LA DOLCE VITA The Season October to May By Bill Dougherty

People are talking about the smashing success for Childhelp Drive the Dream. The bash chaired by the dark and attractive Ivy Ciolli and tawny Tracy Katz, made a ton of money for child abuse. Everyone was there. When I saw Carolyn Jackson enter, looking like a thinner version of movie star Anita Eckberg from the film La Dolce Vita, I was disappointed. If only we had been in the grand ballroom, Carolyn could have easily slipped out and sauntered into the new and very controversial fountains on the lawn, beckoning her husband Craig to follow. We can only dream. The big news is that Jimmy Walker of Celebrity Fight Night fame and founder has sold his empire to Stacie and Dick Stephenson. Are you surprised? No, you’re not! Anyway, we know the Stephensons will put their Midas touch on the event and take it to the next galaxy! Beth McRae and Oscar de Las Salas are chairing an Evening of Trends on October 23 at Montelucia. This is the same night as Moondance at the Heard Museum. We’ll get to them in a sec. Hold on tight. These two are going to blow the Trends event out of the water. You get the picture.

Elsewhere, Jill and Wick Pilcher threw open the doors of their magnificent home to kick of Moondance at the Heard. Remember this is the same night of the Trends event, so choose wisely. Both will get equal coverage. Everyone was at the Pilcher’s! The gala will be chaired by Jan Cacheris and Marilyn Harris, two of my favorite Trendsetters. Stay tuned there’s always more. From everyone at Trends and the Trends Charitable Fund, we hope you have a much better summer than you did last year. We’ll see you back here in late September. GOTCHA! Beware! A wanton and largely ignored Paradise Valley housewife is at it again. Apparently, she likes to invite handsome and very married men to her sprawling estate when their wives are away. After several cocktails, she leaves her husband in the library and shows her guest the couple’s opulent home. Let’s just say that the tour doesn’t end Continued on page 12 up back in the library. Two drinks and she turns into Joan Collins.

A RECORD-SETTING $6.5 MILLION RAISED IN ONE NIGHT AS

Dr. Stacie J. Stephenson is Honored as

Childhelp’s 2021 Woman of the World Philanthropist and bestselling author joins Oprah Winfrey, Kathie Lee Gifford, Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, Nancy Reagan and Melani Walton in receiving prestigious award at 17th Annual Star-Studded Drive the Dream Gala benefitting the non-profit dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse; Arizona Governor Doug Ducey spoke at the event, which set a new fundraising record for the state. Childhelp, the non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse, honored Dr. Stacie J. Stephenson with the prestigious Woman of the World award on Saturday, May 15 at the 17th Annual Drive the Dream Gala at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix. “The VibrantDoc,” philanthropist and author of the instant bestseller VIBRANT: A Groundbreaking Program to Get Energized, Own Your Health, and Glow (BenBella; Pub Date: March 23, 2021), joins Oprah, Kathie Lee Gifford, First Ladies Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, and Nancy Reagan, and most recently, Melani Walton, as recipient of this highly regarded honor. Dr. Stephenson and her husband Richard J Stephenson, founder and chairman of Cancer Treatments of America, are longtime supporters of the organization, and have served as chairs at both the 2017 Drive the Dream Gala as well as Childhelp’s 60th Anniversary celebration in 2019. To further kick off this year’s festivities, they arrived at the historic Arizona Biltmore Hotel, an official Phoenix Point of Pride, in a custom horse and carriage. The event drew actors, musicians, and other celebrities in support of Childhelp’s programs and services, which have benefitted 11 million children over more than 62 years. The star-studded gala was emceed by actress Melissa Peterman, included performances by Josh Groban and Flo Rida, and raised $6.5 Million for Childhelp’s facilities and services, setting a new state record for fundraising in Arizona. Notable attendees included actor Dolph Lundgren, fashion designer Zang Toi, beloved Dancing with the Stars couple Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd, and singer Loren Allred. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey shared his thoughts with the audience, who went on to raise a record-setting $6.5 Million for the cause. “I’m truly honored to receive this award, particularly in light of the incredible, inspiring, and selfless women who’ve received it before me, and thrilled to partner with an organization that does so much good across the world from right here in Arizona” said Dr. Stephenson. “My goal as Woman of the World is to use my voice to promote awareness of the serious issues surrounding child abuse and neglect. To follow in the footsteps of such courageous women is a privilege, and an opportunity that I do not take for granted.”

