If you are a first-time guest, we invite you to complete a guest card from a pew pocket or the Friendship Register and drop it in the offering plate so that we may get acquainted with you. Also, text “Explore” to 816-355-4736. We would like to communicate with you via text and email with some brief informational messages over the next few weeks. Your information is private and will not be used for any other purpose than to keep you informed about 2BC.

Take a moment to prepare your heart for worship Of all the winds that blow on love, the demand for money is the coldest and most destructive. —Gustave Flaubert .

Please see an usher if you’d like a listening aid. Each Sunday in the Welcome Center (just inside the Kansas Street entrance on Level 1), Our Hospitality Team is waiting to help you get connected. This may include finding a Bible study class, showing you where children and student ministries meet, or sharing the day’s activities and schedule. You may also enjoy a cup of coffee at the Welcome Center’s coffee bar and get to know others at Second. Children’s worship bags, filled with books and activities, are available at the Sanctuary entrances. If you’d like an alternative for your children, childcare for birth through Pre-K is available on Level 2 at any point in the service. Our Welcome Center is also available for those with restless infants, and you can view the service on a monitor there.

In addition to placing your offering in the offering plate, you can give online at 2bcliberty.org/give or via your smartphone by scanning this QR code. We have “online giving” cards in the pew rack that you can place in the offering plate to represent your gift if you choose.

Ask questions and chat about anything you want to know as you get familiar with the 2BC faith family. Please make reservations on The Hub or by calling the church office.

FALL FESTIVAL HOSPITALITY SIGN-UP With the annual Fall Festival in downtown Liberty, Second Baptist will offer the Hospitality Place to the festival goers September 22-23. People appreciate having the Welcome Center open Friday and Saturday as well as the free shuttle provided by 2BC. And again this year we ask for volunteers, in two-hour shifts, to staff the Hospitality Place and to drive the shuttle. If you enjoy extending hospitality and meeting people, then this opportunity is for you. Sign up on The Hub or call the church office at 781-2824. WEEKDAY VOLUNTEER NEED We are in need of volunteers to be available on an as-need basis to cover the Welcome Center desk. This involves answering the phones, receiving deliveries and other light office work responsibilities. We have a regular crew who include Tuesdays and Thursdays, but everyone needs to make adjustments on occasion. So we are looking for those who could step in last minute. Please contact Dawn Thurlo by calling the office or at dthurlo@2bcliberty.org. We are also looking for volunteers or paid employees who are willing to cover the custodial duties when our regular maintenance staff is not available. Once again, this would be temporary fill-in work, not a permanent position. If you have these skills and are interested, please contact Connie McNeill by calling the church office or at cmcneill@2bcliberty.org. 2BC SUMMER GOLF Final 2BC golf game is Monday, September 18, at Liberty Hills Golf Club. Tee time is 5:15 p.m. End of the season barbecue will be held at the Posey’s house on September 25, at 5:30 p.m. Their address is 11418 Missouri Route A in Liberty.

E-NEWSLETTER SIGN-UP Do you receive the e-newsletters that are published three times a week? If not, sign-up on our website at 2bcliberty.org. MEMBER ADDRESS CHANGE Irene Thomas Oxford Grand Room 310 8280 North Tullis Avenue Kansas City, Mo 64158 816-781-4606 PERSONNEL COMMITTEE Mike Lassiter has informed the Personnel Committee that he will retire on August 31, 2018. While not entirely unexpected—for all his vigor and youthful good looks, Mike has, in fact, reached retirement age—he will be difficult to replace. Upon his retirement, Mike will have served 2BC for 29 years, and his ministry has been both varied and deep. Mike's early announcement of his decision is another blessing to our church. It gives us time to celebrate properly his ministry next summer before he retires, and it affords us the opportunity to determine how to structure ministry responsibilities once he leaves. We will have plenty of time to celebrate Mike’s wellearned retirement, but we wanted the entire congregation to know about Mike’s plan now. STEPHEN MINISTRY We always need new people who can serve as Stephen Ministers! This may be your chance to become one— the Stephen Ministry training begins on Monday, October 3. For details about the schedule, questions, or more information, please contact Sara Langford langford@liberty.k12.mo.us, Carole Kingery ckingery@kc.rr.com, or call the church office

Second Sessions Session II September 27 – October 25 Bible study option: Deuteronomy led by Wil Mellone. “A lost treasure for large segments of the modern world, the book of Deuteronomy powerfully repays contemporary readers’ attention. It represents Scripture pulsing with immediacy, offering gripping discourses that yank readers out of the doldrums and back to Mount Horeb and an encounter with divine Word issuing forth from blazing fire.” (Reading Deuteronomy, A Literary and Theological Commentary, Stephen L. Cook: Smyth & Helwys). There is an intimacy with God found in Deuteronomy that stirs a deep longing for God and person-centered community. Wil is a lay student of the Old Testament and this book is among his favorites. Don’t miss his insights and bring your own! Room 304-305. Spiritual Growth option: Anonymous by Alicia Chole led by Jacque Stouffer. Remember this year’s Holy Week Lunch speaker? This is a study of her next book. Amazon describes this book as “We all experience times of hiddenness, when our potential is unseen and our abilities unapplauded. This book redeems those times by reminding us that though we often want to rush through these anonymous seasons of the soul, they hold enormous power to cultivate character traits that cannot be developed any other way!” Jacque is a returning Second Sessions leader by popular demand! Room 303. Spiritual and emotional health option: Boundaries in Marriage by Cloud & Townsend led by Brenda Burris Chouris. We continue the Boundaries series. “Two lives becoming one: that’s the marriage ideal. But maybe you’ve discovered that it’s easier said than done. That’s why boundaries—the ways we define and maintain our sense of individuality, freedom, and personal integrity—are so important. And it’s why the principles described in Boundaries in Marriage are essential if you want your marriage to flourish.” Brenda is a licensed counselor and has a practice out of her church in Kearney. She has a ministry and public education background which enhance what she brings to her care for others. Oak Room. Service option: Mike will line up some service needs of some in our congregation or their neighbors who need assistance with small tasks in their homes. Old Library.
