OUTLOOK
AN INVITATION TO ENTER THE GOSPEL Jesus’ teaching to his apostles and others gathered nearby are particularly perplexing to the mind -set of our day. This is the passage read and preached on All Saints’ Sunday, as we commemorated the faithful Christians who have died and considered how we are called to be saints. Christ’s message of compassion, selflessness and values held in God’s heavenly country stand in a bold contrast to a steady broadcast of goals, fears and expectations that seem to foster a considerable amount of attention on self above all others. Jesus’ message to the twelve apostles and all those who are sent out into the world, including us, is one that takes nurturing through study, prayer, and—most importantly— the grace God gives us to see Jesus in our neighbor. I invite you to join me in reading this passage each day in November. Ask God a simple question before you start to read each time. What would you have me learn? Or perhaps make a simple request. Please God, help me to hear, see and learn. After you finish reading take a few moments in silence to reflect and pray about what part of the passage resonated with you. At the end of the day or the start of the new one, take a look back at the day and see if anything reminded you of the passage. In this month that begins with saints and comes to an end with giving thanks, I hope that you enter this gospel lesson more deeply than we can on a Sunday morning, and look forward to hearing about what you learn and experience from Jesus’ teaching. Grace and peace,
NOVEMBER 2013
Then he looked up at his disciples and said, “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets. But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets. But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:20-31

HEALING PRAYER SERVICE
From the earliest beginnings of the church Christians have gathered to pray, anoint, and lay hands on those seeking healing. This tradition continues at Trinity with the Service for Healing on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. We recognize that healing comes in many forms— physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. You may tell those who will pray for you about your need or you may keep it between you and God. We do not know when we make a request for healing just how God will answer. Some answers are direct, others more subtle, and yet all are designed by God to draw us more closely in the life God has planned for us. Please join us on Wed., Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
SATURDAY SUPPER UPDATE Our next Saturday Supper will be Nov. 16, 7 p.m., at the home of Mary Sheldon, 8009 Sunscape Lane, Fort Worth, 76123 Please bring a dish to share. Coffee and tea will be provided. This is a great way to get to know your Trinity family in a casual atmosphere!