“The COVID-19 pandemic has made it more important than ever to shine a light on the disturbing prevalence of child abuse and neglect,” said Childhelp Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO Sara O’Meara. “Since the pandemic began, we’ve seen a 46% increase in volume to our Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline, at a time when it’s harder than ever for mandatory reporters to assist. We are honored to work with The VibrantDoc Stacie J. Stephenson to raise awareness of this issue and fight on behalf of the most vulnerable Americans.” Childhelp Co-Founder, Vice-Chairman and President Yvonne Fedderson added, “Stacie J. Stephenson has been a longtime supporter of Childhelp, and we’re truly honored to have her strength, intelligence, and generous spirit working in support of our cause. Each successive Woman of the World has been more impressive than the last, and we look forward to the next stage of Childhelp’s work, with the help of The VibrantDoc” For more information about The VibrantDoc Dr. Stacie Stephenson, VIBRANT, and the Woman of the World Award, visit vibrantdoc.com.

SPOTLIGHT: PHOENIX ART MUSEUM

Fashion’s Subversives From June 5 through November 28, 2021, Fashion’s Subversives at Phoenix Art Museum presents nearly 40 examples of garments and accessories – from the humble denim jean to the scandalous bikini – that broke from culturally accepted norms and forever changed popular fashion and the fashion industry. Created as a complementary exhibition to the special-engagement exhibition Fearless Fashion: Rudi Gernreich, which is organized and circulated by the Skirball Cultural Center, Los Angeles, the exhibition features designs by Yves St. Laurent, Geoffrey Beene, Giorgio di Sant’ Angelo, Paco Rabanne, Balenciaga, Rudi Gernreich, Diane von Furstenburg, and others that amplify the concepts of revolution, resistance, and authenticity through fashion. “These designers thumbed their noses at the idea of conforming to traditional standards of popular fashion and were uninterested in anticipating the newest trends,” said Helen Jean, the Museum’s Jacquie Dorrance Curator of Fashion Design. “Instead, they sought to create something entirely new, something that people had never seen before, and this exhibition celebrates those moments of going against the grain in big and small ways to challenge long-held views of propriety, beauty, and taste.” For more information on Fashion’s Subversives, visit phxart.org/exhibition/fashions-subversives/

COMPANY PROFILE: DUKES WINE

A Family Dynasty on Fine Wines I can remember our first Christmas back together again. It seemed that nothing had changed: loud laughter, music playing, the smell of my grandmother’s gumbo, and me sitting back thinking I’ve missed this. In that moment, my grandfather, Sie Dukes, shoved a glass of his wine in my face saying, “taste that, but go easy it’ll put you on your back if you’re not careful.” The 35 years Sie spent perfecting this grand fruit wine recipe, triggered my pallet and left me with different questions as I drank my glass of wine: “Has this wine always been this good? If so, why haven’t we established a winery yet? What do I need to do to get this wine in the hands of the public?” Shortly after finishing that glass of wine, I found myself in a four-hour conversation with my grandfather learning all the tricks of the trade. I wanted to know how to make this wine and how he started. The conversation could have gone on for another five hours, but I did not take heed to my grandfather’s statement when he first said “Go easy.” In those four hours, my grandfather explained to me how he was taught how to make great wine by some vintners down in New Orleans where he was both raised and perfected his gift in playing the blues guitar. Sie spent most of his days at a nightclub earning money playing his guitar with his blues band. That night club made their profit from serving drinks to all who came to listen. When they would run short on meeting their quota for the month, the workers and

musicians would deliver fresh milk and wine to locals. Sie figured he could make some extra cash doing all the deliveries before it was time for his band to play. Fatefully, some of the locals he delivered wine and milk to changed his life. A group of middle-aged farmers would regularly buy a bunch of wine from the nightclub. One day, my curious grandfather decided that on his next delivery to this group he would ask them why they ordered so much wine. Little did he know that resolution would serve as the inception of a family legacy. The next morning, Sie Dukes picked up his two cases of wine from the nightclub and made it to his stop right on time for his wine delivery. The moment he saw his customers coming out of their barn house for their pickup, he asked; “Why do you all order so much wine?” One of the middle-aged fellows responded, “come to the back and let me show you!” The man explained that they were farmers who specialized in oenology (wine making) and that they ordered wine from this nightclub in order to taste their competitors’ wine. Sie pleaded with this vintner to show him his craft until he acquiesced and shortly after relocated to Los Angeles, California where he would later experiment with other seasonal fruits. The birth of Dukes Wine was finally created by Deon Dukes and incorporated in 2017. Deon Dukes over the summer of 2017 spent the interim time incubating salable and sustainable business and marketing

16

strategies. Through this incubation process, Deon Dukes cultivated a diverse product line of fruit wine. 2020 was originally a year of expansion for the company with in-person tasting events planned in San Francisco, Central California and Los Angeles, however, the restrictions imposed by Covid-19 forced the team to pivot toward video-based virtual tastings to spread brand and product awareness. On the other end of Covid, the team is looking to explore how to integrate reopening plans with the evolving business that has adapted to a virtual world. To this day, on every holiday, there is live music played by all my family members along with our assortment of fruit wines, traditional California Pinot Noir, Merlot and Chardonnay. My vision will bring this sentiment to the entire world; family tradition of laughter, music, fellowship and some good old wine – Dukes Wine!

