If you are a first-time guest, we invite you to complete a guest card from a pew pocket or the Friendship Register and drop it in the offering plate so that we may get acquainted with you. Also, text “Explore” to 816-355-4736. We would like to communicate with you via text and email with some brief informational messages over the next few weeks. Your information is private and will not be used for any other purpose than to keep you informed about 2BC. Please see an usher if you’d like a listening aid. Each Sunday in the Welcome Center (just inside the Kansas Street entrance on Level 1), Our Hospitality Team is waiting to help you get connected. This may include finding a Bible study class, showing you where children and student ministries meet, or sharing the day’s activities and schedule. You may also enjoy a cup of coffee at the Welcome Center’s coffee bar and get to know others at Second. Children’s worship bags, filled with books and activities, are available at the Sanctuary entrances. If you’d like an alternative for your children, childcare for birth through Pre-K is available on Level 2 at any point in the service. Our Welcome Center is also available for those with restless infants, and you can view the service on a monitor there.
In addition to placing your offering in the offering plate, you can give online at 2bcliberty.org/give or via your smartphone by scanning this QR code. We have “online giving” cards in the pew rack that you can place in the offering plate to represent your gift if you choose.
Take a moment to prepare your heart for worship.
What is both Good and New about the Good News is the mad insistence that Jesus lives on among us not just as another haunting memory but as the outlandish, holy, and invisible power of God working not just through the sacraments, but in countless hidden ways to make even slobs like us loving and whole beyond anything we could conceivably pull off by ourselves. Thus the Gospel is not only Good and New, but if you take it seriously, a Holy Terror. Jesus never claimed that the process of being changed from a slob into a human being was going to be a Sunday School picnic. On the contrary, childbirth may occasionally be painless, but rebirth never. Part of what it means to be a slob is to hang on for dear life to our slobbery. —Frederick Beuchner, Wishful Thinking

IT'S A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION The pipe organ at Second Baptist was originally installed by the Wicks Organ Company of Highland, Illinois, in 1927-28. The dedicatory recital was played by Dr. Fichthorn on Tuesday, March 6, 1928. Second Baptist will be celebrating her 175th anniversary in May. The pipe organ has been in place and in use for over half the life of the church. There was a pipe organ in the previous church building which burned in 1920. CONSOLE AND PIPES TOUR Throughout the month of February, you are invited to an "open console and pipe tour." After worship each week, you are welcome to come to the console for an explanation of all the buttons, stops, and whistles. You are also invited to play the instrument. Those who wish to go up to the pipe chambers will see where the sounds are actually produced. If you would like to do this during the week, call Ann Posey to make an appointment. RECITAL To celebrate this birthday, there will be a recital on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, 7 pm. The program will follow the seasons of the Liturgical Year: Advent through Reformation, and will include congregational song. There will be a surprise at the end. At the conclusion of the program, there will be a reception in the Assembly Room.
