Cultural Center Casa de las Monjas, Espartinas (Seville), Spain.

Thanks to the cooperation with the Municipality of the town of Espartinas, in the province of Seville, Spain, a collective exhibition of all the works was organized in March 2024 in the framework of the events related to International Women Day.

The exhibition was a wonderful occasion to organize an encounter between the two groups of citizens participating in the project Hands-on: ‘Women Association entre Mantones y Sedas ‘ and ‘Tejedoras del Muelle de la Sal’. This was an example of cooperation between the city and the rural area. A very successful and interesting approach among people from different generations, interests and backgrounds.

During the opening of the exhibition, it was also possible to visit the workshop where the Women Association ‘Entre Mantones y Sedas’ meet regularly from Monday to Thursday every week. On the picture Nouhaila shows her work to Esperanza Ruiz Labrador from Tejedoras del Muelle de la Sal.

59

This initiative allowed Nouhaila to learn a new embroidery technique, now on silk with silken threads. This picture shows the work she had done during her stay. Teachers were very surprised on how fast she learned and about the precision in her embroidery.

Nouhaila was also able to learn how to create the fringes of the shawl, which is a fundamental part of it and is considered in itself a craftmanship.

60

This co-creation event with the exhibition in the village of Espartinas, was able to join two groups of citizens in love with craftsmanship, one from the city and one from the province. On the picture members from Tejedoras del Muelle de la Sal talking to a member of the women association Entre Mantones y Sedas.

61

This co-creation may have different uses and are suitable for men and women alike.

62
63

It may be also used as a traditional household very frequent in hot countries in the Mediterranean.

64

Each piece can just be framed and decorate any space.
