SKILLS Design Statement I’d like to try something totally different, so I chose interaction design.

In the second year, I took service design class to understand the frontstage and backstage of a system with 4D prinsiple. Milan, the fashion city of the world, where I took kintting course. Recently I took

part in New Fun in Crafts Project. For me, design is all about fusion of many fields and an go-on adapting process.

I’ve never thought about being an exchange student to Italy, and even falling in love with this amazing country. Besides learning the body language in daily life, I also took the language course in Polimi.

Because I don’t like to give up, when coming back from Milan, I kept learning Italiano until this April. I told to myself, one day in the future, I will speak to italian grandma landlord in italian.

Multy-disciplinary Team Work In my master life, I tried to explore more possibilties of what I can do, so I chose the master of interaction in Taiwan RueiHuei Liang to be my professor. I started to engage in many multy-disciplinary team

work, I took part in OpenHCI which organized by graduate students of National Taiwan University and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. I keep trying to seek potential power of crossdisciplinary communication and collaboration and the preliminary

knowledge of user experience engineering (UXE) and humancentered design (HCD). It’s a big challenge for me to cooperate

with others from IT. Beside HCI, in these years , I absorb as much as interaction knowlege as I can, under industrial foudation, not only equiped usability, but also the pleasure.( Jordan,1996)

rare cases, stuttering may be acquired in adulthood as the result of a neurological event such as a head injury, tumour, stroke, or

Before the final concept, we do a competitive analysis to sort out the final direction, the specific target user and the senario.

For the purpose of medical rehabilitation, there are lots of assistant a.d. in the market to help aphasia gradually. But those apps aren't instant and can't help patient to comminicate immediately.

Finally, we come out with "GOTCHA" which is a mobile phone input method for Aphasia Patient with naming deficits. Users can open

any app with GOTCHA input to communicate with others.

Design Finally, we come out with new guidebook and display board. Both of them follow the concept of

"Colorful Jenju". Our team choose classic five colors to present the energy of Jenju just like the 5-flavor homemade icecream in Jenju. Guidebook

In The guidebook consists of

postcards. Tourist could tear the guidebook apart to be many pieces of postcards and send by Jenju. Display Board

OpenHCI 2011 is the 2nd workshop on HCI held in National Taiwan

University. This workshop was initiated and organized by graduate students of National Taiwan University and National Taiwan University of

The topic of this workshop is FUN & INDOOR. Our team chose the

Who could line up for me temprorarily If I want to go to the

domain of the public restroom and focused on people's behavior

In anthropology, human behaviors are framed by some

situations such as walking following the line on the pavement

under consciousness. Line makes everything in order. So finally, we decided to design a dynamic LINE.

When being covered by feet of user, the LDR sensor can easily sense the accurate position

of the user and then make projector project a yellowish orange dot underneath user's feet.

About Core of perceptual- crossing /

With visual feedback serving as a major output of current interaction through Internet, we aim to explore how alternative sensory output

can enrich the experience of mediated social connection. Thoughtfully

making design choices, we deliver an artifact called InTouch to address the qualities we are interested in. InTouch is made of iron case with ark

wooden frame and elastic Lycra. By pressing a link, it can express her consideration for a friend. When pressed, the color changes from blue to red, while raising the temperature on a friend's device. One movement

triggers two senses, namley touch and vision, forming perceptual- crossing as perceiving while being perceived.

Through delivering InTouch, could we enhance the interaction through perceiving while being perceived? Could two-way communication create new user experience ?

CRAFT IN NEW / Craft Design A story about Taiwan

The charming of a product is the story behind /

Thanks to Craft in New Project, we got the chance to learn the glass

technique. In this project, our team members focus on the relationship

between "Taiwan Nature" and "Glass": Nature phenomenon and local species from huge to little scale: Landscape( mountain), Tension( dynamic

and Static ), plant( moss), animal( amphibian). First work "landscape": Different from Western painting, Oriental ink painting is more abstract and soft. Like Zhang Daqian‘s landscape painting, it includes "near(the path)"

"middle(from top to low)" "distance(sense of space)". Second, tension is

a capture of ZEN moment: full of elegance and silence(Reference: wabi sabi), Third, the vitality of small moss which is not eye-catching but with

stunning power, standing for those strong species in Taiwan. The last but not the least work is the cute amphibian: Taiwan is humid tropical island, a small island floating among those big countries with 150 times the species

of the whole world. Our group chooses the amphibian is because of it's

ability of quick adaption in water and land. In this project, we combine craft

with digital sensor. When people leave the object, the small amphibain starts to breathe( breathing light).

This project from the begining is all about Taiwan

instead of physical property. From the very begining, we sketch lots of different type, forms,

unique Taiwan features not just animal and moutain, even architecture. Take amphibain for example,

we try to bring the cat's behavior into the object( Personification). Nowadays, human beings still can't

live without nature, under such a pressure, maybe our work could someway cure people's minds.

Landscape technique:Glass gravity sagging bay kiln burning, glaze, grinding. Tension technique: hollow blown glass, CNC ABS, plating. Moss technique: Solid tube blown.

SAFER-SHOT is a new syringe design that could effectively reduce the

nurses from being pricked. Without changing the original training and using experiences, we deigned the new opening from the side of cap so that nurses could recap the needle safely and easily.