COMPANY PROFILE: TAORMINA GOURMET INTERNATIONAL FOODS

Runways, Extreme Sports and Amazing Sauce What is your background? Franco – My background is in business management, health and fitness and restaurants. I was previously an international model/actor for 15 years. Owner of Taormina Gourmet Int’l Foods. Katherine – International model/actor for 30 years, insurance broker, appraisal management for real estate and Co-owner of Taormina Gourmet Int’l Foods. What gave you the idea for your company? From award winning restaurants, to training doctors, nurses and athletes for a living, everyone complained about how much sugar, preservatives and GMOs were in pasta sauces. Katherine and I researched labels by going to grocery stores and reading labels and realized how incredibly unhealthy jarred sauces were. Our goal was to create a healthy sauce that tastes great with the highest quality products at an affordable price. What does your company do for charity? Katherine’s dad is a retired Army Colonel and we currently have family serving today. One of our most important philanthropic goals is helping our veterans that have sacrificed so much fighting for our freedoms. We regularly participate in local events as well as online charities to help raise funding for support and assistance to veterans. What sets your sauces apart from the norm? NO SUGARS, ONLY FRESHLY hand chopped ingredients from local farmers and we use the finest quality tomatoes – The San Marzano; which are the least acidic tomatoes in the World! We are able to provide a sauce that is healthy for diabetics and people who suffer from acid reflux. It’s also NON GMO, gluten free and vegan. Our sauce offers a healthy fresh

tasting alternative in pasta sauces that we like to say is the “next best thing to homemade” in a jar. Tell us where we can get your products? Aj’s Fine Foods, Whole Foods, select Bashas locations, Le Grande Orange, Luci’s, Artist’s Kitchen Shop in Sedona, as well as other specialty stores across the country. You can also find us at local farmer’s markets. What made you change careers and do this? Katherine and I reconnected 18 years after first meeting on a modeling job. We realized how much we both enjoy good food and love cooking together to come up with new recipes and perfecting old ones. After living in Europe, we realized how important farm to table was to having a healthier lifestyle and wanted to be a part of it. So, we ventured into creating healthy pasta sauces. We’re passionate about what we do and there’s nothing more rewarding then having a customer tell you how you’ve changed their lives. What are your hobbies? We both enjoy trail running, camping, travel, the ocean, cooking, spending time with our kids, family and friends. What 7 people living, or dead would you invite to your dinner party (ladies first?) Katherine – Harrison Ford, Doris Day, John Candy, Sabastian Maniscalco, Sophia Loren, Abe Lincoln, Denzel Washington Franco – Jack LaLanne, George Washington, Sabastian Maniscalco, Wayne Gretzky, Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Meryl Streep

COMPANY PROFILE: MICAMP SOLUTIONS

Creating a Global Giant The visionary team behind Scottsdale’s MiCamp Solutions You may not have specifically heard of MiCamp Solutions, but there’s a good chance you’ve used its technology. The Scottsdale-based company is a technology disrupter and financial problem-solver, creating unique payment processing solutions. If you’ve ever purchased anything, at some point you’ve probably done business with a merchant who utilizes a MiCamp solution. It’s also a company with a heart, and one that always has its customers at heart, as well as its community. Micah Kinsler, Gary Jeppesen, and Phil Hoolehan Micah Kinsler has been an entrepreneur since age 13 when he launched a landscape business, and then grew it to include several employees. Kinsler has always had an uncanny ability for envisioning, reinventing, and launching companies that met a perceived need. By the end of 2006, he saw another need, driven by personal experience. A business owner, he realized he was getting crushed by credit card fees. So, true to his nature and entrepreneurial drive, he decided to do something about it – and in 2007, MiCamp Solutions was launched. Kinsler’s vision was a financial technology firm that could offer secure payment processing solutions while helping its customers maximize their profits. But MiCamp is more than just about growth. A family man, and fiercely loyal, Kinsler – MiCamp’s president – is adamant that the company he founded makes a difference for the customers it works with, is ethical, and makes an impact. To that end, it’s no surprise that the company has also been a nominee of the prestigious BBB Torch Awards for Ethics, among many other awards. In fact, MiCamp is one of the fast-growing and award-winning payment companies in the United States, helping 17,000 clients worldwide, processing $9 billion a year, and working with 400 independent service organizations. It is also in the Top 5 Fiserv ISO, Chairman’s Circle. There are multiple locations around the country, and it was recently named for the second time to the Inc. 5000, ranking 2,542 – halving its rank from the previous year. The company’s incredible growth from a start-up with four employees to a global giant is fueled not only by Kinsler’s vision, but the additions of Gary Jeppesen, COO, and Phil Hoolehan, CFO. Gary leads our operations and has an extensive background in finance and technology. Phil oversees the finance team and is also heavily involved in MiCamp’s mergers and acquisitions strategy. The three complement each other in regards to the skills they bring, and all share the same ethics and vision – it’s always what’s best for the customers, the employees, and then the company.

