THE
TREND REPORT
A Note from the Editor…
SUMMER is here and that means a new Trend Report issue! I couldn’t do it without my fabulous team and all the collaborators that make this possible. It is your talents and passion that keep me going in times of complete exhaustion. Thank you for sharing my love, passion and downright obsession for fashion & trends.
I launched Trending with Tressie 5 years ago as a way to share my knowledge, passion and obsession for new trends in the fashion and beauty industry. I had a vision of adding an extension of TwT, The Trend Report, as a way to further share my passion for editorial fashion, showcasing exclusive editorials we created to inspire. To showcase designer’s artful creations, shine a spotlight on my favorite collections of the season, and inspire with the makeup and hair trends for this season. I longed to develop a platform for artist, creators, fashion and beauty industry experts to collaborate and bring focus to their talents and connect passionate people together to create magic. But more than anything, I wanted to Inspire. I wanted to create. I wanted to ignite the passion I feel for fashion in everyone who opens The Trend Report. XO

FA S H I O N L E S S O N But what exactly is
“Ready-towear”?
R
eady-to-wear or prêt-àporter often abbreviated RTW; "off-therack" or "off-the-peg" in casual use) is the term for factory-made clothing, sold in finished condition, in standardized sizes, as distinct from made to measure or bespoke clothing tailored to a particular person's frame. Off-the-peg is sometimes used for items which are not clothing, such as handbags. Ready-to-wear has rather different connotations in the spheres of fashion and classic clothing. In the fashion industry, designers produce ready-to-wear clothing intended to be worn without significant alteration, because clothing made to standard sizes fits most people. They use standard patterns, factory equipment, and faster construction techniques to keep costs low, compared to a cus-
tom-sewn version of the same item. Some fashion houses and fashion designers produce mass-produced and industrially manufactured ready-to-wear lines, while others offer garments that, while not unique, are produced in limited numbers. The Bread & Butter in Berlin is considered to be the world's most important trade fair for ready-to-wear fashion Fashion houses that produce a women's haute couture line, such as Chanel, Dior, Lacroix and Saint Laurent also produce a ready-to-wear line, which returns a greater profit due to the higher volume of garments made and the greater availability of the clothing. The construction of ready-to-wear clothing is also held to a different standard than that of haute couture due to its industrial nature. High-end ready-to-wear lines
are sometimes based upon a famous gown or other pattern that is then duplicated and advertised to raise the visibility of the designer. In high-end fashion, readyto-wear collections are usually presented by fashion houses each season during a period known as Fashion Week. This takes place on a city-bycity basis, and the most prominent of these include London, New York, Milan, and Paris, and are held twice a year—the Fall/Winter (FW) shows take place in February, and the Spring/Summer (SS) collections are shown in September. Smaller lines including the Cruise and Pre-Fall collections, which add to the retail value of a brand, are presented separately at the fashion designer's discretion. Ready-to-wear fashion weeks occur separately and earlier than those of haute couture.

D E S I G N E R / C O L L E C T I O N SPOTLIGHT
Q&A With Dr. Zwack
How would you describe your style?
Stevie Nicks meets Wonder Woman meets Native American princess; my style has always been vintage, rock inspired, big 70's. When I found myself creating couture silk gowns I surprised myself, but true to my soul expression and roots, my designs will always carry a vintage quality infused with rock music and subtle 70's flare. How did you become a designer and why?
I feel that I have always been a designer, yet it is only within the last few
years that I learned how to make patterns and sew. Since I can remember,
I have had a 6th sense for fashion and design, and have exuded that quality in the world. In all ways my life has been infused with this creative energy,
and now that I have the skill set and a direct outlet, I have the ability to fully be that which I have always been.
!55
D E S I G N E R / C O L L E C T I O N SPOTLIGHT
Q&A With Dr. Zwack…..Continued What do you like most about being a designer?
For me designing presents me with the opportunity to become a storyteller while operating in the field of beauty and grace. Each of my designs are
purposed to convey a story and to inspire through the use of color, subtle suggestion, and undertone.
What do you like most about working in the fashion industry?
I find fulfillment in being an illustrator, and artisan, and embodying the
creative process from the conception of a design to the finished fruits of labor; it is a commitment and a lifestyle choice.
Where/how do you draw your inspiration from and what is one thing that makes you different?
I believe that many designers and artists look to outside sources in the physical world for ideas, themes, and inspiration. For me the opposite is true. I navigate life through honoring heart based intuition, and my design inspiration is accessed through still, introspective states, dreamtime, and rock music driven creative reveries. My collection was laid out in detailed sketches, a dress in each color of the rainbow, when I was driving along, music blasting, soaking in the vibrancy of the busy city street, and it struck me that my collection WAS Lake St.

