THE

TREND REPORT

A Note from the Editor… As always, this latest issue was a labor of love, one that I enjoyed very much. I couldn’t do it without my fabulous team, all the collaborators and sponsors that made this issue possible. Thank you for sharing my love, passion and downright obsession for fashion & trends.

I launched Trending with Tressie over 4 years ago as a way to share my knowledge, passion and obsession for new trends in the fashion and beauty industry. I had a vision of adding an extension of TwT, The Trend Report, as a way to further share my passion for editorial photoshoots; showcasing exclusive editorials we created to inspire. To showcase designer’s artful creations, shine a spotlight on my favorite collections of the season, and inspire with the makeup and hair trends for this season. I longed to develop a platform for artist, creators, fashion and beauty industry experts to collaborate and bring focus to their talents and connect passionate people together to create magic. But more than anything, I wanted to Inspire. I wanted to create. I wanted to ignite the passion I feel for fashion in everyone who opens The Trend Report.

But what exactly is

“Ready-to-wear”?

R

eady-to-wear or prêt-à-porter often abbreviated RTW; "off-therack" or "off-thepeg" in casual use) is the term for factory-made clothing, sold in finished condition, in standardized sizes, as distinct from made to measure or bespoke clothing tailored to a particular person's frame. Off-the-peg is sometimes used for items which are not clothing, such as handbags. Ready-to-wear has rather different connotations in the spheres of fashion and classic clothing. In the fashion industry, designers produce ready-to-wear clothing intended to be worn without significant alteration, because clothing made to standard sizes fits most people. They use standard patterns, factory equipment, and faster construction techniques to keep costs low, compared to a custom-sewn version of the same item. Some fashion houses

and fashion designers produce mass-produced and industrially manufactured ready-to-wear lines, while others offer garments that, while not unique, are produced in limited numbers. The Bread & Butter in Berlin is considered to be the world's most important trade fair for ready-to-wear fashion Fashion houses that produce a women's haute couture line, such as Chanel, Dior, Lacroix and Saint Laurent also produce a ready-to-wear line, which returns a greater profit due to the higher volume of garments made and the greater availability of the clothing. The construction of ready-to-wear clothing is also held to a different standard than that of haute couture due to its industrial nature. High-end ready-to-wear lines are sometimes based upon a famous gown or other pattern that is then duplicated and advertised

to raise the visibility of the designer. In high-end fashion, ready-towear collections are usually presented by fashion houses each season during a period known as Fashion Week. This takes place on a city-by-city basis, and the most prominent of these include London, New York, Milan, and Paris, and are held twice a year—the Fall/ Winter (FW) shows take place in February, and the Spring/ Summer (SS) collections are shown in September. Smaller lines including the Cruise and Pre-Fall collections, which add to the retail value of a brand, are presented separately at the fashion designer's discretion. Ready-to-wear fashion weeks occur separately and earlier than those of haute couture.

Messy knot You're done at the gym and now off duty downtown. Don't have a brush? Start with dirty hair and spray in a little more texture with a salt spray. After making a tight, messy knot, leave the ends sticking roughly out at the bottom and finish with a wet finishing spray.

Simple Clean Braids In a bind? This seasons braids are a major shift from the loose, bohemian ones that pair with airy white dresses. It may be perhaps because this seasons collections include more black leather and buttoned up collars than ever before. These braids are more thin, structured and functional.

37

vintage accessories Add some "charm" to your partied till the early a.m. hair by clipping in some '40's inspired pins or wrapping some gold wire around the base of ponytails.

!78

Tied Down Hair Here's a new version to replace tucking the hair into coats and turtlenecks. Now it's about taking an embellished choker, a strip of tulle, or even a zip tie and wrap it around your neck without bothering to move any hair out of the way. If that feels constraining, modify it by just wrapping that ribbon around a low pony tail

!79

Natural woman "Celebration of the individual." Skip the products and heat styling and rock what you got. Stop fighting your natural texture. Let hair naturally dry with no product in it and let Mother Nature handle the rest

Banging The heavy, round bang that hits just below the eyebrows is the sweet spot for fringe that is a little bit sexy, a little bit mysterious and not school girl or too masculine. Don't want to make the commitment of bangs? You can easily fake them with clip on bangs

!81

Man Braid Yes: the spiritual brother to the man bun. Yes: not just a braid but a

MAN

braid, a strong and manly braid, a braid that drinks lager and has a favorite car, a braid that has a favorite film and that film is Fight Club. Yes: Man braiding. It’s a “thing” and it’s amazing.

