while you sit on barrel stools and eat on rustic wooden tables. The settings of the indoor dining area are reminiscent of a 1950s car repair garage with old tyres, wrought iron artefacts, and vintage car posters forming the décor. Apart from being practically useful for catching up on some food and rest while travelling by road between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, The Last Exit is also a great food exploration spot. More than 12 popular restaurants of UAE have a presence, ranging from a Coffee Shops to Seafood Restaurant and everything in between. The full list of food trucks at The Last Exit include Starbucks, Burger Pit, Big Smoke Burger, The Brass, Poco Loco, Operation Falafel, Urban Seafood, Baja Fresh, The Hot Dog Stand, and Clinton St. Baking Company along with an all-day Mini Mart. Try to purchase as many items as possible from the same vendor as you are more likely to get a good discount this way. Be friendly and light-hearted, bargaining is best treated as a game and if it looks like you aren’t going to achieve your desired result then justwalk away. Take time to browse rather than purchasing on impulse. Often the best deals are to be had further inside the markets where the shops are less visible and receive less custom. Carry cash and small bills to Flea markets as credit/ debit cards won’t usually be accepted. Also carry a pair of sunglasses and some water to stay hydrated in the hot sun as you browse.

The way the developers have combined contemporary Dubai with the influences of charming London and European is nothing short of awesome. Its location on Safa Road between Al Wasl Road and Shaikh

Zayed Road at the Dubai Mall interchange, is ideal as no matter where in the city you might be residing, you can visit City Walk either for breakfast, lunch or dinner and have a great time. It’s the latest and ultimate place for dining and shopping that looks like it’s an outside community rather than a mall. There are subtle hints of British icons such as a genuine Royal Mail post box, denoted “GR” from the reign of King George VI, and a traditional British red phone box.

teaming cups of coffee laid out with succulent dates and crunchy dry fruits are sure to greet you in any Arabic household of the Levant or Middle East countries. Variationsin the wafting aroma of the coffee have their roots in the roasting process –beans are roasted from very light to medium to dark to very dark. To add

a touch of the Oriental charm, they are served in traditional coffee pots called Dallahs made from silver, copper, brass, tin,and even gold. Dallahs are considered to have originated between 13th and 15th century or later. A Dallah is an integral part of Bedouin tradition where serving coffee is a gesture of hospitality and generosity. People usually sat over cups of coffee served from Dallahs to discuss thenews of faraway lands. Dallahs today find aplaceon only special occasions relating to births, deaths, and marriages. Once a symbol of pride and wealth,Dallah occupies a place of honour in many public artworks as well as the Emirati one-Dirham coin. The bottom of the Dallah is bulbous, and its shape gradually tapers and broadens again at the top. The dome-shaped lid has a finial at the peak, and the spout is shaped somewhat like the crescent moon. A curved handle helps pour out the Arabic magic – the coffee called Qahwa and Khaleeji, the spicy bitter variety. Traditionally,Dallahs were crafted by hand from three sheets of metal using hammers, mallets, and drills. Dallahs come in two style - Chabsa, the simple version, and Gurayshia, the more detailed one. Theyare often decorated

Aquatherapy is recommended in cases where a land-based exercise program is not feasible owing to various factors, such as intensity of pain, low bone density, or disability. The Since Aquatherapy is a flexible exercise

conditions - water based exercises tend to be gentle and much more comfortable. Aquatherapy exercise program offers similar benefits like the land-based exercise programs. It includes a tailored treatment plan : 209, Pinnacle Bldg Al Barsha 1 : +971 4 399 0550 : 09.00 AM to 06.00 PM / Fri - Closed Ayurvedic Treatment / Yoga

designed as per individual needs, which helps in achieving desired results. The reason why Aquatherapy exercises deliver promising results is because water gives the body natural buoyancy - the ability to float freely. Buoyancy lessens the pull of gravity and impact on the body which makes it easier for people to perform the exercises in water compared to land. Water also improves muscle flexibility and motion and the massaging effects of water allow muscles to relax which in turn helps to reduce pain. How Aquatherapy Helps You? When done correctly, Aquatherapy can:
