The Darron Childs Practice & Friends Continue Raising Thousands for the Community (DCP) & Friends have undertaken a vast range of fundraising activities including SAS-style boot camp training on MOD property, to skydives, to charity garden parties & several ‘Big Walks’. DCP & Friends with some of the Big Walk team
An intrepid team from a local investment & financial planning practice has notched up raising over £100,000 for the community and local and national charities over the last two decades, via their fundraising activities which concentrates on charitable grants through The St James’s Place Charitable Foundation.
This year the Big Walk Challenge in the Peak District was blighted by wheelchairs, crutches and prescription drugs as part of the overall DCP story. Despite this DCP & Friends undertook a mammoth 30 mile walk on the weekend of the 12th of May. and this week it has been confirmed that DCP will also be the UK lead sponsor for a new film that is due for release later this year. It’s an amazing story that starts in Gainsborough and eventually goes global. It’s the birth, growth and domination of the beautiful game, featuring a local lad who became a celebrity. Fred Spiksley, 1870-1948, became an international footballer and globetrotting coach. He was the winner of every major English football honour. Scoring 131 goals in 124 games for Gainsborough Trinity, his hometown club.

This year Kettlethorpe and District WI will
celebrate its 45th birthday in October. We have a total of 35 members including four original members; Anne Close, Chris East, Sylvia Johnson and Audrey Payne (all well known local ladies). Our members enjoy attending our regular meetings and taking part in the activities. At each monthly meeting after the business is completed we have a guest speaker followed by refreshments and social get together. As well as the meetings we have an organised walk, a craft session and a visit to a theatre or place of interest each month. We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month in Kettlethorpe village hall. The meetings begin at 7.30pm. Please come along as our guest to see if you would enjoy becoming part of our friendly group. For ladies who have recently moved to live in this area it is an ideal opportunity to meet and make friends and become involved in local activities. We were heading for Lea Gardens near Matlock to see their magnificent collection of azaleas and rhododendrons, they were in full bloom and presented themselves in such radiant beauty that only nature can produce. It was pouring with rain when we set off but we were full of hope; when we got there we poured off the bus and straight into the tea rooms for cake and drinks, suddenly the sun appeared to loud cheering, well, murmurs of appreciation. We traversed the zigzag paths until lunchtime, excellent food, some had more cake as well! We then bused to Scotland Garden Centre
