work day at the annex

(The former Meyer Building) Saturday, April 12 8:00–10:00 a.m. The purchase of the building is complete, the former tenants have moved out, all of the metal and used oil have been removed, and the building is safe for us to repurpose. Now we need to remove all the trash from inside and outside the building and prepare it for our storage needs. Please consider giving us a few hours before the rest of your Saturday activities. A roll-off dumpster will be onsite.

renovation update You may have noticed some activity on the fifth floor around the dead space between the Music Suite and handbell room. Construction is under way to convert this space to some much-needed storage for the church. Brad Rolf Construction has been working to demo and remove material surrounding an old skylight that was in the Assembly Room many years ago. Next week they will begin installing a floor and shelves that will make the space usable. Thanks to your generosity toward our Catalyst plan, this and some other updates to the sixth floor will be forthcoming.

LENTEN EVENTS Lenten Lunch

EASTER LILIES ON SALE

Wednesday, April 16 12:00 p.m. Social Room

Orders for Easter lilies in memory or in honor of loved ones or friends are being accepted through Sunday, April 13, at a cost of $15 per plant.

Our Lenten Lunch is a yearly tradition on the Wednesday of Holy Week. It is a time during the middle of the day to step back from the typical business to reflect on the Passion of Christ.

The lilies will be placed in the Sanctuary for worship on Easter Sunday. Lilies can be taken home immediately following worship on Easter, April 20.

A simple lunch of soup and salad ($5.00 donation suggested) begins at noon and is followed by special music and a message from our special guest: Carmen Lile-Henley, Chaplain at Liberty Hospital.

Order your lilies online at 2bcliberty.org/lilies or pick up an order form at the Welcome Desk.

Make reservations today at 2bcliberty.org/holyweek or by contacting the church office at 781.2824.

Order deadline is Sunday, April 13.

College Care Packages

Thursday, April 17 7:30 p.m. Communion and Drama 2BC Sanctuary

It’s that time of year again – College Finals Week is fast approaching. We want to send care packages to our 2BC college students, and we need your help.

For more information, call the church office at 781-2824.

Our Maundy Thursday service will help us reflect on the Last Supper in the Upper Room that Jesus shared with his disciples.

This spring we are going to approach the packages a bit differently. We are requesting your help in buying the items listed and bringing them to the church by Wednesday, April 16. You can find the list at: 2bcliberty.org/collegecarepacakages

The Scriptures, hymns, anthems, and drama will lead us to the Lord’s Table, that pivotal point between the celebration of the triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the tragedy of the Crucifixion the next day.

The College Ministry Team will pack and label all the boxes and mail/deliver them in time for the students’ finals crunch week!

Join us for a drama written by Jill McRorey and and Susan Miller titled Sacrament, followed by communion.

Visit our website and let us know what you’ll provide or stop by and sign-up in the Welcome Center. It’s a great ministry, and we hope you’ll help us send a little love to our college students. 2

meet tony McBroom: Student Ministry intern

May 8 6:00–9:00 p.m. Unity Village

I grew up right here in Liberty off the Square, as well as in Jefferson City. I grew up very blessed to have parents who helped me know Jesus when I was young, and were able to pour into me and teach me the way I should go! I started getting very involved with Pleasant Valley Baptist Church at a very young age, and accepted Christ when I was 8. I decided to rededicate my life when I was 15 when I had a better understanding of what it meant to be a Christian. I started getting involved with music at 10, and chose guitar as my main instrument, along with singing, because it was what I loved doing! Worship through song has become my passion and how I connect very strongly with the Lord.

An Invitation to Second Baptist Church from Ed Chasteen, 2BC Ambassador to Other Faith Groups Second Baptist member Ed Chasteen, founder of Hatebusters, is a longtime supporter of the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council, a not-forprofit organization striving to break the barriers between faiths and religious traditions by creating a community based on cultural knowledge, respect, appreciation and trust. Each year the Council sponsors The Table of Faiths. This year The Table of Faiths is May 8 at Unity Village from 6:00-–9:00 p.m. and provides an opportunity to indulge our senses amid the beautiful surroundings in the gardens, to enjoy mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres, delicious desserts and refreshing beverages while feeding our spirit in rich, uplifting, inspiring and diverse dialogue with other guests centered around the theme “The Uncommon Response: Inspiring the Sacred in All Things” Ed has provided an opportunity for up to 50 people from Second Baptist Church to participate; we will be taking a 2BC vehicle, leaving from the parking lot at 5:00 p.m. If you are interested in attending, contact the church office at 781-2824 or email Maggie Henderson at mhenderson@2bcliberty.org by April 28. Childcare is available at Second, but we must have your child’s reservation by Monday, April 28. Please call Gwen at 781-2824.

I am interested in helping with student ministry because it was leaders in my teenage years who loved on me and helped me discover how much the Lord loves me. Those leaders helped set the standards and greatly helped me in times of need. Since about ninth grade, I have felt a passion for youth and have really wanted to find out and discern if this is something God has called me to do parttime or vocationally. That is why I have been doing youth internship work for about two years now. I enjoy every minute of my time with our 2BC youth. I am able to be myself, act silly, and really have the opportunity to live life with them and just be along for the ride, helping in any way I can. I am so excited to get to know them each on a deeper level and be able to be a part of their life in the best way possible. I am super stoked to be a part of this youth ministry, and to keep discerning and figuring out God’s plan for me and how I can best serve him and this ministry. Lasty, I have really enjoyed how welcoming, encouraging, and loving the Second Baptist community has been to me in my first month here. From the get go, I have been warmly welcomed, and the parents have been super supportive and helpful. Thank you all so much for inviting me in and being such great supporters as I have started attending here! I am looking forward to getting to know everyone! – Tony
