Everything you would like to know about
HELISKI — but there was no one to ask SKIUSA reveals the mysteries of this challenging and exciting modality
WHAT IS HELISKI? It is an off-track modality that allows you to carve completely intact areas, not accessible by lifts, in an unusual and safe way: on board a helicopter.
BUT DO I HAVE TO JUMP OUT OF A HELICOPTER? Absolutely not. Jumping from a helicopter is not only dangerous, nor is it allowed! After landing, the guide provides the necessary support so that everyone disembarks safely.
ARE THERE SEVERAL LEVELS OF HELISKI? Sure. If you want to try the magnificent powder snow, but you’re unsure about your readiness, there’s no problem! We will take you to special areas to improve your skills.
10
WHAT IS A CMH LODGE? CMH is the acronym for Canadian Mountain Holidays, which brings together 12 lodges spread throughout British Columbia, Canada, in different ski areas, with powder snow and incredible descents. The lodges are wonderful, each with a different feature. At the Valemount Lodge, for example, the experience is even more special: situated in a valley, with excellent ski conditions, it hosts only 10 people at a time.
I HEARD THAT EVERYONE IS FED VERY WELL. IS IT TRUE? Yes! In the CMH lodges, the passion for powder snow is as great as for gastronomy. The dinners are served in stages, harmonized with delicious wines. Every meal is an opportunity to celebrate - good food, good company and good stories about the mountain.
DO YOU NEED TO HAVE ADVANCED LEVEL KNOWLEDGE? Not that much. From the intermediary level, if you dominate skiing on any type of terrain and feel comfortable in the most diverse snow conditions, you can do it!
CAN CHILDREN GO? Yes. The minimum age is 12 years, and for Powder Intro, 14. They must ski accompanied by parents or guardians, and two guides.

TRUE IMERSIONS OF SKI Accommodation for each style of practitioner seeking uncharted snow
Specialized in receiving skiers eager to train on snows that have never been trodden on before, the CMH lodges extend to remote areas of British Columbia, amid an incredible amount of powder snow and varied terrain. Accommodation in the lodges can last three, five or seven days, with daily helicopter departures - each time heading for a new peak, of course. In addition to the unforgettable descents, meals which are taken in the properties tend to be exceedingly great. In addition, the facilities of the lodges allow moments of relaxation in alternatives such as massages and spa treatments, whirlpool baths and drinks in front of the fireplace. It is a real immersion for sports lovers.

THEN THERE’S THE SKIING.
With about 280 inches (711 cm) of snowfall each year, over 2,000 acres of legendary terrain, and unparalleled scenery, its unspoiled character is truly a skier’s paradise. And there’s seemingly endless trails to choose from. The resort’s expansive lift network offers 19 lifts to a variety of terrain for beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers.
Beginners can start on the gentle slopes Ute Park and The Meadows, then enjoy the smooth 4-mile run of the Galloping Goose—all of which are perfect for enjoying the breathtaking scenery of the San Juans Mountain, home to more 13,000 and 14,000 foot peaks than anywhere else in North America. With a newly installed 320-foot covered magic carpet and a new Terrain Based Learning™ program, along with a renowned ski school made up of world-class ski instructors, newcomers to the sport get the freedom to enjoy learning without ever feeling crowded or pressured.
The resort’s most popular run, The See Forever trail, as well as Prospect Bowl are ideal for the intermediate skiers. While Telluride is world-renowned for its expert and extreme terrain, some of the most legendary in the world, such as The Plunge, KANT-MAK-M, Revelation Bowl, Black Iron Basin and Gold Hill Chutes.
Additionally, Telluride made headlines this year on its new alliance with the Epic Pass™—an international ski pass that gives access to 64 ski resorts across the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria. Full Epic Pass, Epic 7 Day and Epic 4 Day passholders
16
now receive up to seven days of skiing at Telluride with no blackout dates or restrictions.
After an exhilarating day on the slopes, guests have dining options from Telluride’s array of signature on-mountain restaurants like Alpino Vino and Bon Vivant, or the New Sheridan Chop House and 221 Oak Street down in the Town of Telluride, where celebrated chefs and wine sommeliers meticulously pair their delicacies with internationally-curated wines.
Transportation to Telluride gets easier each season, with new and expanded air service added every year. Travelers can conveniently fly nonstop from Los Angeles International (LAX) and San Francisco International (SFO) to Montrose-Telluride Regional Airport (MTJ). Other options include air service from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) or Houston (IAH) into Montrose-MTJ.
There is one choice you won’t have to make: you won’t need to rent a car when you’re in Telluride, thanks to their iconic, one-of-a-kind free pedestrian gondola that travels from the Town of Telluride to the resort.
“Telluride is truly unlike any other ski resort that you’ve ever discovered,” said Bill Jensen, Partner and CEO of Telluride Ski Resort. “From the lack of crowds and lift lines to the unique experiences we offer, combined with the surrounding beauty of the San Juans, it’s easy to feel like this is your own personalized resort. That, to me, is what Telluride is all about: it’s a getaway that’s impossible to forget.”
And as frequent visitors often say: you’ll never forget your first time in Telluride.

