Project Recap: Day Outs Day outs are Tugon’s initiatives to provide our babies and girls with a special day wherein we give them the opportunity to explore different places outside of their institution home. On the 31st of October, we brought the babies of Concordia to Manila Ocean Park in the hopes of introducing them to a new environment outside of their playroom. Many of the babies were scared at first and took some time to warm up to the area goers and having so many strangers around them but by the end of it, it was clear that everyone was enjoying themselves and that Manila Ocean Park was the right place to bring the babies. It’s amazing to witness a child’s face light up from seeing sea creatures for the first time or screaming in delight from getting to encounter them up close.
Despite the possibility that the babies won't even remember the day out after 5 or 10 years, the group was glad that the babies at least enjoyed themselves for a day. It meant so much for Lola Nerie and the rest of Concordia. This was also a great bonding experience for everyone involved and by the end of it, despite running around the whole day and all difficulties faced, the day out was a success and just to be able to see our babies smile and be happy made everything worthwhile. Tugon would like to thank Manila Ocean Park and Raph Clemente for accommodating Concordia and the area goers.
Advocacy Section 4 Months Awareness Campaign: Be the Change
Do you remember our RecWeek promos that had the tagline Be the Change? It was part of a month-long campaign about how we can change our views towards those that were abused and abandoned at young ages. Given this new perspective, we can help these children change the situation they are in. The Be the Change month served as a stepping stone towards the next months in the Four Months Campaign. One of the ways people can be a part of the advocacy is by changing the way they perceive difficult realities Promo by Ninna Lebrilla and Andee Torres
and their actions towards them. Currently we live in a world wherein the culture is somewhat tolerant of abuse. By changing the way we think speak or act, then the culture that tolerates abuse will eventually be eradicated. Changing a culture starts from within and the rest follows.
4 Months Awareness Campaign: Love One, Love All According to the project head, Lois Estanislao, the project wasn't a very big one. It did not have a goal of raising funds like other projects. For this reason, the Love One, Love All campaign is so unique. It was done to purely promote self-love before helping others. The campaign started off with the team passing on roses around campus. Each rose had a short story about survivors of child abuse and abandonment and a message about whom you can
pass the rose on to. The next week, the team went around campus dressed up as different animals and cartoons and gave people Free Hugs. It really relieved everyone from the stress they were feeling from hell week! The Advocacy Department also released a video on Self-Love to remind everyone that even if we are constantly showing our love for others, we should never forget to love ourselves. Truly, love is important in our lives, but most especially in our relationships with the girls and babies. It is good to remember that small, kind acts can have a big impact on those around us.