COLLECTION REVIEW

Miharayasuhiro Menswear S/S 2016
Miharayasuhiro S/S 2016
"I don't want to make it too obvious," Yasuhiro said during a presentation in his Paris showroom, "so
the abnormality is subtle." Or maybe not. Yasuhiro's Spring collection was full of disorienting details: the trompe l'oeil pockets hand-painted on a biker jacket, the shirttails sewn over shorts, the coat that tied with two additional sleeves. His skill as a designer is that he has been able to turn such tricks into a convincing design signature. That's because his clothes never look untouchable. They've been to hell and back, worn, shredded, patched, made so that the old looks new again. "Fashion is so bright
now, patterns are so strong, I want my clothes to be subtle," he said. Yasuhiro continues to give us a grungy, slouchy sex appeal.

Top 5 SWIMWEAR TRENDS by
Sophia Stewert
The 1990's One Piece
To attain this look just think of the iconic red swimsuit from bay-

style look for patterns,
typefaces and plunging necklines.

Cold Shoulder
SUMMER 2016
The cold shoulder is domi-
nating ever aspect of fashion this season. Pick your de-
sired swim suit style and how much shoulder you wanna show!
Cut Out The time has come to stop worrying about funky tan lines. If your more on the conservative side go for a monokini one piece to achieve this trend. For a two piece options try a high waist bikini bottoms with strappy sides or a lattice cut top.

It doesn't surprise me it has made its way to swim wear. The key details of sporty
swimwear are mesh,
high necklines, zippers and color blocking.

summer favorite. It has now
evolved into embroidery and lace. In any style swim suit you desire.

SUMMER
NIGHTS MAKEUP Got a hot date this summer and want to really blow them away with an irresistible look? From BOLD lips to glossy lids, some of the top summer trends for 2016 can easily translate to a night out on the town. Our beauty expert Hillary Kline weighs in on her top tips for an easy summer date night look.
Be a Bronzed
Beauty Look out Midas, you’ll want to look like a bronzed beauty on your date. With a fluffy powder brush, lightly dust bronzer on your temples, below the cheekbones and under the jawline. You can also take a smaller brush and place bronzer down the sides of your nose for a more chiseled and contoured effect.
Glossy lids
One of the things that is hot this summer is to opt out of eyeshadow and go for a gloss/dewy affect. You can tap into this effect with as little as one product such as Aquaphor, Maybelline’s Baby Lips or Vaseline
Go BOLD Wear that red lipstick – maybe hot pink or magenta – the options are really endless. Have a little fun with color. This summer is all about funky and bold colors. I like to pair bold lips with neutral eyes so the lip color makes a daring statement.
Color Lashes
Play up your eyes on date night, or even a night out with the
girl’s (because girls just want to have fun too, right?) Instead of
opting for a black mascara, try a colorful shade, like purple or blue. Either way, color eyelashes are going to make you look twenty times cooler. .

Working Girl Chic Stepping away from the out there hair, this look is really clean, defined and almost masculine with a deep side part. Medium- To Long-length Man Hair Given menswear’s current infatuation with two of history’s shaggiest-haired decades – that’s the 1970s and the 1990s, it’s not shocking that hair trends for men this spring are getting longer. It’s not a look for everyone. And we’re not just talking taste: you’ll need hair that falls slightly finer for a good crack at this look. Grow it out over time, braving those awkward in-between stages.