The new sensations of
Park City Famous for the largest ski area in the Americas, for the charming Main Street and the excellent restaurants,
the resort welcomes the 2018/19 season with many novelties.
Park City impresses even the most demanding. The city is enchanting for its old buildings with colorful facades, art galleries, excellent restaurants, and the charming main street, where the Sundance Festival is held. Located in Utah, it has undergone great transformations over time. In the nineteenth century it went through the boom of silver mining in the United States, which caused rapid growth. In 1963, Park City began operating the Treasure Mountain Resort, which made it one of the most important ski destinations in the country, only 35 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport. Park City Mountain Resort, which has the largest ski area in the United States, and Deer Valley Resort, famous for first-class service to skiers, are the two ski resorts of this destination. Even after so many transformations, the city continues to innovate. The 2018/19 season promises new attractions for those looking for adventure and fun in the snow.
19
STRONG EMOTIONS The novelty for those who love adrenaline is the zip-line tour of the Utah Olympic Park. There are seven stops at almost 50 meters high. The bravest will cross an area of spectacular views at a speed of more than 60 kilometers per hour.
GASTRONOMY The Park City Mountain Resort complex, which has ski and snowboard slopes for all levels, will have new restaurants, with an incredible view of the Wasatch Range. Another great novelty are the candy cabs, perfect for visitors to enjoy during one descent and another.

Ski Butlers:
practical and convenient
Most of the skiers and snowboarders have already gone through the situation of renting equipment in a store or at the resort itself and they know that it does pose some challenges. For families with children, the process of renting skis in a store in the city down to the slopes can be uncomfortable if not awkward. The rental shops closer to the slopes, on the other hand, also gives drawbacks: the long lines, which take precious time for those who want to ski early and take advantage of the mountain.
Born in New Hampshire and raised within a family of skiers, Bryn Carey noted that there was an opportunity to create a different equipment rental experience. It was in this way that he found inspiration to establish Ski Butlers in 2004. Since then Ski Butlers has already expanded to 37 resorts in the United States and 10 in Europe.
After 14 years of market exploration, something that Ski Butlers has learned is that the customer experience is of extreme importance. That’s why it offers more time in the snow, more time
with family and vacations with greater freedom, without rigidity of policies or schedules. Ski Butler goes further, driven by its mission to make ski vacations more convenient. If a client has a problem with a computer, is uncomfortable or simply wants to try other options, Ski Butlers sends a team to assist you where preferable: on the slopes or in the accommodations of the resort.
Despite the fact that the company takes pride in solving problems, on the other hand it prefers to prevent them. Each time a customer utilizes the service, the Ski Butlers team goes to where the guest is with boots of various sizes, skis, helmets, goggles and anything else they may need, ensuring comfort and convenience without demanding that they leave the comfort of their living room.

Aspen Mountain 48
It was here that Aspen’s history began nearly 80 years ago, when one of Colorado’s most famous and beloved resorts rose and, along with it, a slew of award-winning hotels, restaurants, shops and cafes. At 11,212 ft above sea level, the iconic Ajax, as it is also known, is a mountain that arouses the interest of the more experienced skiers. Its terrain has challenging and steeper descents with intermediate and advanced runways. In all, they add up to 76, in addition to the eight lifts, including the Silver Queen Gondola. From here, it is also very easy to get to the surrounding mountains, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass, approximately 15 minutes from each other, which are connected by an efficient system of skier shuttles, therefore helping the circulation through the region while ensuring a practical and easy ride.

