Welcome Guests If you are a first-time guest, please complete a guest card from a pew pocket or Friendship Register and drop it in the offering plate so that we may acknowledge your visit and get acquainted with you. We are glad you have joined us for worship today. ________________________ Meditations Sabbath requires surrender. If we only stop when we are finished with all of our work, we will never stop—because our work is never completely done. With every accomplishment there arises a new responsibility. Every swept floor invites another sweeping, every child bathed invites another bathing. When all life moves in such cycles, what is ever finished? If we refuse to rest until we are finished, we will never rest until we die. Sabbath dissolves the urgency of our days, because it liberates us from the need to be finished. –Wayne Muller, Sabbath The command is “Do no work.” Just make space. Attend to what is around you. Learn that you don’t have to DO to BE. accept the grace of doing nothing. Stay with it until you stop jerking and squirming. – Dallas Willard, The Great Omission: Reclaiming Jesus’s Essential Teachings on Discipleship Rabbi Levi saw a man running in the street and asked him, “Why do you run?” He replied, “I am running after my good fortune!” Rabbi Levi tells him, “Silly man, your good fortune has been trying to chase you, but you are running too fast.” –Traditional Tale _________________________________ Note: + Indicates stand if you are able. | Please see an usher for a listening aid. Leader: The Good News of Our Lord. People: Praise be to our Lord, Jesus Christ. Extinguishing the Lenten Candle Unison Confession Almighty God, you despise nothing you have made, and you forgive the sins of all who are penitent. Create in us new and contrite hearts, that, truly repenting of our sins and acknowledging our brokenness, we may obtain from you, the God of all mercy, full pardon and forgiveness, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
