Seasons Hotel Dubai. I was impressed with the hotel from the moment I walked into it, until the moment I walked out. Staff members were always on-hand to help me with anything I needed, especially when in urgent need of a taxi or directions. My spacious room was the highlight of my stay. With its chic and minimalistic décor, and an extremely comfortable bed, I felt right at home and I really looked forward to returning to it after each day of business meetings. I must say, I was especially pleased that the hotel was in close proximity to the City Centre Deira mall, as it allowed me to get some last minute shopping done before my flight home without having to venture all the way to The Dubai Mall. The last thing that has to be mentioned is the fantastic breakfast at City Seasons Hotel Dubai. I always made sure I gave myself enough time in the mornings to really make the most of the delicious spread. TTG staff and correspondents assess services used by them. INTERVIEW General manager, Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD), HE Faisal Al Nuaimi exclusively speaks to Natalie Hami about the many game-changing developments that have been implemented to boost tourism within culture-fuelled Ajman.
EXPERT APPROACH TTG: Please share a bit about ATDD’s mission and any ground-breaking developments. Since its inception the aim of ATDD has been to highlight the emirate of Ajman as a unique destination in the UAE. Our vision is to increase the tourism sector’s contribution to the emirate’s GDP and overall visitor numbers. This year the department has developed and implemented strategic plans to promote tourism locally, regionally and internationally through participation in travel exhibitions, roadshows and international promotion campaigns that target our key markets. We rebranded our logo to reflect a more vibrant Ajman and created a slogan, ‘Sincerely Emirati’, that was built around the warmth of the people of Ajman. The brand positioning is based on Ajman’s three attributes – supportive, sincere and spirited. Here, we celebrate life together. Guests are warmly welcomed and sincere generosity is evident throughout everyday life. It is the genuine welcoming nature of our people that gives Ajman a true sense of place. We launched the brand identity in Berlin in March and to our clients and partners in the Middle East in May during the Arabian Travel Market, as well as at the World Travel Market London in November. The new brand is about enhancing Ajman’s position as a tourism and investment destination. Its strategy is to take advantage of Ajman’s offerings, such as the quality driven hospitality, free zone and port, to perfectly align with the vision of Ajman 2021 – which is to make Ajman a happy society, create a green economy, distinguish the Government and align with the Spirit of the Union. One of our goals in having a new destination brand is to attract investors into Ajman because we have different facilities that can support their business, and we are glad that it was received well by the majority of the industry’s stakeholders. A new website dedicated to Ajman as a tourism destination was also launched where travellers, investors and even residents can navigate and discover the many attractions, accommodations, activities and facilities present in the emirate. The aim of the website is to put Ajman on the map as a key destination in the UAE and in the region, and promote it as a tourism and investment destination to support the government of Ajman’s Vision 2021. As part of the UAE’s seven emirates, Ajman complements the other emirates as one destination. All efforts to promote the emirate are geared toward attracting visitors to the UAE as a whole because each emirate is unique and a must-visit for all travellers.
TTG: Tell our readers about the launch of the two classification programmes for desert camps and tourism villages. ATDD launched two classification programmes for desert camps and tourism villages a first for the UAE. Desert camps are divided into two types, which are day use and overnight, but they will fall under one category. Tourism villages will have different categories of fivestar, four-star and three-star based on the facilities and services that they will offer to tourists and residents. The new classification criteria are in line with Ajman’s Vision 2021 to promote the emirate’s growing tourism industry and offer a diverse range of attractions for both tourists and residents who are visiting the emirate.
TTG: What are some of the not-to-be-missed attractions and experiences to be had in Ajman? Attracting international visitors is of paramount importance to ATDD. We can promise our guests not only world-class hotels and attractions, but also impeccable service and hospitality for the duration of their visit.
The new brand is about enhancing Ajman’s position as a tourism and investment destination. 8 December 2016
Guests can explore the stunning, world-class course at Al Zorah Golf Club – a must visit in Ajman, and one of the most important tourism landmarks, Ajman Museum, which houses the most valuable artefacts and depicts the industry, traditional trading and the social life back then. It is an ideal place for the new generation to learn about their antecedents’ history, how they lived, their life pattern and what kind of difficulties they faced to secure life needs. Also not to be missed is the annual Liwa Ajman Date Festival where hundreds of farmers showcase the best and finest types of locally produced dates. ttgmena.com

According to resort manager, Salinda Resort Phu Quoc Island, Jeevan Thomas, in the past the issue of sustainable development was ignored or understated by many tourism businesses in Vietnam. “In recent years, I have seen some good signs of changing this mind set from several investors, however, there is still a