Buttermilk The beauty of Buttermilk is in its two personalities. On the one hand, it is a very sought after mountain for beginners, with long runs very little inclinations and beautiful views of Pyramid Peak. On the other, it is paradise for snowboarders and freestyle skiers, the so-called free-riders. It’s no surprise why fans have watched the X Games Winter around the tracks and the so-called SuperPipe, the main seven-foot ramp, for over ten years. There are also two terrain parks and more than 100 attractions for those who want to practice their maneuvers and tricks. But the mountain is also a must-see for families and the little ones, who have fun at The Hideout, a fun-filled recreation complex for kids up to twelve!

Aspen
Highlands Known for having a back bowl with one of the most challenging backcountry terrain in all of North America, Aspen Highlands is the darling mountain of locals, just five minutes from downtown. Although composed of more than 80% intermediate and advanced descents, it also allows children and beginners to take their first steps in the snow guided by school teachers. This mountain avoids the spotlight, which means there are 118 large, tranquil uncrowded runs scattered over 1040 acres of skiable terrain. Hiking the ridge to Highland Bowl is also recommended for one the best rides of your life. Aspen Highlands is also home to the most popular restaurant of all mountains, Cloud 9. With direct access from the slopes, it has a kitchen focused on European specialties such as fondues and raclettes. During the day, music is played and skiers dance around the tables with breathtaking views of the Maroon Bells peaks!

DINNER WITH A TWIST Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro hosts special dinners during the season! To get there you must leave the base of the mountain aboard a snowcat which you’ll have to book in advance! CLIMBING BACK BOWL “Conquer your descents,” this is the philosophy of skiers who, in addition to using the lift, climb to the top of the Highlands back bowl with their ski or snowboard boots, carrying their equipment. The program is a local passion and is guaranteed worth the effort because the descent is a lifetime experience. The hike can last from 25 minutes to an hour, and of course, the views are part of the reward. INCREDIBLE VIEWS Two mountains and Maroon Lake create one of the most beautiful and photographed scenery in the world, the Maroon Bells.

Breckenridge With its Wild West vibes, the bustling city of Colorado is home to five incredible skiing mountains. Breckenridge has undergone some extensive changes over the past couple of years, including the opening of a new mountain, Peak 6, with over 420 skiable acres. The resort went on to add a total of five mountains and over 2400 acres to practice this glorious sport. Generally ski resorts are created in more distant locations, but Breckenridge wanted to change the norm. Long before the first skiers ventured here, the region was already alive and thriving. Today, the city is still vibrant with its center and shopping tenders that preserve the Victorian style erected at the time of its foundation. Breckenridge is home to just over 3,000 people, as well as great hotels, shops, restaurants and bars to continue the festivities through the night.

Winter Park The first ski resort in Colorado is super proud of its powder snow abundance! Winter Park has the benefit of being Colorado’s longest operating ski resort, which means they know their game. The park’s seven territories are spread across 3,081 acres of groomers, black diamonds, panoramic bowls, off-the-beaten path powder stashes and world-famous bumps. With a typical annual snowfall of 320 inches, perpetual sunshine, a convenient location (67 miles northwest of Denver), awardwinning restaurants and nanobreweries and more activities for kids than seems possible, this is pretty much the skiers golden ticket. During every Christmas Eve, the resort hosts a torchlight ski-down, where about 100 skiers/snowboarders traverse down the main run into the base, brandishing torches and followed up with a visit from Santa and a sky filled with fireworks.

Steamboat Country atmosphere and impeccable snow in one of the oldest and most well-equipped Colorado ski resorts
Known as “Cowboys Mountain”, the ski resort on the outskirts of Steamboat Springs, a town of about 12,000 residents, just 170 miles from Denver, exhibits an Old West lifestyle. Here the hat is even present on the slopes - about 40 years ago Steamboat was home to a fun skiing competition among American cowboys. Famous for the quality of its snow, called Champagne Powder, the ski resort is one of the best destinations in the Northern Hemisphere also for cross-country skiing, practiced on forest trails. Founded in the 1990s under the influence of European foreigners, Steamboat is one of Colorado’s oldest snow resorts, but is also one of the most modern. In recent years, about $30 million has been invested in a program to renovate local structures, and what was good became even better. Tired of skiing? Here the list of activities to pass the time can vary from balloon flights to snowmobile tours.

