‘Well,’ said the visitor, ‘so you’re all in it together!’ And someone else said, ‘It’s a real community event.’ And it is. We all rely on each other to make sure it happens, and that people get to know about it and come along, it works, and it’s such good fun, everyone enjoys it, especially over 300 people who walked by the river, who marvelled at the swathes of snowdrops and bright yellow aconites, who, along with all those people who contributed their time and effort to the day have helped raise over £1070 to help pay the bills for St. Mary’s Church, and something else happened, we achieved this together, all of us, and that’s what really counts. Hugh was sent back to Lincoln shortly after having taken part in the battle of Najera and distinguishing himself again as a good warrior and battle tactician. No more is heard of either Hugh or Katherine until 1369 by which time they had a son, named Thomas after his grandfather. Hugh and Katherine’s relationship had mellowed, but Katherine appears to have been quite pleased to go to Bolingbroke to wait on the Duchess Blanche. Sadly, by the time she arrived, Blanche was dying of plague. Katharine nursed her and was able to locate a priest to give her the last rights. It would then appear that Hugh sanctioned Katherine’s journey to London in Blanche’s funeral train.

DialaRide is happy to announce it has published a schedule of ‘Days Out Trips’ throughout 2015 for its registered clients.
Using our wheelchair-accessible minibuses, driven by one of our team of fully trained volunteer drivers, we provide our vulnerable clients with an opportunity to visit places in the country that they may otherwise be unable to go to. Clients can also purchase tickets for family members, carers and friends to accompany them and make the trip perfect for their day out. Even our clients who don’t use a wheelchair can book to come on the trips as our minibuses are flexible to add or remove seats as required for ambulant passengers. Our trips set out on Saturdays throughout the year and will pick you up and drop you straight outside your home. Our trips include: 20 June 2015

ST HELEN’S CHURCH, THORNEY From June 1st 2015 the East Trent Group of churches will be without a rector. The parishes will put together a statement telling prospective ministers about our villages, our hopes and vision for the future of our churches and we will wait and pray for the right person to come along! Somewhere out there is a solution. Pray with us and watch this space. SUNDAY 7TH JUNE 5pm Holy Communion SUNDAY 14TH JUNE 10.30am Morning Worship SUNDAY 21ST JUNE 10.30 Morning Worship, Lay led SUNDAY 5TH JULY 9am Holy Communion SUNDAY 19th July 10.30am Morning Worship Lay Led Church is open every Thursday from 2.30-4pm for quiet prayer and contemplation. There are candles to light and cards to write concerns or thanks on. Your comments may then be used in prayer during future services. Thank you. A coffee morning is held to coincide with the library van visit every four weeks. Next dates are: Wednesday 10th June, 8th July, 5th August, and 2nd September. Come along for a hot drink and some homemade biscuits any time between 10.30 and 12 noon. Children visiting in August may choose a book to be read to them. We collect on a regular basis for the Trussell Trust, who work with the homeless and families in trauma in the Newark area. Tinned or packet foods and household items can be brought along when church is open. Thanks for all of your generous donations in the past. We will have one more collection during June and July, as we collect for FRAMEWORK at our harvest celebration. We look forward to seeing you. Anne Massey, Churchwarden
