You may also enjoy a cup of coffee at the Welcome Center’s coffee bar and get to know others at Second.

Children’s worship bags, filled with books and activities, are available at the Sanctuary entrances. If you’d like an alternative for your children, childcare for birth through Pre-K is available on Level 2 at any point in the service. Our Welcome Center is also available for those with restless infants, and you can view the service on a monitor there.

Meet our Guest Preacher

Rev. Anna Holladay started serving as Pastor of Missions and Communication at Holmeswood Baptist Church in August 2016. She was born and raised in Louisville, KY. She graduated from the University of Louisville with a BA in Psychology and earned her Master of Divinity in 2015 at Wake Forest University School of Divinity. After graduating from Wake Divinity, Anna spent a year in Chicago through the Episcopal Service Corps where she served as Community Engagement Director in a local parish. She has also served in NYC, Romania, and India through CBF’’s student missions program, Student.Go. Anna loves to travel, learn about different cultures, re-read Harry Potter, play with her nieces (when they happen to be in the same city), practice yoga, laugh, and enjoy a good meal with friends.

Helen Brown has been a member of Second Baptist since the fall of 1967 when she moved to Liberty with Don to join the music faculty of William Jewell College. She is a deacon, involved in the Sanctuary Choir, the Adult Handbell Choir, and Beginning Handbells, as well as many other church activities.

Jeff Buscher is the Chaplain at Jewell and has served there since 2004. He and Kayle, have grown children. They have a grandson, Jonah, who lives with his parents in Helena, Montana. Jeff is currently chairing the Missions Committee and also coordinates Jewell’s Village Partners international service projects.

Caroline Casel is a 9th grader at Liberty North High School. She is the daughter of Julie and Greg Casel.

Jackson Edwards is a third grader at Franklin Elementary. He is the son of Christy and Jason Edwards.

Davis Fulk is a 9th grader at Liberty North High School. He is the son of Carolyn and David Fulk.

Laura Oberkrom was raised at 2BC from birth. She rejoined 2BC again after moving back to Liberty in 2014. Laura is a claim representative at Farmers Insurance.

Andrea Rogers received her Bachelor of Science in Trumpet Performance at William Jewell College in 2003. She performs in several groups around KC including: The Kansas City Wind Symphony, The NorthStar Band, The Liberty Summer Band, Shawnee Mission Theater in the Park and Gladstone Theater in the Park.

Bill Stilfield is a Liberty native who recently returned after spending forty years in Los Angeles working in the music industry. He is a member of the choir, and he and Cathy, have been members of Second since 2013.

Jacque Stouffer has been a member of 2BC since 1992. She is a fundraising consultant who loves to read in her spare time. She and Bert have two grown children.

Paul Twenter and Julie have two children, Mallory and Paige. Paul is the leader of the Decision Analytics Consulting Practice at HNTB Corporation. The burnt ends from the brisket that Paul smokes are heaven on earth!

Lily Weaver is an 8th grader at Heritage Middle School. She is the daughter of Christie and Kevin Weaver.

Dustin Williams has attended 2BC regularly since 1999 and enjoys participating in the music ministry. Since earning his DMA in Trumpet Performance at UMKC he has stayed active as a freelance musician and educator. In his free time Dustin enjoys doing CrossFit and outdoor activities. In 2016 Dustin and Julie moved to Liberty to make a home.

GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING BARITONE DANIEL BELCHER Grammy Award-winning baritone Daniel Belcher will be singing in worship January 21st at the 11:00 service. While he has sung more than 70 operatic roles in many of the world’s music capitals, he grew up in St. Joe, Mo. He majored in vocal performance at William Jewell and frequented the WJC Study Nights hosted at 2BC. He was graduated in 1992. He came to international attention in 2004 while singing in Paris. London’s The Guardian said Belcher was “possessing the kind of powerhouse stuff that indicates a star in the making.” While performing around the world, Daniel makes his home in Liberty with his wife, Kathleen, and their daughter, Madeline.

JANUARY 21 CHURCH CONFERENCE AND CHILI COOKOFF 12:15 p.m. (immediately after 11:00 a.m. worship) Get your best chili-making skills warmed up, because the lunch for the January Church Conference will be a chili cookoff — with prizes! To enter your chili, please contact Dawn Thurlo in the church office with your name and the name of your chili. All entries need to be the size of a large crock pot or a similar size pot that can be warmed on the stove. Get into the competitive spirit and show off your chili-making skills. Financial Peace University (FPU) is a nine-lesson class on money management taught via video by America's most trusted financial guru, Dave Ramsey. Dave and his teaching team will walk you through the basics of budgeting, dumping debt, planning for the future and much more.

Brandon and Jessica Greason are leading the course at 2BC. This will be the third time the Greasons have led FPU, after having gone through the course themselves seven years ago.

He spent a day taking in all that the beautiful city of Chicago has to offer, we'll do it in a weekend! February 16-18 high school students will road trip to Chicago, IL to experience all that the Windy City has to offer.

We'll leave on Friday and return on Sunday night.

Churchwide Hymn Sing and Reception Welcoming Chip and Marcie Handrich Sunday, January 28 Hymn Sing 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. | Sanctuary Reception 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. | Social Room This church-wide hymn sing to welcome Chip and Marcie will be led by David Fulk, Bill Stilfield, and Ron Whited. They presented it at the Corbin Theatre in September. Enjoy choosing your favorite hymns played by Ron. Bill and David will also lead some hymn medleys in a jazz/gospel style for everyone to sing.

As a part of the afternoon reception, please bring notes of encouragement for Chip & Marcie to welcome them to our community. In addition, if you would also like to participate in ‘pounding’ the Handrichs, we ask that you consider providing gift cards to local grocery stores (e.g. Sprouts, HyVee, Aldi, Natural Grocers) so they can get to know which stores best meet their needs.

2BC MINISTRY FAIR Sunday, January 28, 2018 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. • 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. • 12:00 – 12:30 p.m. | Social Room You are invited to participate in the 3rd Annual Ministry Fair at 2BC. The Ministry Fair will provide a time for individuals to explore service opportunities at 2BC. We invite each ministry area to host a half-table to share information about their overall ministry and volunteer needs. The goal of this event is to provide a space for ministry leaders to make intentional connections with those seeking meaningful ways to engage in ministry. This is an excellent way to learn about the work of our church ministries. The Ministry Fair is part of a month-long focus on equipping.

COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE St. James Blood Drive: You are invited to attend the next Community Blood Center blood drive at St. James Catholic Church in Liberty on Tuesday, January 23, from 12:30-7:00 p.m. in the social hall. There is a shortage of blood in our area and the CBC could really use your help to replenish their supply.