26

Working together, Kinsler, Jeppesen, and Hoolehan, along with the rest of the employees, have built a company that is changing lives. Today MiCamp offers cutting-edge payment solutions; custom payment software solutions; and a revolutionary, zero-percent processing solution called WavIt that has saved numerous businesses from closing its doors during the pandemic. To date, WAVit has saved their customers $362 million dollars in processing fees and counting. MiCamp Solutions is a vision that’s come to realization – but even with all of its success, Kinsler isn’t stopping there. He, along with Jeppesen, Hoolehan, and everyone else involved with MiCamp Solutions, continues to innovate in order to provide the best, most cutting-edge and helpful solutions, and highest costumer service. “I just saw a need, and wanted to make a difference,” Kinsler says. Mandi Bonicelli As director of the MiCamp’s ISO Channel Bonicelli oversees her team on the day-to-day sales, service and support for over 17,000 merchants world-wide. MiCamp offers a variety of solutions. There is traditional credit card processing – with extremely competitive rates, of course, that can beat any other pricing. Card processing is available for both in-person and virtual transactions. During the pandemic, MiCamp launched one of its newest offerings, the revolutionary WAVit program. The platform that allows merchants to reduce their credit card processing fees to zero, providing them with significant cost savings. The program that helped save countless businesses over the past year. It provides customers with a cash discount, as well. MiCamp also offers mergers and acquisitions services. Harper Babin Many recognize Harper Babin as the spokesperson of MiCamp Cares. The Director of ISV, she heads up the custom software division, but is also passionate about the new MiCamp Cares program, which is the charity arm of MiCamp Solutions. MiCamp Cares’ giving program works with charities across Arizona, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, TGEN, The Arizona Sports & Entertainment Commission, Arizona Helping Hands, DBACKS Gives Back, and Cardinals Charities – to name just a few (charities looking to be considered as beneficiaries can submit online). “We often give to youth, sports, and mental health organizations,” Babin explains. “Giving back is so important to MiCamp, and an integral part of who we are.” The philosophy of the program is simple: Give back to the community in which you work and live.

Juvederm Voluma

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is a facial filler made up of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that helps to bind water to cells. Its extensive cross-linking helps to provide an excellent lifting capacity, making it an excellent choice for restoring volume in the cheeks and midface.

WHAT IS JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC? As you age, the cheeks may flatten and the skin may begin to sag. This is caused by natural loss of volume in the cheek area, or what the experts call age-related midface volume loss. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is designed to add volume beneath the skin's surface, which provides lift and contour to the cheek area.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC provides natural-looking and long-lasting results that last up to 2 years with optimal treatment.

BOARD OF VISITORS PRESENTS FLOWER GIRLS The oldest charity in our state and one of the most important, The Board of Visitors, was finally able to have a ball! And what a night it was. Sadly, last year for obvious reasons, the charity was not able to present the 2020 flower girls. Luckily, this year, they were able to showcase both lovely groups of young ladies. Pam Kolbe chaired the bash which was closely regulated

with attendance cut to small groups of family members. Nevertheless, the Camelback Inn did a superb job making sure every detail for the grand affair was taken care of. This year the prestigious institution was able to grant 14 charities in need. It was a beautiful and long-awaited evening.

CONCIERGE SERVICES LIKE NO OTHER … Because it’s not just about selling your house.

We all experience changes in life. Sometimes it’s with much joy and anticipation when you are up-sizing or down-sizing your estate. Sometimes the changes are unexpected and challenging. The changes may cause a tidal wave of happiness, or a riptide of unexpected adjustments, including emotional, legal or financial complexities. In 2009, I experienced a life-altering change. Selling my luxury estate was just one challenge. I searched for guidance through every phase, and was lucky to find the professionals I needed. I then created a Concierge business designed to help others going through similar events. My process helps to streamline efforts, reduce time, stress and expense.