Mammoth The sweetheart ski resort among Californians, Mammoth is also known for its
powder snow and for holding one of the longest ski seasons in the Unite States
Set within the Sierra Nevada mountains at an altitude of 8,000 feet, Mammoth has long been a favorite among Californians for its long season, even in years with little snowfall. This year, the mountain plans to stay open all the way through August. What? Yes! Which means you can catch freshies in the morning and waves in Malibu in the afternoon or head north for a quaff of that Napa wine. The mountain itself boasts 3,500 acres of skiable terrain including parks, cross country and off-piste. California’s obsession with food and wine mean incredible dining options and this close to Hollywood, you know there’s going to be some sick shopping. Powder + sunshine + Cali vibes = an epic ski vacation. It is also the only resort in North America to offer three different sized half-pipes and, an extended winter season means maybe this year you’ll get to try summer skiing… if that’s not a thing, it is now.

Squaw Valley With a perfect mix of ski runs from beginners to experts, this ski resort is always a success! With 6,000 acres of skiable terrain, Squaw has an excellent mix of easy runs, unmarked trails, challenging bowls and intense steeps, and as the trademarked Spring Skiing Capital, you can enjoy all these options well past winter. In addition to hosting the 1960 Olympics, Squaw holds the reputation for being the birthplace of American extreme skiing ever since Scott Schmidt jumped several 100+ foot cliffs in the early 1980’s. So whether you’re looking for thrills or prefer to kick it in a hot tub with your goggles and sunscreen, Squaw has no shortage of California steeze (that’s stylin’ easy for all you looking to hone your native slang). Visiting The Spring Skiing Capital means packing a little differently than your typical winter ski trip: sure you’ll want to throw in a jacket and some gloves, but don’t forget those short sleeves, a pair of Ray Bans, some solid SPF and a chillaxed attitude.

Jackson Hole Two mountains and a real paradise for advanced skiers.
Nestled among national parks in the state of Wyoming, Jackson Hole is surrounded by natural beauties such as the famous Yellowstone Reservation and Grand Teton Park. The scenery is spectacular, with canyons, valleys, peaks covered with white and an abundant fauna along the slopes and plains. Its ski slopes are favored and visited by the most experienced athletes, even taking the title for having the largest vertical slope in the United States. It is also here where one of the most challenging areas in the world resides, Corbet’s Couloir. Off the tracks, there are two Old West-backed towns that support skiers: Town of Jackson, and 20 miles away, Teton Village. Both are filled with good restaurants, bars and art galleries.

Megève Although this resort is usually considered of low profile, its medieval village is actually one of the most elegant ski resorts in Europe.
The mountains of the Haute Savoie region are among the most scenic of the Alps. With every turn, you can see the majestic 16,000 foot Mont Blanc. Megève is part of the Domaine Evasion Mont-Blanc, along with five other resorts, and offers access to 276 miles of runs for all levels of skiers. The village is also beautiful and full of charm. Its narrow streets are filled with medieval buildings, shops, cafés and delicatessens. The postcard of the city, for example, is the church of St. Jean Baptiste tracing back to the 12th century. For many reasons, Megève became a meeting point for the international jet setter to enjoy a low profiled atmosphere.

Val D’Isere can be very intriguing for its magnificent landscapes and tender snow, but it’s great triumph is in its charming village. Wooden cottages, a historical church built in the Baroque period, wine cellars, bars and shops at Olympique Avenue - reminiscent of the Champs Elysees - is just some of what the village offers after a day on the slopes. Another highlight is the local passion for sport. Together with Tignes, Val d’Isère forms the ski area of Espace Killy, which offers more than 180 miles of quality tracks, tested and approved by numerous professional athletes, including JeanClaude Killy, the Olympic medalist who started his skiing journey at the resort. In the northeastern Italian extreme, almost on the border with Austria, Alta Badia is a true blend of the Italian dolce vita with a mix of South Tyrol. Its location is exceptional - situated in the region of the Dolomites mountain range, a World Natural Heritage site named by Unesco.
