Parentsare trainedasmentors andvolunteerin aclassroomfour timesaweekfor aminimumof100hourspersemester. ParentMentorsprovidedirectsupportto studentstoimprovetheirmathandliteracyskillsandtoprovideadditionalsocial emotionalsupport.TheParentMentors alsohaveweeklytrainingonfinancialliteracy,computerskills,leadership,andmore. Theyhelptofilltheequitygapbyvolunteeringinschoolsandcreatingpositive changethroughparentengagement.
TheprogramhasEnglishandSpanish-speakingmentorswiththegoaltoserve morethan600studentsthisschoolyearin fiveWaukeganelementaryschools,includingCarman-Buckner,GlenFlora,Glenwood,NorthandLyonMagnet.
