WELCOME TO WORSHIP! If you are a first-time guest, we invite you to complete a guest card from a pew pocket or the Friendship Register and drop it in the offering plate so that we may get acquainted with you. Also, text “Explore” to 816-355-4736. We would like to communicate with you via text and email with some brief informational messages over the next few weeks. Your information is private and will not be used for any other purpose than to keep you informed about 2BC. Please see an usher if you’d like a listening aid.
GETTING CONNECTED AT 2BC Each Sunday in the Welcome Center (just inside the Kansas Street entrance on Level 1), Our Hospitality Team is waiting to help you get connected. This may include finding a Bible study class, showing you where children and student ministries meet, or sharing the day’s activities and schedule. You may also enjoy a cup of coffee at the Welcome Center’s coffee bar and get to know others at Second.
Your Entire Family is Welcome! Children’s worship bags, filled with books and activities, are available at the Sanctuary entrances. If you’d like an alternative for your children, childcare for birth through Pre-K is available on Level 2 at any point in the service. Our Welcome Center is also available for those with restless infants, and you can view the service on a monitor there.
MEDITATION Take a moment to prepare your heart for worship “Forgiveness is an answer, the divine answer, to the question implied in our existence.” Paul Tillich The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
ONLINE/SMARTPHONE GIVING In addition to placing your offering in the offering plate, you can give online at 2bcliberty.org/give or via your smartphone by scanning this QR code. The schedule is: Saturday, May 6…Global 6K for Clean Water at 9:00 a.m. at English Landing Park in Parkville, MO. Walk it, run it, you will even see people pushing strollers. Families will participate. Seasoned runners and casual walkers will cover the average distance that people in the world have to travel to find the cleanest water which still may not be safe enough. People 16 and older pay the $50 entry fee, those 15 and under pay $25 and those riding in strollers are free. (I know what you’re thinking. Don’t try it. Strollers are expensive.) There is no fund raising, just the $50 entry fee which will provide safe, clean drinking water for one person for life. Your race bib will also give you a person to pray for as you participate. We can have at least 50 2BC people and their friends participate. Sunday, May 7 9:00-9:30 a.m. Extended gathering music in the sanctuary provided by the Wildwood Boys 9:30-10:00 a.m. Worship in the Sanctuary, then dismissed to go to the serving opportunity you have chosen/choose. 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. At project sites. 12:30-2:30 p.m. Stocksdale Park for hamburgers, hot dogs, sides and cake celebration, sharing, a few game opportunities and Bluegrass music with the Wildwood Boys.

The Worship of God Celebration of our 174th Anniversary Strengthening Our Serve You may have heard it said here that missions is in the DNA of Second Baptist Church. I have certainly found that to be true. Second Baptist Church was founded because other Baptist churches 174 years ago weren’t mission minded enough, if it all. We will celebrate that heritage as we celebrate our anniversary this year with a special mission project involving the whole church. As we celebrate, we will Look Back and Thank God; Look Forward and Trust God; and Look Around and Serve God. Look Back and Thank God… What better way is there to honor those who believed in a church that would tell the good news outside the walls by speaking and living it. The children recently placed posters around the church thanking those who volunteer. One of the posters used a saying from St. Francis of Assisi, “The deeds you do may be the only sermon some persons will hear today,” which is at the heart of serving. This church gets that. Look Forward and Trust God… We continue to form partnerships with mission and ministry groups that are passionate about serving marginalized people beginning in Liberty. Forming these relationships means we believe in the dream of God and that we can accomplish more in collaboration in the days ahead. We anticipate the future for Second Baptist Church and we want to continue to impact the Liberty community in positive ways. Look Around and Serve God… Service is worship. The weekend of our 174th Anniversary celebration will give us the opportunity to worship by serving others in Liberty and beyond as a community of Faith. May 6 is the Team World Vision Global 6K for clean water, and Sunday, May 7, we will arrange our worship around a different schedule giving everyone an opportunity to serve. Families will have a chance to teach their children about taking the time to think of others. Just as corporate worship allows us to offer worship together, we will experience the same as people of all ages serve together. —Mike Lassiter

Leader:
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
People:
Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!
Leader:
If you kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?
People:
But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
Leader:
My soul waits, and in his word I hope;
People:
O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love.
Each Sunday in Lent we extinguish a candle as we move closer to the darkness of Good Friday.

As a speaker and author, Alicia places words like an artist applying paint to a canvas. Nothing is wasted. Every word matters. Heads and hearts are equally engaged. Alicia holds a doctorate in leadership and spiritual formation from George Fox Evangelical Seminary. In addition to writing and speaking, she is the founding director of Leadership Investment Intensives, Inc., a non-profit devoted to providing personal soul-care to leaders in the marketplace and church.
Alongside her husband, she stewards a lakeside prayer retreat home called Rivendell in Branson and parents their three children in the Ozarks of Missouri where the stars shine brightly and their dogs bark loudly.
A “second cup of tea” event will follow the luncheon for parents of children with special needs. Alicia and her husband have adopted three children with special needs and she has a high passion for caring for parents’ emotional and spiritual needs as they walk through this amazing experience. Reservations for this event are also required but there is no additional charge. Childcare is available but must be reserved for both the luncheon and the after event.

PALM SUNDAY Parents, Palm Sunday is a great time for children to participate in worship. After Sunday School, please bring your child to the Assembly Room right behind the sanctuary. We will line up and give out palm branches to every child, and get ready to process into the sanctuary on both sides during the first hymn. The children will process around the sanctuary, then come to the front and meet Gwen and hear a word from Mr. David. They will lay their branches at the front before going back to sit with you or to worship childcare. If your little one is three or younger, please plan to process with us. Questions? Ask Gwen!

SECOND SESSIONS Wednesdays April 19-May 3 | Assembly Room Second Baptist Church is a 174 year old Christian church, established by Baptists. We are a congregation that studies and serves. We find ourselves in a very different world than when the church was first established! We want to model this scriptural teaching to us, “ He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” [Micah 6:8] Second Baptist Church wants to be this kind of congregation in a world that is much in need of justice, mercy and humility. We believe we have more in common than we hold in difference with our brothers and sisters of other faiths and other Christian traditions. Our senior pastor, Jason Edwards will facilitate the conversation with members of the Roman Catholic tradition, the Islamic tradition and the Jewish tradition. The theme for each evening is “I See You.” The following quotes explain where this greeting comes from and what it wishes to convey:
The Zulu greeting, “Sawubona” means “ I see you” and the response “Ngikhona” means “I am here”. I love the depth of meaning that African languages carry. Inherent in the Zulu greeting and in the grateful response, is the sense that until you saw me, I didn’t exist. By recognizing me, you brought me into existence. A Zulu folk saying clarifies this, “Umuntu ngumuntu nagabantu“, meaning “A person is a person because of other people. “Sawubona” has a long oral history and it means more than our traditional "hello." It says, "I see your personality. I see your humanity. I see your dignity and respect." In the African village context, where everyone knows one another, it's an exceedingly powerful representation of understanding.” We want our guests from the Roman Catholic, Islamic and Jewish communities to help us really see them and the people of their faith tradition so that we will strive for justice, mercy and humility for all people—not just those whom we have learned to see because they “look” like us but those whom we must learn to see in new, more meaningful and human ways. Coming in May…. May 10 Children’s Choirs Annual Evening May 17 Stu Talks (our 2nd annual version of Ted Talks from our wise students)
