MEDITATION Take a moment to prepare your heart for worship… Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time. ― Laura Ingalls Wilder
Please see an usher if you’d like a listening aid.
GETTING CONNECTED AT 2BC Each Sunday in the Welcome Center (just inside the Kansas Street entrance on Level 1), our Hospitality Team is waiting to help you get connected. This may include finding a Bible study class, showing you where children and student ministries meet, or sharing the day’s activities and schedule. You may also enjoy a cup of coffee at the Welcome Center’s coffee bar and get to know others at Second.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more! ― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
Your Entire Family is Welcome! Children’s worship bags filled with books and activities are available at the Sanctuary entrances. If you’d like an alternative for your children, childcare for birth through Pre-K is available on Level 2 at any point in the service. Our Welcome Center is also available for those with restless infants, and you can view the service on a monitor there.

COMING UP AT 2BC... CHURCHWIDE SECOND SESSIONS Wednesday January 4|6:30-7:15 In November we made a significant commitment to Get Stronger by strengthening our global presence. How will we do that? One way is by developing a Thailand/Myanmar ministry network to minister to immigrants and refugees here and in southeast Asia. This January we are taking the next step in this new mission commitment by sending 5 of our members and 2 William Jewell students to Thailand. Jason Edwards, Mike Lassiter, Blane Baker, Bill Gossett, Jeff Buscher, Christian Wyatt and Daniel Bittel will travel to the Upland Holistic Development Project in Mai Ai, Thailand to build and strengthen relationships, explore future mission opportunities, and to demonstrate possible uses of both an aquaponics system and solar recharging stations. Sound interesting? Want to know more? We’ll kick off our 2017 Second Sessions with an opportunity to learn more about this important new ministry venture. Enlarging our global presence will transform lives—both in Thailand and here. See you January 4th, 5:45pm for (mild) Thai food and 6:30pm to learn about this ministry. COFFEE WITH THE PASTOR Sunday, Jan. 8 | 9:45 a.m. | Oak Room | Join Pastor Jason Edwards and a few members of 2BC for an informal coffee. Ask questions and chat about anything you want to know as you get familiar with the 2BC faith family. FOOD SHARE SUNDAY IS NEXT WEEK The first Sunday of every month is FOOD SHARE SUNDAY, when we support the Link Food Pantry of In As Much Ministry by donating items to stock their shelves. Collection bins will be inside each entrance. Needed items include: Canned beans/fruit, rice sides, sugar, cake/brownie mix, Jello/pudding, vegetable oil, tea, coffee, shampoo, paper towels, toilet paper, deodorant, lotion, soap, toothpaste/brushes, laundry/ dish soap.
EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY SPIRITUALITY SUNDAY CLASS Eight Sundays starting Jan. 15 | 2:30-4:30 p.m. | led by a team | If you found our fall emphasis on Emotionally Healthy Spirituality helpful, this is your opportunity to take your next step and go further in-depth on these concepts.
CONNECTIONS CLASS Sundays, Jan. 15-Feb. 12 | 9:45 a.m. | Connections is a five-week class led by Greg Duncan and designed for new members and those who are new to our congregation. Not only will you explore more about who 2BC is as a faith community and how you can best connect, but you’ll be able to examine your own giftedness and perhaps discover new opportunities for personal growth and ministry here at Second Baptist. To sign up, contact the church office at 816-781-2824. SENIOR ADULTS EPIPHANY LUNCH Friday Jan. 6 at 11:30 a.m. Epiphany Lunch in the Social Room. I thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along th’unbroken song Of peace on earth good will to all. And in despair I bowed my head; “There is no peace on earth,” I said, “For hate is strong, and mocks the song Of peace on earth good will to all” Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: “God is not dead nor doth he sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, With peace on earth good will to all.”
