NDUDUZO MTOLO MANAGING DIRECTOR OF LIGHTHOUSE DRIVING SCHOOL
CRECHE, WEEKEND CARE AND NIGHT CARE
Ed’s note
I
started jogging on the 8th January 2014 when I felt a bit
uncomfortable with myself and had gained a lot of wait. I have always been tiny but with age and after having babies it’s hard to loose that baby fat. I was also suffering from constant headaches, heartburn and bloating. My best friend Kwazi came to visit me on the 7th and made fun that I had gained so much weight in just three weeks since he had last seen me. It made me feel bad, that very same night I read Bona Magazine they profiled Terry Phetho’s she spoke about her career and loosing weight that inspired me so much. I made a decision that night that the following morning I was going jogging. I have been jogging ever since and have been so disciplined with the assistance of my friend Nomonde and Mogale. We are now gym members and proud to say that I do not suffer from headaches, heartburn and bloating anymore. I have lost weight and I am loving the way I look and feel , feel as if I can conquer the world. The moral of my story is when you look and feel good you become even more confident. On page 6 to 7 we defined cancer and you could find out the causes and symptoms of cancer. This month we profile Mr. Nduduzo Mtolo Managing Director of Lighthouse Driving School. He tells us about his journey in the Driving School business and if there is anything else that he is currently working on. Enjoy!

DEFINING CANCER Defining Cancer
What causes cancer?
Cancer is a term used for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues. Cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. Cancer is not just one disease but many diseases. There are more than 100 different types of cancer. Most cancers are named for the organ or type of cell in which they start - for example, cancer that begins in the colon is called colon cancer; cancer that begins in basal cells of the skin is called basal cell carcinoma. There are over 100 different types of cancer, and each is classified by the type of cell that is initially affected. Cancer harms the body when damaged cells divide uncontrollably to form lumps or masses of tissue called tumors (except in the case of leukemia where cancer prohibits normal blood function by abnormal cell division in the blood stream). Tumors can grow and interfere with the digestive, nervous, and circulatory systems, and they can release hormones that alter body function. Tumors that stay in one spot and demonstrate limited growth are generally considered to be benign.
Cancer is ultimately the result of cells that uncontrollably grow and do not die. Normal cells in the body follow an orderly path of growth, division, and death. Programed cell death is called apoptosis, and when this process breaks down, cancer begins to form. Unlike regular cells, cancer cells do not experience programmatic death and instead continue to grow and divide. This leads to a mass of abnormal cells that grows out of control.
Origins of Cancer All cancers begin in cells, the body's basic unit of life. To understand cancer, it's helpful to know what happens when normal cells become cancer cells. The body is made up of many types of cells. These cells grow and divide in a controlled way to produce more cells as they are needed to keep the body healthy. When cells become old or damaged, they die and are replaced with new cells. However, sometimes this orderly process goes wrong. The genetic material (DNA) of a cell can become damaged or changed, producing mutations that affect normal cell growth and division. When this happens, cells do not die when they should and new cells form when the body does not need them. The extra cells may form a mass of tissue called a tumor.
What are the symptoms of cancer? Cancer symptoms are quite varied and depend on where the cancer is located, where it has spread, and how big the tumor is. Some cancers can be felt or seen through the skin - a lump on the breast or testicle can be an indicator of cancer in those locations. Skin cancer (melanoma) is often noted by a change in a wart or mole on the skin. Some oral cancers present white patches inside the mouth or white spots on the tongue. Other cancers have symptoms that are less physically apparent. Some brain tumors tend to present symptoms early in the disease as they affect important cognitive functions. Pancreas cancers are usually too small to cause symptoms until they cause pain by pushing against nearby nerves or interfere with liver function to cause a yellowing of the skin and eyes called jaundice. Symptoms also can be created as a tumor grows and pushes against organs and blood vessels. For example, colon cancers lead to symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, and changes in stool size. Bladder or prostate cancers cause changes in bladder function such as more frequent or infrequent urination. As cancer cells use the body's energy and interfere with normal hormone function, it is possible to present symptoms such as fever, fatigue, excessive sweating, anemia, and unexplained weight loss. However, these symptoms are common in several other maladies as well. For example, coughing and hoarseness can point to lung or throat cancer as well as several other conditions. When cancer spreads, or metastasizes, additional symptoms can present themselves in the newly affected area. Swollen or enlarged lymph nodes are common and likely to be present early. If cancer spreads to the brain, patients may experience vertigo, headaches, or seizures. Spreading to the lungs may cause coughing and shortness of breath. In addition, the liver may become enlarged and cause jaundice and bones can become painful, brittle, and break easily. Symptoms of metastasis ultimately depend on the location to which the cancer has spread.

I did a lot of research. I went around to almost 15 driving schools made enquiries got information and would go back to my car and jot things down and how I would differ from what they were doing and try
How did you come up with this idea? During the world cup year we were expecting a lot of people coming to our country and I saw an opportunity of producing quality drivers. Looking at accidents and experience I always felt that the driving schools were not producing quality drivers.
How long did that actually take you to set

What’s your top piece of advice for others looking to turn their idea into a successful business?
There is a thin line between having hope
and having an idea. Don.t spend to much time on the idea and don’t be scared of
taking risk.
To be successful in life you don’t need a lot of money, I didn’t even have R5000 to my name when I started my business. I believe that you look at what you have that is Time, Idea and Energy to start your business and money becomes a bonus.

Have you ever dreamed of running a nightclub business? Though it takes careful planning and a considerable amount of time, you can learn how to open a nightclub with the steps below. Opening a nightclub can be a very profitable business for years to come when managed correctly. Step 1
Step 4
Write out your business and marketing plans.
Hire all your staff.
These plans will help you get all of your ideas together to determine what you need to be successful. It will help you figure out how much money you need and will help you secure the funding. The marketing plan will show how you're going to get the word out about the nightclub and how you're going to try to beat the competition.
You will need to hire at least security staff, management staff and waitstaff. Make sure you have someone to check the door, 1 person or more to operate the bar, and plenty of security personnel to handle potentially unruly guests.
_______________________________________ Step 5
_______________________________________ Step 2 Apply for all permits, licensing, and business insurance as required by local, state, and federal law. This will vary based on where you will be operating the business, but you will need permits if you intend to sell alcoholic beverages.
Develop relationships with all your distributors and suppliers. You will need people to supply your food, drinks, utensils, marketing materials, and more. Talk to several different companies to secure the best deal on everything you need.
_______________________________________ Step 6
_______________________________________ Step 3 Secure your location. Choose a place ideal for your target audience. If the location was previously used as a nightclub, this is a definite plus. If not, you will have to pay additional money to get the building remodeled accordingly. Hire a designer to handle the decor.
Schedule entertainment. People at nightclubs will enjoy music. Even if you don't schedule live bands or entertainment, hire a DJ to play music so guests can dance.
Step 7 Market and promote the nightclub. You don't necessarily have to hire a promoter to help you, but you should use several different mediums to market and promote the club's opening. Provide specials to encourage people to attend. Use word-of-mouth, posters, business cards, and social media to promote the club as much as you can. If you can afford it, budget some radio or TV advertisements to broadcast to the local area.
_______________________________________ Step 8 Get ready for opening night. Make sure the club is presentable and all your staff is there, trained, and ready to go. When you are ready, open the doors to the public. _______________________________________
