QUESTIONS TO BE ASKED PLURALISM IN MUSIC GAIN STRUCTURE SIGNAL FLOW NAVIGATING SELFJUDGEMENT DURING THE CREATIVE PROCESS

How can a producer best utilize limited/cheap technology and software to create quality music? To what extent do artistic “risks” like collaboration and genre fusion pay off for up-andcoming producers? How can artistic identity manifest itself in a series of beeps and boops? At what point does music become sound? Is there even a difference? Does music require tonal sound to be enjoyable? What kind of equipment (synthesizers, modulators etc.) are suited best for home production? What are the drawbacks of home production? Advantages?

How do identity politics contribute to not only the music itself, but its capacity to be consumed by listeners? How is it possible to create something unique and enticing from my laptop when everyone uses the same technology? What are the limits or downfalls to making music electronically? How do producers address these limitations and work around them? What role do mixing and mastering engingeer(s) play in the world of electronic music? Are they necessary or just stylistic choices?

CONFERENCE LOCATION

INTENDED AUDIENCE

CONCEPT 01: IN THE MIX GET DOWN AND DIRTY WITH THE MASTERS OF THE MIX — FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME.

I decided to hold this conference virtually through zoom. I found this to be the best option because of the conference’s emphasis on diy and independent artists; listening and following along from their home studios would be a very education and hands-on experience.

This conference those who work with music and sound for a living (singer/songwriters, producers, mixing/mastering engineers, DJs). The conference focuses on electronic music, but artists of any genre would benefit from the production-based content.

MAXIMALIST HIGH-ENERGY LOUD

Being confined in place for over year has not been easy for musicians. “In the Mix” gives musicians, producers and DJs the chance to hone their skills in the hopes that when they hit the stage once more, they’ll be back better than ever.

CONCEPT 02: SIGNAL AND FLOW

SCIENTIFIC TECHNICAL ATTENTIVE

CONCEPT 03: SOUND AND SELF

THE CLICK OF A SWITCH CAN CHANGE YOUR FLOW. ARE YOU IN CONTROL?

WHAT MAKES YOU TICK IS WHAT MAKES YOUR MUSIC TICK.

Music production software is daunting, especially to those with no background in audio engineering. Master the little details that elevate your music from good to great.

Music is the ultimate form of self expression. A musicians best outcome is not what took him the longest to produce, but what is an honest representation of their personality, taste, and sense of self. Explore the possibilities of expressing yourself through sound with the masters.

INTROSPECTIVE CALM EMOTIONAL

CONCEPT 04: MIX MASTER

CONCEPT 05: I-LECTRONICA THE ACT OF MAKING MUSIC IS INHERENTLY ARTISANAL.

AUSTERE INTELLIGENT NICHE

Sifting through the loads of music production technology, both software and hardware, is daunting in itself. The mix masters will talk everything technical: equipment, programs, studio set ups, speakers, etc.

INDIVIDUALISTIC HAND-MADE CRAFT

Whether your strumming strings, clicking keys or turning knobs, the act of making music is inherently artisanal. Get your hands dirty and hone your craft.

CONCEPT 06: IN-HOUSE

CONCEPT OVERVIEW:

HOW OLD TRENDS IN ELECTRONIC MUSIC CAN BE RECYCLED INTO SOMETHING GROUND-BREAKING

INNOVATIVE CLEVER SUSTAINABLE

Electronic music exists in cycles, constantly being reinterpreted and reimagined by new generations of talented music thinkers. Our best ideas do not come to us in a vacuum; let the great work that came before you inspire, not discourage.
