SECOND BAPTIST CHURCH
WEEKLY EditioN Sunday, May 3 We will celebrate our missions partnership with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship in special services May 3. Our Guest Speaker Kasey Jones is the 24th CBF moderator and the second African-American to serve in that position. Growing up in a small town in California, Jones was not exposed to female role models in ministry. By age 7, she and her siblings were involved in door-todoor evangelism, ministry to the sick and other areas of church work, but she never considered serving in the church as a minister. After more than 15 years as a community organizer and advocate, she earned her master of divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary. She is both the first woman and the first African-American to be pastor of National Baptist Memorial Church, established in 1905 in the Washington D.C. area.

A free churchwide lunch will follow the 11 a.m. service, prepared by our sister Haitian Church in Kansas City. A fun Q and A with Reverend Jones will follow. Reservations appreciated by April 26. Contact Maggie Henderson in the church office at mhenderson@2bcliberty.org or 781-2824. What is the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship? CBF is a fellowship of Baptist Christians and churches who share a passion for the Great Commission and a commitment to Baptist principles of faith and practice. Church Office News
Note from our Personnel Committee
Linda Jones, our Church Administrator, started her sabbatical last week. Due to her husband Larry’s recent health challenges her sabbatical plans have altered. Linda still plans to complete her Church Administrator certification process, but some originally planned travel will be postponed. Please join us in prayer for Larry’s quick, complete recovery. In preparation for her sabbatical Linda did a great job of delegating her responsibilities to a team of co-workers and volunteers. During Linda’s absence Connie McNeill will be serving as the interim Church Administrator and will fulfill Linda’s leadership role until her return. We are so fortunate to have Connie on staff, due to her extensive management and administrative experience. Connie will continue to fill her ministerial role as well. Please direct any communication normally intended for Linda to Connie during the interim. Connie's email is cmcneill@2bcliberty.org.

I’m bringing folks from five churches to Table of Faiths on Tuesday, April 21, as the first step in a larger purpose I have. I want to pair up folks of different faiths to have seven conversations over a seven week period using the seven sets of questions I will provide. Then each person will write the biography of the other from what they have learned. When all is done, we will hold a Human Family Reunion and each person will be inducted into The Order of World Class Persons. ...
