If you are a first-time guest, please complete a guest card from a pew pocket or Friendship Register and drop it in the offering plate so that we may get acquainted with you. Also, text “Explore” to 816-355-4736. We would like to communicate with you via text and email with some brief informational messages over the next few weeks. Please see an usher if you’d like a listening aid. Each Sunday in the Welcome Center (just inside the Kansas Street entrance on Level 1), our Hospitality Team is waiting to help you get connected. This may include finding a Bible study class, showing you where children and student ministries meet, or sharing the day’s activities and schedule. You may also enjoy a cup of coffee at the Welcome Center’s coffee bar and get to know others at Second.

Take a moment to prepare your heart for worship…

Emotional health and spiritual maturity cannot be separated. It is impossible to be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature. Peter Scazzero

Your entire family is welcome here! Children’s worship bags filled with books and activities are available at the Sanctuary entrances. If you’d like an alternative for your children, childcare for birth through Pre-K is available on Level 2 at any point in the service. Our Welcome Center is also available for those with restless infants, and you can view the service on a monitor there. In addition to placing your offering in the offering plate, you can give online at 2bcliberty.org/give or via your smartphone by scanning this QR code. We have “online giving” cards in the pew rack that you can place in the offering plate to represent your gift if you choose.

CHURCHWIDE DEVOTIONAL READING STARTS MONDAY Today we begin a new sermon series called “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality,” and our church family is encouraged to purchase the accompanying book that will lead us through 40 days of devotions to enrich our study. The book, “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day-by-Day,” is $9 if purchased at the church office or can be purchased through other booksellers. NOMINATIONS FOR MUSIC PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE The Leadership Development Committee would appreciate nominations for individuals to serve on the Music Pastor Search Committee. To make a nomination, email Committee Chair Amy Duncan at amybduncan1@gmail.com or contact the church office at 816-781-2824. MOPS CHILDCARE WORKERS NEEDED MOPS is looking for helpers who can provide childcare from 9:15-11:45 one Friday a month from September through May. We pay $25 per morning. Please email us at mops2bc@gmail.com if you would like to help in this important outreach ministry. We appreciate the support that our church has given and continues to give to these moms and children. MOPS@2BC is also accepting applications for participants for the 2016-17 year for moms of children from birth through Kindergarten. Visit 2bcliberty.org/mops to fill one out. BAPTISM: A CONVERSATION Throughout the fall, the deacons will lead a churchwide exploration of the concept of baptism and its role in our individual and collective faith. There will be a variety of ways to join the conversation, starting with an all-church lunch after the 11:00 service on Sept. 18. Mark Wingfield from Dallas will help us start the conversation and identify important questions for us to explore. Opportunities will include a Wednesday night book study and a Biblical Sunday morning study. We’ll also hear a variety of personal baptism stories from our own community of faith. Plan to engage in this important conversation.

NOW RECRUITING ADVENT WRITERS It's time to flex your head, heart, and finger muscles and get on the 2BC's Advent Booklet Writers’ roster. Rookie or old pro, we want you. No try-outs necessary. Just agree to respond by way of reflection or a story to a scripture we assign for one day of Advent. We're looking for all ages and even family teams to take a date. What finer gift than your own words put to paper to make these holy days even more meaningful. Ready to get started? Email booklet editor Sue Wright at suewrights@att.net, or call 781-1568 if you need more info or a pep talk. STUDENTS

INFO MEETING/INNERMISSION TONIGHT Info Meeting at 5 p.m.; Innermission at 6 p.m. | Student Ministry Room | At this meeting for parents, we’ll talk about our weekly schedule and share details about Fall Retreat, our monthly Student Fun Nights, and chances to volunteer. Fall’s first Innermission will follow. MISSIONS DONATIONS FOR ROMANIA TRIP Return donations to the Welcome Center by Aug. 28 The “Heartland Quilters” group has been invited to return to Romania Aug. 30 to continue to teach Roma women to make quality quilted items they can sell to supplement their income. Would you consider donating fabric or sample size toiletry/beauty items for the women? See the bin in the Welcome Center for specific fabrics needed. Also, pray for safe travel, deeper connections with the women and acceptance of Jesus Christ into their hearts and homes. STEPHEN MINISTRY TRAINING STARTS OCT. 3 Seven reasons why YOU should consider becoming a Stephen Minister. Reason #6: Stephen Ministers are skilled caregivers! Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of training before they are commissioned by 2BC and assigned to care receivers. They learn skills like listening, identifying and expressing feelings, setting boundaries, and being assertive. They receive ongoing support/supervision from their peer Stephen Ministers. They feel well-prepared to walk alongside people in crisis, whether with a care receiver or in their own relationships with family, friends, and coworkers. For a training schedule, questions or information, contact Mike Lassiter (mlassiter@2bcliberty.org; 816-781-2824) or Carol Kingery (ckingery@kc.rr.com; 816-916-8407).
