Call to Worship

John 12:12-16

Leader: The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, Congregation: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the king of Israel!” Leader: Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written: Congregation: “Do not be afraid, Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” Leader: At first the disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him. This is the Word of the Lord. Congregation: Thanks be to God! Leader: Hosanna! Blessed is Jesus who comes in God’s Name! We stand at the gates of our Jerusalem and wave our branches high. Congregation: We get caught up in the excitement of the parade. Jesus sits astride a donkey, a beast of burden bearing a most precious gift. Leader: Let the joy fill our hearts this day as we shout our Hosannas.

Congregation: Praise God for the wondrous ways in which our lives have been touched. Leader: But remember that the shouting will die out and the time of trial will still lie ahead of us. Congregation:The branches become broken and ground into dust as the nails are driven into the hands and feet of the One who would save us. Leader: Wave the branches, people. Weep. For your Savior is about to give you his whole life. —Nancy C. Townley, Ministry Matters Practicing the Presence of God Each Sunday in Lent we extinguish a candle as we move closer to the darkness of Good Friday.

+Hymn of Response

“O Love That Will Not Let Me Go”

Jason Edwards ST. MARGARET

O Love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee; I give Thee back the life I owe, That in Thine ocean depths its flow may richer, fuller be. O Light that foll’west all my way, I yield my flick’ring torch to Thee; My heart restores its borrowed ray, That in Thy sunshine’s blaze its day may brighter, fairer be. O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to Thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain that morn shall tearless be.

O Cross that liftest up my head, I dare not ask to fly from Thee; I lay in dust life’s glory dead, And from the ground there blossoms red Life that shall endless be. The worship of the living God invites our response. Those who wish to profess faith in Christ and/or to unite with the church are invited to come forward and share your decision . +Unison Confession and Offertory Prayer Because we are all betrayers, Taking silver And eating body and blood And asking “Is it I?” And hearing Him say yes, It would be simple for us all to condemn ourselves. But if we find grace to cry and wait After the voice of morning Has crowed in our ears clearly enough To break our hearts, He will be there to ask us each again “Do you love me”? Offertory

“Ah, Dearest Jesus”

—Lucy Shaw, Adapted Johannes Brahms (11:00)

+Presentation of Offerings 7 “Worthy of Worship” You are worthy, Father, Creator. You are worthy, Savior, Sustainer. You are worthy, worthy and wonderful; worthy of worship and praise.
