Anything can Happen Feeling That
Tulsa might be known as boomtown for its origins as an oil city, but today it’s booming with a new kind of prosperity. Every region and neighborhood of Tulsa offers something unique for visitors and residents alike, which is why we compile this City Guide every year at TulsaPeople. From festivals that come annually to the arts, sports and staples in between, there’s always something to do in Tulsa.
For those of us putting it together, City Guide is an exciting time to reflect on all the ways the city has changed in just 365 days. It’s my hope that with this issue in hand, Tulsans will celebrate all Tulsa has to offer and support the local businesses, organizations and individuals making our city a destination.
Happy reading!

Parks
The City of Tulsa has 135 parks and six community centers for ample recreation opportunities. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, children can cool off in one of the many swimming pools, free splash pads and water playgrounds scattered throughout the city.
Find a city park near you using the City of Tulsa’s Parks Finder at maps. cityoftulsa.org/parksfinder.
Walkers, runners and cyclists will find plenty of trails and paved paths throughout Tulsa RiverParks: 800 acres of land stretching along the Arkansas River. Visit riverparks.org for a map of trails.
Climb Tulsa
Located just off the Broken Arrow Expressway at South Yale Avenue, the hardto-miss Climb Tulsa facility is among the largest climbing gyms in the nation.
It offers 17,000 square feet in which to train or climb for fun and is accommodating to all ages, founder Jason Burks says. For younger climbers, the gym has a separate, less difficult climbing area and hosts various kids’ camps that teach climbing skills.
An avid climber himself, Burks had seen massive climbing gyms in various cities across the country. He decided Tulsa needed something similar. “You’re not going to find a city the size of Tulsa with a gym this cool,” he says.

Since 2003, Oklahoma Aquarium, 300 Aquarium Drive, has been teaching visitors about the aquatic world. Visitors can experience Sea Turtle Island or the Polynesian Reef, walk through the shark tunnel, which houses the world’s largest collection of bull sharks, as well as visit faroff locales like the Amazon. Check the website to help plan your visit around the animal feed schedule or the stingray and shark touch tank schedule. Numerous special events fill the calendar — like ZZZs in the Seas public sleepover or the ever-popular HallowMarine.

OWASSO
A booming suburb with plenty to see and do any day of the week.
Owasso seems to be a golfer’s paradise as numerous clubs and greens are available. Bailey Ranch Golf Club and Owasso Golf and Athletic Club are popular public options. The Patriot Golf Club is a private course that opened in 2010.
SAND SPRINGS
Owasso’s downtown is known as the Redbud District. Centered around Redbud Festival Park — a free, public space that hosts events year-round — the area is perfect for an afternoon stroll. Shoppers can find plenty of clothing options, as well as cooking and kitchen supplies, home decor, a pharmacy and more. Diners descend on the popular MAD Eats (try the shakes) while Emersumnice Brewery entices with its ales and woodfired pizzas. Downtown staple Giant Subs and Deli is a great place to pick up a sandwich on the go.
Beyond the Redbud District, Owasso has several shopping destinations all within a short drive. Try Smith Farm MarketPlace for your big-box and chain storefronts. Across Highway 169, pop into Surcee Gifts and Home for a wide collection of quality goods. Head to East 86th Street North for a smattering of locally owned retailers and food purveyors.
Founded in 1908, this western suburb is home to industry, growing residential communities, local retailers and an award-winning golf course.
Downtown Sand Springs is home to Triangle Park, a green space that hosts the community’s annual Herbal Affair and Festival. Nearby find local storefronts like Big Dipper Creamery, Boulder Coffee, Little Venice restaurant, Okie Spice and more.
Each year downtown Sand Springs is home to one of the longest and largest nighttime Christmas parades in the state. Mark your calendars for Dec. 1, the 40th year of the annual holiday tradition.