Issue In Taiwan, the medical SOP training requests the paramedic to recap with single hand for the safety. But under the urgent situation or without working surface, they

might recap with both hands and the caliber of the cap is too small to do without putting themselves at risk of being pricked.

Every nurse has her/his own cart, which is equipped with medicines, recycle can of abandoned syringes. But it’s too heavy to carry around for nurse( Figure1).

According to specifications and requirements of different hospitals, designs of specific carts vary. Above are from Changhua Christian Hospital. The recycle bin

contains four categories( Figure2): hollow barrel, needle, plastic and glass bottle, Amp Vial. Besides, there are three unique designs for dropping off the syringe ( Fugure3~5).


Main Problem The problem can be divided into three aspects

-The human factor due to negligence of medical staff. -The out-of-control situation caused by patients.

-The last but not the least, the desing of the syringe, which is our goal.

Problem Definition

1/ The opening of the cap is too small to recap. 2/ Must recap vertically or it will prick.

3/ Too busy to follow the SOP process. 4/ Recaps with the wrong cap.

5/ Can't find the cap because it's transparent. 6/ Cap is round which is easily rolling around.

7/ The pressure on the single point is so high that could pierce the cap easily.


How to recap? 2

The first stage, we try to recap from the back to front, which is quite dangerous

cause user's fingers might be pricked by the bevel easily when recapping.

Recap from front to back. There are two

solution. First, try to hide the needle inside the body. First, it's quick, but complicated in manufacturing, which also needs to

redesign the body. Second, enlarge the opening so that it's easier for recapping.

Finally, we came out the idea that recapping form the side is the best way to prevent access from the bevel.

The green rubber part is for re-cap guiding and making SAFER-SHOT sealed tightly.

The curved surface makes it easier to recap the needle.The form makes SAFER-SHOT easily held by hand.


Final

1/ The shape makes the SAFER-SHOT more stable. 2/ On a messed working surface, the size of cap and needle hub are matched by color. In this project, I learn how to consider the design from the whole process. But still, my partner and I think there must remain lots things to be done and adjusted in this project. So, we won't stop working on.


COMPASLER / Product Design Compassler is a new stationary combined of ruler and compasses. Team Members/ Designers

Compassler transforms the normal ruler by designing a hollow rail

track. The hollow section is easy for user to see the content of the underneath paper.And the slide on the rail track with two holes is for different kind of pens to put in. Between the two holes is lock.User can fasten the lock and press the center button to draw a circle.

The multi-functions of Compassler not only enhance the efficiency of learning but also create new usability for user.


Main Problem While we want to draw a circle, we need not only a compass (divider) but also a ruler. It really occupies the space for bringing both

compass (divider) and ruler. If we forget bring a ruler, we even can’t draw an accurate circle. Therefore, I combined them into a product, Compasler that can use as a ruler but also can draw an accurate circle.

Users might find somethings round to draw a circle, or combine ruler and compass, or draw lots of diameter lines to make a circle.

Features Slide: In the middle of the slide is a fastener that you can fasten it at the size you want to draw. The slide has two holes that you can put pen in it. Compassler can draw circles in diameter between 2-29cm. Center: In shape of cone. As compassler's needle.

CORNER BOX / Product Design Corner Box is a simple cardboard case design. Team Members/ Designers

Corner Box is a simple cardboard case design. To prevent hurting fingers

from unloading a heavy cardboard case to the ground, we make a small design on the corner which provides a concave space for fingers-in by folding yellow-zone corner.


Main Problem How can people unload a heavy

cardboard case to the ground without hurting fingers? Some might use feet to hold the heavy cardboard for a second before putting it down.

Features Make triangle dieline on the diagonal corner of each box, then use fingers

to manually fold the yellow-zone corner. The concave corner offers

3-fingers-in space. With redesigned corner, pulling one box in the middle out of a pile of cardboard cases is easy.


UNDER THE TREE / Public Trasportation A bus stop brings the traditional moment undert the tree.

Numerous beautiful moments were born beneath the tree. Many touching stories were created at the bus stop. By redesigning the appearance of a bus stop from a traditional vertical pillar to a curve one, it increases shelter for people and create a graceful sculpture on the bustling streets.The bus

stop roof is coated with leaf-shaped silver chloride, and its transparency changes with light intensity.



In the daytime, beautiful sunshine drops tree shadows on to the floor, people waiting at the bus stop is

Features The surface of the bus stop roof glass is covered with a layer of Sodium Silver, which is sensitive to light and will change its

transparency base on the surrounding brightness.It has the ability to absorb and rebound UV rays, so it can be view as a sunshade and protect people from sunburn.

There are slim solar panels on the branch parts, this system can

generate more power with less illumination, and the power can be reserve for lighting system at night.

The whole tree shimmers at night so people can find the bus stop

easily.The trunk part becomes brighter as system senses there are

people waiting at the bus stop, so it provides a safer waiting zone and make it easier for bus drivers to see if there are passengers waiting.

Shadow: The branch and trunk parts are

embedded with film solar panels, which collect daylight and furnish passengers with illumination at nights.

Sloar panel: Daylight is the energy source for night time lighting

Lighting: This marks the bus stop location and make it easier for bud drivers to see if there are people waiting.

During the night, the bus stop luminesces fine lights, while buses drive through and carry people home.
