If you are a first-time guest, we invite you to complete a guest card from a pew pocket or the Friendship Register and drop it in the offering plate so that we may get acquainted with you. Also, text “Explore” to 816-355-4736. We would like to communicate with you via text and email with some brief informational messages over the next few weeks. Your information is private and will not be used for any other purpose than to keep you informed about 2BC.
Take a moment to prepare your heart for worship. The righteousness of God is not about persons receiving "what they’ve got coming" from God; rather God, as Luther puts it, "wraps a robe of righteousness around the pig-befouled body” of every prodigal. —Molly Marshall
Please see an usher if you’d like a listening aid. Each Sunday in the Welcome Center (just inside the Kansas Street entrance on Level 1), Our Hospitality Team is waiting to help you get connected. This may include finding a Bible study class, showing you where children and student ministries meet, or sharing the day’s activities and schedule. You may also enjoy a cup of coffee at the Welcome Center’s coffee bar and get to know others at Second. Children’s worship bags, filled with books and activities, are available at the Sanctuary entrances. If you’d like an alternative for your children, childcare for birth through Pre-K is available on Level 2 at any point in the service. Our Welcome Center is also available for those with restless infants, and you can view the service on a monitor there.
In addition to placing your offering in the offering plate, you can give online at 2bcliberty.org/give or via your smartphone by scanning this QR code. We have “online giving” cards in the pew rack that you can place in the offering plate to represent your gift if you choose.

“God of Grace”
CWM RHONDDA
God of grace and God of glory, on Thy people pour Thy power; Crown Thine ancient church’s story, bring her bud to glorious flower. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, For the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour. Choir: Lo the hosts of evil round us Scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways! From the fears that long have bound us, free our hearts to faith and praise. Grant us wisdom, Grant us courage, For the living of these days, for the living of these days. Cure Thy children’s waring madness; bend our pride to Thy control; Shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul. Grant us wisdom, Grant us courage, Lest we miss Thy kingdom’s goal, lest we miss Thy kingdom’s goal. Set our feet on lofty places; gird our lives that they may be Armored with all Christ-like graces In the fight to set men free. Grant us wisdom, Grant us courage, That we fail not man nor Thee, that we fail not man nor Thee.
Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore; Let the search for Thy salvation be our glory evermore. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, Serving Thee whom we adore, serving Thee whom we adore. +Offertory Prayer Offertory

November 2017 Monthly A NOTE FROM PASTOR JASON A Month of Thanksgiving At some point this month, we’ll all be invited to engage in a cycle of well-being and transformation. Most likely, this will be initiated by a loved one. They’ll gaze across a table full of smoked bird, cranberries, and sweet potato casserole, and invite the grazing community to lower their voices and pay attention. Then they’ll ask you the all-important question: “What are you thankful for?” Your answer could spark a revolution. Recent studies have shown that generosity and gratitude go hand in hand both at a psychological and neurobiological level. They are symbiotic. Together, small acts of generosity and gratitude kick-start a neurological feedback loop and an upward spiral of well-being. Simply put, speaking gratitude and sharing generously will enrich your life in tangible ways. Speaking gratitude and sharing generously will also enrich the lives of those around us. With that in mind, may our entrance into November bring us all deeper into the cycle of generosity and gratitude. We have so much for which to celebrate. Specifically: With Reformation Sunday fresh in our minds, we continue to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and all that has meant for our lives and this world. In what ways are you thankful for God’s ongoing work of reformation and renewal? November marks the midpoint in our current Catalyst ministry plan, so we’ll spend time offering words of gratitude for the impact your generosity has made through the ministries of our church. And, as we look toward the future, there is much more to come. Would you prayerfully consider offering a Thanksgiving gift this month to the ministries of our church? November 10-12 will be a weekend of celebration as we joyfully welcome the candidate our search committee is recommending as our next Associate Pastor of Worship and Music. I am thrilled by the work this committee has done and am so eager to experience what all their work, and what this candidate will mean for our future together. This weekend is so much more than question and answer sessions; it is an important step toward us realizing a more vibrant future in service to God and others. Will you plan to participate in the celebration? These are just a few prompting opportunities for you to practice generosity, gratitude, and celebration in the month ahead. How else might God bring well-being and transformation into our world through our generosity? How might your acts of generosity this month serve as catalysts for God’s dreams to come true here and around our world now and for years to come? May God show us all as we move through this month of Thanksgiving… With Gratitude,
Jason Edwards Senior Pastor

SECOND SESSIONS Session III November 1, 8, 29 and December 6 Bible Study option (Rm 304-05): 1 Corinthians with Phil Burright. This book is a careful look at Paul’s relationship to a complex church in a bustling crosssection of the world. The topics are varied but included marriage and sexuality, spiritual gifts and love, diversity and unity. The context of that culture is far removed from ours today. Or, is it? Our leader, Phil Burright, is one of our newer members, formerly a church leader at Tryst Falls Baptist Church. We are blessed that Phil and Beth have engaged their lives here.

Is this the one you’ve been waiting for in the boundaries series? “How healthy choices grow healthy children.” This session will include the why, the what, and the how of boundaries with kiddos.

Service option (Old Library): Mike Lassiter will again have some service opportunities for those who want to “do.” This could include helping some of our folks get some things done in their homes. Anyone need help with Christmas decorations—getting those boxes up or down? Please let Mike know. There are folks who want to help do these things more than anything else.

COMMUNITY
HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF Thanks for your thoughtfulness! Right after Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, and we heard about the devastation of many of their schools, our church family was asked to donate children’s books for teachers and school libraries who lost everything. I want you to know that nearly 400 books have been boxed up and are on their way to Houston! Second Friends had a wagon for
donations as well in The Welcome Center and you came through with some excellent literature for those classrooms. It will be like Christmas for some of those teachers who experienced the total loss of their personal libraries! Thank you for being the presence of Christ by giving. Shark Alert Thank you! A big “thank you” goes out to several generous 2BC members for their help with our most recent “Shark Alert.” Thanks to these folks a Schumacher family no longer has children sleeping on the floor but instead has a new twin bed, new bedding for the twin and full-size beds, and new pillows! Your donations are greatly appreciated! The countdown is on—it’s time to start preparing for the Christmas Store! Believe it or not, there are only six weeks until the store opens. We need your help to stock the store with this year’s coolest toys and gifts for kids. Look for the sign-up sheets in the Welcome Center and sign up today to purchase a gift (or two!) for this year’s store. (note: We are not using gift tags to sign up as we have in past years.) Halloween is this Tuesday—did you know that you can donate your leftover Halloween candy to the Christmas store? We need lots of candy to fill stockings for the hundreds of kids who will get gifts from the store. Just make sure it doesn’t say Halloween or have Halloween colors. You can drop your candy off in the Welcome Center. Just look for the boxes that say Christmas Store Candy.