Classic Styling For a simple, timeless take on the slicked back trend opt for a classic styling. For this look, use a wet look gel or pomade for decent hold with a glossy touch. Comb hair back in a repetitive and thorough manner. Be mindful of products that are too rigid which will make the hair look flat.

Winter SHOWS

The hottest fashion trends straight off the

RUNWAY.

Lovely Leather How one can ignore the leather trend, I do not know. It is literally everywhere, in nearly every collection, on nearly every model sometimes. It appears from head to toe, in the shape of purses and shoes, but mostly on skirts and jackets. Leather leggings and leather ankle crop pants made it onto the runway as well. Lovely colors of leather adds a posh spin on the edgy look. So Chic. So Fabulous!

Graphic B/W Stripes, checkers, zebra print and diamond shapes. They all created optical illusions on the runway.

From left to right: Valentino, Saint Laurent and Emilio Pucci

Vintage Victorian The Edwardian era designs were in many of this seasons collections. With their lacy accents, high collars and cinched waists. The dominant styles of the Victorian era came to be very much adored for the coming seasons, from Monique Lhuillier’s lacy numbers with the midi hems, midnight floral designs and high necks, to the Reem Acra flouncy miniskirts and cinched waist doublets.Anna Sui Fall 2015

Gothic Glam The edgy but posh gothic glam trend is so mysteriously alluring. Marc Jacobs knows how to wow with the house’s latest creations, black from head to toe with a play on materials and textures, appeared soft and hard at the same time. Adding in pops of rich colors. Rag & Bone was another collection embracing the dark side this season.

Tribal Inspired Fur The tribal trend from this summer carried into winter as designers showcased looks inspired by arctic cultures with eskimo style fur hoods.

From left to right: Dsquared, Lavin and Sacai

Emilio Pucci Spring 2015

Duster Coats The designers went to great lengths with pieces that almost “dusted the runway. Duster coats, cardigans and vests can be paired with anything from dresses to jeans. You can wear lightweight ones for warmer months then invest in a wool coat when temperatures drop.

Fur Stoles

Michael Kors

Emilio Pucci Spring 2015

Fur stoles may not have been an expected trend but they definitely did appear on the runway shows all around. The winter seasons are frosty and we need as much help in the warmth department as possible. The stoles were draped to one side on nearly all the models sporting them. The Michael Kors fur stoles looked so very chic with the matching knit sweater and skirt sets.

Shearling Soft gentle lines and colors mixed with cozy shearling jackets make for easy to wear winter looks that anyone can rock.

Elie Saab Spring/Summer 2015

Chloe

Ralph Lauren

Lanvin

Puffy This winter season, puffy sleeves make a huge comeback and the 1980s were brought back. Afraid of adding bulk? Stronger looking shoulders create a smaller waist illusion. Balenciaga and Alexander Wang were two of the many who took on the challenge and created cocoon coats and dresses. Miu Miu’s vintage collection was a favorite of mine, with multiple layers, featuring this particular trend.

Asymmetrical Hemlines I find great beauty in the perfect asymmetry of so many of the pieces featured at the different fashion shows for the fall and winter. Even in the asymmetry there is symmetry, as any form of geometric line, whether it be vertical, horizontal or diagonal, is still a line. Some of the best asymmetrical looks were created by Reem Acra, Victoria Beckham, Monique Lhuillier

Neo-Seventies As a stand out trend this season, the influence of 70’s rebels and rockers is apparent in this season’s collections! Fun pops of neon colors and throwback silhouettes are definitely shaking up menswear this winter!

Camel Color The hot color trend this winter for the fellas is the rich, warm and sophisticated color Camel. Rock it in a monochromatic look like bellow or layering it over pretty much any color palette and style in your outerwear.

JCrew

Etro

Square There were so many patterns across the catwalks this season, but after Paris Fashion week the frontrunner for the season was clearly square patterns and patches.

From left to right: Kolor, Miharayasuhiro, Salvatore Ferragamo, Agi &Sam, Giorgio Armani and Paul Smith

Fursure man! The Fur for men trend had a strong presence on the runways, in both luxe and casual styles. Stepping up this season to another level, collections were more over the top show stopping styles.

Dunhill

Dsquared

The one-piece suit Otherwise referred to as a jump suit or siren suits, but this season’s trend isn’t inspired by just the military-issued ensembles. These suits had a high-end remix. Hermes styled their looks with dress shirts and ties or tailored jackets. From left to right: Hermes, Kenzo, Lou Dalton, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Xander Zhou and Louis Vuitton.