Polished Braided Ponytail A simple, single braid down the back is a nod to the confident, sexy woman. Prep damp hair with thickening spray and rough dry with hands. Tie it into a ponytail before braiding for a clean look.

Givenchy 2016 Couture
R U N WA Y R E V I E W According to one of the arcane regulations of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the French governing body, in order to qualify as haute couture, a collection must contain 50 handmade outfits, for both day and night. Fifty! The 12 womenswear silhouettes Riccardo Tisci slipped into the Givenchy menswear runway show were enough to transmit his “couture” statement. The way he nailed the feeling for cloaks, matching them to the fabric of long dresses— not so much as a cover-up or coat substitute, but as a complete look, was what stood out the most in this collection.

FA S H I O N L E S S O N But what exactly is Haute Couture? A History lesson… {thanks Wikipedia!!}
H
aute couture can be referenced back as early as the 1700s. Rose Bertin, the French fashion designer to Queen Marie Antoinette, can be credited for bringing fashion and haute couture to French culture. French leadership in European fashion continued into the 18th century when influence was sourced from art, architecture, music, and fashions of the French court at Versailles were imitated across Europe. Visitors to Paris brought back clothing that was then copied by local dressmakers. Stylish women also ordered fashion dolls dressed in the latest Parisian fashion to serve as models. As railroads and steamships made European travel easier, it was increasingly common for wealthy women to travel to Paris to shop for clothing and accessories. French fitters and dressmakers were commonly thought to be the best in Europe, and real Parisian garments were considered better than local imitations. The couturier Charles Frederick Worth (October 13, 1826–March 10, 1895), is widely considered the father of haute couture as it is known today. Although born in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England, Worth made his mark in the French fashion industry. Revolutionizing how dressmaking had been previously perceived, Worth made it so the dressmaker became the artist of garnishment: a fashion designer. While he created one-of-a-kind designs to please some of his titled or wealthy customers, he is best known for preparing a portfolio of designs that were shown on live models at the House of Worth. Clients selected one model, specified colors and fabrics, and had a duplicate garment tailor-made in Worth's workshop. Worth combined individual tailoring with a standardization more characteristic of the ready-to-wear clothing industry, which was also developing during this period. Following Worth's footsteps were , Patou, Poiret, Vionnet, Fortuny, Lanvin, Chanel, Mainbocher, Schiaparelli, Balenciaga, and Dior. Some of these fashion houses still exist today, under the leadership of modern designers.
In the 1960s, a group of young designers who had trained under men like Dior and Balenciaga left these established couture houses and opened their own establishments. Ted Lapidus, and Emanuel Ungaro. Japanese native and Parisbased Hanae Mori was also successful in establishing her own line.
The most successful of these young designers were Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, André Lacroix is one of the fashion houses to have been started in the late 20th century. Other new houses have included Jean-Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler. Due to the high expenses of producing haute couture collections, Lacroix and Mugler have since ceased their haute couture activities. Modernized haute couture shows are not designed and made to be sold, rather they are exactly what they are displayed for - for show. Instead of being constructed for the purpose of selling and making money, they are made to further the publicity, as well as perception and understanding of brand image. For all these fashion houses, custom clothing is no longer the main source of income, often costing much more than it earns through direct sales; it only adds the aura of fashion to their ventures in ready-to-wear clothing and related luxury products such as shoes and perfumes, and licensing ventures that earn greater returns for the company. Excessive commercialization and profitmaking can be damaging, however. Cardin, for example, licensed with abandon in the 1980s and his name lost most of its fashionable cachet when anyone could buy Cardin luggage at a discount store. It is their ready-to-wear collections that are available to a wider audience, adding a splash of glamour and the feel of haute couture to more wardrobes