ZUHAIR MURAD FW 2015/16

Couture Show

R U N WA Y R E V I E W ZUHAIR MURAD A starry-eyed Zuhair Murad turned to the sky for inspiration for his autumn/winter couture show. “I have a big telescope in my house and I see lots of things,” said Murad. “I love the mystery.” Silhouettes ranged from jumpsuits with cape sleeves to short tutu dresses to long gowns with flaring skirts, many covered with the designer’s trademark sparkly embroideries made from crystals, sequins and beads. Luscious dyed fur capes in varying lengths topped off many looks as David Bowie circa Ziggy Stardust blared through the speakers and models strutted the catwalk against a light installation mimicking the sky. The fantasy bride wore a pannier dress with a ballooning train covered with “galactic dust” embellishments that took 20 people 350 hours to create.

But what exactly is Haute Couture? A History lesson… {thanks Wikipedia!!}

H

aute couture can be referenced back as early as the 1700s. Rose Bertin, the French fashion designer to Queen Marie Antoinette, can be credited for bringing fashion and haute couture to French culture. French leadership in European fashion continued into the 18th century when influence was sourced from art, architecture, music, and fashions of the French court at Versailles were imitated across Europe. Visitors to Paris brought back clothing that was then copied by local dressmakers. Stylish women also ordered fashion dolls dressed in the latest Parisian fashion to serve as models.

parelli, Balenciaga, and Dior. Some of these fashion houses still exist today, under the leadership of modern designers.

As railroads and steamships made European travel easier, it was increasingly common for wealthy women to travel to Paris to shop for clothing and accessories. French fitters and dressmakers were commonly thought to be the best in Europe, and real Parisian garments were considered better than local imitations.

Dior and Balenciaga left these established couture houses and opened their own establishments. Ted Lapidus, and Emanuel Ungaro. Japanese native and Paris-based Hanae Mori was also successful in establishing her own line.

The couturier Charles Frederick Worth (October 13, 1826–March 10, 1895), is widely considered the father of haute couture as it is known today. Although born in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England, Worth made his mark in the French fashion industry. Revolutionizing how dressmaking had been previously perceived, Worth made it so the dressmaker became the artist of garnishment: a fashion designer. While he created one-of-akind designs to please some of his titled or wealthy customers, he is best known for preparing a portfolio of designs that were shown on live models at the House of Worth. Clients selected one model, specified colors and fabrics, and had a duplicate garment tailor-made in Worth's workshop. Worth combined individual tailoring with a standardization more characteristic of the ready-to-wear clothing industry, which was also developing during this period. Following Worth's footsteps were , Patou, Poiret, Vionnet, Fortuny, Lanvin, Chanel, Mainbocher, Schia

Lacroix is one of the fashion houses to have been started in the late 20th century. Other new houses have included Jean-Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler. Due to the high expenses of producing haute couture collections, Lacroix and Mugler have since ceased their haute couture activities. Modernized haute couture shows are not designed and made to be sold, rather they are exactly what they are displayed for - for show. Instead of being constructed for the purpose of selling and making money, they are made to further the publicity, as well as perception and understanding of brand image. For all these fashion houses, custom clothing is no longer the main source of income, often costing much more than it earns through direct sales; it only adds the aura of fashion to their ventures in ready-to-wear clothing and related luxury products such as shoes and perfumes, and licensing ventures that earn greater returns for the company. Excessive commercialization and profit-making can be damaging, however. Cardin, for example, licensed with abandon in the 1980s and his name lost most of its fashionable cachet when anyone could buy Cardin luggage at a discount store. It is their ready-to-wear collections that are available to a wider

collection is undeniably entertaining. His brand of humor is Pop-ier, wackier, more sugary than Franco’s, Scott is a designer who totally nails the contemporary look-at-me style. Everything he shows can be Snapchatted or Instagrammed pretty much without hesitation. The collection he unveiled in a

Mayfair church setting, was as vivid as ever thanks to collaborative input from British artists Gilbert & George. “I wanted to do supersaturated clothes, so I had tea with them,” said Scott. “And as I was telling them my ideas for the collection, they said, ‘Why don't you take from our archive?’ So from the crosses to the heads to the slogans [which appeared fast and furious on virtually everything] there were so many wonderful things I was able to incorporate.” Fluorescentpainted earlobes and painted streaks in the hair, took the overall looks to another level! Denim had a spray-paint treatment, with folds and seams added. Awesome Dr. Martens–style boots received the same graffiti. Love it or hate it you must see the art and creativity in this bold pop collection.

The I AM Kindness Gallery Show is an art show in which money is of no value. All of the artworks being shown will be available only by performing acts of kindness – ranging from playing with animals at a shelter to volunteering at a nursing home to assisting a gallery during open hours. Each work of art will have a designated kindness chosen by the artist.
